Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story tonight: The faces of the

families thank the emergency services and the community. An

investigation is under way. We are going to do this

investigation properly. Everybody expects that from us and I can

assure everybody that we will get to the bottom of this situation.

A community in mourning pays its respects - the appeal fund for the

miners' families has already reached �50,000. The response to

the Appeal has been tremendous. The telephones have been ringing off

the wall and we have had a steady stream of people coming to the

office with private donations all Our other headlines tonight: Wales

loses out on Jaguar Land Rover's new engine plant and 750 jobs. The

company behind plans to build a waste incinerator here has a

history of breaking environment regulations in the United States. A

killed at the Gleision Colliery have paid tribute to the men who

lost their lives when the mine flooded last Thursday. It also

proves to the bravery of the rescue teams who worked tirelessly for two

days. An investigation into what happened is ongoing. The wall of

flowers left by well-wishers has grown over the weekend. One note

simply reads, love you and miss you, Dad.

With the investigation well under way into exactly what happened here,

and how this small drift mine claimed the lives of four

experienced miners, today we learnt more about the men who died. Their

families released pictures of their loved ones along with their own

tributes. Charles who was 62 and married for 40 years had followed

his father into the minds and had worked out most of the Small mines

in the area. A community man who loved his fishing and balls, he had

just finished building his dream home. His family crest the

dedication of the emergency David Powell, 50, is described as a

proud Collier, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and true

friend. He was alive and so, he brought joy and fun to everyone he

met, said his family. Philip Hill, 45, had lost his mother and son in

recent months. The family in particular wish to take the

opportunity to sign the mind's rescue teams who worked tirelessly

to bring art Philip home safely but sadly in the end, says a tribute.

Garry Jenkins, 39, was described by He lived life to that bill,

enjoying his caravan and was passionate about darts. His son is

quoted as saying, I am going to The investigation into what caused

this tragedy is being led by South Wales police, working with the

Health and Safety Executive. A know that something has gone wrong, but

that we're absolutely sure, but it would be improper for me to

speculate at this moment in time and obviously, we are going to do

What is already accepted is that the men died when water broke into

the mind. A drift mine, it has worked sideways into the hillside,

entered through a tunnel, following the call. They were working at a.

Mother of 800 feet inside. They used explosives to dislodge the

rock and that is standard practice but it released a flood water that

filled part of the tunnel. That was pumped out and the debris formed

another obstacle. Three of their bodies were found close to each

other in the area where they had been working. The 4th, on the other

side the blockage. There was no roof collapse, there was no damage

to the passageway, just blockages caused by timber and debris that

had washed in with the water. It was like a train coming down a

passage way with a four-foot wall of water in front of it, it must

have been horrendous when the water entered the mind. Three miners

escaped, two of them were at the exit when the water came in. One of

them, the son of one of those who died. They ran to safety and they

are helped in the rescue efforts. A third miner who escaped suffered

serious injuries. He is being treated in hospital where he is in

in an induced,. This afternoon it was announced that the inquest into

the deaths is expected to be opened later this week or early next week.

The whole community has been affected by what happened. A fund

set up to support the families has now reached more than �50,000. Nick

Palit has been in the Swansea Valley to find out how they are

pulling together. A dark cloud hangs over the village

today. This community was home to one of the dead miners and also

looks directly onto the hillside that tops the mind. One that

hillside, the police roadblock is now gone, replaced by a cordon of

flowers. The weather here today echoes the mood of the valley -

dark and sombre. As the hours pass, more floral tributes lined the

route to the mind. Messages of support for the families, this one

typical, heartbreakingly sad - the pean we are feeling reverberates

throughout Wales and beyond. As the investigation into the accident

continues from some involved in the rest you have been talking about

the mental and physical told the operation exacted from them will

stop a when they heard that the 4th person had been found, all our

hearts sank. All along, it was a search and rescue mission and we

kept driving ourselves forward that after 36 hours on the site, all my

energy suddenly sank and I think I was ready for home. Over the

weekend, the community came together to remember the miners and

show support for their families. Here, a makeshift memorial and

candlelit vigil. The local MP helped launch an appeal fund to

support the miners' families. It has already raised �50,000.

Five enterprise zones will be created across Wales to help

businesses, companies in those homes will get rates relief. The

announcement comes as after it was announced that Wales have lost out

on 750 jobs at a new Jaguar engine plant. It will be in a tent in an

area which is an enterprise zone. Live now to our business

correspondent. Ivan the very lively surroundings

of the Cardiff Business Club for their first meeting of the year and

tonight we will have an announcement, much-anticipated, on

enterprise zones in Wales. They have already been proposals under

way in England to try and help companies in certain areas and

tonight I can tell you there will be a five in Wales. In the Cardiff

Central Business District, there will be his own on to financial-

services, in Anglesey, energy, in ever feel, the automotive sector

and in Deeside, advanced manufacturing and in the Vale of

Glamorgan, it will be about aeronautical industries. The

Business Minister this with me. What benefits those companies in

those sectors where they receive? This is the first stage of the

announcement, we're having discussions about other enterprises.

What has been made clear to me over the summer from industry and all

the people I have spoken to, they regard enterprise zones as a real

focal point for them. There is the issue of capital allowances which

has to be agreed with the government and we have ongoing

discussions there but this is the point of getting the businesses

together, how we can look at the training agenda and how they can

stack up everything else we can do in Wales. In terms of the

automotive, this has come too late, we have had news of Wales has lost

out in the Jaguar plant. That has to do with enterprise zones. We had

positive discussions with the company. If you look at Jaguar

Rover, they are ready end the air. I'm disappointed we were not in the

end game but and delighted they have come dupe the country as a

whole. How close to become? I won't go into the details but it is

important to look at what we are going to do with our supply chain

for this development and have all those positive discussions.

different sectors will get a variety of tax breaks and

incentives to try and improve the economy.

The jury at an inquest into the death of a 49 year-old steelworker

in Port Talbot has returned a verdict of accidental death. Kevin

Downey fell from a veranda at the Corus Steelworks in Port Talbot in

April 2006 and fell into a channel of molten metal slag. He was pulled

out but died later the same day. The Welsh government has ordered

that fare increases for rail passengers here will be lower than

those in England next year. Fares on Arriva Trains Wales services

will only go up by 1% above inflation next year. Those across

the border will rise by 3%. A tanker and a fishing vessel have

collided 20 miles off Anglesey. Holyhead coastguards were called to

the incident early this morning. The fishing boat was damaged but

its crew of three were uninjured and there are no pollution issues.

One of the Liberal Democrats' Welsh MPs claimed his party is reigning

in the Conservative coalition partners. Mark Williams was

speaking at the Lib Dem conference in Birmingham. Our Parliamentary

Correspondent is there. It is no secret that Welsh Liberal

Democrat MPs have at times been uncomfortable with the Conservative

lead coalition at Westminster. But they argue that they are making a

difference in important policy areas. Virtual darts, one way of

taking out the frustration of a coalition government. Here,

companies and charities try to get their message across and the Lib

Dems try to focus on delivery, even if some of the things they signed

before the election have been torn up in government. Are the pledges

worth the paper they are written on? Through the mud and the blood,

one Welsh MP. I have sold four of his badges. Mark Williams believes

coalition government can be tapped for the junior partners. My job and

our job as a Welsh party is within that context to be standing for

Wales and standing up for our constituents to temper those

constituents. They have been concerns and I like to think that

they have been tempered by a Conservative Party. The conference

is also a chance for a Ms to tell the Deputy Prime Minister where he

is going wrong. Is there enough space to tell them what she really

over double the permissible levels of dioxins. The company has denied

any risk to health. It is a stringent regime which

The Swansea City are celebrating a first Premier League win - and

Some things are just much more important than football. A moment

of pre-match reflection to remember the families of the Gleision

Colliery miners. A young fan tragically killed. And also the

recent passing of Brendan Rodgers' father. It put everything into

perspective. Swansea hadn't scored in four matches. And they said

there was no panic. Certainly, when the chance to score their first

top-flight goal came along, Scott Sinclair couldn't have been cooler.

He'll go down in history as the first man to score a Premier League

goal outside of England. Everything went the Swans' way on Saturday. A

set-play corner was executed to perfect. -- perfection. Leroy Lita

showing how much it meant to him to score his first goal for his new

club. And it was Lita's flick-on early in the second half which put

Nathan Dyer in for the third. It was an occasion to lift an area
