The Welsh government should speed up efforts to tackle poverty,

according to Labour Assembly Member Christine Chapman.

Latest figures suggest more than one in five people in Wales live

in poverty, with a household income less than ?271 a week.

We had a couple just now actually come in asking,

begging for a food voucher, because they haven't got food.

That is the things we are facing, really,

and the community are facing, over a time that's meant to be nice

Luke Evans is a carpet fitter in Mountain Ash.

He lives with his partner and two-year-old daughter.

He is struggling to pay off council-tax

debts and rent arrears he built up when he was unemployed.

You lose a lot of sleep and sometimes if there's bailiffs

you are afraid to answer the door when somebody knocks,

And many of those live in working households.

Christine Chapman is the chair of the

committee that produced the report on poverty in Wales.

We are a rich country in the main but yet people

are still struggling with their heating bills,

with their food, so, you know, that is absolutely appalling,

and I think there must be a strong message first of all to the UK

Government that, you know, things need to change.

But from the Welsh Government point of view I think

there needs to be some high-level discussions amongst

all of the ministers as to how we can really
