A unique event has taken pl`ce in Bristol today designed to help

:00:00.:00:22.

Surgeons and staff from the city's Children's Hospital

:00:23.:00:25.

have been encouraging youngsters with pacemakers to take mord

:00:26.:00:27.

exercise because the benefits could be considerable.

:00:28.:00:29.

She has had heart problems since she was born,

:00:30.:00:47.

but having a pacemaker doesn't stop her living an active life.

:00:48.:00:49.

I like doing PE, I like lots of sports.

:00:50.:00:51.

Trying to keep Ella calm and steady is hard work.

:00:52.:00:55.

She seems and appears much lore active than all of her friends.

:00:56.:00:58.

That's what I love about her, she has a fight for life, she is never

:00:59.:01:01.

At Bristol's M Shed today, an event called Up The Pace,

:01:02.:01:15.

where cardiac surgeons and physiologists encourage youngsters

:01:16.:01:17.

With a pacemaker there is a lot of things you can do,

:01:18.:01:24.

and there are some things you are better off not doing.

:01:25.:01:26.

The aim is to try to encour`ge them to do the things they can do

:01:27.:01:30.

And Clare Elsley is living proof that it works.

:01:31.:01:33.

Fitted with a pacemaker five years ago, she s

:01:34.:01:35.

since led England's indoor netball team to a World Cup silver ledal.

:01:36.:01:38.

Being diagnosed with a heart condition is the end

:01:39.:01:40.

of the world is irrelevant, that's not how it has to be.

:01:41.:01:43.

I'm not saying it's going to be easy, for every step forward,

:01:44.:01:46.

you take 10 backwards, but there is hope, there is light and I think you

:01:47.:01:50.

just have to cling onto that, that actually there is a future

:01:51.:01:53.

It's an inspiration to the likes of young Ella and the results produced

:01:54.:01:57.

here could see other cardiac units across the country following suit.

:01:58.:02:00.

A woman has died after a crash early yesterday morning

:02:05.:02:07.

The 32`year`old from Trowbrhdge ` who was walking with her partner `

:02:08.:02:12.

was struck by a grey Audi on the A361.

:02:13.:02:14.

She was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, but died last nhght

:02:15.:02:17.

A 22`year`old man from Melksham was arrested

:02:18.:02:19.

A promising young ballet dancer from Bath, who was attacked

:02:20.:02:32.

and left for dead three years ago, has been performing at London's

:02:33.:02:35.

Jack Widdowson was 19 when he was mugged ` his neck was broken.

:02:36.:02:39.

After intensive treatment, he's now realising

:02:40.:02:40.

Tonight's gala raised money for a charity set up by his parents

:02:41.:02:44.

` supporting other dancers who need specialist treatment.

:02:45.:02:56.

I danced here once actually before with the National Youth Ballet `

:02:57.:02:59.

this was before the accident ` and, yeah, to be back here, it's amazing,

:03:00.:03:02.

kind of after the injury and to be back performing on the stagd with

:03:03.:03:06.

all these amazing companies, it's really inspiring.

:03:07.:03:18.

Henry Winkler hung up his leather jacket long ago and is

:03:19.:03:22.

Today he was at the Bath Chhldren's Literature Festival and tomorrow

:03:23.:03:26.

he's teaming up with the Re`dWell charity to tell stories to patients

:03:27.:03:29.

He's always been keen to sh`re his own experiences with dyslexia.

:03:30.:03:33.

I didn't read until I was 30 and I missed out on so much

:03:34.:03:36.

I thought, "I can't read all those words in between those covers," and

:03:37.:03:43.

It is an enormous adventure and to meet these children today is

:03:44.:03:48.

Well, the weather was a nice gift for us today!

:03:49.:04:03.

Here's the forecast with Holly Green.

:04:04.:04:04.

Today brought sunshine, tonight brings mist and fog.

:04:05.:04:10.

So underneath those clear spells and light winds our air is going

:04:11.:04:13.

to stagnate which will cause the mist and fog to form.

:04:14.:04:19.

Mostly dry through tonight, possibly the odd isolated shower and

:04:20.:04:26.

We will see greater visibilhty for the beginning of tomorrow,

:04:27.:04:32.

As the day wears on, things should improve.

:04:33.:04:36.

Some sunny spells coming through, but also the risk of a few showers.

:04:37.:04:39.

They should be isolated, pretty hit and miss, but if you

:04:40.:04:41.

Still decent temperatures where we do get get some sunshine.

:04:42.:04:46.

Into the working week, available cloud, some bright spells btt also

:04:47.:04:49.

The M5 northbound is closed overnight between Junctions 11A

:04:50.:04:54.

It'll reopen tomorrow morning at six.

:04:55.:04:57.

Join us again tomorrow from 6:2 am. Good night.

:04:58.:05:03.

night. -- that is it from the BBC London weekend team, have a very

:05:04.:05:06.

good night. This weekend was one to remember not

:05:07.:05:14.

just because of the Ryder Cup but because of the weather, temperatures

:05:15.:05:18.

more akin to the middle of summer, hardly a cloud in the sky across

:05:19.:05:21.

England and Wales, temperatures peaked in the south-east at 25

:05:22.:05:25.

degrees. Way above the average for the time of year. Clout to the north

:05:26.:05:30.

and still a decaying weather front, producing a few bits and pieces of

:05:31.:05:33.

rain through the night, some cloud around. Where we get breaks, we

:05:34.:05:38.

could see further spells of mist and fog and the potential for a few

:05:39.:05:42.

sharp showers to develop moving up through the Channel coast. There is

:05:43.:05:45.

a level of uncertainty about family money showers we are likely to see

:05:46.:05:49.

and where they will crop up. I suspect that by the middle of the

:05:50.:05:53.

afternoon, some places will escape them and stay dry. Not as warm as

:05:54.:05:59.

today. If you catch a shower, particularly across north-west Wales

:06:00.:06:02.

and England, it could be heavy and possibly thundery. Northern England,

:06:03.:06:07.

Northern Ireland and Scotland, you do full day in prospect, quite

:06:08.:06:11.

quiet, largely dry with sunny spells coming through. Temperatures

:06:12.:06:14.

responding, 15 to 18 degrees.

:06:15.:06:17.
