recommended that teachers pay and conditions be devolved. The

education minister welcomed that recommendation but most teaching

unions oppose it. At the annual conference today, the Nu Teeside

Wales can't afford its own framework for teachers and its members would

lose out. Inevitably it will lead to teachers

in Wales being paid less because we are in low paid economy. We were

probably then see adrift of experienced teachers across the

border to England. Many in the education profession believe that

strikes like these could be avoided if the Welsh government takes

control. But many more idea that would come

at a cost. In Wales, we cannot afford that. The Fire Service is

urging people to report grass fires after receiving a hundred calls in

one day. Crews have tackled at least 480
