Welcome to Wales Today our top story: 600 jobs go in Newport. | :00:00. | :00:16.
There's anger at this bakery. Why couldn't they find new customers | :00:17. | :00:20.
after losing M's business? Absolutely gutted, that is all I can | :00:21. | :00:24.
say. Do soldiers wait longer for treatment in Wales than elsewhere in | :00:25. | :00:28.
the UK? The war of words intensifies. | :00:29. | :00:32.
Why we need this lot, particularly the girls, to take up engineering to | :00:33. | :00:37.
drive our economy. Your house may be getting a water meter installed, if | :00:38. | :00:43.
it hasn't already got one. In tonight's sport: the fans' faces | :00:44. | :00:46.
say it all. With only five games left, is Cardiff City's time in the | :00:47. | :00:59.
Premier League almost up? Good evening. Workers and unions | :01:00. | :01:07.
have reacted angrily to the news that 640 jobs are to go after a | :01:08. | :01:11.
bakery in Newport announced it's to close. Local politicians have | :01:12. | :01:14.
described the move by Avana as utterly devastating and an act of | :01:15. | :01:23.
ingratitude. The company said in February jobs were under threat, | :01:24. | :01:26.
after it lost a major Marks and Spencer contract. Jordan Davies | :01:27. | :01:33.
reports. Andrew has been working at the Avana | :01:34. | :01:38.
bakery in Newport for 22 years. Today he was told it is going to | :01:39. | :01:44.
close. What do you think you will do now? I will be 60 this year. Always | :01:45. | :01:50.
going to employ me? That is the thing. I view full you won't find | :01:51. | :01:58.
work? Yes. I live at in the valleys and there is nothing up there. It is | :01:59. | :02:04.
a kick in the teeth really. As workers left today, they said they | :02:05. | :02:08.
were angry but not surprised. Two months ago the bakery said many of | :02:09. | :02:14.
the jobs here were under threat. They had lost a multi-million pound | :02:15. | :02:18.
Marks Spencer K contract that accounted for 80% of its work. The | :02:19. | :02:24.
bakery 's owners began a period of consultation with staff and looked | :02:25. | :02:30.
for new customers. Now, as that period comes to an end, they have | :02:31. | :02:34.
announced the site is to shut. But union officials say they understand | :02:35. | :02:39.
the bakery is still in talks with a potential big customer. The company | :02:40. | :02:44.
is still talking to a big customer. We are hopeful that they will do | :02:45. | :02:47.
business with Avana but at this moment in time, the thing is | :02:48. | :02:51.
forthcoming and the company has made the decision to make the | :02:52. | :02:56.
announcement. I phoned the parent company today to see if they would | :02:57. | :02:59.
put anyone up for interview. They said no one would be available to | :03:00. | :03:03.
speak that sent a statement saying they fully explored all the options | :03:04. | :03:08.
available but have not been able to find a way to keep the site viable. | :03:09. | :03:13.
Avana has been making cakes for decades. Today's news was described | :03:14. | :03:19.
in the local MP is an act of ingratitude following years of fine | :03:20. | :03:27.
service. Avana have not been able to replace the massive M contract it | :03:28. | :03:30.
relied on for years. The company that owns this bakery now says it | :03:31. | :03:36.
will try and minimise the amount of compulsory redundancies before this | :03:37. | :03:41.
site closes for good this summer. Do soldiers wait longer for treatment | :03:42. | :03:45.
in Wales than elsewhere in the UK? The Welsh Government has questioned | :03:46. | :03:48.
the accuracy of the record of a meeting, in which the most senior | :03:49. | :03:52.
doctor in the armed forces raised concerns about NHS waiting times for | :03:53. | :03:55.
injured soldiers in Wales. The Ministry of Defence says the minutes | :03:56. | :03:58.
were agreed by everyone and all it wants to do is ensure consistent | :03:59. | :04:01.
treatment for soldiers across the UK. Here's our Political Editor Nick | :04:02. | :04:15.
Servini. Soldiers returning from Afghanistan | :04:16. | :04:18.
marched through the streets of Haverfordwest. Many of course come | :04:19. | :04:22.
back injured and it is their treatment in the Welsh NHS which is | :04:23. | :04:25.
at the centre of a high-profile political battle. At its heart is | :04:26. | :04:30.
what was or was not said at a routine meeting of the UK and Welsh | :04:31. | :04:34.
Government officials on care for Armed Forces personnel. A partial | :04:35. | :04:38.
account of the meeting has been released. In it, the Armed Forces | :04:39. | :04:43.
most senior medical officer says there were personnel facing longer | :04:44. | :04:48.
waiting times in Wales than elsewhere. He also noted the example | :04:49. | :04:55.
of patients being treated quicker thanks to referrals across borders. | :04:56. | :04:57.
The Welsh Government claims the minutes released are not accurate | :04:58. | :05:02.
and it is all part of a Conservative lead political campaign to discredit | :05:03. | :05:08.
Labour 's handling of the NHS. What happened is there was a meeting in | :05:09. | :05:14.
London. Minutes were then leaked to the press by the Ministry of defence | :05:15. | :05:18.
is a way of getting back at us. We find that is professional and | :05:19. | :05:22.
unacceptable and it means that they are trying to politicise something | :05:23. | :05:28.
on a story that was the never there. One Labour MP agrees. What is | :05:29. | :05:35.
interesting is that no minister has got their fingerprints on this. It | :05:36. | :05:39.
is sources close to a senior military official, there is nobody | :05:40. | :05:44.
willing to stand up and say, I think this is what is happening. I think | :05:45. | :05:52.
this is a ministry of dirty tricks. The Defence Secretary Philip Hammond | :05:53. | :05:55.
says he will support the Surgeon General if he has concerns about | :05:56. | :05:59.
waiting times in Wales. The Conservatives say action needs to be | :06:00. | :06:04.
taken. It is not good enough for my constituents, it is certainly not | :06:05. | :06:07.
good enough for the Army, but over and above all, it undermines the | :06:08. | :06:13.
military. They have the right to deserve prompt and efficient | :06:14. | :06:16.
treatment, amongst the best in the world. That is sadly not happening | :06:17. | :06:20.
in Wales. It is a scandal. The state of the NHS is always an emotive | :06:21. | :06:26.
subject. The treatment of soldiers makes it even more so. Nick Servini | :06:27. | :06:30.
joins us now. So, Nick, is the Welsh Government right to say it's | :06:31. | :06:33.
politically motivated and there's no foundation to these claims? | :06:34. | :06:36.
It is certainly true to say that it is being used by their political | :06:37. | :06:43.
opponents. I guess the question is, pardon the pun, whether the Welsh | :06:44. | :06:45.
Government is giving them the ammunition. I think the Welsh | :06:46. | :06:49.
Government to have a point when they say there are no concrete examples | :06:50. | :06:54.
of Welsh soldiers who have been injured in service overseas waiting | :06:55. | :06:58.
for treatment. And they also have a point when they say this is just one | :06:59. | :07:01.
extract of what was presumably a long and detailed meeting. But at | :07:02. | :07:09.
the same time, the Ministry of Defence officials say the minute was | :07:10. | :07:12.
agreed by everyone there and they also make the point that the UK | :07:13. | :07:22.
Government was responding to a Freedom of information request. | :07:23. | :07:26.
There does appear to be a bit of a pattern. I am sure that many people | :07:27. | :07:31.
will be aware that we are talking about disputes in terms of health | :07:32. | :07:35.
but also in terms of transport, all sorts of projects, and there seems | :07:36. | :07:40.
to be a reluctance or an inability to resolve many issues to be hanged | :07:41. | :07:47.
the scenes. -- behind the scenes. The widow of a man, who died in the | :07:48. | :07:51.
Hillsborough disaster, has told an inquest jury how he dreamt of being | :07:52. | :07:54.
the best daddy ever. 25-year-old Steven Brown, from Holt, near | :07:55. | :07:57.
Wrexham, died when his wife was six months pregnant with their daughter. | :07:58. | :08:02.
Sarah Brown, on the left, told the hearing in Warrington of the void he | :08:03. | :08:05.
had left in their lives. A council officer has told a court | :08:06. | :08:09.
he wanted the Gleision mine, where four men died in September 2011, | :08:10. | :08:13.
closed down. Alan Rees who works at Neath Port Talbot Council says he | :08:14. | :08:16.
reported concerns twice in 2009 and March 2011 and enforcement action | :08:17. | :08:19.
was considered. Manager Malcolm Fyfield denies manslaughter through | :08:20. | :08:21.
gross negligence, while the mine's operators deny corporate | :08:22. | :08:28.
manslaughter. The First Minister has visited Murco | :08:29. | :08:31.
Oil refinery in Milford Haven to discuss options for keeping hundreds | :08:32. | :08:35.
of jobs at the site. The oil refinery faces closure with the | :08:36. | :08:38.
threat of up to 400 job losses after talks broke down with a potential | :08:39. | :08:42.
buyer. The owners, Murphy Oil, entered into consultation with staff | :08:43. | :08:45.
last week after a private equity firm pulled out of a possible | :08:46. | :08:47.
buyout. Work has begun in St Asaph to build | :08:48. | :08:51.
temporary flood barriers that can be put in place quickly when there is a | :08:52. | :08:55.
risk of flooding. One person died and 400 homes were evacuated, when | :08:56. | :08:59.
the River Elwy burst its banks there two years ago. | :09:00. | :09:01.
Our economy could suffer unless we produce more engineers. The Royal | :09:02. | :09:07.
Academy of Engineers says, we need at least an extra 2,500 more | :09:08. | :09:10.
graduates for so-called STEM subjects every year. Today, an event | :09:11. | :09:14.
has been held in Newport to try and encourage children to take up | :09:15. | :09:17.
subjects like science and maths. Here's our education Correspondent, | :09:18. | :09:26.
Arwyn Jones. Blink and you will miss it. These | :09:27. | :09:30.
drag racing cars have been designed and built by primary school children | :09:31. | :09:33.
across South Wales. Secondary schools have had challenges set to | :09:34. | :09:38.
them by local businesses. A have all had to use STEM subjects to solve | :09:39. | :09:46.
problems. They say the education of today is the economy of tomorrow. | :09:47. | :09:52.
Judging by today's competitors, the STEM subjects in Wales are in pretty | :09:53. | :09:55.
safe hands. At the challenges to turn the enthusiasm of an NZ like | :09:56. | :10:04.
this into bums on seats. There is a big shortage of girls studying these | :10:05. | :10:08.
courses. Some schools find it easier than | :10:09. | :10:17.
others. To -- I have a bit of an idea about what is behind it. | :10:18. | :10:20.
I just love hands-on projects. I think that is what engineering is | :10:21. | :10:25.
all about. People might say, I will try medicine, law, but it will not | :10:26. | :10:31.
say they will try this because it is male dominated. She knows what it is | :10:32. | :10:37.
like to break into a profession. Last year Jessica Jones became the | :10:38. | :10:41.
first woman to win the UK engineer of the year competition. She could | :10:42. | :10:45.
have gone down a very different path. | :10:46. | :10:50.
When I was 15, I saw the careers adviser and said I wanted to be a | :10:51. | :10:53.
software engineer and they told me to go and be a journalist. I think | :10:54. | :10:58.
it was just that they did not have that knowledge of what engineering | :10:59. | :11:02.
was like and they did not think I would not want to be in dirty | :11:03. | :11:05.
overalls. We need better careers advice. We need more of these | :11:06. | :11:10.
youngsters to get into STEM subjects. | :11:11. | :11:12.
Many of our engineers are retiring. Coupled with an increase in demand, | :11:13. | :11:23.
we need more graduates every year. It could be very serious. We are in | :11:24. | :11:27.
this global market now for skills. And with increasing global | :11:28. | :11:36.
manufacturing supply chains. It is a very real threat to the UK economy. | :11:37. | :11:41.
Our universities are stepping up to the mark. At Swansea, the new campus | :11:42. | :11:46.
is focused largely on engineering. He saw that the demand was there. | :11:47. | :11:52.
Demand for engineers held up through the recession. We would expect to | :11:53. | :11:59.
see a huge increase in demand. There is massive opportunities for young | :12:00. | :12:05.
people now. We clearly need to ensure a healthy supply of | :12:06. | :12:08.
engineering graduates and if we can get that right, it really could help | :12:09. | :12:13.
our economy to take off. Much more to come before 7pm. | :12:14. | :12:22.
A hammering, is that the e-mail in the Coffin for Cardiff City? The | :12:23. | :12:29.
manager says they need a miracle now -- the mailing the Coffin. | :12:30. | :12:32.
And the Welsh film director who wowed audiences around the world | :12:33. | :12:37.
with his movie The Raid returns with the sequel. | :12:38. | :12:42.
Your home could get a water meter, if you haven't already got one, | :12:43. | :12:45.
under Welsh Government plans. On average we use 50% more water per | :12:46. | :12:49.
person than we did 25 years ago and as the population grows, supplies | :12:50. | :12:52.
are under increasing pressure. Amid concerns about climate change, the | :12:53. | :12:54.
Government says, it's important to manage our water for the future. | :12:55. | :13:04.
Cemlyn Davies reports. It is one thing we seem to have | :13:05. | :13:09.
plenty of in this country. But the Welsh Government Cesar water must be | :13:10. | :13:15.
carefully managed so our long-term domestic needs can be met. And that | :13:16. | :13:18.
is why the natural resources Minister has launched a consultation | :13:19. | :13:23.
on how best to manage Wales is water. Alun Davies unveiled the | :13:24. | :13:29.
plans at a school in Llanelli. It already has its own sustainable | :13:30. | :13:31.
water management scheme to reduce the risk of flooding. We have all | :13:32. | :13:36.
seen the impact of flooding and high rainfall over the last few weeks and | :13:37. | :13:42.
months. We know this will happen more in the future than it has | :13:43. | :13:46.
happened in the past. That means we need to be smarter in the way we | :13:47. | :13:53.
manage water. This is the governments vision, the | :13:54. | :13:59.
playground at this school has been transformed to accommodate a | :14:00. | :14:02.
specially designed drainage system which gathers and absorbs water, | :14:03. | :14:07.
preventing it from simply running off the schoolyard and the sewer | :14:08. | :14:11.
network. We have an underground reservoir in | :14:12. | :14:16.
the car parked and various other small reservoirs that are holding | :14:17. | :14:22.
water. So far, we have managed to reduce the amount of water to 5000 | :14:23. | :14:28.
cubic metres already from 10,000. At the heart of the government 's water | :14:29. | :14:32.
strategy is a proposal to have a meter in every home. | :14:33. | :14:39.
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water says it has some 800,000 unmetered customers. | :14:40. | :14:41.
Like all houses built in the last 14 years, this couple 's home does have | :14:42. | :14:49.
a water meter. I think you are a bit more conscious about using water. | :14:50. | :14:53.
You do not leave the tap running, you switch it off. And in terms of | :14:54. | :14:57.
your bills, do you find you are spending less? I think so, yes. | :14:58. | :15:02.
The committee says it was ensure those on lowering cows would not | :15:03. | :15:05.
face higher bills as it tries to encourage us not to waste our most | :15:06. | :15:11.
valuable resource -- lower incomes. The judge has begun summing up in | :15:12. | :15:15.
the trial of the former shadow Welsh Secretary Nigel Evans. Earlier the | :15:16. | :15:18.
jury heard the Swansea born MPs defence team deliver its closing | :15:19. | :15:21.
argument. Mr Evans denies nine charges including rape and sexual | :15:22. | :15:24.
assault. Matthew Richards is at Preston law courts. What were the | :15:25. | :15:35.
jury told today? Nigel Evans 's defence barrister | :15:36. | :15:39.
started off the day by saying he felt there were inconsistencies in | :15:40. | :15:42.
some of the testimonies from the alleged it -- victims. There are | :15:43. | :15:46.
seven men and most of them knew Nigel Evans. The allegation stretch | :15:47. | :15:53.
over a period of ten years. Regarding the rape allegation, the | :15:54. | :15:59.
defence said the man picking that allegation had consensual relations | :16:00. | :16:03.
with Nigel Evans and had regretted it afterwards. He also said he had | :16:04. | :16:08.
changed his story between talking to the police and giving evidence in | :16:09. | :16:13.
court. He said as far as the other indecent assaults were concerned, | :16:14. | :16:16.
these men were not victims of crime, they were victims of | :16:17. | :16:21.
overfamiliarity. The judge started his summing up and he will continue | :16:22. | :16:24.
the bulk of that tomorrow. It's one of the world's biggest | :16:25. | :16:27.
economies, but Wales is behind other parts of the UK in trading with | :16:28. | :16:30.
Brazil. The Brazilian ambassador was visiting Cardiff to encourage | :16:31. | :16:33.
companies here to do business with his country, which is hosting the | :16:34. | :16:36.
World Cup this summer. Here's our business correspondent, Brian | :16:37. | :16:43.
Meechan. A population of over 200 million and | :16:44. | :16:48.
a growing economy, Brazil is an increasingly important player on the | :16:49. | :16:52.
world stage. There was more than ?500 million British trade over the | :16:53. | :16:57.
recent three-month period but only 18 million of that came from Wales. | :16:58. | :17:00.
It is a market that companies are trying to break into. This company | :17:01. | :17:04.
Manufacturer 's products including wallets that keep medicines call. | :17:05. | :17:10.
They have two evaluate the product, it has to fit into a specific class | :17:11. | :17:16.
of medical products, which range between up to four years for | :17:17. | :17:22.
registration, but luckily we fit into the lower category. | :17:23. | :17:24.
It has only taken about eight months. Exporting to Brazil can be | :17:25. | :17:29.
challenging, according to this business, which sells beer across | :17:30. | :17:37.
the world. But it is worth pursuing. The economy has been growing | :17:38. | :17:40.
significantly over the last 15 years and what that has created is a | :17:41. | :17:47.
very... Emerging and aspirational middle-class who are increasingly | :17:48. | :17:51.
looking for premium imported brands. The Brazilian ambassador | :17:52. | :17:55.
came to the Cardiff business club to talk about the opportunities | :17:56. | :18:00.
available. Some firms mentioned language and time zones as | :18:01. | :18:02.
difficulties with entering the market. The ambassador told us that | :18:03. | :18:08.
the doors are open for business. Energy consumption is growing | :18:09. | :18:14.
significantly. Education requirements are very big. Health, | :18:15. | :18:16.
there is a big health programme in Brazil. An enormous opportunity for | :18:17. | :18:21.
those to invest. And other sectors that can be very attractive as well. | :18:22. | :18:27.
Brazil is synonymous with football and December it hosts the World Cup. | :18:28. | :18:31.
A further chance for businesses to make inroads into the market. | :18:32. | :18:35.
Increasing exports to emerging economies like Brazil could | :18:36. | :18:38.
potentially have a major impact on Wales, more jobs and prospective | :18:39. | :18:41.
being up for grabs. Sport in a minute first let me tell | :18:42. | :18:47.
you about tomorrow's programme. Offa's Dyke stretches from Chepstow | :18:48. | :18:50.
to Prestatyn - the one time boundary between Wales and the Saxon kingdom | :18:51. | :18:54.
of Mercia. But now there's evidence it may be 200 years older than | :18:55. | :18:57.
previously thought and may not have been built by King Offa at all. More | :18:58. | :19:00.
tomorrow at 6:30pm. Back to tonight and Claire with the | :19:01. | :19:05.
sport. Good evening. Cardiff City's manager and captain | :19:06. | :19:09.
admit they now need a miracle to avoid relegation from the Premier | :19:10. | :19:12.
League. Have a look at how things stand. The 3-0 defeat to Crystal | :19:13. | :19:16.
Palace leaves them in deep trouble - six points from safety. | :19:17. | :19:22.
Swansea City are still not out of danger. Their 1-0 defeat to Hull | :19:23. | :19:28.
leaves them only six points clear of the drop. And worth noting Cardiff | :19:29. | :19:31.
will go bottom tonight, if Sunderland get any points at | :19:32. | :19:33.
Tottenham. There are five games left. | :19:34. | :19:36.
I'm now joined by our football correspondent, Rob Phillips. Let's | :19:37. | :19:40.
start with Cardiff. They are talking about miracles. You watched them | :19:41. | :19:45.
Saturday. Is it all over? You would have to say not just the | :19:46. | :19:49.
result but the actual performance on Saturday was so bad that a miracle | :19:50. | :19:52.
is probably definitely what they need. I do not think a manager has | :19:53. | :19:58.
ever spoken a truer word. 15 points to be played for but they will not | :19:59. | :20:01.
give up but at the end, I was running out of words to describe | :20:02. | :20:05.
just how bad it was. Crystal Palace looked just more organised. Cardiff | :20:06. | :20:13.
looked almost shambolic. When the second goal went in, the writing was | :20:14. | :20:16.
on the wall and maybe that was the mailing the Coffin. We can have a | :20:17. | :20:22.
look at the running. Five games left. They could go to an tonight | :20:23. | :20:27.
without playing. Yes, just when you think things cannot go any worse. | :20:28. | :20:31.
Southampton away on Saturday is really difficult. | :20:32. | :20:34.
They have Stoke city and Chelsea at home. Maybe Cardiff can take it to | :20:35. | :20:43.
the last game, Chelsea may be going for the Premier league title? I | :20:44. | :20:46.
think the key will be the away games against Newcastle and Sunderland. | :20:47. | :20:52.
But it really looks eight ask beyond then given what they showed on | :20:53. | :20:56.
Saturday. Let's have a look at Swansea City as well. Many people | :20:57. | :20:58.
thought that they would be definitely safe by now but the | :20:59. | :21:03.
pressure is definitely on. They could have done without the defeat | :21:04. | :21:07.
on the weekend but I still think that 33 points may even now be | :21:08. | :21:10.
enough to keep them up. I think one more win will definitely do it. You | :21:11. | :21:14.
have to say that Swansea have a very small goal difference which is much | :21:15. | :21:17.
better than any of those around them. The single figure goal | :21:18. | :21:21.
difference is almost worth another point to them. I think Swansea | :21:22. | :21:27.
City, it may be a squeak, but I think they will be fine. I expect | :21:28. | :21:32.
them to pick up more than enough points in the remaining games. Let's | :21:33. | :21:35.
have a look at their remaining fixtures. It is a big win on Sunday. | :21:36. | :21:39.
Chelsea. That is a worrying one. But | :21:40. | :21:45.
Newcastle away, they are in freefall at the moment. Aston Villa and | :21:46. | :21:49.
Southampton at home. You would expect Swansea to pick up something | :21:50. | :21:53.
in at least one of those games. I do not see it going to the last game | :21:54. | :21:57.
for Swansea City. But then again, there have been so many twists and | :21:58. | :22:02.
turns this season. We have run out of time but there is printable | :22:03. | :22:04.
football tonight. Yes, on Radio Wales. -- plenty more | :22:05. | :22:07.
foot all tonight. Just three months before the | :22:08. | :22:17.
Commonwealth Games, triathlete Helen Jenkins has made an impressive | :22:18. | :22:20.
return to top-flight racing. The former World Champion from Bridgend | :22:21. | :22:23.
finished third at the World Series event in Auckland. It was her first | :22:24. | :22:26.
major race since the London Olympics, where she was struggling | :22:27. | :22:29.
with an injury that went undiagnosed for a year. | :22:30. | :22:32.
I am so happy. I have been picking up the training gradually and I have | :22:33. | :22:37.
had such a great team around me. To be honest, I did not expect to get | :22:38. | :22:40.
on the podium but I am so happy to be here. | :22:41. | :22:44.
Nice to see her. Cricket and less than 13 overs were possible in | :22:45. | :22:50.
Glamorgan 's match against Surrey. They still managed to take a couple | :22:51. | :22:51.
of wickets. He's the Welsh film director making | :22:52. | :23:03.
waves in the world of action films. Gareth Evans from Hirwaun is about | :23:04. | :23:07.
to release a sequel to his critical and commercial success The Raid. | :23:08. | :23:11.
Filmed in Indonesia, the high speed stunts and inventive action helped | :23:12. | :23:14.
that film find an audience across the world. Sachin Krishnan reports. | :23:15. | :23:18.
My name is Gareth Evans and they make Indonesian people beat each | :23:19. | :23:22.
other up for a living. There is more to Gareth Evans than just that. The | :23:23. | :23:26.
director from Wales has been described as the best action | :23:27. | :23:31.
director currently working. The Raid II is the sequel to the film that | :23:32. | :23:35.
made his name. Despite many other offers, he said he was not tempted | :23:36. | :23:40.
to put the film on the back burner. I wanted to make this more than | :23:41. | :23:44.
anything else. It would have to be something ridiculously special | :23:45. | :23:49.
foreword to give up this one. Once we knew we could make this one, it | :23:50. | :23:52.
was the meeting I wanted to do. After struggling to make an impact | :23:53. | :23:57.
in the UK, his film-making career took off after a move to Indonesia, | :23:58. | :24:00.
where he has now settled with a family. | :24:01. | :24:05.
It is where my career took off. If I'm able to pop into different | :24:06. | :24:11.
countries and make films back and forth, I will be a happy man. The | :24:12. | :24:18.
Raid was a critical and commercial hit across the world. The | :24:19. | :24:20.
anticipation for this newest instalment was evident adding a | :24:21. | :24:24.
bratpack screenings in London. -- at a number of packed screenings. It is | :24:25. | :24:30.
such a different style, it stands out. | :24:31. | :24:33.
It is so different. The action itself is unique. It has these | :24:34. | :24:39.
little quirks to it. Despite the claim, it is still to | :24:40. | :24:44.
home that Gareth Evans often turns for advice. His love of film was | :24:45. | :24:49.
fostered watching films with his father. | :24:50. | :24:55.
Yes, he is very happy. Both my parents are very proud of me. Like | :24:56. | :24:59.
its predecessor, The Raid II will not be for everyone but it is | :25:00. | :25:05.
another example of a unique film making talent continuing to make his | :25:06. | :25:08.
mark. The perennial favourite, the | :25:09. | :25:10.
weather, starring Derek next tonight. What have you got for us? | :25:11. | :25:13.
Good news. I think we've seen the worst of the rain for a while. The | :25:14. | :25:19.
next few days are looking much drier. Some sunshine. Not that warm, | :25:20. | :25:25.
though with a cool breeze and a few chilly nights. The radar shows | :25:26. | :25:28.
today's rain moving north and east across the country. Some heavy rain | :25:29. | :25:31.
too clearing later in the afternoon. So brighter this evening but with | :25:32. | :25:34.
scattered heavy showers. Most places dry after midnight. Breezy, | :25:35. | :25:38.
especially on the coast and a colder night than recently. Temperatures in | :25:39. | :25:41.
Mid Wales dropping as low as three Celsius. Tomorrow's chart shows high | :25:42. | :25:45.
pressure over the Bay of Biscay. These fronts over the Atlantic will | :25:46. | :25:48.
bring rain to western Scotland late in the day. So here's the picture | :25:49. | :25:51.
for eight in the morning. Much better than today. Most of the | :25:52. | :25:55.
country dry with just the odd light shower. Breezy and feeling fresh, | :25:56. | :25:58.
especially on the coast. A brisk wind on Anglesey and the Lleyn | :25:59. | :26:01.
Peninsula. So better weather tomorrow with pressure rising. You | :26:02. | :26:04.
may catch a shower otherwise dry with broken cloud and sunny spells. | :26:05. | :26:07.
Temperatures nothing special. Ten to 12 Celsius and breezy but out of the | :26:08. | :26:11.
wind and in the sunshine it will feel pleasant. In Rhondda Cynon Taf, | :26:12. | :26:18.
dry tomorrow with a mixture of clouds and sunshine. A cool breeze | :26:19. | :26:22.
with a high of nine Celsius in Ferndale. In Denbighshire. Nicer | :26:23. | :26:26.
than today. Drier with sunny spells. Breezy on the coast and hills. A | :26:27. | :26:29.
fresh ten Celsius in Ruthin. Tomorrow evening dry. Staying dry | :26:30. | :26:33.
overnight. The wind easing with some low cloud forming. On Wednesday more | :26:34. | :26:36.
cloud than sunshine but mostly dry. Just one or two showers breaking | :26:37. | :26:40.
out. The wind lighter so feeling a bit milder. More dry weather on | :26:41. | :26:44.
Thursday as well but a weak front may bring a few spots of light rain, | :26:45. | :26:48.
mainly to the north. Friday dry. At the moment, most of Saturday should | :26:49. | :26:51.
be dry as well thanks to high pressure. So more dry than wet over | :26:52. | :26:54.
the next few days. Our picture tonight is from Richard | :26:55. | :26:57.
Walliker. Sunshine in Gwaenysgor near Rhyl. Thanks, Richard. Enjoy | :26:58. | :27:02.
the dry weather tomorrow. The headlines again from BBC: | :27:03. | :27:12.
journalist and presenter Peaches Geldof has died at the age of 25. | :27:13. | :27:17.
Kent police are treating her death is unexplained and sudden. The | :27:18. | :27:21.
athlete Oscar Pistorius has apologised to the family of his | :27:22. | :27:23.
girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, for killing her. Giving evidence for the | :27:24. | :27:27.
first time at his murder trial in South Africa, he broke down, saying, | :27:28. | :27:30.
he couldn't imagine the pain he had caused her family. He denies murder | :27:31. | :27:34.
and says he mistook her for an intruder. | :27:35. | :27:38.
I'll have an update for you at 8pm and again after the BBC News at Ten. | :27:39. | :27:42.
That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching. From all of us on the | :27:43. | :27:45.
programme, good evening. | :27:46. | :27:46. |
