early 1990s. That's all from the BBC News at Six. It's goodbye from me. | :00:00. | 3:59:59
On You're watching Wales Today. Our top | :00:00. | :00:14.
story: The row over exams intensifies. Teachers say confidence | :00:15. | :00:17.
is being eroded as it emerges the Welsh Government assured schools | :00:18. | :00:19.
changes to GCSEs wouldn't disadvantage pupils. | :00:20. | :00:22.
We'll be taking a closer look at the English language paper proving so | :00:23. | :00:23.
controversial. One of Plaid Cymru's most prominent | :00:24. | :00:26.
politicians, Dafydd Elis-Thomas, is sacked as transport spokesman days | :00:27. | :00:28.
after criticising the party's leader. | :00:29. | :00:32.
We use them when buying a new home but concern tonight over 400 jobs at | :00:33. | :00:37.
the Land Registry in Swansea. In tonight's sport: Six changes in | :00:38. | :00:41.
the Wales team for the Sic Nations final against Scotland. Rhys | :00:42. | :00:44.
Priestland, Richard Hibbard and Adam Jones are all relegated to the | :00:45. | :00:49.
bench. And I'm at the very first St David | :00:50. | :00:53.
Awards, celebrating the remarkable achievements made by people from all | :00:54. | :00:56.
walks of life and from all over Wales. | :00:57. | :01:13.
BBC Wales has learnt that the Welsh Government gave assurances 16 months | :01:14. | :01:18.
ago to teachers that pupils would not be disadvantaged by the | :01:19. | :01:21.
introduction of new English language GCSE exams. Teachers from 100 | :01:22. | :01:25.
schools have expressed anger at unexpectedly low results received by | :01:26. | :01:28.
pupils who sat the new English GCSE in January. They say it's left | :01:29. | :01:33.
pupils, parents and teachers distraught. Here's our education | :01:34. | :01:42.
correspondent, Arwyn Jones. When we first revealed concerns | :01:43. | :01:45.
about January 's disappointing exam results last week teachers at the | :01:46. | :01:52.
school were among the first to share their concerns. A week on and they | :01:53. | :01:55.
are still none the wiser about what went wrong. Teachers are in a good | :01:56. | :02:00.
position to judge the standards of English in the classroom and the | :02:01. | :02:05.
performances of pupils. We will compare students over a period of | :02:06. | :02:08.
years, we will track their performance. The professional | :02:09. | :02:12.
judgement of teachers is what we relying on when he gets pupils | :02:13. | :02:16.
ready. The big change here is in the results. That has changed. He is one | :02:17. | :02:21.
of 100 head teachers who have given union -- evidence to their unions. | :02:22. | :02:33.
Over 100 schools have been entered to express their detailed | :02:34. | :02:36.
frustration, concern and confusion. Amongst the hundred, not a single | :02:37. | :02:41.
one of them have said they are concerned about the art, the | :02:42. | :02:48.
challenge being raised for their students. Every single one of them | :02:49. | :02:52.
almost has said we don't know where the bar has been set. These exams | :02:53. | :02:57.
were marked differently with more emphasis on spelling and grammar. | :02:58. | :03:02.
Teachers had sought and got assurances from the Bush government | :03:03. | :03:04.
about the changes well over a year ago. -- the Welsh Government. The | :03:05. | :03:15.
BBC has seen a letter who was addressing concerns by teachers | :03:16. | :03:18.
about the interdiction of the new guidelines. He acknowledged steps | :03:19. | :03:23.
had been taken with regard to the interdiction of the new | :03:24. | :03:26.
qualifications were an usual and unsettling. Before adding, he would | :03:27. | :03:30.
have liked that he will revised qualifications were available to | :03:31. | :03:35.
schools for the start of the year but these were exceptional | :03:36. | :03:39.
circumstances. The letter concludes, the Welsh Government will be closely | :03:40. | :03:43.
monitoring the interdiction, delivery and awarding of this new | :03:44. | :03:45.
qualification to ensure that learners are not in Filey advantaged | :03:46. | :03:53.
or disadvantage. -- unfairly. This is an example of the failure of the | :03:54. | :03:56.
Welsh Labour government to get a grip on education. Isn't it awful | :03:57. | :04:01.
that for the second year running we have a cohort of rubles who are | :04:02. | :04:06.
having the results they did not expect. -- cohort of pupils. We | :04:07. | :04:12.
asked the Education Minister for an interview and we were told Huw Lewis | :04:13. | :04:17.
would only do interviews was the worst governments's review reports | :04:18. | :04:22.
back to him at the end of the month. -- the Welsh Government. There is no | :04:23. | :04:25.
denying that have been some important issues across Wales which | :04:26. | :04:30.
need to be addressed but the impact is not severe across all schools. | :04:31. | :04:35.
Jenni Lees English language exams were unique to Wales for the first | :04:36. | :04:39.
time. It was meant to be a way of avoiding the regrading fiasco we saw | :04:40. | :04:43.
18 months ago. The pupils and teachers across Wales asked to | :04:44. | :04:47.
coming to terms with why the results were so much lower than expected. | :04:48. | :04:52.
So, thousands have sat the exam but what was in it and where have pupils | :04:53. | :04:56.
lost marks? We sent Caroline Evans back to school to take a look at the | :04:57. | :05:00.
paper and ask teachers and pupils what they think went wrong. | :05:01. | :05:08.
This is catered for students you would expect to get a EC trade or | :05:09. | :05:13.
lower. This is the higher paper for pupils you would expect to get a sea | :05:14. | :05:20.
grade or higher. 120 U-boats were put in for the language GCSE exam | :05:21. | :05:29.
here. Only 19% got a secret rebel. He told me where it went wrong. You | :05:30. | :05:33.
can see that is an extract here for the students to read and there are | :05:34. | :05:38.
three questions, 310 mark questions for that answer. The expected to | :05:39. | :05:44.
spend approximately an hour reading and answering these questions so | :05:45. | :05:52.
these are extended answer questions. Is this a new type of paper? Not | :05:53. | :05:57.
really. The whole format is similar to the former we moved away from | :05:58. | :06:02.
about four years ago. It is only the questions and the wording that are | :06:03. | :06:07.
what we would expect them to be. You feel you have been able to prepare | :06:08. | :06:10.
their students for this because it isn't a surprise. Where has the | :06:11. | :06:15.
failure happened? It is difficult to answer that question. We don't know. | :06:16. | :06:21.
The moderators report doesn't leave me any guidance as to where we have | :06:22. | :06:26.
gone wrong or not just us, the whole of Wales aims to have in struggling | :06:27. | :06:31.
with the same question. It is nothing new under paper, there is | :06:32. | :06:34.
nothing new in the moderators report. We have prepared students | :06:35. | :06:40.
for this pile of exam for years. Bash for this style. -- for this | :06:41. | :06:50.
style of exam for years. The 11th arrived English. Some were predicted | :06:51. | :06:55.
a grades but came out with the grades. They told me they feel their | :06:56. | :07:00.
futures are being thrown away. I am demotivated. You don't want to do | :07:01. | :07:06.
the exam because you think you are going to fail. It has taken away the | :07:07. | :07:12.
grades we should have had. Everyone is telling us we need to do better | :07:13. | :07:16.
but when we do better they are not better still. To do English language | :07:17. | :07:23.
at a level still and if I get a low-grade and was able to do of | :07:24. | :07:26.
course. That affect my future because it will affect my future | :07:27. | :07:31.
prospects. They are revising verbs. The waiting to see Derek some papers | :07:32. | :07:34.
that they can find out what went wrong. Until then, they say no one | :07:35. | :07:44.
can really move on. Our dedication corresponded joins us now. -- | :07:45. | :07:51.
education correspondence. We are no closer to finding out what went | :07:52. | :07:55.
wrong. Teachers say they weren't told enough about the changes. They | :07:56. | :07:59.
say we were given assurances by the Welsh Government that pupils would | :08:00. | :08:03.
not be at a disadvantage because of the changes. The education Minister | :08:04. | :08:10.
says one of two things. Firstly, wait for my review to come out at | :08:11. | :08:14.
the end of the month before making any accusations. Secondly, he throws | :08:15. | :08:18.
it acts to the teachers and headteachers. -- he throws it back. | :08:19. | :08:26.
More and more headteachers are coming out and expressing their | :08:27. | :08:29.
concerns. It is a stalemate because we don't know what went wrong and | :08:30. | :08:33.
until these two reports come back we won't know. The exam board have | :08:34. | :08:38.
reports coming back, hopefully next week. In the world 's governments's | :08:39. | :08:42.
reports coming back at the end of the month. There is concern about | :08:43. | :08:50.
the subjects. Teachers and parents have been getting Internet asking | :08:51. | :08:56.
for other subjects. Nothing else will change over the summer. It is | :08:57. | :09:02.
worth bearing in mind that as of last year for courses like history | :09:03. | :09:05.
and religious education, spelling and grammar discount 5%. That won't | :09:06. | :09:13.
be new this year, for parents and pupils the need not worried about | :09:14. | :09:15.
that element. Earlier this week he criticised his | :09:16. | :09:18.
party's leader, now he's been sacked. Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas has | :09:19. | :09:21.
been fired as Plaid Cymru's transport spokesman and as chair of | :09:22. | :09:23.
the Assembly's Environment Committee. It comes after he | :09:24. | :09:28.
criticised the leadership for its attack on the UK Independence Party. | :09:29. | :09:33.
Our political editor Nick Servini has been following developments. | :09:34. | :09:42.
This all goes back to Friday when the Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood | :09:43. | :09:48.
made a direct attack on UK sailing a vote for UKIP in the European | :09:49. | :09:52.
elections would be a vote against Wales and against the Welsh national | :09:53. | :09:57.
interest. The day after that, Dafydd Elis-Thomas describe the mode of | :09:58. | :10:02.
that attack is facile and that UKIP deserve to be treated more seriously | :10:03. | :10:08.
than it was by the party leadership are stuck at the time that criticism | :10:09. | :10:11.
was stripped away but clearly the leadership of taken it very | :10:12. | :10:16.
seriously. Lord Elis-Thomas jointly. As a matter of your political | :10:17. | :10:25.
experience, you surely can't be surprised you have been sacked for | :10:26. | :10:27.
criticising your leader in one of her pics each is? What concerned me | :10:28. | :10:36.
was the word then Welsh which appeared in a press release that day | :10:37. | :10:43.
before. I have got no support nor patience for UKIP, I am a strong | :10:44. | :10:50.
European. But we need to look to how we elect chairs of committees for | :10:51. | :10:53.
the Assembly because they are currently in a lift of party groups. | :10:54. | :10:58.
In Westminster they are elected by secret wallets. It is the intention | :10:59. | :11:04.
of the party to strip you of the chair of the environment committee. | :11:05. | :11:10.
In terms of the party and that criticism of UKIP, I spoke to a | :11:11. | :11:14.
number of European candidates and they just believed a vote for UKIP | :11:15. | :11:17.
is against the Welsh national interest. I don't mind that | :11:18. | :11:30.
expression, but I do not like the expression un-Welsh. Has Plaid Cymru | :11:31. | :11:36.
got a problem with defining Welsh and is? -- Welshness? I don't | :11:37. | :11:53.
understand what this issue is. Young people talked about the mixed | :11:54. | :11:58.
identities they had. They can be was, British, they can be Welsh and | :11:59. | :12:04.
European, this is not an issue. Identity is not an issue, I don't | :12:05. | :12:10.
leave in -- I believe international politics. Are you going to challenge | :12:11. | :12:22.
that? It is the vote in a Assembly. I shall consider over the weekend | :12:23. | :12:26.
whether I should object. I don't want to waste the Assembly is time | :12:27. | :12:31.
to stop I went to see if we can have a real independence for chairs of | :12:32. | :12:35.
committees. Back to you in the studio. | :12:36. | :12:39.
The trial of the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, | :12:40. | :12:42.
Nigel Evans, has been hearing from one man who says he woke up to find | :12:43. | :12:47.
the MP's hands all over him. He claims he was assaulted by the | :12:48. | :12:50.
Swansea-born MP while he slept on a sofa. The man said he wasn't keen on | :12:51. | :12:55.
reporting the incident at the time. Mr Evans denies all the charges | :12:56. | :12:58.
against him. A church minister from | :12:59. | :13:00.
Carmarthenshire has been charged over an allegation of historical | :13:01. | :13:04.
child abuse. 82-year-old Gwyn Ieuan Morgan will appear in court next | :13:05. | :13:06.
month accused of indecently assaulting a boy aged under 14. He's | :13:07. | :13:15.
been suspended from his two chapels. Helping scientists discover new | :13:16. | :13:17.
medicines and develop green energy, those are the aims of new research | :13:18. | :13:23.
networks set up today. The Welsh Government hopes it will help the | :13:24. | :13:26.
quality of scientific research here. It's investing ?21 million into the | :13:27. | :13:40.
project. There is concern tonight over 400 jobs at the Land Registry | :13:41. | :13:44.
in Swansea. The PCS Union won't rule out going | :13:45. | :13:47.
on strike over UK Government proposals to part privatise the Land | :13:48. | :13:55.
Registry. Land Registry have kept records of property ownership since | :13:56. | :14:02.
1862. It is information on 23 million properties and it is all | :14:03. | :14:05.
available to the public. Land Registry as part of the UK | :14:06. | :14:10.
governments's Department for business, innovation and skills. It | :14:11. | :14:15.
is self funding. When a house is sold in new ownership needs to be | :14:16. | :14:21.
recorded, it makes money that way. But the UK Government is examining | :14:22. | :14:25.
options to part privatise the organisation. That is raised | :14:26. | :14:29.
concerns in Swansea where more than 400 and 30p will work in Land | :14:30. | :14:34.
Registry's Wales office. This woman is one of them. It is a difficult | :14:35. | :14:40.
and stressful time for people here. We're not knowing what is going on | :14:41. | :14:46.
with jobs. With the ongoing government consultation into the | :14:47. | :14:49.
future of the Land Registry, and how that is going to pan out. The | :14:50. | :14:53.
proposal is to introduce a new service. In Egypt eight in | :14:54. | :14:58.
Westminster, the business minister said it was government policy. -- in | :14:59. | :15:11.
a debate in Westminster. If it ain't broke, why are we fixing it? It is | :15:12. | :15:17.
highly respected. Even the legal profession is saying this is a step | :15:18. | :15:22.
too far. Land Registry provides an essential service for estate agent. | :15:23. | :15:28.
They say any private company that steps" have to maintain the current | :15:29. | :15:33.
standards. Although the wonder if any changes necessary. As far as we | :15:34. | :15:38.
are concerned, there is no change needed. The information provided is | :15:39. | :15:45.
always accurate. I think the costs are going down in the next few | :15:46. | :15:50.
months, so we're quite happy with it as it is. A consultation period into | :15:51. | :15:55.
the future of Land Registry is used to end next week. The business | :15:56. | :16:01.
department says no decision will be taken until all responses have been | :16:02. | :16:05.
considered and it is impossible to fully understand the impact on staff | :16:06. | :16:07.
until then. Still ahead tonight: Mike Phillips | :16:08. | :16:10.
and Dan Biggar will start for Wales as Warren Gatland names his side to | :16:11. | :16:14.
face Scotland. Are you a member of a sports club? | :16:15. | :16:18.
More of us are joining but there's concern tonight over wider | :16:19. | :16:26.
participation levels. Some parents are being denied access | :16:27. | :16:29.
to justice in the family courts because of changes to the legal aid | :16:30. | :16:33.
system. That's according to the Law Society. BBC Wales has spoken to one | :16:34. | :16:37.
woman who had to represent herself in court against experienced | :16:38. | :16:41.
solicitors following the changes. Paul Heaney reports. | :16:42. | :16:45.
Barristers protesting about cuts to free legal help for those who can't | :16:46. | :16:49.
afford it and potentially fewer clients for them. This was about | :16:50. | :16:54.
legal aid for criminal cases, but the UK Government's reforms are | :16:55. | :16:58.
having an impact on civil and family cases too. Back in Wales, this woman | :16:59. | :17:03.
is fighting to keep custody of her child. She spoke to me anonymously | :17:04. | :17:08.
to protect the child's identity. She's representing herself in the | :17:09. | :17:10.
family court up against an experienced solicitor. | :17:11. | :17:20.
Everything was all emotions. I had to come to a point in myself | :17:21. | :17:23.
thinking, sort herself out and do your best on that day. Whatever is | :17:24. | :17:28.
going to happen is going to happen because there is nothing else I can | :17:29. | :17:31.
do. It is frightening, not worrying, Fry them. -- frightening. | :17:32. | :17:36.
Family courts decide who should look after children in custody disputes. | :17:37. | :17:40.
They're not open to the public - journalists cannot identify anyone | :17:41. | :17:43.
involved. Here, a court artist gives an impression of what this case | :17:44. | :17:46.
witnessed by BBC Wales looks like. A father represented by an experienced | :17:47. | :17:50.
lawyer. His legal fees paid for by the government because he can't | :17:51. | :17:52.
afford them and crucially his application for legal aid was before | :17:53. | :17:56.
the rules changed. The woman we've spoken to argues her own case for | :17:57. | :18:00.
custody of the child against the solicitor. That's because she | :18:01. | :18:03.
applied for legal aid after the rules change in April last year. | :18:04. | :18:08.
Many in the legal profession say those changes are unfair. It is | :18:09. | :18:16.
causing people to turn away from the justice system, which in effect is | :18:17. | :18:21.
to deny them access to justice. There are cases where children are | :18:22. | :18:29.
not seeing their parents because the parent who does not have residents | :18:30. | :18:34.
of the isn't able to apply to the courts foreign order. We have made | :18:35. | :18:40.
certain that anyone who has been the victim of domestic violence will | :18:41. | :18:44.
have access to the solicitor. It wasn't possible to do it for every | :18:45. | :18:50.
case and some people will be encouraged to use mediation. That is | :18:51. | :18:56.
perfectly true. We should be upfront about it. We do not have the money | :18:57. | :19:04.
to continue. But this woman's fight for custody isn't over and many | :19:05. | :19:07.
other remain anxious about having to argue their own case in the | :19:08. | :19:10.
complicated world of family law. Wales end their Six Nations campaign | :19:11. | :19:13.
on Saturday. Claire's here with news of who'll face the Scots. | :19:14. | :19:16.
Good evening. Warren Gatland has made six changes from the side that | :19:17. | :19:21.
lost to England. Front row Lions, Richard Hibbard and Adam Jones are | :19:22. | :19:24.
dropped to the bench and replaced by Ken Owens and Rhodri Jones. Adam | :19:25. | :19:28.
Jones is on the bench for the first time under Gatland but prop Gethin | :19:29. | :19:32.
Jenkins keeps his place for a record 105th cap. Dan Biggar is at fly | :19:33. | :19:35.
half, Mike Phillips at scrum half and Liam Williams at fullback. Luke | :19:36. | :19:39.
Charteris also returns from injury. Scotland have asked for the roof to | :19:40. | :19:43.
be shut on Saturday and despite not having any silverware to play for, | :19:44. | :19:46.
Wales are determined to end their campaign on a high. | :19:47. | :19:55.
The bus journey back on Sunday was pretty bad. We have dusted ourselves | :19:56. | :20:00.
off and we're excited to play in Cardiff. We love playing in the | :20:01. | :20:03.
Millennium Stadium, it is the best plates to play rugby in the world. | :20:04. | :20:10.
We were disappointed with the way we did that on Sunday. We have got a | :20:11. | :20:15.
game on Saturday to put it right. Initial figures seen by BBC Wales | :20:16. | :20:19.
suggest the number of us joining sports clubs will rise again this | :20:20. | :20:23.
year. A record 500,000 people became members in both 2012 and 2013. But | :20:24. | :20:27.
some sports are struggling and there are warnings tonight that wider | :20:28. | :20:29.
sports participation isn't growing quickly enough. Our sports news | :20:30. | :20:40.
correspondent, Gareth Lewis reports. Wales might not strike you as a | :20:41. | :20:43.
hotbed of table tennis players but the sport is picking up pace. It has | :20:44. | :20:47.
broken through the 3000 mark for club members this year with an | :20:48. | :20:50.
appeal across the generations. Here in Bridgend, this boy was introduced | :20:51. | :20:59.
to the sport by his grandfather. You get to go to a lot of different | :21:00. | :21:02.
countries and they have been to load of countries like Barcelona, France | :21:03. | :21:09.
and Ireland, Spain. In about ten years that is my long-term aim, I | :21:10. | :21:13.
wanted come in the Commonwealth Games. In the table tennis has a cut | :21:14. | :21:20.
in funding but here, they have been working hard to grow from the bottom | :21:21. | :21:28.
up. I do a primary school to try to get the membership up. I think we | :21:29. | :21:33.
have achieved that. We have been doing that for two or three years | :21:34. | :21:37.
now. It is very proactive in trying to develop youngsters. It is just | :21:38. | :21:41.
not table tennis, swim Wales has made a splash. They have 25,000 | :21:42. | :21:47.
members this year. Gymnastics has seen a 65% jump in female members to | :21:48. | :21:52.
almost 10,000. It is a flip side, sports night Adlington admit a big | :21:53. | :21:57.
challenge to turn casual participants to club members. Bowles | :21:58. | :22:01.
and snooker have concerns about attracting new members. The Assembly | :22:02. | :22:06.
's communities committee has introduced a report by -- into | :22:07. | :22:11.
sports participation. The numbers have remained static for a decade. | :22:12. | :22:16.
It was the Welsh Government to assess the cuts of councils cuts. It | :22:17. | :22:22.
has concerns over barriers in the way of women and non-white | :22:23. | :22:26.
communities. Launching the report at a gym in Cardiff, the committee | :22:27. | :22:28.
wants our activity levels to becoming heavyweight elliptical | :22:29. | :22:34.
issue. The participation levels, the report says it is too slow. Although | :22:35. | :22:37.
there has been some progress things need to change a bit quicker. That | :22:38. | :22:42.
is the basic message to the Welsh Government. Those receptive to the | :22:43. | :22:48.
message are getting involved in sport drawing in those less | :22:49. | :22:51.
convinced is a tougher shot to follow. | :22:52. | :22:52.
Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas retained his yellow jersey after | :22:53. | :22:55.
stage five of Paris-Nice, despite finishing in the pack today. He | :22:56. | :22:58.
finished 16th, two seconds behind the stage winner but he still leads | :22:59. | :23:02.
the overall race by three seconds with three days to go. | :23:03. | :23:09.
The red carpet is being rolled out for the first-ever St David Awards. | :23:10. | :23:13.
The honours recognise people from all walks of life who've made a | :23:14. | :23:16.
difference to Wales, from community volunteers to scientists and | :23:17. | :23:18.
musicians. 24 finalists are in the running for | :23:19. | :23:22.
the awards and Carwyn Jones is at the ceremony for us this evening. | :23:23. | :23:27.
Thanks, Tomos. Welcome to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, | :23:28. | :23:31.
where people have already started to take their seats for the main event | :23:32. | :23:36.
in the auditorium behind me. The St David Awards are effectively Wales' | :23:37. | :23:39.
very own honours system. There are nine categories including bravery, | :23:40. | :23:45.
sport, culture and innovation. The 24 finalists come from all walks of | :23:46. | :23:50.
life and from all corners of Wales. But what they have in common is that | :23:51. | :23:54.
they've proved an inspiration and their achievements made a real | :23:55. | :23:58.
difference to Welsh life. I am joined by two finalists, but through | :23:59. | :24:05.
three and 27. You are a cancer survivor and you have dedicated your | :24:06. | :24:12.
life to raising funds. -- Lara Cowpe and Tim Rhys Davies. I found out | :24:13. | :24:20.
about teenage Cancer trust and I had never thought about teenagers and | :24:21. | :24:23.
young adults having comes and I have had it myself. I wanted to use my | :24:24. | :24:28.
story to raise money for the cause and for the work they do. What would | :24:29. | :24:35.
it mean to you if you were to win an award? It'd be a great honour and | :24:36. | :24:41.
it's be a great achievement not just some eBay is for the people who have | :24:42. | :24:44.
supported me, my family and friends. -- not just for me but for | :24:45. | :24:54.
the people. Good luck tonight. I am joined by a man who needs very | :24:55. | :25:00.
little introduction. You are an MBE, honours are something you were used | :25:01. | :25:05.
to. You don't get used to them! I was the heat to be given an MBE last | :25:06. | :25:11.
autumn. This is special. It was voted for by the people in Wales and | :25:12. | :25:16.
the fact that it is a Welsh award. It is on the ring people from every | :25:17. | :25:20.
aspect of Welsh life. I feel honoured to be standing here. | :25:21. | :25:27.
Including arts and culture. Indeed, I believe passionately in our | :25:28. | :25:30.
culture. It is an important thing in Welsh life. We had a land of poets | :25:31. | :25:36.
and singers. I am glad the government is honouring all aspects | :25:37. | :25:41.
of Welsh life. Thank you both for joining me. Congratulations and well | :25:42. | :25:49.
done. We will bring you details of all the winners tonight at our ten | :25:50. | :25:55.
20 5pm bulletin. Carwyn Jones, thank you very much for joining us | :25:56. | :26:02.
tonight. Time now for the weather forecast | :26:03. | :26:04.
with Derek. Most of Wales saw the sun today but | :26:05. | :26:10.
not everywhere. Some places remained foggy, especially on the coast with | :26:11. | :26:13.
a big difference in temperature. 15C in sunny Tredegar but only six | :26:14. | :26:17.
dgrees in Rhyl. And there's more fog to come tonight and tomorrow morning | :26:18. | :26:20.
with a Met Office warning in force. The fog dense in places with further | :26:21. | :26:24.
travel disruption. So a fine and clear start for most of the country | :26:25. | :26:28.
this evening but mist and fog patches will form again overnight. | :26:29. | :26:31.
Turning cold again too. Close to freezing with a frost where the sky | :26:32. | :26:34.
remains clear. Tomorrow's chart shows a ridge of high pressure | :26:35. | :26:39.
across southern Britain. Mist and fog patches will be a hazard if | :26:40. | :26:43.
you're travelling. The fog dense in places. However, some places will be | :26:44. | :26:46.
fog free and wake-up to sunshine especially on high ground. During | :26:47. | :26:49.
the day, the mist and fog will slowly lift. It will brighten-up. | :26:50. | :26:52.
The best of the sunshine in the east. Parts of the south and west | :26:53. | :26:56.
grey and misty on some coasts. Top temperature around 14 Celsius. Much | :26:57. | :26:59.
cooler on the coast. 8C on Gower with a westerly breeze. In Wrexham | :27:00. | :27:03.
tomorrow, mist and fog will lift leaving a bright afternoon. A high | :27:04. | :27:06.
of 13 degrees in Overton. Tomorrow night, dry and less cold and with a | :27:07. | :27:10.
bit more breeze and cloud cover fog will be less of a problem. Into the | :27:11. | :27:14.
weekend, Saturday is dry with a noticeable breeze. The cloud | :27:15. | :27:20.
breaking with some sunshine. A nice day in Cardiff for the rugby and | :27:21. | :27:24.
fairly mild. More dry weather on Sunday too with a breeze. The best | :27:25. | :27:29.
of the sunshine in the south east and the Marches. Temps 10C in | :27:30. | :27:33.
Bangor. 14 in Monmouth. More dry weather on Monday but we may see | :27:34. | :27:38.
some rain later in the week. We'll have an update for you at | :27:39. | :27:42.
8:00pm and again after the BBC News at ten. | :27:43. | :27:43. |
