Good evening. After nearly two years of bitter and

public argument - an eight year deal has been reached for a new European

Rugby Cup from next season. It's said it will make the four Welsh

regions an extra one million pounds a season - but it will be more

difficult to qualify for the tournament. Claire Summers reports.

It is the deal that Welsh rugby fans, the regions and those who run

the game have been poring over for two years. It all began when French

and English clubs announce their attention to leave the current

European cup and setup their own tournament. This won the backing of

Welsh regions. Most wanted change and more cash. They have now got

both. The four regions and their club colleagues across Europe will

be in charge of commercial matters, including TV deals. There has been

talk of doubling the value of the tournament to ?100 million. There

would not have been a new tournament without television. An agreement

with rival broadcasters was crucial. The Millennium Stadium will host the

European cup final, the last in the present format. What else will

change? The champions cup will involve 20 teens. Only one Welsh

team is guaranteed a place but as things stand, the Ospreys and

Scarlets would qualify. The Dragons and blues would play in a

second-tier tournament. Organisers say the Welsh sides will get ?1

million a season more than they do at present. The domestic dispute

goes on. A new legal contract is yet to be agreed. Money is also central

to that argument. The regions would like more of it for releasing

players for international duty. Having played hardball in Europe and

got what they wanted, the only way to do the same. -- they are unlikely

to do the same. He says he went through 11 months of

hell - tonight Nigel Evans walked free from court after being cleared

of a string of sex offence charges - including one of rape. The former

shadow Welsh Secretary, who was born in Swansea, had been accused of

crimes against seven men, but maintained his innocence throughout.

David Cornock reports. He walked from court and innocent

man, cleared of all nine charges after a five-week trial and keen to

get back to work. It is the work I have done for the last 22 years so

this is not a time for celebration or euphoria. After the last 11

months that I have gone through, nothing will ever be the same again.

Nigel Evans was born and bred in Swansea where his grandfather set up

the family newsagent business. He started in the local council and at

university when he was taught by a Labour MP. He was a diminutive

character, almost blew the date University. He was not openly gay at

that time. -- almost bullied at university. He was not the hard

drinking rugby playing typical student. He overcame a by-election

setback to win the Ribble Valley seat, a seat he has held since 1992.

He enjoyed the Westminster life. He was one of the great party animals.

Often the last at the bar and often on the bar at the Commons tens --

Commons terrace. Often ordinating -- ordering champagne and surrounded by

young men, it has to be said. Nigel Evans spent two years as the shadow

Welsh secretary. The Conservative main spokesman on Welsh affairs at

Westminster. His career peaked with his election as Deputy Speaker, a

politically neutral role. It was only a year after the death of his

mother that he decided to come out. When we met in the speakers how's he

joked about it. It was hard enough being a Tory in Swansea as coming

out gay. I saw it as God's little joke, being a two -- being a Tory

and born in Swansea. Come on, give me a break. Nigel Evans must now

wait to see if he will be welcomed back into the party he first joined

in Swansea 40 years ago. A major review of the schools system

says the Welsh Government lacks a long-term vision for education and

doesn't do enough to support teachers and head teachers. The

report, by one of the world's leading economic organisations - the

O.E.C.D - also says major changes have been forced through too

quickly. But the Education Minister Huw Lewis said, that it's important

that changes are brought in. It says there is a risk of the piece of

change becoming an issue. That is something we need to be guarding

against. But every academic year that goes by, even without us having

the highest standards possible, and other cohort of young people is not

getting the best so I make no apologies for that sense of urgency.

Police are investigating the sudden death of a 15-year-old boy in

Swansea. Officers were called to an area near Olchfa Comprehensive

School in Sketty, at half past nine this morning. The death of the

teenager, who was a pupil there, is being treated as unexplained. The

school says it's shocked and saddened, and will close tomorrow

afternoon as a mark of respect. In 19 New York man is believed to

have suffered hand injuries in a near explosion. Bomb disposal

experts have been called to the village of Wiston, in Pembrokeshire,

following a minor explosion. He was airlifted to Swansea's Morriston

Hospital. Properties nearby have been evacuated, and the road towards

Crundale has been closed off with motorists being asked to avoid the

area. Aled Scourfield reports. The Welsh ambulance service were called

property on the outskirts of Wiston this morning. One disposal experts

were also called to the property following what has been described as

a minor explosion. It is understood and 19 usual man suffered hand

injuries during the blast. He was taken to hospital in Swansea but his

injuries are not believed to be life threatening. For nearby properties

have been evacuated while a search is conducted. The incident has

searched local people. It was frantic. There was police

everywhere, there were dogs, we did not know what had happened, it was

frightening. The road has been shut for much of the day as police

investigate the cause of the explosion.

More dry weather to come. If we take a look at the map tonight and weak

cold front bringing patchy drizzle. Turning later and petering out. One

or two mist patches forming. Temperatures falling to three or

four in rural regions. Some early mist tomorrow morning. Patchy cloud

and sunshine with just a light breeze. Similar for most of the UK -

bright spells - some cloud - but turning cloudier for Scotland and

Northern Ireland with a band of rain pushing in to the northwest through

the afternoon - Top temperatures between 10C for the western isles

minus 17 in Southeast England. A dry end to the day across Wales - with

sunny spells and a few clouds - just the odd isolated light shower. Highs

of ten to 13C. Tomorrow night's largely dry - the sky clear for a

while - so turning chilly with some ground frost - but clouding over

through the early hours. Then not a bad weekend - Saturday's often

cloudy. Some brighter spells especially further east - but a few

spots of light rain or drizzle will push southeastwards later in the

day. But the chart shows that once that front is through on Saturday -

a ridge of high pressure builds back in from the Azores through Sunday.

So Sunday - more settled weather and it looks like the sunnier day of the

weekend. Cloudy with highs of 10-14C. The settled spell continues

into next week - a dry start with more fine weather for the first half

of the week, but signs it will turn more unsettled later in the the

week. Some rain with the wind picking-up and turning colder. Some
