A review set up to stop neglect in care homes across Wales will only be

able to do its job if more people come forward to give evidence.

That's the message tonight from the relatives of elderly

people allegedly neglected in homes across the Gwent area.

The Welsh Government set up the independent inquiry after the

biggest ever police investigation into neglect collapsed last year.

You may find some of the details in Paul Heaney's report distressing.

One person was so badly neglected that they're back was eaten away and

you could see the internal organs. How could that have happened?

Lorraine describes the alleged neglect her mother and others

received at their care homes. She tried to complain about her care but

only discovered the true extent of her mother's injuries he was after

she died. It was just one of more than 100 cases investigated. When

the police spent seven years amassing evidence from over 4000

people at the cost of ?11 million. Charges were brought against this

Doctor but he suffered brain damage and couldn't stand trial. This isn't

about proportioning blame or compensation. We do need to continue

this campaign because we really don't want this to happen to any

other families. Gail says people must have known her aunt was

suffering in a care home before she died. She feels speaking to the

doctor's review is the last chance to make amends. There are people who

knew. And they have not come forward as yet? Not far as we know. Neglect

is alleged to have taken place in a recently as well. -- more recently.

BBC Wales to the story of the Rannoch in her nursing home earlier

this year. The lower will suit changed to make it easier to

prosecute managers and owners of care homes but that's not enough for

some. There is greater legal protection for children rather than

elderly people. That's not good enough at the moment. Care standards

Inspectorate has done a tremendous job but they need the support of

local authorities and local and central government. These families

are still wracked with guilt. They couldn't stop their loved ones

suffering and don't want history to repeat itself.

Today, Friends of the Earth Cymru is threatening

The environmental group says it'll proceed with a Judicial Review

unless the Welsh government re-starts its consultation process

but Welsh ministers remain committed to the project.

Gridlock on the M4 around Newport, described by the Prime Minister as

is to build a relief road. Last September ministers consulted about

plans with the three routes looked at in detail. A fortnight ago, they

plumped for the Black Root, a controversial decision with a ?1

billion price tag. But a fourth option, the blue route, was not a

part of the consultation and although we understand it was

considered by the Welsh government, they questioned the legality of not

including in the consultation. The environment committee has come out

and said, this is an option that should have been considered by the

Welsh government and they haven't considered it is in our view on

unlawful so they haven't done their work thoroughly enough and we are

asking them to reconsider, go back to the drawing board. In a letter

sent to the Welsh government, the environmental group says questions

remain as to why sufficient account wasn't given to the environmental

concerns. Doubts are cast in the traffic forecasts and the total

costs and funding of the scheme remains uncertain. Defending her

decision against opponents of the plan, the transport minister said

she expected a legal challenge. I am sure there will be a challenge but

you tell me what major infrastructure project has been

subject to any challenge. That is the reality of the world we and I

Wales' boxers have picked up five bronze medals at the

Commonwealth Games, bringing the total medal tally to 34.

They could've been preparing to fight for gold if they had won

but as Tomos Dafydd reports, all five lost their semi-finals.

officials. Elsewhere, Nathan thoroughly enjoyed a one-sided

bout. He is a lifeguard but today, it was him who needed saving. His

coaches through in the towel in the third round. Wales had picked up

five bronze medals but there will be some disappointment that no man

Welsh boxer has made it through to the final.

Wales' gymnasts have had a great Games.

Georgina Hockenhull won bronze on the beam.

It was the 17-year-old's second medal here.

She won bronze on Tuesday in the overall team event.

To France now where the women's rugby World Cup has begun.

Tonight, Wales took on the hosts and despite a valiant effort,

they failed to score any points, eventually losing 26-0 to France.

By the time we get to Sunday, we can look forward to something drier and

brighter. There is a risk of localised flooding. It is moving

north and east woods. Intense downpours possible. We could see

almost two inches of rain. With that comes the risk of flooding. The rain

and we could see them reaching gale force at times. But then it looks

better by the time we go into Sunday. Bright and breezy and just

the risk of the old, isolated shower.
