The men who it's feared were radicalised in Cardiff -

:00:00.:00:07.

more details emerge tonight from friends and family.

:00:08.:00:15.

So has Wales got a problem with radicalised Muslim youth?

:00:16.:00:18.

We'll be asking if we have and what can be done about it.

:00:19.:00:43.

Your body after your death - soap viewers will be first to see

There are fears tonight that three men from Cardiff,

:01:00.:01:08.

who travelled to Syria to fight with extremist groups,

:01:09.:01:11.

The three young men left their homes without telling their families.

:01:12.:01:17.

Two of the three have appeared in a recruitment video thought to

:01:18.:01:23.

have been posted on the internet by the Islamic militant group, Isis.

:01:24.:01:26.

The BBC has also learnt that two of the men attended a mosque

:01:27.:01:29.

in the city which was visited by a preacher banned from other countries

:01:30.:01:32.

Live to our reporter Jordan Davies, Jordan.

:01:33.:01:44.

I'm outside this mosque in the heart of Cardiff. I'm here because two of

:01:45.:01:51.

the menu travelled to Syria studied and prayed here in addition to other

:01:52.:01:55.

mosques in the city. Today, worshippers here and Muslims across

:01:56.:02:00.

Cardiff condemned the actions of all three men. Aseel Muthana, Reyaad

:02:01.:02:12.

Khan, and Nasser Muthana. All to be in Wales and all popular younger

:02:13.:02:16.

men. They are now linked to one of the most violent Islamist groups in

:02:17.:02:21.

the world is owned by Al-Qaeda for their brutality. This footage shows

:02:22.:02:26.

two of them in apparent propaganda video that emerged on the internets.

:02:27.:02:31.

The footage cannot be verified by the BBC. In it, they appealed to

:02:32.:02:35.

Western Muslims to join them in their fight in Syria and Iraq. But

:02:36.:02:43.

when did all three leave Wales? 20-year-old Nasser Muthana left

:02:44.:02:46.

Cardiff last November. He told his family he was going to a seminar in

:02:47.:02:53.

Leicester or Shrewsbury. His friend, 20-year-old Reyaad Khan, is thought

:02:54.:02:57.

left at the same time, telling his family he was going to Birmingham

:02:58.:03:02.

for an Islamic Conference. Nasser Muthana... Aseel Muthana is also

:03:03.:03:08.

thought to be in Syria. He left in March this year saying he was going

:03:09.:03:12.

to a friend's house to revise for a maths exam. Today, a friend of

:03:13.:03:18.

Reyaad Khan's parents, they were shocked when he left the country. I

:03:19.:03:27.

do not want my son to end up in the wrong hands and radicalised. To

:03:28.:03:37.

reason they said that by the time we get there he will be removed from

:03:38.:03:43.

that part. It will be hard for us to track him down. It is three years

:03:44.:03:47.

since they prayed at this mosque in Cardiff before moving to others in

:03:48.:03:51.

the city. It is said, their views had hardened over time. The imam at

:03:52.:03:57.

the mosque says he believed all three may be radicalised elsewhere,

:03:58.:04:04.

but in Cardiff. It is not as simple as then watching a video on the

:04:05.:04:07.

Internet. There has to be an indoctrination, a process, people

:04:08.:04:12.

would have to have spoken to them. It is believed the two brothers

:04:13.:04:16.

attended this mosque in Cardiff. This evening, the BBC can convert

:04:17.:04:22.

that this well known a cleric, who is banned from entering Switzerland,

:04:23.:04:26.

preached here, two years ago. It is not known if any of the three menu

:04:27.:04:30.

travelled to Syria were in his audience. The father of Aseel

:04:31.:04:36.

Muthana and Reyaad Khan does not want to appear on camera and told

:04:37.:04:43.

the BBC he is a broken man. He did not seem like a hardliner. He

:04:44.:04:48.

believed in films, he likes films. He liked science fiction films. He

:04:49.:04:58.

was active. He did not like to stay in one place for longer than a few

:04:59.:05:03.

minutes. It depends which group they are with and watch ideologies they

:05:04.:05:08.

have internalised. If they have taken on ideologies that say it is

:05:09.:05:12.

OK to attack targets in the West, and that is obviously a serious

:05:13.:05:16.

threats. Some research has recently come out I think, that says

:05:17.:05:20.

historically, one in nine people eventually come back to the UK arm

:05:21.:05:26.

pose some sort of threats. This is not the first time fears had been

:05:27.:05:30.

razor radicalised Asian in Cardiff. In February 20 12, three men, two of

:05:31.:05:34.

them brothers, were jailed for almost 40 years for plotting to bomb

:05:35.:05:37.

the London stock exchange. It has been months now since the three

:05:38.:05:41.

young men left Wales. It is unclear how long it will be before families

:05:42.:05:46.

and friends and the authorities will make contact with them again. the

:05:47.:05:54.

vast amount of people live spoken to have expressed shock at these three

:05:55.:05:58.

men. But some people have said that this has shone a light on something

:05:59.:06:01.

that has been an issue in Cardiff for a while. And it is something,

:06:02.:06:10.

but needs to be tackled. Thank you. Two of the memo constituents of the

:06:11.:06:14.

Cardiff MP Stephen Doughty. Stephen, do you believe that these men were

:06:15.:06:20.

radicalised in Wales, in Cardiff? It is not clear. But it is clear that

:06:21.:06:25.

they have come under significant influences by people who are

:06:26.:06:29.

preaching a twisted and inaccurate form of Islam. That is certainly the

:06:30.:06:32.

view of the community leaders I spoke to a cross Cardiff. This does

:06:33.:06:37.

raise the question, do you believe the Muslim community in Cardiff is

:06:38.:06:44.

doing enough to police its own? From the man I spoke to and the community

:06:45.:06:47.

leaders I spoke to, it is clear that they all condemn these activities.

:06:48.:06:54.

They say they are both un-Islamic and against the principles of

:06:55.:06:57.

tolerance and respect that we have a proud tradition of in Cardiff. They

:06:58.:07:01.

are united in their desire to tackle this. But we have to be realistic

:07:02.:07:07.

that, even with the best imam 's, young people have access to the

:07:08.:07:10.

Internet and other sources of information, so we cannot cover

:07:11.:07:16.

every single base. We need to tackle every angle of this. Is there is

:07:17.:07:20.

implicit criticism in your answer that some of the authorities are

:07:21.:07:25.

fallen down on the job here? The raw questions to be asked about what

:07:26.:07:28.

videos are available on the Internet and, indeed, some of the messages

:07:29.:07:32.

which are getting to these young people. But we all need to redouble

:07:33.:07:37.

our efforts. I'm convinced from speaking to the community leaders

:07:38.:07:39.

that we will continue to do that. Why do you believe that three young

:07:40.:07:49.

men, living in Cardiff, would leave their homes and go to Syria like

:07:50.:07:54.

this? That is the question at all of us are asking. Indeed, there is a

:07:55.:08:00.

lot of shock in the community and among local representatives. We

:08:01.:08:04.

cannot fathom every reason for each one. But what is clear is that

:08:05.:08:07.

people like this are often vulnerable, and are looking for

:08:08.:08:12.

answers on complex topics. Unfortunately, there are those who

:08:13.:08:15.

will seek to groom and manipulate these people into versions of Islam

:08:16.:08:20.

that lead them to this terrible and tragic decision. Thank you.

:08:21.:08:23.

The families of four people who died in a car

:08:24.:08:26.

crash on the A44 near Llangurig last week, say, their loved ones will be

:08:27.:08:29.

Alison Hind, her uncle Martin Pugh and his partner's parents, Margaret

:08:30.:08:33.

and John Kehoe, died when their car collided with a fuel tanker.

:08:34.:08:37.

Alison's 18-month-old daughter, Holly, is in a stable condition

:08:38.:08:41.

The BBC journalist Jeremy Bowen has taken to Twitter to raise concerns

:08:42.:08:47.

about his father's care at the University Hospital of Wales

:08:48.:08:51.

On the social networking site he said Gareth Bowen, who's 84,

:08:52.:08:56.

was not given any food or water "in error" while in hospital with a

:08:57.:09:01.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board says it's investigating.

:09:02.:09:10.

Start talking to your loved ones about what happens

:09:11.:09:12.

after your death - that's the message from The Welsh Government.

:09:13.:09:15.

From December next year, the law will change in Wales.

:09:16.:09:17.

We'll have to opt out of donating our organs, rather than opt in

:09:18.:09:20.

Adverts promoting the change are to start appearing

:09:21.:09:26.

Last year, 36 people died waiting for an organ donation in Wales. The

:09:27.:09:45.

clock is ticking for many more. This is a hard hitting message. The law

:09:46.:09:49.

is changing and the Welsh Government wants us to start thinking about

:09:50.:09:52.

organ donation. From December next year, it will be presumed we are

:09:53.:09:55.

prepared to give our organs when we die unless we decide to opt out.

:09:56.:10:05.

this bill offers hope. It is a big change and one which came with a

:10:06.:10:08.

degree of controversy. The decisions you make it through five hours of

:10:09.:10:16.

debate in the National Assembly made Wales one of the first of the UK

:10:17.:10:20.

nations to adopt an track and opt out. we know that when you make an

:10:21.:10:29.

important change you need a longer run into it. You need to do a

:10:30.:10:33.

variety of things to order -- in order to make sure that all sorts of

:10:34.:10:36.

people with all sorts of different ways of life have an equal chance to

:10:37.:10:40.

find out about what is happening. That is why the campaign is so

:10:41.:10:45.

important. The Welsh Government argues that under the new law, there

:10:46.:10:48.

would be 50 more organ donors per year. But many are not convince.

:10:49.:10:53.

Some confidence that macro concerned about ethics. Others questioned

:10:54.:10:56.

whether the change will make a real difference. I'm in favour of

:10:57.:11:01.

increasing the number of organs for donation. It is a brilliant gift.

:11:02.:11:04.

But I think the Welsh could not's new law is a bad one. It will not

:11:05.:11:09.

work and has danger of damaging the organ donation system across the UK.

:11:10.:11:13.

It is a bad law and it should not have been passed. The views are

:11:14.:11:17.

family members will still play an important part in the decision over

:11:18.:11:22.

whether or not the organs of somebody who has died will be taken.

:11:23.:11:26.

The advertising campaign comes with the message that the law is changing

:11:27.:11:29.

and that we must start talking about it.

:11:30.:11:30.

On target and ready to compete in Glasgow - a month to go until the

:11:31.:11:36.

And the warmest day of the year so far for some of us - but there's

:11:37.:11:44.

We've got countryside, water, wind and even sunshine - occasionally.

:11:45.:11:55.

All the ingredients you need for world-beating business.

:11:56.:11:58.

That was the message to investors in the City of London today.

:11:59.:12:01.

The Welsh Government was pitching for marine energy, hydro, solar,

:12:02.:12:05.

Our Economics Correspondent Sarah Dickins was there.

:12:06.:12:15.

It was all about a team approach. The Welsh Government and the

:12:16.:12:21.

advisory body natural advisory source as well give the message that

:12:22.:12:24.

Wales was open for Green business. In other words, business that does

:12:25.:12:29.

not use our natural resources. Those natural assets are worth more than

:12:30.:12:33.

?8 billion they say, a total they reach by adding the value to the

:12:34.:12:38.

economy of forestry, tourism, coastline and potential energy

:12:39.:12:40.

generation through a wide range of renewable sources. This includes the

:12:41.:12:49.

tide and wind. This place in Cardiff employs 30 people and has developed

:12:50.:12:52.

many renewal projects in several years, but very few in Wales. What

:12:53.:12:56.

has happened since then is partly with the recession, I think, it has

:12:57.:13:04.

become a political football in Westminster and it is certainly not

:13:05.:13:07.

as popular as it was. So I would say that it has come down the agenda

:13:08.:13:11.

centrally. But it does come up the agenda in Wales. Today, but amid the

:13:12.:13:16.

splendour of Mansion house in the City of London, the team from Wales

:13:17.:13:23.

promised simplify decisions and financial help. For companies

:13:24.:13:25.

wanting to bring their projects and jobs to Wales, this would be the

:13:26.:13:30.

thing. Would they welcome shocking that macro fracking or shale gas?

:13:31.:13:34.

Fracking is a new technology, so we would have to look into that. In

:13:35.:13:38.

Wales, 30% of our land is protected. There is no intention to change

:13:39.:13:42.

that. So, fracking onside and any other development, it was safe we

:13:43.:13:47.

would want to work with the developers in the right place at the

:13:48.:13:51.

right time. But when it comes to the nuclear sector, he says it is

:13:52.:13:55.

creating lots of jobs in Wales and because it is very controlled, they

:13:56.:13:59.

can ensure it is safe. The drive is to win investment. Fantastic. I'm so

:14:00.:14:06.

impressed. I wish we had, could replicate it everywhere. Opens all

:14:07.:14:12.

now, Wales has not been a focus of investment in these so-called Green

:14:13.:14:16.

economy. There's a great feeling outside here tomorrow about what we

:14:17.:14:19.

are doing. People are playing catch up with Wales, not the other way

:14:20.:14:26.

around. But in reality, most of the projects in Scotland on there? If

:14:27.:14:31.

you look at our business environment it is not the one which exist in

:14:32.:14:36.

Scotland. You know, and I know, that there is great uncertainty in

:14:37.:14:40.

Scotland because of the referendum. There is certainly sin is certainly

:14:41.:14:42.

sinister goods amounts of money in the City of London are looking for

:14:43.:14:47.

investment and also across the UK, the Green sector, if you like, is

:14:48.:14:51.

growing. But when you speak to people in Wales in that sector, they

:14:52.:14:55.

say it is just not happening enough there and many of the projects they

:14:56.:14:59.

are working on either in Scotland or the East of England. The Welsh

:15:00.:15:02.

Government has quite a challenge if it is going to reach its dreams in

:15:03.:15:08.

terms of Green growth. The Welsh Government and natural resources

:15:09.:15:10.

Wales are adamant that despite courting the city, they are not

:15:11.:15:12.

going to be soft on business. An independent review

shape ever, that is the certain. But if I will been good enough shape to

:17:13.:17:16.

win a medal, I am not sure yet. I will not know until I am fully going

:17:17.:17:19.

over the hurdles again which will happen in the next few weeks. There

:17:20.:17:23.

are still five weeks to go and a lot can change in time.

:17:24.:17:24.

Wales's wrestling team is one of experience but with just five

:17:25.:17:26.

in it, Sarah Connelly from Maesteg is the only women.

:17:27.:17:29.

That means she has to train with her male counterparts.

:17:30.:17:32.

The 25-year-old was originally a judo player competing

:17:33.:17:35.

for both Wales and Great Britain, and made a successful transition

:17:36.:17:37.

into wrestling after winning gold at the British Open in 2009.

:17:38.:17:45.

It is a bit awkward because I am the only woman on the team. But you just

:17:46.:17:54.

have to join in with the banter and get on with it! It is good in terms

:17:55.:17:59.

of wrestling because they have crazy strength compared to women I

:18:00.:18:03.

suppose. But the only difficulty is women wrestle differently to men.

:18:04.:18:07.

Wales's shooting team are preparing for the Games with

:18:08.:18:09.

Sport Wales has linked up with the University of South Wales to assess

:18:10.:18:13.

By linking them up to a heart monitor

:18:14.:18:16.

and playing loud effects to recreate a sporting atmosphere, the athletes

:18:17.:18:19.

is certainly does because the can then go it is just noise and I've

:18:20.:18:32.

shot with noise before. If you haven't and I used to silence reigns

:18:33.:18:36.

you may not know what is going on. we have all been there at one stage

:18:37.:18:42.

or another. Whenever it is close, it gets more pressured. But it depends

:18:43.:18:47.

on who deals with that the best. Some shooters are better than others

:18:48.:18:54.

and dealing with it. Castles from hearing Cardiff will have the colour

:18:55.:19:00.

red and a team logo projected onto them. With just a month to go it is

:19:01.:19:05.

a show of support for our 200 plus athletes before they head out to

:19:06.:19:06.

Glasgow. Brian Davies is Chef de Mission

:19:07.:19:11.

for Team Wales. Brian -

:19:12.:19:13.

in a month's time we'll be getting From a Welsh point of view -

:19:14.:19:15.

how are preparations going? Week-old is do with more time. You

:19:16.:19:30.

saw some of the preparations are going through there, most of those

:19:31.:19:34.

guys are definitely ready. They'll be raring to go. They are working

:19:35.:19:38.

very hard, the gymnast in Barcelona, the swimmers have just come back

:19:39.:19:42.

from France, the shooters are doing that biofeedback projects. Things

:19:43.:19:46.

are looking pretty good at the moment. We have some deadlines

:19:47.:19:49.

coming from Glasgow but we are pretty confident that we will meet

:19:50.:19:54.

them and the team will be ready. The target is 27 medals.

:19:55.:19:59.

about Dai Greene struggling - worrying, if one of leading athletes

:20:00.:20:02.

For a nation of our size, when a big athlete has problems it has a big

:20:03.:20:17.

impact upon us. It is not like the English team to absorb lots of

:20:18.:20:20.

withdrawals. If we have withdrawals, it has an impact. The die has a

:20:21.:20:25.

world-class coach and a world-class support team behind him. I suppose

:20:26.:20:29.

he is preparing the ground just in case he does not retain his title.

:20:30.:20:33.

But I know, with Rhys Williams and all the other young athletes that we

:20:34.:20:37.

have picked in the athletics team, I am sure the squad will do their best

:20:38.:20:39.

to do us proud. You've been to two previous games -

:20:40.:20:41.

how do you think Glasgow will I have been really impressed by the

:20:42.:20:52.

Glasgow organising committee. They have done a fantastic job. They have

:20:53.:20:58.

been quite tight on the budgets, typically of the Scots. But they are

:20:59.:21:01.

delivering some fantastic venues. They definitely have a mantra of

:21:02.:21:06.

athlete centred and I'm sure it will be like that. But in Delhi, the

:21:22.:21:37.

venues, a bit like a home game. We will see you in and Brian. Good luck

:21:38.:21:41.

The 29-year-old, who left the Ospreys last month,

Bristol, whose Premiership hopes were dashed

:21:59.:22:02.

by London Welsh at the end of the season, have already secured the

:22:03.:22:05.

services of Wales internationals, Ryan Jones and Dwayne Peel.

:22:06.:22:09.

Meanwhile, Wales Coach, Warren Gatland, says his side proved

they are good enough to compete with the best sides in the world ahead

Cricket now. Glamorgan have a healthy lead after day three of the

County Championship match at Bristol.

:23:03.:23:09.

Derek enjoys a spot of tennis - a nice evening for a match?

:23:10.:23:18.

In fact, today was the warmest day of the year so far for some of us.

:23:19.:23:27.

In Cardiff, the temperature reached 25 Celsius, that's 77 Fahrenheit.

:23:28.:23:31.

Pleasantly cooler on some coasts, with sea breezes.

:23:32.:23:33.

Now over the next few days, more dry weather to come.

:23:34.:23:42.

Signs of a change later in the week, but there is some doubt

:23:43.:23:51.

The best of the sunshine today was in the north and west and on the

:23:52.:23:57.

coast, but in Powys and the south, cumulus clouds developed inland with

:23:58.:24:00.

Any showers in the south-east will fade away to leave a dry night.

:24:01.:24:09.

The skies are clear and turning cool in the countryside,

:24:10.:24:14.

with the temperature in rural spots falling into single figures.

:24:15.:24:33.

Tomorrow we will have a cold front heading our way and will eventually

:24:34.:24:44.

introduced cooler, fresh air. Finance in the first thing tomorrow

:24:45.:24:47.

for most of us, some gorgeous sunshine in Newport and Newtown. A

:24:48.:24:53.

bit more cloud pads for the north of the country, but the temperature

:24:54.:24:59.

starting at around 15 Celsius. During the day, clouds will build

:25:00.:25:03.

up. Still some sunny spells in the afternoon, most places dry that I

:25:04.:25:09.

would not rule out the odd, light shower. Otherwise, it is a dry story

:25:10.:25:14.

with the top temperature being around 22 Celsius, 72 Fahrenheit. It

:25:15.:25:19.

will feel muddy again and less warm in the north. The big: The coast,

:25:20.:25:25.

with the breeze of the sea. I think the coast will be the best place to

:25:26.:25:30.

be tomorrow because the pollen counts will be once again very high.

:25:31.:25:41.

We should say a high of 17 Celsius and another fine day for you in Port

:25:42.:25:47.

Talbot. Lots of sunshine and a high of 20 Celsius in the seven sisters.

:25:48.:25:51.

Tomorrow evening, the odd shower in the North East, otherwise a dry

:25:52.:25:58.

evening, some clear spells and turning fresher but still feeling

:25:59.:26:04.

muddy in the South. No lower than about 15 in Swansea. Wednesday will

:26:05.:26:08.

bring clouds and sunshine, temperatures are lower than recently

:26:09.:26:12.

at 18 or 20 Celsius with a southeasterly breeze. Later in the

:26:13.:26:16.

week we have a low pressure over the Atlantic which will move towards us.

:26:17.:26:20.

We are not 100% sure yet how things will pan out. On Thursday the risen

:26:21.:26:26.

risk of rain and if you show us on Friday. There is a question mark

:26:27.:26:30.

about how much it rain we will see. Stay tuned for updates. Tonight 's

:26:31.:26:45.

headlines. There are fears that three men from Cardiff are

:26:46.:26:47.

radicalised here before travelling to Syria to fight with extremist

:26:48.:26:51.

MPs said there is one clear way to tackle the problem. it requires

:27:10.:27:16.

responsibility from their friends, family and community leaders. I

:27:17.:27:23.

would certainly urge anybody who has any concerns about a friend or

:27:24.:27:27.

relative who may be being acting strangely or wanting to talk about

:27:28.:27:32.

going abroad to contact the relevant authorities.

:27:33.:27:34.

That's Wales Today, thank you for watching.

From all of us on the programme, good evening.
