Good evening. Young farmers from significant -- end of the season. | :00:13. | :00:15.
Good evening. Young farmers from across the country have been in | :00:16. | :00:18.
Somerset helping to rebuild farms and recover farmland devast`ted by | :00:19. | :00:24.
the floods. One couple, who've been farming in Moorland for 40 xears, | :00:25. | :00:27.
say they would have struggldd to recover without the support of the | :00:28. | :00:31.
local farming community. Here's Jules Hyam. | :00:32. | :00:35.
The floods have certainly ldft their mark here at Batten Farm. The water | :00:36. | :00:39.
level at its highest was around three and a half feet but jtst | :00:40. | :00:42.
because the water's now gond doesn't mean that everything is suddenly | :00:43. | :00:46.
back to normal. Instead of dnjoying their farmstead home, the Hhtchings | :00:47. | :00:51.
are living in a caravan. Thd view out across their farm is not what it | :00:52. | :00:55.
once was. All this has to bd cleared, all of the barn buhldings | :00:56. | :01:04.
pulled down. It has really been awful, worse than | :01:05. | :01:13.
awful. It took us a fortnight to realise the situation. It w`s such a | :01:14. | :01:20.
shock. Everything went. To see it coming up and you got no control, | :01:21. | :01:25.
you just can't describe it. It will take months for Batten Farm | :01:26. | :01:29.
to recover, weeks just to clear the land, but the Hutchings are getting | :01:30. | :01:35.
some help from younger farmdrs. They are just really struggling As | :01:36. | :01:42.
you can see, it is just uttdr devastation. So we want to do our | :01:43. | :01:49.
bed to help the community. And that's meant lifting, c`rrying | :01:50. | :01:52.
and clearing this farm and several others like it. | :01:53. | :01:57.
We came back here and wondered how on earth do we get started? This is | :01:58. | :02:05.
the third week and the helpdrs have been brilliant. | :02:06. | :02:10.
Weston`super`Mare's been told to clean up its sea water or rhsk | :02:11. | :02:13.
having its beaches closed to bathers. The Environment Agdncy says | :02:14. | :02:18.
it doesn't meet new European standards of cleanliness ovdr sewage | :02:19. | :02:26.
levels in the water. The resort town has until next year to meet the new | :02:27. | :02:30.
regulations. The National Museum of the Royal | :02:31. | :02:34.
Navy has paid ?5,000 to buy a bell that spent 70 years as a garden | :02:35. | :02:38.
ornament in Bristol. The First World War ship's bell originally belonged | :02:39. | :02:41.
to the German vessel SMS Grosser Kurfurs, which took part in the | :02:42. | :02:45.
bombardment of the east coast in 1914. It was sunk after the war but | :02:46. | :02:53.
raised for scrap in 1938. The rare bell is now heading to the luseum at | :02:54. | :03:00.
Portsmouth historic dockyard. Army veterans led the annual Back | :03:01. | :03:03.
Badge march through Gloucester this afternoon. The event saw thd reunion | :03:04. | :03:07.
of the former Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Reghment. | :03:08. | :03:11.
The regiment was awarded thd Back Badge in 1801 when it held off | :03:12. | :03:14.
repeated attacks by Napoleon's troops. | :03:15. | :03:19.
In football, it's been an afternoon of what might have been for our | :03:20. | :03:23.
teams. Yeovil and Bristol Chty both threw away two goal leads bdfore | :03:24. | :03:26.
being held to draws in their respective games against Bolton and | :03:27. | :03:31.
Colchester. Cheltenham also had a two goal lead at Wimbledon before | :03:32. | :03:34.
conceding three goals but fhghting back to secure a draw. Swindon won | :03:35. | :03:41.
at home, thanks to a second half penalty. | :03:42. | :03:44.
Well, it's back to league action for our rugby sides this weekend. In the | :03:45. | :03:47.
Premiership, Gloucester staxed in control to beat Newcastle bx 40`31. | :03:48. | :03:51.
Bath are on the road later, looking to keep hold of third place away at | :03:52. | :03:59.
London Irish. Kick off at 5:30pm. It's a sunny start for many of us. | :04:00. | :04:03.
Let's get the weather now whth Elizabeth Rizzini. | :04:04. | :04:06.
The showers are likely to rtmble on for a time for many areas this | :04:07. | :04:12.
evening. You will want to w`tch out for a few icy stretches into | :04:13. | :04:15.
tomorrow morning and perhaps just a touch of rural frost, particularly | :04:16. | :04:19.
in sheltered spots. A rather chilly night to come. By the time we get | :04:20. | :04:23.
into tomorrow morning, it is a much drier picture and there will be some | :04:24. | :04:26.
lovely spells of sunshine. Still some showers but mostly confined to | :04:27. | :04:29.
northern areas of Gloucestershire, down to parts of Wiltshire. Top | :04:30. | :04:36.
temperatures tomorrow just scraping into double figures. Still ` fairly | :04:37. | :04:43.
brisk north`westerly wind. There will be quite a sharp frost on | :04:44. | :04:47.
Sunday night into Monday underneath largely clear skies. Clouding over | :04:48. | :04:50.
on Monday morning and we will start to see some wet weather frol the | :04:51. | :04:54.
West. That's all from the Points West team | :04:55. | :04:58.
for tonight. We're back with bulletins tomorrow. Your BBC local | :04:59. | :05:01.
radio station and online can keep you up to date in the meanthme. For | :05:02. | :05:04.
now, from me, have a lovely evening. The Wind a lot showers around at the | :05:05. | :05:28.
moment, still hale and thunder too. As we turn the wind north-westerly, | :05:29. | :05:35.
these areas will bear the brunt of the showers overnight. A chilly | :05:36. | :05:40.
night, a touch of frost in rural areas. A few showers first thing. | :05:41. | :05:47.
Sunshine too. Cloud will bubble up and showers will develop in England | :05:48. | :05:52.
and Wales. The main focus in the afternoon is an eastern areas. | :05:53. | :05:56.
Across Wales and the south-west very few showers all day. The | :05:57. | :06:00.
north-westerly wind lines the showers up in the afternoon. East | :06:01. | :06:05.
Anglia and parts of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire could see quite a few | :06:06. | :06:08.
showers. Hit or miss. All or nothing. Showers easing down in the | :06:09. | :06:13.
afternoon for Northern Ireland. The south-west of Scotland should be | :06:14. | :06:16.
largely drive. More showers | :06:17. | :06:17. |
