He was in Cardiff today, announcing his economic

?50 million for a cutting-edge scientific research centre

and a commitment to signing a ?1.3 billion "city deal" for Cardiff.

And with Assembly elections around the corner, he's challenged

the Welsh Government to set out their stall.

They say it'll mean cheaper taxis coming to Wales but not everyone

is happy at the introduction in Cardiff of the booking app Uber.

Taxi drivers say they're considering legal action

after the council granted an operators licence.

They say there's not enough work for everyone.

Uber says it'll offer a safe and affordable service.

Already operating in 50 countries around the world,

the Uber taxi app has been a success, the company valued

at over ?31 billion after just six years in existence.

Its introduction to a city is often controversial.

London cabbies protested against it and in Paris things got

Now it's coming to Cardiff so what's the fuss about?

The basic idea behind Uber is a simple one.

Using your smartphone, it links via GPS to the nearest Uber

cab and sends you an estimate of how much the fare will be.

The app tells you how long it will take to get to you,

and gives you informaion on the driver and the car.

With your bank details already registered to the app,

Simply press a button when you arrive at your destination.

Most importantly for passengers, it can often be cheaper

He is angry that Cardiff Council has granted Uber a licence,

especially as the city already has a problem of unlicensed

He says they're considering a legal challenge to the decision.

The Cardiff City Council has proven to be ineffective in enforcing

Despite his opposition, Cardiff Council today issued

the operaators licence and the city's cab drivers

are worried there's not enough business

There are already too many taxis in Cardiff city centre.

As it is, it is a big struggle for taxi drivers to make a living

so Uber coming to Cardiff is going to create a lot of unemployment.

Uber drivers and their cars are subject to normal private hire

licensing laws and a percentage of their fare to Uber.

Cardiff will be the 16th British city to get the service.

It's the public that will decide whether it's successful or not.

Residents in Llanrwst, in the Conwy Valley,

say they're furious a new temporary flood barrier was not assembled

in time to prevent their homes being flooded over Christmas.

The barrier was recently installed to protect homes which had been

flooded several times in the past but it wasn't raised until a number

of houses on Conwy Terrace were already flooded.

Natural Resources Wales says it's investigating why it

When I got to Conwy Terrace, because I also was covering

Station Road and Bridge Street and various other

places that went under, it was obvious the water was over

the barrier and the barrier hadn't been put up.

All the money on this barrier and it wasn't even lifted in time.

It is turning noticeably colder over the next few days,

a mix of bright spells and blustery showers tomorrow.

If we took a look at the map, overnight, windy, dry and clear

Temperatures dropping away and further showers will arrive

Overnight lows of one to five Celsius in towns and cities,

A couple of fronts push in from the Atlantic overnight

Those showers could be wintry on high ground but they'll rattle

through quite quickly on brisk westerly winds.

Those showers lingering across the eastern side of the UK.

A warning in north east Scotland for snow and rain falling

Elsewhere, showers easing, sunny spells developing

Just two Celsius across north west Scotland, still ten in the milder

And a brighter afternoon across Wales.

Just a few showers, feeling fresher in the strong winds,

four Celsius on Anglesey, nine Celsius in Cardiff.

Tomorrow night, the showers start to push in from the west.

Remaining windy along the coast with overnights low of one to seven

Low pressure is in charge on Saturday so turning unsettled

again as this front pushes in from the south west.

Saturday might start dry in the east but showery rain,

heavy at times pushing North eastwards through the day.

Winds picking up too but southerly winds,

Once that front is through, low pressure continues to bring

showers on and off through the weekend.

Looking chillier on Sunday, breezy with a mix of sunny

So often windy this weekend with sunny spells and showers.

Turning noticeably colder by next week with any chance that showers
