The First Minister says there will be NO new inquiry into standards

of care at Bridgend's Princess of Wales Hospital.

That's despite families at the centre of a collapsed trial

into neglect there saying they fear their relatives

The chief executive of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board

has admitted he owes some families an apology

for any poor care their loved ones may have received.

It left him in a coma at the Princess of Wales Hospital

He is also a victim of wilful neglect.

Two of the three nurses who pleaded guilty to neglecting vulnerable

patients admit they falsified his blood sugar records.

Alun's family is now wondering if his coma was connected to his blood

These nurses had to be in the ward for so long, you just came

to regard them as friends, then, because they are the support.

It is just disbelief. How can somebody do that?

After finding out now about what the nurses have done, I was just

wondering whether that contributed to him staying in the coma

Five nurses were charged with wilful neglect, but the trial of Jade Pugh

and Claire Cahill, who both pleaded not guilty, collapsed last month

The remaining three - Rebecca Jones, Lauro Bertulano and Natalie Jones -

But some families say the neglect at the hospital went

They say patients were not given medication and were left without

Karen Phillips' mother Sonia was one of the patients involved

I could literally see my mother wasting away before

I felt it would give me answers and because it collapsed, I don't have

those answers and I don't know that I ever will have those answers.

Karen Phillips and other relatives want a wide-ranging

A review, commissioned by the Welsh Government,

was published in May last year and today, the First Minister said

We have recognised the issues at Princess of Wales Hospital.

That is why of course we commissioned the Andrews Report.

That gave us the recommendations that we needed to move forward.

They have led to more stringent checks on hospitals,

However, the Andrews Review did not take into account patients'

The Health Board says it is difficult to say

What we are planning to do as soon as the court case is over,

we are planning to write to the families affected by that

and invite them in - if they want to - to talk to us about concerns.

And in that letter, there will be an apology, because

But those apologies don't give the much-needed closure that

Alun Evans' family and others like them are so desperate for.

A fire door could have given a family of five 30 minutes

of protection from a blaze which killed them all, a court has heard.

A firefighter who was the landlord of the house

in Prestatyn has gone on trial charged with their manslaughter.

Jay Liptrot is accused of failing to take even basic precautions to

reduce the risk of fire spreading through the building in 2012.

As one of the first firefighters at the scene, Jay Liptrot -

here in the middle - was praised for his valiant attempts to save

As a landlord, he faces five charges of manslaughter

These pictures show the devastation left by the blaze,

started deliberately in October 2012 by a woman in the downstairs flat.

Melanie Smith had been involved in a long-running dispute

with Lee-Anna Shiers, who lived upstairs.

The fire she set at the entrance to Miss Shiers' flat killed her,

Liam Timbrell, her partner, their 15-month-old son Charlie and Miss

Shiers' four-year-old nephew Bailey and two-year-old niece Skye,

who had been sleeping over that night.

The prosecution say that while Melanie Smith was convicted

of five murders, Jay Liptrot must also carry his share

They say he failed to take even basic precautions to protect

They say no fire door was fitted, which would have given them

an extra 30 minutes' protection, and that windows were sealed shut.

The prosecution say that a skylight in the upstairs flat

melted, creating a chimney effect, which drew fire and smoke through

Temperatures reached 170-200 Celsius - hot enough to melt

Lee-Anna had gone into the hottest and most toxic part of the flat

in an effort to save the children, but she quickly became unconscious.

Liam Timbrell was seen desperately trying to smash an upstairs window.

The prosecution invited the jury to consider whether

Jay Liptrot's carelessness was made worse by his 15 years' experience

He denies five counts of manslaughter and the trial,

which is expected to last for three weeks, continues.

A former North Wales police superintendent has appeared

in court accused of three further child sexual offences.

Gordon Anglesea is charged with two indecent assaults

and a serious sexual offence relating to a boy aged under 16

The 78-year-old from Old Colwyn was charged with

another seven child sexual offences in July.

He is due to appear again at Mold Crown Court on Friday.

Football, and Newport County have beaten Brackley Town 4-1

in a first round FA Cup replay at Rodney Parade.

The Welsh side will now face Barnet away in the second round next month.

Staying with football, Wales U21s have also been in action tonight

drawing 1-1 with Romania in Wrexham,

in their European Championships 2017 qualifier.

Wales went behind after just two minutes - but Wes Burns equalised

It means Wales remain unbeaten after five games

and stay top of their group, on 11 points.

Let's get the latest on Storm Barney. Derek's got the forecast.

Thanks very much, Jamie. The worst is just about over now with Storm

Barney moving away into the North Sea. This picture says it all, this

I receive very battling huge waves of Pembrokeshire. Wins as high as 85

mph have been recorded at Aberdaron. We have a weather warning in force,

but the winds are continuing to ease. The Hulk country should end

the night on a dry note with temperatures between 7-10 Celsius.

Tomorrow we have another area of low pressure moving in from the

Atlantic. This one has not been given a name, but it will still pack

a fair punch. It will be a dry start posting, but it will not last.

Through the morning, the wind will increase again as well. Across the

rest of the UK, bands of rain will move eastwards during the day with

some heavy rain in places, accompanied by gusty winds and gales

in the north-west, especially western Scotland. Following the rain

it will brighten up with blustery showers. That cold front will move

south-east, bringing some heavy bursts of rain with it. Behind it,

brightening up with sunshine, but more heavy showers coming into the

North. The Wings still strong, with gale force gusts and temperatures

above average. Tomorrow evening and overnight, some blustery showers, it

will continue to be fairly windy. Some dry, clear spells, as well.

Into Thursday, a few showers on the North, but more dry weather, some

dry spells and a little sunshine. On Friday, the risk of rain in the

South, but that all clear, then a big change, over the weekend a taste

of winter with Arctic winds and wintry showers.
