full coverage on BBC One of the European election results after the | :00:00. | 3:59:59
Good evening from Points West. The news where | :00:00. | :00:12.
Good evening from Points West. The votes have been counted in the south | :00:13. | :00:17.
west European elections. A result is expected soon at the region`l count | :00:18. | :00:21.
in Poole. The south west is electing six members of the European | :00:22. | :00:29.
Parliament. Let's join our Political Editor who's there. What's the | :00:30. | :00:36.
latest? We do not have a result I will give you a prediction hn | :00:37. | :00:41.
minutes, but it is looking puiet. Those are a lecture in officials who | :00:42. | :00:46.
have been getting the results `` election officials. They have adding | :00:47. | :00:51.
them up and falling through the figures. Everyone is waiting | :00:52. | :00:59.
downstairs. Candidates and party members who have come along to | :01:00. | :01:03.
witness this important moment. No one knows exactly what it is going | :01:04. | :01:07.
to be. The Conservatives had three members, UKIP won two last time and | :01:08. | :01:18.
the Liberal Democrats had one. We can make a prediction. We think UKIP | :01:19. | :01:24.
are going to come out on top. Two MEPs for them. We think the | :01:25. | :01:28.
Conservatives will have to lark in the new European Parliament. It | :01:29. | :01:32.
looks as if Labour have picked up the seat they wanted to get back, | :01:33. | :01:35.
having lost their seat in the south`west last time. The fhnal | :01:36. | :01:41.
seat, very close and indeed between the Greens and the Liberal | :01:42. | :01:44.
Democrats. If the Greens take it that would mean the end of the | :01:45. | :01:48.
career for Sir Graham Watson, the MEP for the south`west for 20 years. | :01:49. | :01:53.
And coverage of the European election results continues now on | :01:54. | :01:56.
your local radio station and on BBC One after this bulletin. | :01:57. | :01:59.
A 33`year`old man has died `fter a crash on one of Swindon's btsiest | :02:00. | :02:03.
roads. Another man, believed to be his father, is in hospital with | :02:04. | :02:09.
serious injuries. 6:30am this morning, at a thme when | :02:10. | :02:12.
the road would have been quhet, tragedy struck at the entrance to | :02:13. | :02:16.
the Orbital Retail Park. It's thought both cars were travdlling in | :02:17. | :02:19.
opposite directions along Thamesdown Drive when the collision happened. | :02:20. | :02:23.
The cars ended up 100 yards away from each other after they hit. The | :02:24. | :02:27.
passenger of the Nissan was Paul Winters from Swindon. He sadly died | :02:28. | :02:32.
in hospital. His father, who was driving, was seriously injured and | :02:33. | :02:35.
is currently in a stable condition in Southmead Hospital in Brhstol. | :02:36. | :02:40.
Two men, also from Swindon, who were both in the blue Astra, havd been | :02:41. | :02:43.
arrested on suspicion of catsing death by dangerous driving. The | :02:44. | :02:48.
accident has affected access to the shopping centre here but police say | :02:49. | :02:51.
that's unavoidable due to the loss of life and need to carry ott a full | :02:52. | :02:55.
criminal investigation. While it is reasonably busy here during the day, | :02:56. | :02:58.
this morning when the acciddnt happened there was hardly anybody | :02:59. | :03:01.
about and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. The roads | :03:02. | :03:05.
are quite quiet at that timd of day, but there were people here. When the | :03:06. | :03:10.
first police officers arrivdd, there were members of the public helping | :03:11. | :03:14.
those at the scene and we would like to appeal for witnesses. Thdy can | :03:15. | :03:17.
contact myself at police headquarters Devizes on the 101 | :03:18. | :03:22.
number. Of the two men arrested one has now been bailed and the other | :03:23. | :03:25.
released without charge. Me`nwhile, police family liaison officdrs have | :03:26. | :03:28.
been appointed to work with Paul Winters' relatives. | :03:29. | :03:37.
The family of West Country sailor Paul Goslin have paid tribute to him | :03:38. | :03:41.
as a wonderful family man, who will be missed by everyone that knew | :03:42. | :03:45.
him". Mr Goslin and Steve W`rren, who were both from Somerset, are | :03:46. | :03:48.
among four sailors missing `fter their yacht capsized in the | :03:49. | :03:52.
Atlantic. In a statement his family say they're "struggling to come to | :03:53. | :03:56.
terms with the fact Paul won't be found alive". Prayers have been said | :03:57. | :04:00.
for the men in churches in the west today. | :04:01. | :04:07.
We have seen some showers through today but tonight is often going to | :04:08. | :04:12.
be a dry picture with some clear spells out there. We could see a | :04:13. | :04:16.
little bit of mist and fog forming. Lows in towns and cities down to | :04:17. | :04:20.
seven or nine degrees but it will be chilly in the countryside. Tomorrow | :04:21. | :04:24.
starts for most of us on a bright note with a few sunny spells but we | :04:25. | :04:28.
are likely to see some showdrs developing. These could be heavy and | :04:29. | :04:31.
thundery perhaps but highs getting up to 16, 17, 18 degrees. Thereafter | :04:32. | :04:39.
we are looking at quite an tnsettled picture through the working week. | :04:40. | :04:43.
Some bright spells around btt also showers and more persistent spells | :04:44. | :04:49.
of rain. Enjoy the rest of xour bank holiday. | :04:50. | :04:53.
Points West is back with Brdakfast bulletins at 6:25am tomorrow. From | :04:54. | :04:57.
all of us here, goodnight. Good evening to you. Tomorrow the | :04:58. | :05:13.
weather will be a little like a box of chocolate, you don't know what | :05:14. | :05:17.
you are going to get until you head out. The weather was clear cut | :05:18. | :05:23.
today, sunshine in the Midlands and the north. | :05:24. | :05:28.
Tomorrow, there's going to be a mix of everything across the country and | :05:29. | :05:31.
it will be changing a lot from morning into the afternoon and into | :05:32. | :05:35.
the evening. This is what the weather is going to look like in the | :05:36. | :05:39.
early hours, rain in the south-east, showers dotted around across western | :05:40. | :05:44.
areas, and as far as the headline goes for Bank Holiday Monday, we'll | :05:45. | :05:49.
call it sunshine and thundery showers, because they'll be hefty | :05:50. | :05:53.
later on in the afternoon on Monday. This is what it starts like in the | :05:54. | :05:57.
course of the morning. Note it is splodges of blue indicating the | :05:58. | :06:00.
rainfall. They keep changing and moving into different places, there | :06:01. | :06:04.
is a lot of sunshine coming through. In terms of the thundery downpours, | :06:05. | :06:10.
we think the worst will be through this portion here whereas across | :06:11. | :06:12. |
