Welcome to Wales Today. Tonight's headlines: Elinor Hughes has waited | :00:04. | :00:06.
over nine months for a knee operation. | :00:06. | :00:09.
Why doesn't the Welsh Government want the private sector to help | :00:09. | :00:19.
:00:19. | :00:21. | ||
A furious reaction as a driver is given community service for a car | :00:21. | :00:28.
crash which killed two teenagers. Who really killed this | :00:28. | :00:32.
Pembrokeshire couple? Tonight, a call to reopen the case. | :00:32. | :00:36.
Queen of the British passenger fleet. Tonight, new footage of a | :00:36. | :00:42.
landmark shipwreck off Anglesey. Day Good evening. In tonight's | :00:42. | :00:46.
sport: The oh-so-nearly story once again. We'll have the latest from | :00:46. | :00:50.
New Zealand. Gethin Jenkins and Stephen Jones should be fit to face | :00:50. | :01:00.
:01:00. | :01:09. | ||
Good evening. The Health Minister has hit back at | :01:09. | :01:12.
claims the Welsh Government is allowing more and more use of | :01:12. | :01:15.
private treatment within the NHS. Lesley Griffiths told BBC Wales she | :01:15. | :01:18.
didn't want to see private companies making money out of the | :01:18. | :01:22.
Health Service. Last year, more than 1,000 NHS patients in Wales | :01:22. | :01:26.
were seen at a private hospital. That's less than 1% of all | :01:26. | :01:29.
operations carried out. But, with some waiting list targets being | :01:29. | :01:32.
missed, opposition parties are backing the use of private | :01:32. | :01:42.
:01:42. | :01:45. | ||
healthcare. Like thousands of others in Wales, | :01:45. | :01:48.
Elinor Hughes from Anglesey has been waiting for any operation for | :01:48. | :01:51.
over nine months. She says she is in fairly constant | :01:51. | :01:54.
pain, but is still on the waiting list. The specialist told me that | :01:54. | :01:58.
if I went privately and paid 10,000, I could get it done quite | :01:58. | :02:03.
quickly. But I don't know, it's not very fair. Because of waiting times | :02:03. | :02:05.
getting longer, some health boards themselves have been considering | :02:05. | :02:10.
turning to the private sector. The Welsh Government has earmarked 65 | :02:10. | :02:14.
million to get to grips with waiting lists. But says spending it | :02:14. | :02:19.
on private care is not the answer. We absolutely reject privatisation | :02:19. | :02:22.
of NHS services. I don't want to see private companies making money | :02:22. | :02:26.
from the NHS. We have reduced exceptionally well the number of | :02:26. | :02:36.
private operations carried out. use of private hospitals like this | :02:36. | :02:39.
one for NHS operations has pretty much been ruled out by the Welsh | :02:39. | :02:49.
:02:49. | :02:49. | ||
Government, as it has for the last four years. They say many earmarked | :02:50. | :02:55.
for the NHS should stay inside the NHS. But now, some people say it | :02:55. | :02:59.
might be time to change tack. If there isn't any room on NHS wards, | :02:59. | :03:09.
:03:09. | :03:09. | ||
private hospitals say they could pick up the slack. Let's make it | :03:09. | :03:13.
transparent, as they have done in England for a number of years, | :03:13. | :03:16.
where there is a tariff for each procedure. Everybody knows where | :03:16. | :03:20.
they stand. As we have seen, the government isn't so keen on that | :03:20. | :03:23.
idea. So, if they don't want to use the private sector, there might be | :03:24. | :03:29.
another possible answer. The big question is, will we start to relax | :03:29. | :03:33.
a bit on these waiting times targets in order to allow the | :03:33. | :03:36.
health service a little bit more elbow room? Everyone within the | :03:36. | :03:41.
health service wants to treat patients as quickly as possible. | :03:41. | :03:44.
But how they do that with less money will come under increasing | :03:44. | :03:49.
scrutiny over the next few years. Let's talk to our political editor | :03:49. | :03:55.
Betsan Powys. Let's be clear. Has the minister given a definite no to | :03:55. | :04:02.
using the private sector in the NHS? | :04:02. | :04:08.
Yes, she has clearly rejected the privatisation of NHS services, but | :04:08. | :04:12.
that is the Minister denying something she hasn't been accused | :04:12. | :04:22.
:04:22. | :04:22. | ||
of. But, she has also said, our government has given targets, | :04:22. | :04:28.
waiting-list targets, to the health service and those must be wet -- | :04:28. | :04:37.
must be met. And it may mean they need to turn to the private sector, | :04:37. | :04:41.
as a short-term last resort. That is moving away from Labour's | :04:41. | :04:46.
manifesto pledge would be taught about a limited use of private | :04:46. | :04:53.
hospitals in the NHS in Wales. Does this tally? No, they don't, says | :04:53. | :05:02.
the Conservatives. Which parts of the NHS have said | :05:02. | :05:12.
:05:12. | :05:12. | ||
they would use private? Cardiff, and others, have said they | :05:12. | :05:15.
need to deal with wedding lists which may mean we use private | :05:15. | :05:22.
services. In the short term, they say they are of the same view as | :05:22. | :05:27.
the Health Minister. There's been a furious reaction to the sentencing | :05:27. | :05:30.
of a driver who caused the deaths of two teenagers last year. Ashley | :05:30. | :05:33.
Williams has been given community service. He'd pleaded guilty to | :05:33. | :05:37.
causing the deaths of a 16 and 18 year old in a crash near | :05:37. | :05:40.
Aberystwyth. The judge said he knew some people might consider the | :05:40. | :05:50.
:05:50. | :05:57. | ||
Anger spilling on to the steps of Swansea Crown Court. Some family | :05:57. | :06:00.
members couldn't contain their fury that the driver was given 250 hours | :06:00. | :06:06.
of community service. There were similar scenes inside court. One | :06:06. | :06:12.
relative shouted: "He got away with it." Another had to be dragged out. | :06:12. | :06:17.
Ashley Williams, 22, left court, visibly shaken. He had been driving | :06:17. | :06:20.
between Aberystwyth and Ponterwid in August last year. The court | :06:20. | :06:23.
heard he wasn't speeding, but his lack of experience behind the wheel | :06:23. | :06:28.
meant when he lost control of his car. He didn't know what to do. The | :06:28. | :06:32.
Ford Focus he'd bought only two weeks earlier plunged 20 foot into | :06:32. | :06:38.
a lake. He managed to free himself, but couldn't pull his friends out | :06:38. | :06:42.
of the car, and had to run to get help. Two 16-year-old girls were | :06:42. | :06:46.
rescued an hour later by the Fire Service. But Jai Burkes, 18, a | :06:46. | :06:50.
childhood friend of Ashley Williams and Anwen Busby who was 16, both | :06:50. | :06:57.
drowned. Judge Christopher Vosper said: "Nothing he could do today, | :06:57. | :07:01.
would assist the families of Jai Burkes and Anwen Busby." He added | :07:01. | :07:04.
he was hesitant, and that some would believe this sentence "too | :07:04. | :07:08.
lenient". But a community order was looking towards Ashley Williams' | :07:08. | :07:14.
future, and not his past. He was banned from driving for three years. | :07:14. | :07:18.
As his father left court, he said his son had been through "a | :07:18. | :07:22.
personal hell in the past year", and "the crash had been, and always | :07:22. | :07:27.
will be a tragic accident". Let's talk to the barrister Andrew | :07:27. | :07:30.
Taylor. Two people die, and the driver gets community service. What | :07:30. | :07:38.
factors would the judge take into account in a case like this? | :07:38. | :07:43.
It was plainly a very tragic plays and the often up will be felt many | :07:43. | :07:47.
years to come. There will be a variety of things, the first thing, | :07:47. | :07:53.
this was careless, not dangerous driving. It was careless driving, | :07:53. | :07:58.
not even at the highest degree, according to the remarks made. | :07:58. | :08:04.
There was no evidence of excessive speed, drugs or drink involved. The | :08:04. | :08:10.
car was lawfully on the road. It was a momentary loss of control. | :08:10. | :08:15.
These two young people tragically died. A difficult sentencing | :08:15. | :08:19.
exercise for the judge. He has to reflect the fact two people lost | :08:19. | :08:25.
their lives. He had to look at the culpability of the defendant, how | :08:25. | :08:31.
dangerous the driving was? It was careless driving. And, how | :08:31. | :08:34.
foreseeable the accident was. dead girls' relatives were very | :08:35. | :08:37.
unhappy at the sentence. How difficult are decisions like these | :08:37. | :08:46.
for the judge? Very difficult indeed. On one hand, | :08:46. | :08:50.
two families plainly distraught. He needs to look at the sentencing | :08:50. | :08:56.
guidelines. There are considered guidelines. The sentence imposed | :08:56. | :09:01.
was well within the sentencing guidelines. It was not out of | :09:01. | :09:05.
kilter with the government's recommendations. Therefore, I do | :09:05. | :09:09.
not think there was anything wrong in principle. The judge said he had | :09:09. | :09:14.
considered the Cons -- considered the sentence long and hard. | :09:14. | :09:17.
Storm force winds have caused damage in many parts of Wales. In | :09:17. | :09:21.
Merthyr Vale near Merthyr Tydfil, the wind blew the roof off this | :09:21. | :09:24.
house and landed on a passing police car. No one was injured. | :09:24. | :09:28.
Trearddur Bay on Anglesey saw very high waves, and there were gusts as | :09:28. | :09:35.
strong as 81mph at Capel Curig. A man has appeared before | :09:35. | :09:37.
magistrates in Worcestershire, charged with the manslaughter of | :09:37. | :09:40.
Wales fan Mike Dye who suffered head injuries before last week's | :09:40. | :09:45.
game against England at Wembley. Ian Mytton was remanded in custody | :09:45. | :09:48.
partly for his own safety, after the court heard there were postings | :09:48. | :09:55.
on a website, threatening revenge or retaliation. | :09:55. | :09:58.
A leading forensic psychologist says a new investigation should be | :09:58. | :10:01.
held into the deaths of an elderly brother and sister from | :10:01. | :10:04.
Pembrokeshire in 1976. At the time, police claimed Griff Thomas had | :10:04. | :10:08.
killed his sister during a row, before setting himself on fire. A | :10:08. | :10:11.
possible link has been suggested to John Cooper, the man convicted of | :10:11. | :10:14.
two double murders in the area. Aled Scourfield has been | :10:14. | :10:24.
:10:24. | :10:27. | ||
investigating for tonight's Taro Naw programme. | :10:27. | :10:30.
Griff and Patti Thomas had lived together at their farmhouse for 70 | :10:30. | :10:33.
years. Their bodies were found in December 1976. Their deaths stunned | :10:33. | :10:38.
this community in North Pembrokeshire. At the time, police | :10:38. | :10:43.
launched a murder investigation. Patti Thomas had suffered severe | :10:43. | :10:47.
head injuries. It is believed a weapon was used in the attack, but | :10:47. | :10:50.
no murder weapon has been found. Griff Thomas had suffered severe | :10:50. | :10:55.
burns, and also head injuries. Eventually, the police decided that | :10:55. | :10:59.
Griff Thomas had attacked his sister during a row at the property, | :10:59. | :11:02.
before setting himself on fire. However, one of their relatives has | :11:02. | :11:10.
never believed the official explanation. | :11:10. | :11:20.
:11:20. | :11:22. | ||
The there is no way he could have done it. We have spoken to a | :11:22. | :11:29.
consultant forensic * -- cyclist who says there are sufficient | :11:29. | :11:32.
grounds to do out the official explanation and he says a court | :11:32. | :11:37.
case review should be held into the deaths. He believes they died | :11:37. | :11:43.
during a botched robbery. I feel there would be a substantial case | :11:43. | :11:48.
for looking at this particular crime again as a cold case. In May | :11:49. | :11:58.
:11:59. | :12:03. | ||
this year, John Cooper was sentenced to four life sentences. | :12:03. | :12:09.
One policeman believes there are parallels between those deaths, but | :12:09. | :12:14.
also important differences. There are links because there was a fire, | :12:14. | :12:21.
it was a man and a woman. But again, there wasn't a deft, a gun was not | :12:21. | :12:27.
used, no evidence. The question is whether it is time to reopen the | :12:27. | :12:32.
inquiry. Was an innocent man wrongly blamed for the death of his | :12:32. | :12:42.
:12:42. | :12:46. | ||
It was an early start for most of us with Breakfast clubs springing | :12:46. | :12:51.
up to watch the World Cup. How did fans deal with the highs and lows | :12:51. | :12:59.
of watching Wales? A fence put up on the Brecon | :12:59. | :13:03.
Beacons during the foot-and-mouth outbreak must be pulled down after | :13:03. | :13:05.
the Welsh Government refused it planning permission. Campaigners | :13:05. | :13:09.
have welcomed the decision saying it was an eyesore. Graziers say it | :13:09. | :13:13.
is important if they are to manage the land effectively. Caroline | :13:13. | :13:22.
Evans won to take a look. It stretches for 4 1/2 miles to | :13:22. | :13:26.
some of the most remote parts of the mountains. In this unforgiving | :13:26. | :13:31.
landscape, it is difficult for our cameras to seek from the past. Here, | :13:31. | :13:35.
it follows the line of the stream. To some it is an eyesore and there | :13:36. | :13:39.
are pleased with the decision by the Welsh Government to refuse it | :13:39. | :13:44.
per minute planning permission. is an enormous intrusion into the | :13:44. | :13:49.
scene, the rural scene, across these wide-open spaces, and it is | :13:49. | :13:54.
also a barrier to physical progress. The public has the right to roam | :13:54. | :13:58.
over these hills. When Foot and Mouth arrived in Wales every flock | :13:58. | :14:02.
on the Beacons was cold, with even healthy animals slaughtered to try | :14:02. | :14:08.
to stop the spread of the disease. Edwin Harris lost around 1000 sheep. | :14:08. | :14:12.
Since foot-and-mouth, he told me, everything up here has changed and | :14:12. | :14:21.
not for the better. I will show you, we have grass coming like this when | :14:21. | :14:26.
know she'd will eat its, Cowes 20 Tidd, horses won't eat it. -- she | :14:26. | :14:31.
pointed tips. He told me how farmers managed the grazing here | :14:31. | :14:34.
and without it diseases like foot and mouth would easily spread once | :14:34. | :14:41.
more. It is important for disease Control. That is one strong reason | :14:41. | :14:45.
why it should stay. Without permanent planning permission, the | :14:45. | :14:49.
fence is illegal, but this is not the end of the matter. While the | :14:49. | :14:54.
decision has been made that the fence cannot stay, who will enforce | :14:55. | :14:59.
its removal has yet to be agreed, and that debate could end up in the | :14:59. | :15:07.
courts. The new chair of Plaid Cymru, Helen | :15:07. | :15:10.
Mary Jones, has denied allegations for -- by her sister that she | :15:11. | :15:15.
claimed benefit while owning three homes. Never a Alexander says it is | :15:15. | :15:20.
a disgrace that the former assembly member signed on after losing her | :15:20. | :15:25.
seat. -- Myfanwy Alexander. Ms Jones said she registered for | :15:25. | :15:28.
jobseeker's allowance but was not eligible for benefit and did not | :15:28. | :15:33.
expect to receive any. She also denied owning three homes. | :15:33. | :15:37.
Gutted: The words of Wales''s captain after losing to South | :15:37. | :15:42.
Africa after -- by just a point in their opening world cup match. The | :15:42. | :15:45.
squad say it is time to move on and they are not dwelling on what might | :15:45. | :15:49.
have been, even though they have to win their remaining pool games to | :15:49. | :15:53.
make the quarter-finals. Arriving back to the hotel after | :15:53. | :15:58.
the game, Wales understandably jaded. Fans in reception showed | :15:58. | :16:01.
their appreciation but for the players it was time to reflect on a | :16:01. | :16:06.
game they know they should have won. No one can question Wales's | :16:06. | :16:10.
commitment and a huge physical effort to have the world champions | :16:10. | :16:15.
on the ropes. For all the ingredients were there but Wales | :16:15. | :16:21.
could only look at themselves for not seeing out the victory. This | :16:21. | :16:25.
drop goal and penalty both had chances to seal it. You can think, | :16:25. | :16:30.
we have got this one, we definitely have it, and I was gutted at the | :16:30. | :16:36.
end. There was no point dwelling on its, and there was no other option | :16:37. | :16:46.
:16:47. | :16:48. | ||
but to take it on the chin up. drop goal late run changed things, | :16:48. | :16:52.
but little moments in the game cost us. The game suddenly -- certainly | :16:52. | :16:56.
had its talking points. James Hook was convinced his first-half | :16:56. | :17:02.
penalty went over but despite his organisers have since backed the | :17:02. | :17:06.
official who disallowed the penalty to be checked by the referee. Wales | :17:06. | :17:10.
must now move on and must beat Samoa on Sunday to keep their hopes | :17:10. | :17:14.
alive. Stephen Jones and Gethin Jenkins are expected to return to | :17:14. | :17:19.
full training this week, making them both available for selection. | :17:20. | :17:24.
Wales nearly won the most important game in their history. They could | :17:24. | :17:28.
go through to the quarters, that is the target. The objective is to get | :17:28. | :17:32.
through to the quarters and forget South Africa. With the Rugby taking | :17:32. | :17:36.
place thousands of miles away, Breakfast clubs here in Wales are | :17:36. | :17:41.
springing up. Hundreds gathered in Cowbridge for breakfast in aid of a | :17:41. | :17:46.
local charity, and as croissant cent jump were served, frustration | :17:46. | :17:52.
dominated discussion. -- croissants and jam. We could have won that | :17:52. | :18:01.
game. We should have beaten South Africa by a two points. We are | :18:01. | :18:05.
looking good going forward. A lot of plus points but ultimately | :18:05. | :18:10.
disappointment that we didn't take the win. But so much to be pleased | :18:10. | :18:13.
about in our performance and much to be positive going on in the | :18:13. | :18:18.
tournament. But we would have liked to have won and should have won. | :18:18. | :18:24.
big game was the highlight of the World Cup so far but no much -- no | :18:24. | :18:29.
matter how much they deserved to win, for them it is now win or bust. | :18:29. | :18:34.
Wales left Wellington for Taupo, a few hours from Hamilton, where they | :18:34. | :18:39.
will face Samoa on Sunday. Gareth Lewis is following the court -- | :18:39. | :18:41.
scored and I caught up with him earlier and asked how he thought | :18:41. | :18:46.
the players dealt with the defeat. They seemed angry, first of all, in | :18:46. | :18:52.
all honesty. Not at the referee given what had happened, angry with | :18:52. | :18:57.
themselves, I think, because yet again they had the chance to win | :18:57. | :19:03.
that game. It is another one that got away, and Sam Warburton said he | :19:03. | :19:11.
was fed up to the back teeth. I am sure now in the 24 hours since they | :19:11. | :19:17.
have taken stock. They are here in Taupo and they will move on to play | :19:17. | :19:21.
Samoa next weekend. Fully focused on that game and some good injury | :19:21. | :19:27.
news finally for warren Gatland. last, because he came out with | :19:27. | :19:31.
walking wounded. Stephen Jones and Gethin Jenkins are both expected to | :19:31. | :19:36.
take full part in training tomorrow. If they come through that and | :19:36. | :19:39.
subsequent training sessions, they will be available for selection | :19:39. | :19:46.
against Samoa on the weekend. If Wales picked up injuries against | :19:46. | :19:50.
the Springboks, it there was a bit strong chance Ryan Jones would | :19:50. | :19:56.
return home. However, Ryan Jones will stay here to continue his | :19:56. | :20:00.
recovery from a calf injury, and the hope is he will be fit to play | :20:00. | :20:06.
in the final pool game against Fiji. That is good news. You are in Taupo | :20:06. | :20:10.
a few hours from Hamilton where the next game will put -- take place. | :20:10. | :20:15.
How is the welcome there? It is quiet compared to Wellington. When | :20:15. | :20:23.
it done is a thriving, bustling place and toe-poke is on the... | :20:23. | :20:26.
There will be a big welcome for Wales tomorrow. They're are having | :20:26. | :20:33.
an open training session. A lot of Welsh fans headed to Hamilton for | :20:33. | :20:36.
the game and there is a big Polonaise in population, so plenty | :20:36. | :20:43.
of support in warren Gatland's home town of Fort Samoa. Keep this up to | :20:43. | :20:48.
date with everything out there. In football, Swansea City are still | :20:48. | :20:52.
waiting for their first goal and first win in the Premier League. | :20:52. | :20:58.
The Brits -- drew a blank for a 4th game in a row in a 1-0 defeat to | :20:58. | :21:03.
Arsenal. They are now 19th in the table and one place of the bottom | :21:03. | :21:05.
with manager Brendan Rodgers not travelling to the match because of | :21:05. | :21:10.
the death of his father. Cardiff City are up to six in the | :21:10. | :21:15.
Championship after a 2-0 win over Doncaster. Gerrard got there first | :21:15. | :21:19.
and Robert Earnshaw put the glaring miss for Wales out of his system | :21:19. | :21:23.
would the second. In cricket, Glamorgan are making | :21:23. | :21:25.
history this evening by playing the first ever daylight County | :21:25. | :21:30.
Championship match. The four Day game at Canterbury is being played | :21:30. | :21:34.
under floodlights until 9pm each night using high-visibility pink | :21:34. | :21:39.
balls. It is part of an experiment to see a first class cricket can be | :21:39. | :21:43.
played under lights. Glamorgan seemed to be enjoying it the moment | :21:43. | :21:48.
though, Kent 185-6. No sign of peace breaking -- | :21:48. | :21:52.
breaking out between World champion boxer Nathan Cleverly and opponent | :21:52. | :21:55.
Tony Bellew. They held a press conference today in Cardiff to | :21:55. | :21:59.
promote their fight in Liverpool on 15th October. They almost came to | :21:59. | :22:02.
blows at a similar event earlier this year and police were called | :22:02. | :22:09.
after exchanges between the rival camps threatened to get out of hand. | :22:09. | :22:15.
The I don't think I have ever disrespected 10 or said anything | :22:15. | :22:20.
obtuse or fissures. -- disrespected him. But I do say I can be vicious | :22:20. | :22:26.
and militias and nasty but I save that for fight nights. A lot of | :22:27. | :22:31.
people including people from this area want to see me beat Tony | :22:31. | :22:37.
Bellew because they know what he is like with his loudmouth. I want to | :22:37. | :22:42.
teach and some respect. Lots of fighting talk there. It was the | :22:42. | :22:45.
greatest maritime tragedy of its day, the Royal Charter was the | :22:45. | :22:48.
queen of the British passenger fleet with nearly 500 passengers | :22:48. | :22:54.
and crew died when she ran aground off the Anglesey coast in 1859. | :22:54. | :22:58.
The wreck has long fascinated divers and treasure hunters and now | :22:58. | :23:02.
there is new underwater footage of how she looks on the seabed. His | :23:02. | :23:08.
Roger Pinney. The waters may be a murky, but the | :23:08. | :23:11.
artifacts are unmistakable. Here, barnacle encrusted chain links | :23:11. | :23:16.
provide shelter for a hermit crab. The maker's Mark can still be read | :23:16. | :23:23.
on a fragment from a bone china dinner plate. It is 152 years after | :23:23. | :23:28.
the Royal Charter foundered. When she was built on the Dee at | :23:28. | :23:31.
Sandycroft in present-day Print Show she was state of the art. The | :23:31. | :23:35.
Queen Mary to of a day -- present a venture. Underwater filming has | :23:35. | :23:39.
revealed a snapshot of life on board. We would love to say there | :23:39. | :23:43.
is lots of treasure there but it is mainly miscellaneous items that | :23:43. | :23:51.
were available to the passengers. Jelly moulds, knives, forks, spoons, | :23:51. | :23:56.
the occasional pistol. Just everything that was around in | :23:56. | :24:01.
Victorian times. At the time of the loss the Royal Charter made | :24:01. | :24:05.
headlines around the world. Passengers included Australian gold | :24:05. | :24:08.
rush millionaires, some still carrying their bullying. When the | :24:08. | :24:12.
storm hit, the captain tried to sit out of the Anglesey coast, but in | :24:13. | :24:17.
the dark of night she was driven on to rocks. It is windy here today | :24:17. | :24:21.
but this does not compare to the storm which swept through here the | :24:21. | :24:25.
night the Royal Charter ran aground. Then, the winds were 100 mph, | :24:25. | :24:30.
hurricane force, and not even her anchor chains could hold of. The | :24:30. | :24:33.
Royal Charter has become a passion for Chris Holden and his wife | :24:33. | :24:37.
Lesley. He has made countless times on her and today they have written | :24:37. | :24:41.
a book telling the ship's story. There were a lot of very wealthy | :24:42. | :24:45.
people on board who lost their lives. And number of bodies were | :24:45. | :24:52.
found with quite a lot of gold in their pockets. And gold was very | :24:52. | :24:57.
heavy for trying to swim ashore in incredible weather, with gold in | :24:57. | :25:01.
your pockets, you won't stand a chance at all. Rumours of gold left | :25:01. | :25:07.
on board still persist. What is it about a shipwreck? | :25:07. | :25:10.
Not many of you know this but Derek owes his career to what happened | :25:10. | :25:16.
when the Royal Charter ran aground, isn't that right? It led to the | :25:16. | :25:20.
first gale warning service by the Met Office in 1860. You have had a | :25:20. | :25:24.
busy day today. Yes. The weather has kept me on my | :25:24. | :25:28.
toes. Lots of gale warnings in force today. The strongest wind in | :25:28. | :25:34.
the north near Capel Curig in Snowdonia, 81 mph recorded. In the | :25:34. | :25:39.
south, the highest 62 mph at Mumbles Head near Swansea. There is | :25:39. | :25:43.
still a Met Office wind warning for the next few hours, as strong to | :25:43. | :25:47.
gale force wind, and the reason for this weather is the remains of | :25:47. | :25:52.
Hurricane Katia who will move off to Norway tonight and weaken. It is | :25:52. | :25:56.
a windy evening out there, staying windy overnight, and the wind will | :25:56. | :26:00.
ease a little with the odd shower here and there but on the whole dry | :26:00. | :26:04.
with breaks in the cloud, most temperatures 11-14 Celsius. | :26:04. | :26:08.
Tomorrow morning, parts of the North, Mid Wales and these will | :26:08. | :26:13.
start dry and bright enough with sunshine, but elsewhere cloudy. -- | :26:13. | :26:18.
and the East. Holst -- heavy showers as well. Not as windy as | :26:18. | :26:22.
today, a fresh to strong westerly breeze. Showers spreading across | :26:22. | :26:26.
the country tomorrow and you may hear a rumble of thunder but in the | :26:26. | :26:29.
afternoon the showers will ease with more dry weather, the best of | :26:29. | :26:33.
the sunshine in the south and east. Feeling for tomorrow, not as windy | :26:33. | :26:39.
as today but still strong enough, forecast winds 46 mph in Barry, 48 | :26:39. | :26:44.
in Aberystwyth. On Wednesday, less Windsor -- windy with a few showers | :26:44. | :26:49.
and a little sunshine. Beyond that, Thursday the best day, dry would | :26:49. | :26:54.
like wind and sunshine but it looks to turn unsettled by the weekend. | :26:54. | :26:57.
The Conwy Honey Fair is taking place tomorrow and it will be | :26:57. | :27:01.
sweeter than today weather Wise and less windy, with sunshine. Our | :27:01. | :27:07.
picture tonight is from and rich Morgan, Brig waves crashing into | :27:07. | :27:13.
