The battle to improve cancer care after the worst miss target figures

from one than two years. A 100 day action plan to improve services.

Jailed after a road rage attack brash Lewis Evans threatened a

couple with an airgun, terrifying their children in the back of the

car. For years, health boards have missed

targets set for cancer patients who are waiting

to receive treatment. Now, after the worst set of figures

for two-and-a-half years, the Welsh government has begun

what they call a 100-day action plan The cancer charity Macmillan say

they've been concerned about the lack of improvement

in cancer waiting times. Here's our political

editor, Nick Servini. Waiting times for the treatment

of cancer are among the most sensitive produced by the NHS

and as a result few statistics Figures published today

showed that in October, 81% of patients diagnosed

with cancer began their treatment And there were

significant variations. The Aneurin Bevan board

in south-east Wales did While Cardiff and Vale

did the worst with 63%. The Welsh Government says

the new 100 day plan prepared by health boards will focus

on speedier treatment. This month, some of the figures

are disappointing. The 100 day plans that the health

boards have produced, I asked for them earlier this month

so it's not just about reacting It is about saying we need

to have a refocus on what we do. We need to set out what we want

to improve in a definitive period of time and then look

at the long-term future as well. Of all the areas of the NHS

the treatment of cancer is often used by Welsh ministers

to defend their record on health. Latest figures for England

are virtually identical to Wales. But the downward trend over the past

few years and the inconsistency among health boards will be

a worry for ministers. Many will be acutely aware of the

political timetable. This action plan but last 100 days and in 140

days, we all go to the polls for the Assembly elections to decide who we

want to run the Welsh NHS over the next five years.

to people affected by cancer because when people receive a cancer

diagnosis it can be absolutely devastating and one of the issues

is that they face a period waiting for their treatment and they can

And not just them, their families and friends and those around them.

And obviously then the outcome of their cancer can be

affected as well if there is a delay to treatment.

There has been a huge rise in the number of cancer patients

being treated successfully in the Welsh NHS in recent years.

The challenge is keeping waiting lists down in the face

A 19-year-old man has been jailed for pointing an air gun at a couple

Police described it as a road rage incident.

This is his reaction to the sentence of 12 months in prison.

Me and my family are quite happy about the sentence because he is

a young boy and hopefully he can reflect over the Christmas period

and hopefully in the New Year he will come out a different person.

An area of Wrexham was evacuated this afternoon as police dealt

with an incident at a house in the Caia Park area.

Emergency services were called just after lunch and police asked people

to stay away from the immediate area.

A 26-year-old local man is now in custody.

Work on new flood defences in Denbighshire is going ahead next

year at the announcement of ?3 million from the Welsh Government.

The area was badly hit by flooding three years ago an elderly woman

died. There are concerns locally that the work will not be finished

"game changing" potential. It's part funded by the NFL

and the material created in Wales could be used commercially

to improve brain protection during high-impact sports

like American football. The main thing is the amount of

folds and they can dissipate energy and mitigate energy from an impact.

Typical sport injury would be one of those impacts and current technology

does not deal with non-vertical impacts this material, this new

development offers good opportunities to develop that
