Good evening. The Welsh-language broadcaster S4C is to move its | :00:16. | :00:19.
headquarters from Cardiff to Carmarthen. They say it will spread | :00:20. | :00:24.
economic, cultural and linguistic benefits to more communities. The | :00:25. | :00:28.
channel hopes to be in new premises by 2018. More from our Welsh Affairs | :00:29. | :00:31.
Editor Vaughan Roderick. Cardiff has been S4C's bays since | :00:32. | :00:47.
the channel began broadcasting in 1980. The nation's capital was the | :00:48. | :00:50.
right home for a national service, it was argued, and partly because of | :00:51. | :00:59.
S4C's presence, Cardiff has had a burgeoning broadcasting sector. The | :01:00. | :01:05.
challenge for the authority has been to decide which of the two proposals | :01:06. | :01:09.
was the most beneficial for the future of the service. More than | :01:10. | :01:14.
three decades on, with its budget cut and its audiences in decline, | :01:15. | :01:18.
channel bosses have decided it is time to move on. Carmarthen's | :01:19. | :01:24.
presentation and business plan was extremely exciting, it was | :01:25. | :01:30.
visionary. It is a vision I hope will provide a springboard for | :01:31. | :01:38.
linguistic, economic and a cultural renewal in Carmarthenshire. From | :01:39. | :01:45.
2018, this will be S4C's new home. A brand-new building built in | :01:46. | :01:50.
partnership with Trinity St David's University. The university hopes it | :01:51. | :01:56.
will mean around 150 new jobs for Carmarthenshire. I have no doubt | :01:57. | :02:02.
this historic decision will have a major influence not only in | :02:03. | :02:07.
clustering in the industry but for developing new initiatives that will | :02:08. | :02:10.
have economic impacts, it linguistic impact and a cultural impact for | :02:11. | :02:17.
Wales. But Carmarthen's win his can of an's lost. S4C plans to maintain | :02:18. | :02:22.
a presence there as well as in Cardiff but it is hoped the new | :02:23. | :02:26.
headquarters will help the channel reconnect to its audience. | :02:27. | :02:29.
Meanwhile, the ITV Wales studios at Culverhouse Cross near Cardiff are | :02:30. | :02:33.
to be demolished to make way for more than 240 homes. Plans to | :02:34. | :02:37.
redevelop the site have been approved by Vale of Glamorgan | :02:38. | :02:39.
councillors. ITV wants to relocate 100 staff to Cardiff Bay by June. | :02:40. | :02:44.
Two leisure centres in Denbighshire will remain closed after the council | :02:45. | :02:48.
said it couldn't afford to run them. The Sun Centre in Rhyl and the Nova | :02:49. | :02:52.
Centre in Prestatyn shut earlier this year, when Clwyd Leisure, the | :02:53. | :02:55.
trust running them, saw its funding from the council cut. | :02:56. | :03:00.
Farmers in Wales say they are worried that supermarket promotions | :03:01. | :03:04.
on milk will soon leave them out of pocket. Retailers have been slashing | :03:05. | :03:09.
the price of milk in a battle for customers but they insist the price | :03:10. | :03:13.
at the farm gate won't go down. Abigail Neal has more. | :03:14. | :03:23.
Dairy cows for more than a quarter of farm output in Wales. Farmers are | :03:24. | :03:27.
worried their product is being devalued. We are getting very | :03:28. | :03:32.
concerned about the tactics they are using. They are using milk to drive | :03:33. | :03:38.
the price of it down just to get people into the supermarket so they | :03:39. | :03:43.
can spend money elsewhere. Unfortunately for farmers, milk is | :03:44. | :03:46.
one of those products we as shoppers tend to take note of. Because we use | :03:47. | :03:51.
it every week, we noticed a drop in the price and we shot in the stores | :03:52. | :03:55.
that offer the greatest discount. This latest cut in the price of milk | :03:56. | :04:00.
is not because of a change in the cost of production or because of | :04:01. | :04:04.
supply and demand, it is a retail war, you are and simple. It is a | :04:05. | :04:12.
good thing. I drink a lot of milk. It is ridiculously cheap. I would | :04:13. | :04:17.
built -- pay more for milk if it was OK for Wales. It was Tesco's | :04:18. | :04:27.
decision to match the ?1 price last week that triggered a supermarket | :04:28. | :04:32.
price war. Within days, Sainsbury's and Waitrose followed suit. And then | :04:33. | :04:37.
Morrison is that the auntie by cutting their brand milk to 60 -- | :04:38. | :04:45.
96p. Retailers say they will take less of a profit and milk producers | :04:46. | :04:53.
will not be a fair bit -- affected. The processing factory will get 9p, | :04:54. | :04:58.
the farm at 73p with the smaller margin going to the supermarkets, | :04:59. | :05:02.
but some doubt they will stick to this. Retailers are not famed for | :05:03. | :05:06.
their desire to give the margin voluntarily. Usually one would | :05:07. | :05:10.
assume that if this goes on to much longer, the retailers will be | :05:11. | :05:14.
looking for someone else to share the pain. With only two other people | :05:15. | :05:20.
in the chain, the processes and the farmers. Farmers are quick to vent | :05:21. | :05:28.
their frustration. After widespread demonstrations in 2012, the milk | :05:29. | :05:32.
price has been rising. If this latest move means it starts to fall | :05:33. | :05:35.
again, supermarkets know they could be in for more protests. | :05:36. | :05:39.
Welsh businesses are being given a helping hand to export to China | :05:40. | :05:42.
after a new organisation was set up to promote links between the two | :05:43. | :05:46.
countries. The China-Britain Business Council will work with the | :05:47. | :05:49.
South Wales Chamber of Commerce in Newport to tap into the potentially | :05:50. | :05:53.
huge market. Last year, Welsh exports to China were worth close to | :05:54. | :06:00.
?300 million. Every company needs to understand | :06:01. | :06:04.
what is happening in China, even if you are not going to export there. | :06:05. | :06:08.
It is the second largest economy in the world. It will soon be the | :06:09. | :06:13.
first, so companies need to understand what is happening. The | :06:14. | :06:19.
focus of Welsh businesses has largely been Europe, it expanded to | :06:20. | :06:22.
the United States and latterly to the Middle East. South-east Asia and | :06:23. | :06:27.
China is the next big opportunity. Rugby, and on the eve of the senior | :06:28. | :06:30.
teams' meeting at the Millennium Stadium, Wales' Under 20s have ended | :06:31. | :06:33.
their Six Nations campaign with a big win over Scotland. In Colwyn Bay | :06:34. | :06:38.
tonight, Wales won 43-15. They've finished the championship with three | :06:39. | :06:42.
wins and two defeats. There was also one result in the Pro | :06:43. | :06:48.
12 tonight. The Scarlets were in Belfast to face Ulster but they lost | :06:49. | :06:52.
by 26-13. Scrum-half Gareth Davies scored the Scarlets' only try in the | :06:53. | :06:57.
first half. Some cycling news, and Geraint | :06:58. | :07:00.
Thomas has lost the lead in the Paris-Nice road race. He finished | :07:01. | :07:04.
fourth in today's stage and is now eight seconds behind the leader. The | :07:05. | :07:10.
race finishes on Sunday. It was a big day for the singer | :07:11. | :07:13.
Katherine Jenkins, who collected her OBE from Prince Charles at | :07:14. | :07:17.
Buckingham Palace. The 33-year-old soprano from Neath was given the | :07:18. | :07:21.
honour for services to music and her charity work. | :07:22. | :07:26.
It looks like being a dry weekend for many of us. Derek, is here with | :07:27. | :07:28.
the full forecast. Plenty of dry weather to come this | :07:29. | :07:39.
weekend. It has been a trying week thanks to high pressure, some | :07:40. | :07:44.
sunshine and fog. Not expecting too much in the way of this weekend | :07:45. | :07:47.
because we are in for more of a breeze, but plenty of Welsh -- | :07:48. | :07:54.
weather. It is looking drive for the rest of the night. Most of the fog | :07:55. | :07:59.
confined to the higher ground and mountings. We should escape a frost | :08:00. | :08:05.
tonight. Temperatures staying well above freezing, no long -- lower | :08:06. | :08:11.
than five Celsius. High pressure is centred over the Atlantic tomorrow. | :08:12. | :08:16.
More isobars, you will notice, across the UK, which does mean | :08:17. | :08:22.
slightly stronger winds. It should be a dry morning for us in Wales. | :08:23. | :08:27.
There will be some low cloud and missed first thing but that cloud | :08:28. | :08:30.
will start to break. Some sunshine in Pembrokeshire. Across the rest of | :08:31. | :08:36.
the UK, it is going to be a breezy day. Strong winds for Scotland and | :08:37. | :08:42.
North East England. Most of the rain in the north and west of Scotland. | :08:43. | :08:47.
Otherwise dry with a mixture of cloud and sunshine. A top | :08:48. | :08:53.
temperature in London of 16 Celsius. That will feel pleasantly warm. It | :08:54. | :08:58.
should be a nice afternoon close to home. Some good spells of sunshine. | :08:59. | :09:03.
A little bit more in the way of cloud for Snowdonia. It is looking | :09:04. | :09:16.
like being a livery after noon in Cardiff tomorrow for the rugby. Lots | :09:17. | :09:22.
of rugby -- sunshine. Tomorrow evening generally dry and clear and | :09:23. | :09:26.
then overnight cloud will start to increase. A few spots of drizzle in | :09:27. | :09:31.
the north and north-west. Sunday, plenty of cloud. Otherwise dry and | :09:32. | :09:39.
sunshine in Monmouthshire. More dry weather for the start of next week | :09:40. | :09:43.
but eventually we will see some rain and stronger winds by the end of the | :09:44. | :09:45.
week. And that is Wales Today. Our first | :09:46. | :09:51.
bulletin of the weekend is just after midday tomorrow. From all of | :09:52. | :09:54.
us here, have a good weekend. Good night. | :09:55. | :09:56. |
