from the west That is

:00:00.:00:00.

Welcome to Wales Today. Tonight's headlines.

:00:00.:00:09.

More than 200 potential victims come forward as part of the investigation

:00:10.:00:12.

into historical child abuse in North Wales. Those individuals who have

:00:13.:00:20.

been through this and who have either not had their voices

:00:21.:00:24.

concerned or only now as adults feel they can release those concerns,

:00:25.:00:29.

have had to go through a lifetime of anguish and guilt about what has

:00:30.:00:30.

happened to them. Anglesey councillors tonight back a

:00:31.:00:51.

major new leisure and housing development.

:00:52.:00:53.

A major fire at a recycling plant, 45 fire-fighters were drafted in to

:00:54.:01:01.

bring it under control. They have not met a cancer target is 2008.

:01:02.:01:05.

Have not met in accident and emergency card -- target since

:01:06.:01:08.

2009. Tonight, fire crews are still

:01:09.:01:16.

working to make the area safe. The Prime Minister's stinging attack

:01:17.:01:19.

on Labour's record on health in Wales. The Labour leader says he

:01:20.:01:21.

doesn't know the facts. And offering vulnerable children a

:01:22.:01:25.

new home. Why there's a shortage of parents ready to adopt.

:01:26.:01:27.

Good evening. More than 200 potential victims have made

:01:28.:01:29.

allegations of historical abuse relating to children's homes across

:01:30.:01:32.

North Wales. The National Crime Agency, which launched Operation

:01:33.:01:35.

Pallial a year ago, says 100 alleged offenders have been named. 14 people

:01:36.:01:39.

have been arrested. Matthew Richards is at North Wales Police

:01:40.:01:45.

Headquarters. Thanks. It was Mark Polin, the Chief

:01:46.:01:50.

Constable of North Wales, who asked the National Crime Agency to

:01:51.:01:52.

investigate fresh allegations relating to the care system here

:01:53.:01:58.

dating back to the early '70s. Some of those identified as potential

:01:59.:02:01.

abusers have died, but the Agency says they will still be investigated

:02:02.:02:04.

so that victims can be kept informed of any developments.

:02:05.:02:10.

Back in April the man leading the investigation, Ian Mulcahey, joined

:02:11.:02:13.

the North Wales Chief Constable to give a progress report on Operation

:02:14.:02:18.

Pallial. Six months on, even more progress has been made. 235 people

:02:19.:02:24.

have now contacted the team. Full or partial names for 100 alleged

:02:25.:02:27.

offenders have been received. 14 arrests have been made, one man John

:02:28.:02:32.

Allen has been charged. The arrests relate to claims of sexual and

:02:33.:02:35.

physical abuse against children at a number of former care homes in North

:02:36.:02:40.

Wales. In the '70s and '80s these were the notorious institutions Bryn

:02:41.:02:45.

Estyn, Gatewen Hall and Bryn Alyn. The publicity generated from the

:02:46.:02:47.

revelations surrounding Jimmy Savile has encouraged many who have

:02:48.:02:50.

previously remained silent to speak out, often turning to groups like

:02:51.:02:57.

the NSPCC for help. The number of people are here now because of those

:02:58.:03:03.

abusive experiences. Those individuals who have lived through

:03:04.:03:07.

this have either had not their voices heard or only now as adults

:03:08.:03:12.

feel that they can raise those concerns have had to go through a

:03:13.:03:16.

lifetime of anguish and guilt about what has happened to them.

:03:17.:03:18.

The National Crime Agency says that a quarter of the 100 alleged abusers

:03:19.:03:22.

who've been named have died. Though they can't be prosecuted they will

:03:23.:03:25.

still be investigated so that prosecutors can assess whether they

:03:26.:03:28.

would have been charged if still alive. That's so that victims can

:03:29.:03:31.

feel that their claims have been listened to and acted on.

:03:32.:03:37.

This is still a very active and wide-ranging enquiry. The most

:03:38.:03:40.

recent arrest was just a couple of weeks ago. It is not just in North

:03:41.:03:45.

Wales, even though that are where most of the claims are centred. Many

:03:46.:03:49.

of these alleged victims and in their 40s and 50s and have moved on

:03:50.:03:53.

to other parts of the UK. Investigations and as far afield as

:03:54.:03:59.

Scotland. It is not just the police who are involved, many of the

:04:00.:04:05.

associated agencies like the NSPCC are working alongside the Crown

:04:06.:04:08.

Prosecution Service, who say they will investigate people even if

:04:09.:04:12.

these alleged abusers have died. Can we counsel -- Conwy council is

:04:13.:04:19.

working with local authorities to do with people who are coming forward

:04:20.:04:22.

with allegations. Why are we seeing so many potential

:04:23.:04:27.

victims coming forward now? The publicity has a lot to do with

:04:28.:04:33.

it. A lot of the poll had bottled these feelings for many years. Every

:04:34.:04:37.

person who comes forward stimulator another person I saying if they can

:04:38.:04:43.

do it is so can I. They feel that ultimately it is something that they

:04:44.:04:47.

should do. I think the CPS has said they have changed and attitudes are

:04:48.:04:51.

they looking at the specific allegations rather than the,

:04:52.:04:54.

perhaps, the stability of the person making the allegation.

:04:55.:05:01.

Anglesey council has given the green light to controversial plans which

:05:02.:05:05.

developers say could bring up to 600 jobs to Holyhead, a month after they

:05:06.:05:10.

rejected the same proposals. A company called Land and Lakes wants

:05:11.:05:13.

to build a massive leisure park and housing development on the outskirts

:05:14.:05:17.

of the town. As Roger Pinney reports it's an issue which has divided

:05:18.:05:24.

people who live there. A wet day in Holyhead, the streets

:05:25.:05:28.

are quiet. Speak to traders and that is often the case. Good jobs are

:05:29.:05:34.

hard to fight the top prospect of a massive development on the outskirts

:05:35.:05:38.

has split pin in -- opinion. Others are worried about the effect on the

:05:39.:05:44.

Welsh language. I found both sides of the debate here. Definitely,

:05:45.:05:51.

definitely. It is everything that will follow Everything Everything.

:05:52.:06:01.

-- land and lakes. I am for rate and against this because of the Welsh

:06:02.:06:05.

language. He pulled coming here from all over the place. It is the jobs

:06:06.:06:13.

you want. Everyone seems to have an opinion. This woman has worked at

:06:14.:06:16.

this bread shop for 18 years. We needed, not as, but for our

:06:17.:06:23.

children's generation. It will just bring, not just the jobs there,

:06:24.:06:30.

outside businesses is going to need to be supplying them. I think an

:06:31.:06:34.

awful lot more business will comment. That is what Land and Lakes

:06:35.:06:42.

has promised. It will employ 450 people with a further 150 jobs

:06:43.:06:48.

generated locally. Whole project is underpinned by housing. It is to be

:06:49.:06:52.

built on undeveloped land owned by Anglesey aluminium. The company

:06:53.:06:56.

closed four years ago. Holyhead's economy was in the poor state even

:06:57.:07:01.

before the closure of this plant. The loss of jobs made things much

:07:02.:07:07.

worse. When the company he pulled out there was much talk about

:07:08.:07:10.

legacy, they said they didn't want to leave the place with nothing. The

:07:11.:07:14.

Land and Lakes development is part of that. Today, both sides were out

:07:15.:07:19.

in force as Anglesey Council met for a second time to discuss the plan.

:07:20.:07:23.

The debate has been set. Councillors have spoken of being dammed if you

:07:24.:07:31.

do and dammed if you don't. The scepticism about the promised jobs.

:07:32.:07:37.

Local jobs can be anywhere, there is a 90 minute radius for local jobs.

:07:38.:07:43.

That could mean Liverpool. If they are Remploy from Liverpool, they are

:07:44.:07:48.

considered local. There is talk of it being time to heal the wounds.

:07:49.:07:53.

The population of Wales could increase by 4% in less than a decade

:07:54.:07:56.

reaching almost 3.2 million. That's according to new figures from the

:07:57.:07:59.

Office for National Statistics which also predict a 50% increase in the

:08:00.:08:02.

number of people aged over 65 between 2012 and 2037. But

:08:03.:08:08.

population growth is still expected to be lower here than in other parts

:08:09.:08:13.

of the UK. Detectives are re-investigating the

:08:14.:08:16.

disappearance of a mother of two, who went missing more than 30 years

:08:17.:08:20.

ago. Susanne Llewellyn-Jones from Cardiff, pictured here as police

:08:21.:08:23.

think she may look today, has not been seen since going to catch a

:08:24.:08:29.

train in 1980. Police interviewed a 68-year-old man from the Vale of

:08:30.:08:32.

Glamorgan in connection with her disappearance on Monday.

:08:33.:08:36.

Nearly 19,000 people in Wales have had their job-seeker's Allowance

:08:37.:08:39.

stopped or suspended, in order to make sure they actively seek work.

:08:40.:08:44.

Since October 2012 claimants have faced sanctions ranging from

:08:45.:08:47.

suspension of their benefits to a three-year ban if they don't look

:08:48.:08:54.

for work. Firefighters remain at an industrial

:08:55.:08:57.

estate in the Vale of Glamorgan tonight after a huge fire broke out

:08:58.:09:01.

at a recycling plant. At one point people living close to the estate

:09:02.:09:04.

were urged to close their windows and doors. Our reporter Natasha

:09:05.:09:07.

Llewellyn is in Llandow for us tonight.

:09:08.:09:17.

What is the latest? It is almost 24 hours since the fire broke out at

:09:18.:09:25.

Llandow industrial estate behind me. Firefighters worked throughout the

:09:26.:09:27.

night and all day today to try to bring the blaze under control and

:09:28.:09:31.

that you can see they are still here. I have been here most of the

:09:32.:09:34.

day myself on the weather conditions are poorer, the wind is very strong

:09:35.:09:40.

and that means the smoke has spread around the estate and is causing

:09:41.:09:44.

disruption for many businesses. It did not take long for this fire

:09:45.:09:49.

to rip through the site. The building is full of general waste

:09:50.:09:54.

and recycling materials, the flames spread quickly. At its height 45

:09:55.:10:00.

firefighters tackling the blaze. When the first crews attended they

:10:01.:10:03.

could see the fire developed at the back of the building. When the got

:10:04.:10:08.

the water it had taken hold of the whole of the promises. -- premises.

:10:09.:10:14.

It is a big area and the whole of the building was ablaze. Crews

:10:15.:10:21.

managed to stop the fire spreading to other properties. There was

:10:22.:10:24.

disruption to the industrial estate, the high winds meant the smoke

:10:25.:10:27.

engulfed the site. By lunchtime workers are being sent home. It is

:10:28.:10:33.

very, very smoky. Our building was full of smoke. The cars are going to

:10:34.:10:43.

be smelling tomorrow. I have sent one lad home. It is going to be no

:10:44.:10:51.

work and no earnings. People living nearby were also affected. They will

:10:52.:10:55.

want to stay inside their homes and close all windows because there was

:10:56.:10:58.

a potential risk of asbestos burning from site so. -- from the site.

:10:59.:11:06.

Crews remain at the industrial estate to dampen down. The file

:11:07.:11:09.

expected to learn for two or three days. That the fire is expected to

:11:10.:11:16.

burn. The focus has been on the safety and bringing that blaze under

:11:17.:11:20.

control. The next few days the attention will turn to the

:11:21.:11:24.

investigation, find out what has happened and what caused the blaze.

:11:25.:11:28.

Fire crews tell me they are not going to rule out anything at the

:11:29.:11:32.

moment because it is in the early stages but they say the fact the

:11:33.:11:35.

bonfire night happened last night is not being linked. Where expected to

:11:36.:11:40.

find out over the next few days. Building new homes, recycling and

:11:41.:11:43.

meals on wheels - all services we'd associate with our councils. But new

:11:44.:11:47.

research shows housing associations are now providing them instead and

:11:48.:11:50.

that's pumping hundreds of millions of pounds into the Welsh economy.

:11:51.:11:54.

More from our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

:11:55.:12:02.

It is the changing face of public services in Wales. How do we provide

:12:03.:12:05.

them as the squeeze on finances continues. House-building in the

:12:06.:12:11.

private sector has been badly hit by the economic downturn and councils

:12:12.:12:14.

are restricted in what they can do by budget and borrowing rules.

:12:15.:12:17.

Projects like this one near Haverfordwest show they are not for

:12:18.:12:22.

profit sector is continuing to build. Temperature Housing

:12:23.:12:25.

Association has used a new finance model to go work going on 12 new

:12:26.:12:31.

houses. Every time pounds we spend on housing the public purse was in

:12:32.:12:40.

?3. -- for every ?10 we spend. We can basically built more homes for

:12:41.:12:47.

less public money. It borrows from banks to fund the project well the

:12:48.:12:52.

Welsh Government contributes to the repayment of the mortgage and local

:12:53.:12:54.

contractors are used to love the houses. The supply chain is quite

:12:55.:13:02.

large. For Pembrokeshire, a lovely project. For every building

:13:03.:13:07.

contractor. New research shows building Association spent ?1

:13:08.:13:11.

billion in the last year and increase of 8.7% from the previous

:13:12.:13:20.

one. Most of that is being here. -- staying here. Housing associations

:13:21.:13:23.

are taking on additional community work. One in North Wales is

:13:24.:13:30.

providing meals on wheels service on Anglesey after the council withdrew

:13:31.:13:37.

its provision. I couldn't cock. I rely on the meals. I can't cook. It

:13:38.:13:45.

is affordable for us and sustainable. Not everyone is

:13:46.:13:54.

convinced by the not-for-profit model. Residents voted against

:13:55.:14:00.

transferring their homes to housing associations. Central and local

:14:01.:14:05.

government can borrow money cheaper to do the same work. Experts say

:14:06.:14:10.

more public borrowing is the last thing the government wants. Housing

:14:11.:14:15.

associations can borrow, in the private sector, it can borrow for

:14:16.:14:20.

social housing and it is and increase the national debt. It is

:14:21.:14:26.

privately owned in that sense. It is in that attractive for governments

:14:27.:14:30.

to off-load it, off-balance sheet in this way. What is less clear is how

:14:31.:14:38.

future plans of the affected by the UK Government's benefit changes

:14:39.:14:44.

which might affect the rents coming in.

:14:45.:14:46.

Still to come. Ann and Sally say they had trouble adopting five years

:14:47.:14:50.

ago. Now a drive to dispel the myths over who can adopt and make it

:14:51.:14:58.

easier. Adoption agencies and looking out for people of all sorts

:14:59.:15:03.

of agents and in all sorts of family situations because that is a

:15:04.:15:06.

shortage of parents out there. Did children. -- for adopted children.

:15:07.:15:11.

The Prime Minister has criticised the Welsh Government's record on the

:15:12.:15:15.

NHS. David Cameron told MPs at question time there was "a crisis

:15:16.:15:18.

every day of the week in Wales". He said the performance of the health

:15:19.:15:22.

service here was worse than in England. We don't have to remember

:15:23.:15:30.

the labour record of the past, we can look at the Labour record in

:15:31.:15:35.

Wales. They have been running the Welsh health service, they cut the

:15:36.:15:41.

budget by 8.5%, they have not met a cancer target since 2008, have not

:15:42.:15:49.

met a A target since 2009. He is too weak to stand up to the poor

:15:50.:15:54.

management of the NHS in Wales just as he is too weak to sack his Health

:15:55.:15:56.

Secretary. Our parliamentary correspondent, David Cornock, is at

:15:57.:15:59.

Westminster. David, what prompted the Prime Minister's attack?

:16:00.:16:05.

David Cameron was responding to a question from the Labour -- leader.

:16:06.:16:18.

As you have heard, the Prime Minister chose to respond by talking

:16:19.:16:23.

about the NHS in Wales because he believes that Labour are formidable

:16:24.:16:27.

over their records and the fact that in Wales, until now, Labour has

:16:28.:16:32.

tended to freeze spending on the NHS whereas in England it has sort of,

:16:33.:16:37.

in line with inflation. What has the Welsh Government had to say? The

:16:38.:16:41.

Welsh Government has issued a statement. It says are faced with

:16:42.:16:45.

serious questions about redundancies and the NHS in England, it is

:16:46.:16:50.

regrettable that the Prime Minister chose to launch an inaccurate attack

:16:51.:16:53.

on the NHS in Wales. The last government says that the Welsh

:16:54.:16:59.

Government says it has been meeting its cancer targets. Question Time in

:17:00.:17:04.

the Assembly, First Minister 's questions, Carwyn Jones was using

:17:05.:17:09.

question Time to launch an attack on the coalition government's record on

:17:10.:17:14.

the NHS in England. It looks as if the First Minister was getting his

:17:15.:17:17.

retaliation in first. Next year, the American president

:17:18.:17:20.

will be arriving in Newport for the NATO summit. It's thought to be the

:17:21.:17:25.

first time that a sitting US president will have come to Wales in

:17:26.:17:28.

an official capacity. Today, the new American Ambassador to the UK came

:17:29.:17:32.

to get the lay og the and during an official visit. Nick Servini went to

:17:33.:17:40.

meet him. 1990, Margaret Thatcher was prime

:17:41.:17:44.

minister and it was the last time a NATO summit was held in Britain.

:17:45.:17:49.

Fast forward 22 years and this was Chicago last year, a summit which

:17:50.:17:52.

was said to have generated millions for the local economy. Wales has

:17:53.:17:59.

never welcomed an American president formula -- formerly. Today, Wales

:18:00.:18:09.

welcomed the American ambassador, Matthew Barzun on his first official

:18:10.:18:14.

visit here. He is in no doubt about the potential benefits for the

:18:15.:18:18.

country. I think this NATO summit is going to be a major moment as in the

:18:19.:18:24.

future we will reflect back on this moment. It puts it in the

:18:25.:18:28.

international spotlight, all these Americans are going to be looking at

:18:29.:18:34.

Newport, at Cardiff and all of Wales. It is a wonderful opportunity

:18:35.:18:38.

to showcase what is happening here. The Celtic Manor reportedly beat off

:18:39.:18:43.

competition from 80 other venues to host the summit. In marks a Triumph

:18:44.:18:47.

for Sir Terry Matthews after the Celtic Manor hosted the Ryder Cup

:18:48.:18:55.

three years ago. This will feel very different from other sporting events

:18:56.:18:58.

that has happened in the past because the subject for this one

:18:59.:19:02.

will the international politics. Next year, the withdrawal of troops

:19:03.:19:07.

from Afghanistan. Most of the discussions surrounding this event

:19:08.:19:11.

will take place in places like this, the University of South Wales which

:19:12.:19:16.

the ambassador is visiting today. He gave the student and mini

:19:17.:19:21.

presentation as President Obama's election campaign. I asked some of

:19:22.:19:26.

them how they felt about major the dramatic events being held on their

:19:27.:19:30.

doorstep. I like the fact that something so big is coming to Wales

:19:31.:19:34.

because I feel Wales is sometimes ignored. We have a lot of passionate

:19:35.:19:38.

people here. You have got the American bass into here today you

:19:39.:19:42.

have got the American president here next year. What are the big issues

:19:43.:19:47.

you will be looking out for? I guess it will be privacy, how far you can

:19:48.:19:53.

go with tapping phones and so on. There is a fine balance between how

:19:54.:19:58.

far you should go when is enough enough? This'll be his job next year

:19:59.:20:07.

when he has to tell the most powerful man in the world, the

:20:08.:20:10.

American president, about the country he is about to visit.

:20:11.:20:13.

The Welsh Field of Remembrance has been unveiled in the grounds of

:20:14.:20:15.

Cardiff Castle. 15,000 wooden crosses, each with its own poppy and

:20:16.:20:19.

message, remember the men and women who've lost their lives while

:20:20.:20:27.

serving in the armed forces. Some of our most vulnerable children

:20:28.:20:31.

are being let down because of a "significant shortage" of people

:20:32.:20:35.

coming forward to adopt. That's the warning from the British Association

:20:36.:20:40.

of Adoption and Fostering. There are nearly 6,000 children in care in

:20:41.:20:45.

Wales. Confusion over the way the adoption process works means there

:20:46.:20:48.

aren't enough people coming forward to offer children a new home. Carwyn

:20:49.:20:52.

Jones reports. Sally and Anne from Swansea have

:20:53.:20:55.

been in a same sex relationship for 30 years. They're also the adoptive

:20:56.:21:01.

parents of six-year-old Nathan. Being a gay couple in their fifties

:21:02.:21:04.

means they were just as eligible to adopt a little boy as anyone else.

:21:05.:21:11.

Things have changed in the last five years. Adoption agencies actively

:21:12.:21:17.

looking out for people of all sorts of ages and in all sorts of family

:21:18.:21:21.

situations. There is a real shortage of parents out there.

:21:22.:21:24.

Age and sexuality aren't barriers in the way of adoption, but plenty of

:21:25.:21:28.

us still seem to think so. Figures show that one in two of use believe

:21:29.:21:31.

that being overweight, unemployed or over the age of 40 means that we

:21:32.:21:35.

can't adopt. And those misconceptions are leading to a

:21:36.:21:40.

shortage of adopters here. There are currently more than 5,700

:21:41.:21:43.

children in the care system in Wales, that figure's risen by nearly

:21:44.:21:47.

a quarter over the last five years. Around 300 of those children will

:21:48.:21:51.

need to be placed in adoptive homes each year but with fewer people

:21:52.:21:54.

coming forward, there are fears that some of our most vulnerable children

:21:55.:22:00.

are being let down. Penny Jeffreys from Cardiff has gone through the

:22:01.:22:07.

adoption process. She adopted her son as a single 43-year-old and

:22:08.:22:10.

found that her circumstances weren't an issue. A family is a family

:22:11.:22:17.

whether it has got one parent or two parents. As long as you can provide

:22:18.:22:20.

a good, loving and stable home you are the perfect choice for some

:22:21.:22:24.

children. In England there's been a huge push

:22:25.:22:27.

by Westminster for the adoption process to be made easier. By next

:22:28.:22:30.

year Wales will have a National Adoption service, which will aim to

:22:31.:22:34.

streamline the process and make it more consistent, no matter where in

:22:35.:22:37.

the country you live. But with many of us harbouring outdated

:22:38.:22:40.

misconceptions of who can adopt and how there are fears that hundreds of

:22:41.:22:44.

children will be stuck in the care system instead of finding a long

:22:45.:22:47.

term home. I'm joined by Wendy Keidan, who's

:22:48.:22:50.

Director of the British Association of Adoption and Fostering in Wales.

:22:51.:22:59.

We heard about some of the misconceptions surrounding adoption.

:23:00.:23:02.

Why do you think this seems to be this confusion? I think

:23:03.:23:08.

misconceptions grow up over time I get embedded into society. Even

:23:09.:23:11.

though adoption agencies have in saying that there are very few legal

:23:12.:23:17.

requirements to adopting, you have to be over 21, you have to be

:23:18.:23:23.

resident in the UK for a year before you are eligible to apply to adopt

:23:24.:23:27.

and criminal convictions against children with event April from

:23:28.:23:31.

adopting. There are few legal requirements. People get confused

:23:32.:23:38.

and if they don't approach adoption agencies that is where we get the

:23:39.:23:42.

problems and those myths get in bed it. What this research has

:23:43.:23:48.

demonstrated is those misconceptions, despite a lot of

:23:49.:23:52.

work winning out there to dispel the myths, they still exist today. This

:23:53.:23:59.

must be a real worry for you with that big increase in children in

:24:00.:24:03.

care in the last five years alone. Not enough people are coming forward

:24:04.:24:08.

to adopt. You must be worried. We are really concerned, there has been

:24:09.:24:12.

a rise over the last five years. About a quarter rise in children

:24:13.:24:21.

entering the care system. We ever understanding more about what

:24:22.:24:25.

happens to children and their development. If they remain in

:24:26.:24:31.

families where they are not being appropriately looked after. There is

:24:32.:24:35.

an imbalance of the number of people requiring. Sharon and the number of

:24:36.:24:45.

doctors coming forward. -- number of children requiring adoption.

:24:46.:24:49.

Football. John Hartson has stood down as Wales' Assistant Coach to

:24:50.:24:53.

spend more time with his family. He was part of Chris Coleman's backroom

:24:54.:24:56.

staff during the recent World Cup qualifying campaign. The former

:24:57.:24:59.

striker, who was diagnosed with cancer four years ago, has announced

:25:00.:25:02.

he'll become a father again next year.

:25:03.:25:02.

Rugby. Time for the weather now and how's

:25:03.:25:09.

it shaping up for the match on Saturday, Derek?

:25:10.:25:11.

It will be a case of dodging the showers but some sunshine as well.

:25:12.:25:16.

Sadly, no sunshine today. Just more rain and drizzle. Strong to gale

:25:17.:25:20.

force winds on the Bristol channel coast this afternoon with a gust of

:25:21.:25:26.

51mph at Mumbles Head. And a range in temperatures today. 14 Celsius in

:25:27.:25:28.

Saundersfoot. Only 9C in Llanfairfechan. This evening, a wet

:25:29.:25:32.

start. Some heavy rain and mist but gradually clearing. So drying up

:25:33.:25:36.

after midnight. The wind in the south easing. Lowest temperatures in

:25:37.:25:41.

the north. Dropping to 4C inland. Tomorrow promises to be a better

:25:42.:25:46.

day. Drier and brighter with just a few showers. Here's the picture for

:25:47.:25:51.

8am in the morning. Much clearer compared to today. Fresh and cool

:25:52.:25:55.

but most places dry and bright with sunshine. Good visibility as well.

:25:56.:26:04.

More cloud in Pembrokeshire with a few showers. During the day a few

:26:05.:26:09.

showers will spread across the country. If you catch one it could

:26:10.:26:13.

be quite sharp but hit and miss. Some places will miss them and stay

:26:14.:26:16.

dry. Top temperatures nine to 12 Celsius with a south west breeze.

:26:17.:26:20.

The wind becoming strong in the northwest with gusts around 45mph.

:26:21.:26:23.

In south west Wales tomorrow. Much better day than today. Drier with

:26:24.:26:26.

sunny spells. A few showers and breezy, especially on the coast with

:26:27.:26:30.

a high of 11 in Newcastle Emlyn. Tomorrow evening most places dry and

:26:31.:26:34.

clear. Just a few a showers near the coast. After midnight, though, a

:26:35.:26:37.

trough will bring showery rain. Heavy in places. Friday breezy.

:26:38.:26:40.

Further showers. Heavy in places with hail and thunder but some dry

:26:41.:26:43.

weather and sunshine as well. On Saturday it's a similar story. A

:26:44.:26:47.

mixture of sunshine and scattered showers. Again the showers heavy in

:26:48.:26:54.

places with thunder and hail. On Sunday, it's all change. A warm

:26:55.:26:57.

front bringing cloud, rain and drizzle. Turning milder and misty

:26:58.:26:58.

with hill fog. The main news from the BBC. More

:26:59.:27:11.

than 500 years of ship will be will come to an end in Portsmouth next

:27:12.:27:15.

year after the defence giants, BAE Systems, announced job cuts. Almost

:27:16.:27:24.

1800 jobs will go in total. It has been revealed that more than

:27:25.:27:28.

200 potential victims have made allegations of historical abuse

:27:29.:27:31.

relating to children's homes across North Wales.

:27:32.:27:34.

And that is Wales Today. We'll have a quick update at 8pm with more news

:27:35.:27:38.

at 10.25pm. For now though from all of us on the programme, have a good

evening.
