A major investigation into the failings of

:00:18.:00:22.

South Wales Police following the murder of Lynette White 26 years

:00:23.:00:25.

Three men were wrongly convicted of her murder.

:00:26.:00:30.

This latest report was carried out after Britain's biggest police

:00:31.:00:33.

Tony Parris is one of the original Cardiff Three -

:00:34.:00:43.

men wrongly convicted and jailed for the murder of Lynette White.

:00:44.:00:46.

Back on Valentine's Day 1988, Miss White, who was 20 at the time,

:00:47.:00:49.

was found murdered in this Butetown flat.

:00:50.:00:52.

Despite reports of a white man seen fleeing the scene,

:00:53.:00:57.

It wasn't until 1992 that Tony Parris,

:00:58.:01:02.

Yusef Abdulahi and Stephen Miller had their convictions quashed.

:01:03.:01:07.

Advances in DNA finally led to the arrest

:01:08.:01:10.

After that a new inquiry was launched into what went wrong with

:01:11.:01:19.

Eight former South Wales officers were charged with perverting

:01:20.:01:24.

the course of justice - the biggest case of its kind

:01:25.:01:27.

However, their trial collapsed when it was thought evidence files

:01:28.:01:32.

The missing paperwork later turned up.

:01:33.:01:37.

Following the collapse of the trial, a large number of complaints were

:01:38.:01:40.

The Devon and Cornwall force were asked to investigate perjury,

:01:41.:01:46.

conspiracy and other allegations of misconduct.

:01:47.:01:51.

Today, the operation published their findings and most

:01:52.:01:55.

The report concluded there was no evidence of criminality or

:01:56.:02:05.

misconduct by officers, although it did recommend 34 different areas

:02:06.:02:09.

in which South Wales Police could improve their procedures in future.

:02:10.:02:16.

South Wales Police said the report reflected the good faith

:02:17.:02:19.

and professional leadership with which officers approached

:02:20.:02:22.

the important investigation into the earlier police inquiry.

:02:23.:02:27.

The Police and Crime Commissioner says the report's findings are

:02:28.:02:30.

reassuring and points the finger for the collapse of the trial

:02:31.:02:33.

The question is one for the Crown Prosecution Service.

:02:34.:02:40.

A highly critical report from the inspector,

:02:41.:02:45.

I am not sure what has happened as a result of that, and that is

:02:46.:02:50.

The total cost of trials, quashed convictions and investigations is

:02:51.:02:57.

But for Tony Parris, it is another report that has failed to

:02:58.:03:04.

give himm the answers he was looking for.

:03:05.:03:07.

I don't expect anything from the system.

:03:08.:03:12.

I just want to relax now, it has gone on 26 years,

:03:13.:03:18.

More than a quarter of a century on, the truth about what happened has

:03:19.:03:24.

long been established but the conduct of the police investigation

:03:25.:03:27.

Lawyers for those wrongly jailed are still hoping the Home Secretary

:03:28.:03:32.

Also today, the Home Secretary, Theresa May, has announced

:03:33.:03:39.

a new chair to lead the review into how the police handled the murder

:03:40.:03:43.

The private investigator from Cwmbran was killed with

:03:44.:03:48.

No-one has been convicted of his murder.

:03:49.:03:53.

Baroness Nuala O'Loan, a former Police Ombudsman for Northern

:03:54.:03:56.

Horizon, the company responsible for the planned new Wylfa nuclear power

:03:57.:04:03.

station on Anglesey, says it won't produce any power until at least

:04:04.:04:07.

Meanwhile, plans for power lines to link up the new

:04:08.:04:14.

Wylfa and offshore windfarms with the Grid have also been delayed.

:04:15.:04:17.

Some people want the cables to run under the sea

:04:18.:04:20.

National Grid says it wants to ensure it takes

:04:21.:04:24.

A woman who was abused by her uncle, a Jehovah's Witness elder has

:04:25.:04:30.

spoken about her anger at the way the Church handled her case.

:04:31.:04:33.

Karen Morgan from Barry says they failed to act on her complaint.

:04:34.:04:36.

Yesterday, Mark Sewell was jailed for 14 years

:04:37.:04:39.

A spokesman for the Jehovah's Witnesses has said police

:04:40.:04:44.

She is putting her life back together

:04:45.:04:51.

but Karen Morgan says she is still struggling to come to terms with

:04:52.:04:54.

I really was more naive, I would say, than other girls my age,

:04:55.:05:01.

which is how he was able to groom me and he was able to do it very

:05:02.:05:08.

53-year-old Mark Sewell was jailed for 14 years yesterday

:05:09.:05:15.

after being convicted of eight sexual offences against women

:05:16.:05:19.

Born and brought up as a Jehovah's Witness, the Church was the family's

:05:20.:05:25.

life and so when the abuse began, it was to the Church they turned.

:05:26.:05:31.

What Karen went through as a result she now says is harder

:05:32.:05:34.

Those group of elders who sat me as a child in front of a guy who

:05:35.:05:43.

had been abusing me for years and expected me to talk about it

:05:44.:05:47.

in front of him and him calling me a liar, I mean, I think that has

:05:48.:05:52.

probably had the most effect on the rest of my life

:05:53.:05:58.

because what he did to me I have had to try to deal with, but I have also

:05:59.:06:03.

had to try and deal with the fact of how the whole thing was handled.

:06:04.:06:07.

It is that part that I am just, I want answers for that.

:06:08.:06:13.

Today, a spokesman for the congregation

:06:14.:06:15.

in Barry said that because these offences happened 20 years ago,

:06:16.:06:19.

no-one there now knew of Mark Sewell.

:06:20.:06:23.

But in a statement from the organisation in London,

:06:24.:06:26.

they say Mark Sewell was expelled over 20 years ago.

:06:27.:06:29.

He has not served in any position of authority since then.

:06:30.:06:33.

When any Jehovah's Witness is accused of serious wrongdoing,

:06:34.:06:38.

They say victims are never forced to attend a meeting or confront

:06:39.:06:45.

an alleged perpetrator of child abuse and procedures are

:06:46.:06:49.

Karen has no regrets about waving her right to anonymity.

:06:50.:06:55.

She has already been contacted by dozens of people thanking her

:06:56.:06:59.

She is now looking forward and wants changes made

:07:00.:07:07.

A candlelit vigil has taken place in Denbigh tonight for a

:07:08.:07:13.

73-year-old man who's gone missing on the Greek island of Crete.

:07:14.:07:16.

Arthur Jones hasn't been seen since June 19th - two days

:07:17.:07:19.

The Denbigh community has come together to raise money

:07:20.:07:24.

for his family, who have travelled to the island.

:07:25.:07:29.

Welsh Premier clubs have been in European action tonight

:07:30.:07:31.

in the Europa League first qualifying round.

:07:32.:07:34.

Airbus UK Broughton drew 1-1 with Norwegian side FK Haugesund

:07:35.:07:37.

Meanwhile, Aberystwyth Town lost 4-0 at Northern Irish side Derry City.

:07:38.:07:43.

Bangor lost 4-0 away at Stjarnan in Iceland.

:07:44.:07:47.

Glamorgan have beaten Middlesex in the T20 Blast tonight

:07:48.:07:50.

Captain Jim Allenby hit 105 runs off 63 balls as the Welsh county

:07:51.:07:56.

passed the home side's total of 184 with three balls to spare.

:07:57.:08:02.

Is it going to be wet tomorrow, Benny?

:08:03.:08:12.

Yes, it is going to remain unsettled as we head into the weekend as well.

:08:13.:08:21.

Tonight, a cloudy picture and we have got rain already coming into

:08:22.:08:25.

parts of the North and West but it is a fairly mild night. The wind has

:08:26.:08:31.

already picked up tonight and we will see them strengthening further

:08:32.:08:36.

tomorrow. This area of low pressure is controlling our weather, feeding

:08:37.:08:40.

in this cold weather system, which will bring cloudier conditions and

:08:41.:08:46.

some rain. Tomorrow morning, it is a cloudy start. Quite a blister

:08:47.:08:50.

restart as well. Some intense downpours possible for Ireland and

:08:51.:08:55.

Scotland. South-east England enjoying the best of the weather.

:08:56.:09:02.

Still warm with a top temperature of 29 Celsius. Little chance of that in

:09:03.:09:07.

Wales tomorrow. We are stuck under the cloud and rain. The rain will

:09:08.:09:14.

continue into tomorrow night as well. Hopefully, the wind will push

:09:15.:09:19.

it through and we will see something a bit drier for Anglesey and

:09:20.:09:24.

Pembrokeshire. It is a wet start for parts of the south-east on Saturday

:09:25.:09:29.

but the rain band will clear and the afternoon is not looking too bad. We

:09:30.:09:33.

can look forward to some sunshine but there is the risk of the odd

:09:34.:09:39.

shower. Temperatures ranging between 16 and 19 Celsius. We have some more

:09:40.:09:44.

showers on Sunday, they could be done to read, but a little bit of

:09:45.:09:48.

brightness as well. Hopefully more settled by the middle of next week.

:09:49.:09:53.

And that is Wales Today. We'll have updates in the morning from around

:09:54.:09:56.

6.25am. From all of us here, good night.
