A water main has burst at Khngswood near Bristol tonight flooding

a dozen homes and causing widespread disruption to thd supply

Seventeen adults and two children had to be rescued

from their homes and some wdre taken to dry land on a raft.

Tonight water tankers are being sent to the area to

Bubbling up beneath the road and flooding the houses either side

Firefighters used dinghies to help residents to safety.

These children, not expecting a teatime evacuation from

their houses, taken by surprise by a burst water main which colpletely

I just looked out the window and couldn't believe my eyes.

The whole road erupted and ` flood of water just came down the road.

It was above my knees, say, two or three feet deep.

A dozen or so homes were ev`cuated and with no clear timeframe

for how long it might take, some decided it could be a long wait

There is a gas main that runs very close to the water main so we're

just preparing the site, making sure everything's safe, pulling dverybody

back and then we can close down the main and we've got the gas board

there to make sure there is no gas flow. It's more than three hours now

since the water main at the end of the road burst.

They're not being allowed whthin about 100 yards of the water

They have opened a church h`ll around the corner so people can

go and get a cup of tea, but what they really want to know is when

Hundreds more could be without water for some time.

Bristol Water say they're currently working on the problem.

People are saying the water is cloudy and they are being advised to

run the tap until the water is clear.
