Good evening. Police in Gloucestershire have carried out the | :00:10. | :00:14.
first ever arrests in the county for child trafficking. Four people were | :00:15. | :00:18.
moving young people around to be moving young people around to be | :00:19. | :00:25.
sexually exploited. The crackdown is the first major operation for a new | :00:26. | :00:27.
police unit. Our Gloucestershire reporter, Steve Knibbs, was given | :00:28. | :00:33.
exclusive access to the raids. Can you come down, please? No forced | :00:34. | :00:38.
entry needed by police this morning. This was a major step in a tnique | :00:39. | :00:41.
investigation for police in Gloucestershire as arrests were | :00:42. | :00:44.
quickly made. I'm arresting you on suspicion of child traffickhng by | :00:45. | :00:46.
arranging and facilitating the travel of a child within thd UK for | :00:47. | :00:50.
the purpose of sexual explohtation. Also arrested here, a 22`ye`r`old | :00:51. | :00:53.
man on suspicion of child trafficking, sexual or indecent | :00:54. | :00:56.
assault of a child and sexu`l grooming of a child. This operation | :00:57. | :01:03.
is being run by the police's child sexual exploitation unit. It was set | :01:04. | :01:07.
up just last September and `t that time, they'd already identified over | :01:08. | :01:10.
70 children in the county who were potentially at risk. This is their | :01:11. | :01:14.
first major case and the first time that anybody in Gloucestershire has | :01:15. | :01:17.
been arrested under child trafficking legislation. After | :01:18. | :01:23.
today's operation police and social care teams visited the nine alleged | :01:24. | :01:26.
victims in this case. They're all aged between 14 and 17 and police | :01:27. | :01:29.
believe they've been trafficked between different houses in the | :01:30. | :01:35.
city. Members of the public would tend to think that it's children | :01:36. | :01:38.
that get trafficked in and out of the country and it could be either | :01:39. | :01:42.
of those. But it could also mean people that are trafficked within | :01:43. | :01:45.
the country as well. It could be as simple as a child being movdd from | :01:46. | :01:49.
one area of Gloucester to another area of Gloucester with the purpose | :01:50. | :01:53.
of committing a sexaul act `nd that could be classed as child | :01:54. | :01:57.
trafficking. A few miles aw`y, a 19`year`old man was also arrested on | :01:58. | :02:00.
suspicion of child traffickhng and child rape as well as a wom`n in her | :02:01. | :02:04.
twenties on suspicion of chhld trafficking. All four are tonight | :02:05. | :02:08.
still in custody as part of a major crackdown on child sexual | :02:09. | :02:16.
exploitation in the county. Well, earlier I spoke with Sheila | :02:17. | :02:19.
Taylor from the charity NWG which works with children and young people | :02:20. | :02:23.
who are victims of exploitation I began by asking her how big a | :02:24. | :02:31.
problem child trafficking is. We don't really know. That's part of | :02:32. | :02:37.
the issue. We have only looked at smaller elements of it, such as | :02:38. | :02:39.
group and gang associated sdxual exploitation. How wide internal | :02:40. | :02:44.
trafficking of young people is, we have no idea. We always think of it | :02:45. | :02:50.
as being people from another country, but as we saw in Steve s | :02:51. | :02:54.
report, this is very local. Most people think people being involved | :02:55. | :02:57.
in trafficking from abroad hn the more traditional sense of the word, | :02:58. | :03:00.
but what we are seeing is movement, harbouring, receiving young people, | :03:01. | :03:03.
facilitating the movement, `nd these are all acts of trafficking, and as | :03:04. | :03:06.
we get more familiar with the legislation, we will be abld to | :03:07. | :03:10.
utilise it better, and as knowledge increases we are able to spot it | :03:11. | :03:12.
better. A teacher is facing a possible jail | :03:13. | :03:28.
sentence after she admitted four allegations of sexual offences | :03:29. | :03:30.
against a teenage schoolboy from Bristol. Kelly Burgess pleaded | :03:31. | :03:34.
guilty to charges of a breach of trust with the boy who was `ged | :03:35. | :03:39.
sixteen and seventeen at thd time. Our Home Affairs Corresponddnt, | :03:40. | :03:42.
Steve Brodie, was in court. Drama teacher 26`year`old Kdlly | :03:43. | :03:44.
Ann`Marie Burgess from Newport, arrived at court to hear thd | :03:45. | :03:47.
prosecution reveal how she had betrayed her position of trtst. | :03:48. | :03:53.
North Somerset magistrates were told how the offences came to light last | :03:54. | :03:57.
year when the teacher and the boy, who cannot be named for leg`l | :03:58. | :04:00.
reasons, went to a sexual hdalth clinic. The boy admitted having a | :04:01. | :04:05.
sexual relationship with Burgess and told the clinic nurse her n`me. But | :04:06. | :04:08.
when she was questioned, thd 26`year`old gave a false nale. When | :04:09. | :04:14.
she was first arrested by the police, the teacher denied the | :04:15. | :04:17.
offences but later when the police searched her home they discovered | :04:18. | :04:20.
text messages and she changdd her mind. When detectives seized Kelly | :04:21. | :04:24.
Burgess's mobile phone, thex found a text message from the boy. Ht said, | :04:25. | :04:28.
got the police round, don't text back. Get your story straight. | :04:29. | :04:35.
Burgess, who has since left her job, told the police she didn't think she | :04:36. | :04:38.
was doing anything illegal because as far as she was concerned, he s | :04:39. | :04:42.
reached the age of consent. This evening, North Somerset Council said | :04:43. | :04:44.
that the school takes safegtarding issues very seriously and this was | :04:45. | :04:49.
an isolated incident. The school followed the correct procedtres and | :04:50. | :04:52.
has co`operated fully with the police. Granting Burgess | :04:53. | :04:56.
unconditional bail, Chair of the magistrates, Jane Corke, told the | :04:57. | :04:59.
teacher that because the offences clearly deserve higher sentdnces | :05:00. | :05:02.
than the bench can hand out, the case would be adjourned to Bristol | :05:03. | :05:12.
Crown Court for sentence. A double`decker bus has had it's | :05:13. | :05:15.
roof completely ripped off `fter it drove under a bridge in Cheltenham. | :05:16. | :05:20.
There were no passengers on board when the crash happened just after | :05:21. | :05:23.
seven o'clock this morning, and the driver escaped uninjured. An | :05:24. | :05:28.
investigation is now underw`y. A sign that sprung up besidd the | :05:29. | :05:31.
Avon Gorge in Bristol mimicking the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles | :05:32. | :05:35.
has gone but not before unddrgoing a rewrite. The Bristoland sign, made | :05:36. | :05:39.
out of white plastic letters, appeared beside the Portway in | :05:40. | :05:43.
January. The anonymous artist said he thought it would be a cool thing | :05:44. | :05:47.
to do. Today though, someond changed the letters to read It's Bl`nd. And | :05:48. | :05:52.
by this evening the sign had been taken down altogether by thd | :05:53. | :05:57.
National Trust. The international comedy legend | :05:58. | :05:59.
Barry Humphries, has been in Bristol this evening to receive a special | :06:00. | :06:04.
award. Barry Humphries is known to millions for performing as his | :06:05. | :06:07.
alter`ego Dame Edna Everage. But he's also a renowned actor, musical | :06:08. | :06:10.
performer and artist. Tonight he's been presented with the Slapstick | :06:11. | :06:13.
Festival Comedy Legend Award, after a performance in central Brhstol. | :06:14. | :06:18.

Facebook page, and don't forget if you're a football fan, Late Kick Off | :06:23. | :06:26.
is on BBC One tonight at 11.25. Now, let's get the weather with Han. | :06:27. | :06:33.
Tomorrow, some places will see rain for the first time in many days Not | :06:34. | :06:42.
much, a sprinkling in places during the morning with some cloud. It | :06:43. | :06:45.
would be at breezy and placds and quite windy. Five to seven Celsius. | :06:46. | :06:56.
A lot of cloud. In the mornhng, a weak cold front which will hntroduce | :06:57. | :07:01.
some light showers drifting to the east. In the afternoon, thex move | :07:02. | :07:07.
away and things will brightdn up. It would be a pretty breezy affair | :07:08. | :07:12.
Particularly on coastal fringes 35 mph. That will take the edgd of the | :07:13. | :07:20.
temperatures. In some places, 1 or 12 degrees. A mild story through mid | :07:21. | :07:27.
week, some rain on the way by Thursday and it will turn mtch | :07:28. | :07:28.
Thursday and it will turn much cooler. We now have the | :07:29. | :07:31.
going to be Wednesday. Unsettled from there on in. More on that now | :07:32. | :07:34.
with the UK forecast. A frost free night across the whole | :07:35. | :07:43.
of the UK across the whole of the UK. | :07:44. | :07:44. |
