A woman only short list of candidates has been imposed in some

areas angering some members. Our reporter has more. Labour needs a

candidate to succeed this man for Nice. He says it should be a woman.

There are only seven out of 40. It seems the only way to ensure you get

women elected is to have a mechanism to ensure it happens. My own view is

that every seat that becomes vacant should be considered for an all

women short list. It was said that on current trends wheels will not

have an equal number of women in parliament until 2030. Some members

are unhappy at being told to use an all women short list. In another

neighbouring constituency they chose the man to succeed the retiring MP.

What should happen in Neath? This is not a matter for me. Whether we have

an open short list or an all women short list, it is not a matter for

me and I am not expressing an opinion on it. It is for the

national executive to decide. That will be in consultation with the
