The Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire Council is to step aside with | :00:14. | :00:16.
immediate effect following a row over unlawful payments he received. | :00:17. | :00:18.
The council has announced that Bryn Parry Jones is taking a period of | :00:19. | :00:21.
He's currently under investigation by police over cash payments he | :00:22. | :00:26.
received instead of pension contributions. | :00:27. | :00:43.
Last Friday, these protesters wanted the Chief Executive of the council | :00:44. | :00:50.
to go. Today, he stepped aside for a period of absence after months of | :00:51. | :00:54.
pressure for someone who has become a highly controversial figure. In | :00:55. | :00:58.
January, the Wales Audit Office decided that cash payments made to | :00:59. | :01:01.
Bryn Parry Jones and another senior council official instead of pension | :01:02. | :01:06.
contributions were unlawful. That led to a police investigation but no | :01:07. | :01:10.
evidence of any criminal offences was found. In July, the council | :01:11. | :01:15.
decided not to take any further action to reclaim the money worth | :01:16. | :01:21.
more than ?45,000. But a week later, a new police investigation | :01:22. | :01:23.
was launched with fresh information. Now it is claimed Bryn | :01:24. | :01:29.
Parry Jones spoke to two members of the council 's ruling independent | :01:30. | :01:33.
group asking why they voted for him to give the money back. One of them | :01:34. | :01:37.
says the chief executive has done the right thing. The Chief Executive | :01:38. | :01:41.
has taken a very honourable position this morning, with himself and the | :01:42. | :01:48.
leader. I think it is probably the right decision. The focus has been | :01:49. | :01:51.
on the Chief Executive for the last 18 months. It is a distraction for | :01:52. | :01:58.
the council. Some feel Bryn Parry Jones has blurred the lines between | :01:59. | :02:01.
politics and the job of a neutral official. They have put him on | :02:02. | :02:08.
gardening leave. It is quite nice burning full pay for this gardening | :02:09. | :02:13.
leave. It is not much of a sanction, if you ask me. We need to move | :02:14. | :02:17.
quickly to make sure that there is a real change in Pembrokeshire. This | :02:18. | :02:22.
former Council Chief Executive says they do a tough job managing big | :02:23. | :02:30.
budgets and thousands of staff. They are unusual because they along with | :02:31. | :02:34.
one or two other senior officers on the council are subject to statutory | :02:35. | :02:39.
protection. They actually are very well protected and the council would | :02:40. | :02:42.
have to be very clear of its ground if it want to take any formal | :02:43. | :02:48.
discipline reaction. It cannot also without a totally independent | :02:49. | :02:50.
inspection by somebody outside of the council. The leader of | :02:51. | :02:54.
Pembrokeshire Council says Bryn Parry Jones 's departure is in the | :02:55. | :02:57.
best interests of the authority at this present time. The Jeff | :02:58. | :03:01.
executive 's critics are determined to make sure that his absence from | :03:02. | :03:07.
the headquarters becomes a permanent one. -- Chief Executive. | :03:08. | :03:09.
A rally co-driver from Carmarthenshire has been | :03:10. | :03:11.
injured in a crash in Northern Ireland which killed his driver. | :03:12. | :03:14.
Dai Roberts has been airlifted to hospital after the car left | :03:15. | :03:16.
the road during the Ulster Rally earlier this afternoon. | :03:17. | :03:18.
He is said to be in a stable condition. | :03:19. | :03:21.
20-year-old Timothy Cathcart died in the crash. | :03:22. | :03:22.
The rest of the rally has been cancelled. | :03:23. | :03:28.
Babies who are normally too young to be vaccinated against measles have | :03:29. | :03:30.
been given the MMR jab in a bid to contain an outbreak | :03:31. | :03:33.
There have been two confirmed cases at the Miles of Smiles nursery | :03:34. | :03:38.
in Baglan and five other children have been tested for the virus. | :03:39. | :03:41.
But Public Health Wales are confident that | :03:42. | :03:42.
This is the nursery at the centre of the latest measles out break in the | :03:43. | :04:00.
Swansea Bay area. Two children attending the nursery in Baglan have | :04:01. | :04:06.
been confirmed as having measles, five others are being tested for the | :04:07. | :04:11.
virus. Public Health Wales said the vaccination take a bad business | :04:12. | :04:14.
three was good but some children were at risk because under normal | :04:15. | :04:17.
circumstances they were too young to have received one or both doses of | :04:18. | :04:24.
the MMR vaccine. The first MMR jab is normally given at 12 months of | :04:25. | :04:28.
age with a second administered when the child is three years and four | :04:29. | :04:32.
months old. But today there was an opportunity for parents to get their | :04:33. | :04:35.
children vaccinated earlier than usual. We have a responsibility to | :04:36. | :04:42.
the children to make sure that the outbreak does not go any further. We | :04:43. | :04:47.
have had a high volume of children who have already had a vaccination, | :04:48. | :04:52.
it is just a small minority, that is why we have set up what we have set | :04:53. | :04:56.
up today. Hopefully any -- everybody is now 100% protected. This comes a | :04:57. | :05:03.
year after Wales 's worst measles epidemic was declared officially | :05:04. | :05:10.
over. Most of the cases were in the Swansea area. One man died from | :05:11. | :05:15.
pneumonia after contracting measles. The father of one was 25. Further | :05:16. | :05:22.
cases of measles were later identified at this secondary school | :05:23. | :05:25.
in the Swansea Valley. But health officials are confident the outbreak | :05:26. | :05:30.
at the nursery is already under control, thanks in part to the | :05:31. | :05:33.
prompt action taken by the nursery staff. This is not a case of | :05:34. | :05:39.
panicking, this is not the case of an outbreak like we had in 2013, it | :05:40. | :05:44.
is not as wide as that. But as ever, with all vaccinations, it is the | :05:45. | :05:49.
best things to do, get your child vaccinated in line with the | :05:50. | :05:53.
schedule. In the meantime, the nursery is open as normal and after | :05:54. | :05:56.
this morning 's vaccination session, more of the children who | :05:57. | :05:58.
come here are protected against measles. | :05:59. | :06:02.
The NHS in Wales will be the first in the UK | :06:03. | :06:05.
to fund a cannabis-based medicine for people with multiple sclerosis. | :06:06. | :06:07.
Sativex, an oral spray, has been approved by the All Wales Medicines | :06:08. | :06:10.
Strategy Group and will be available on prescription to treat muscle | :06:11. | :06:12.
spasms for MS sufferers who have not responded to other treatments. | :06:13. | :06:15.
It is the first of its kind to be licensed in the UK. | :06:16. | :06:21.
Hundreds of people paid tribute to Arthur | :06:22. | :06:22.
Jones, who died after going missing on a walking holiday on Crete, | :06:23. | :06:25.
Motorcyclists rode alongside the procession in Denbigh | :06:26. | :06:28.
and there was a guard of honour for the former soldier. | :06:29. | :06:31.
The 73-year-old was described as a popular character in his hometown. | :06:32. | :06:44.
He had many friends and his motorcycle club involvement and so | :06:45. | :06:52.
on, he used to marshal the parade for the remembrance service. He was | :06:53. | :06:56.
always very much publicly on display then and was involved in much | :06:57. | :06:59.
charity work as well. And was also a very good laugh, a very good | :07:00. | :07:04.
raconteur. He was a very popular gentleman. | :07:05. | :07:06.
Cricket on Glamorgan bowled out Essex for 286 on the first day | :07:07. | :07:09.
of their championship match at St Helens in Swansea. | :07:10. | :07:12.
At the close, the Welsh county were 27 for 1 in reply, 259 runs behind. | :07:13. | :07:17.

It is estimated that as many as 40,000 soldiers, | :07:26. | :07:27.
sailors and airmen from Wales died between 1914 and 1918. | :07:28. | :07:29.
