Toasting their remarkable breakthrough - scientists | :00:00. | :00:09.
from Cardiff University can finally celebrate. | :00:10. | :00:13.
Their discovery is being hailed as one of the most important | :00:14. | :00:15.
discoveries of this century, bringing a greater | :00:16. | :00:19.
It opens up a new chapter in human understanding of the universe. | :00:20. | :00:32.
It opens up a new way of looking at the universe. | :00:33. | :00:35.
In an exclusive report, we will meet the team at Cardiff who have helped | :00:36. | :00:48.
to transform our understanding of space. | :00:49. | :00:58.
26 party members and candidates sign a petition calling for the leader | :00:59. | :01:05.
More than ?7 million will be invested at Toyota on Deeside, | :01:06. | :01:11.
Across Wales, more than 18,000 people are employed making | :01:12. | :01:18.
I will be finding out what they have to do to win investment. | :01:19. | :01:23.
The number ten named in an unchanged team to face Scotland. | :01:24. | :01:32.
The boys were joking, calling him Lazarus and stuff. | :01:33. | :01:37.
He got through training today and looked sharp. | :01:38. | :01:40.
And Cardiff City set to be debt free by 2021, | :01:41. | :01:43.
according to owner Vincent Tan, who has today backed under-fire | :01:44. | :01:47.
It's been described as one of the greatest breakthroughs | :01:48. | :01:58.
in physics for a century, transforming our understanding | :01:59. | :02:01.
Scientists at Cardiff University have played a key role | :02:02. | :02:07.
in the detection of gravitational waves - | :02:08. | :02:09.
invisible ripples in the fabric of space. | :02:10. | :02:12.
Albert Einstein first came up with the idea and it's hoped they'll | :02:13. | :02:16.
give us a glimpse of the most remote parts of the universe. | :02:17. | :02:20.
A huge experiment in the United States had been searching | :02:21. | :02:23.
for them for decades but it was here in Wales that most | :02:24. | :02:27.
of the data was processed and verified. | :02:28. | :02:30.
Our reporter Steffan Messenger is live from the School of Physics | :02:31. | :02:33.
You can see the university's telescope observatory behind me. | :02:34. | :02:43.
For generations, that's been the traditional way scientists have | :02:44. | :02:46.
But the reason everyone's so excited about this big announcement today | :02:47. | :02:52.
is that it gives us a brand new tool to study the universe | :02:53. | :02:55.
So what are they and why was Cardiff University's role | :02:56. | :03:00.
We were given exclusive access to the team here in Cardiff ahead | :03:01. | :03:05.
This gathering of physicists in Cardiff, one of several taking | :03:06. | :03:13.
place around the world this afternoon. | :03:14. | :03:16.
First, via video link, they heard from Washington. | :03:17. | :03:19.
We have detected gravitational waves. | :03:20. | :03:23.
The focal point of an international search for one of the universe's | :03:24. | :03:28.
First predicted by Einstein a hundred years ago, | :03:29. | :03:34.
gravitational waves are pulses sent out when big things happen | :03:35. | :03:38.
Black holes colliding, for example, or the | :03:39. | :03:43.
They would offer us a glimpse of the furthest and oldest reaches | :03:44. | :03:48.
Studying them could help answer age-old questions like how | :03:49. | :03:53.
So, for decades, a huge experiment in the US has been trying to detect | :03:54. | :04:01.
them, involving some 900 scientists worldwide. | :04:02. | :04:07.
Closer to home, the role a team of researchers in Cardiff had | :04:08. | :04:11.
Cardiff University has been involved in the project since | :04:12. | :04:17.
Our specialty is in modelling the signals that would come | :04:18. | :04:24.
from the collision of black holes and sifting through the data | :04:25. | :04:27.
Sensitive detectors in the US two-miles long were used to pick up | :04:28. | :04:34.
the signals from space, but it was super computers | :04:35. | :04:37.
in Cardiff that helped process the data and ultimately verify that | :04:38. | :04:41.
The team had been working for over a decade, calculating computer | :04:42. | :04:48.
simulations of what they expected to see. | :04:49. | :04:51.
It is much easier to find something if you know | :04:52. | :04:53.
A lot of the analysis was actually done on the computers. | :04:54. | :04:59.
Now I get to tell people about it, it starts to feel real | :05:00. | :05:03.
Scientists say being able to detect gravitational waves will usher | :05:04. | :05:08.
No longer will they have to rely on telescopes like this one to see | :05:09. | :05:14.
There is another side of the universe. | :05:15. | :05:20.
The universe that produces sounds and that is what we are doing | :05:21. | :05:24.
It allows us to listen to the universe in a way that has | :05:25. | :05:29.
So here it is, the sound of a gravitational wave sent out | :05:30. | :05:35.
as two black holes collided a billion light-years from Earth. | :05:36. | :05:40.
It is an echo from the distant past, a fingerprint from the most powerful | :05:41. | :05:44.
Actually seeing exactly the signal we had been calculating | :05:45. | :05:51.
come out of the data, that was incredible. | :05:52. | :05:56.
We spoke with the team 48 hours before the big announcement. | :05:57. | :05:59.
Tonight they are at the various events around the world to mark this | :06:00. | :06:03.
scientific scoop in London, Washington and Geneva. | :06:04. | :06:07.
In Cardiff, there is pride in their achievements. | :06:08. | :06:10.
It is one of the biggest discoveries in astronomy so I was very excited | :06:11. | :06:16.
It is a great example of how international projects | :06:17. | :06:24.
It is great to see Cardiff and Wales at the forefront. | :06:25. | :06:30.
Scientists say proving these waves exist is just the beginning. | :06:31. | :06:33.
It opens up a new window on the universe and we are now | :06:34. | :06:37.
in a position to start looking through it. | :06:38. | :06:45.
Let's explore this a little further with astronomer and broadcaster Dr | :06:46. | :06:53.
Chris North. What does this mean for Wales and Cardiff University, to be | :06:54. | :06:57.
linked to something this big? It is great that we have got researchers | :06:58. | :07:01.
and physicists Link to this international project. Making these | :07:02. | :07:09.
detections, this is the dawn of gravitational astronomy. To be able | :07:10. | :07:13.
to be at the forefront of that research, people in Cardiff looking | :07:14. | :07:16.
at the way we pick up these signals, we are sure to find many more within | :07:17. | :07:22.
months and years. That is going to happen. The team has proved that | :07:23. | :07:27.
this works and they can do it. To see what we can pull out and learn | :07:28. | :07:32.
new physics, learn new astronomy, the surprises that will come from | :07:33. | :07:36.
this, I am really looking forward to. What is next? How soon can we | :07:37. | :07:42.
start to pick up more of these waves and learn new things about the | :07:43. | :07:47.
universe? This is based on the first month of data and there was a | :07:48. | :07:51.
several month run. There may be more to come from the rest of that run. | :07:52. | :07:56.
It is currently off-line and going through another upgrade. They will | :07:57. | :08:01.
be even more sensitive and powerful. It is going to increase by a factor | :08:02. | :08:06.
of three over the next few years and so the results will start coming in | :08:07. | :08:09.
faster and faster and telling us new stuff. Einstein's last great mystery | :08:10. | :08:13.
solved. Back to you. The Toyota engine plant on Deeside | :08:14. | :08:17.
has won ?7 million investment. Its parent company has chosen | :08:18. | :08:19.
the Welsh plant and its 540 workers to make its next generation | :08:20. | :08:22.
of hybrid engines. As our economics correspondent | :08:23. | :08:26.
Sarah Dickins reports, it comes as many Welsh firms making | :08:27. | :08:28.
car parts are benefitting from a buoyant car sector, | :08:29. | :08:31.
but they have to compete hard. Engines of the future on the | :08:32. | :08:47.
production line today but the new generation engines will be in mass | :08:48. | :08:52.
production by the summer. The plant when the ?7 million investment | :08:53. | :08:55.
because it has proved to its bosses in Japan how competitive it is. Back | :08:56. | :09:01.
in 2014 I was one of three people who went to Japan and saw this | :09:02. | :09:06.
engine as a concept. To see where it is now, it is a really good | :09:07. | :09:12.
experience. It means the will to us. This announcement is a financial | :09:13. | :09:16.
investment but also an investment in our future. In the recession, | :09:17. | :09:21.
workers here took a pay cap and it paid off. The Welsh government has | :09:22. | :09:26.
given a grant of ?700,000 and the minister visited the plant to meet | :09:27. | :09:34.
the team. Here, they are helping a company in Ammanford design more | :09:35. | :09:38.
adjustable car seats. For companies in this line of business, the secret | :09:39. | :09:42.
is to be ahead of the game. This company has designed and made this | :09:43. | :09:47.
machine. It will go up the Heads of the Valleys wrote to Tredegar to | :09:48. | :09:51.
make a new style of exhaust. This Company has been so busy in the last | :09:52. | :09:55.
18 months that it's workforce has grown by a third. They have been | :09:56. | :09:59.
very successful in winning contracts. It now accounts for 30% | :10:00. | :10:06.
of the work, the contract with Jaguar in the Midlands. There is a | :10:07. | :10:11.
lot of new innovation in this sector at the moment. New technologies | :10:12. | :10:15.
which might mean new materials, combining things with her tricks, | :10:16. | :10:19.
plastics or nylons. The Ford engine plant has been part of the Welsh | :10:20. | :10:24.
economy for around four decades. It has also got investment for a new | :10:25. | :10:29.
generation of engines. But this year loses the contract to make engines | :10:30. | :10:34.
for Jaguar Land Rover. Across Wales, the automotive centre employs around | :10:35. | :10:43.
18,000 people. There turnover is around ?3.3 billion a year. The new | :10:44. | :10:48.
engines that will be made on the site will be going into cars | :10:49. | :10:54.
assembled in Turkey. For Toyota, hybrid is one of the unique selling | :10:55. | :10:58.
points. They currently account for around 25% of our European sales and | :10:59. | :11:04.
three quarters are made in Europe, here. Assembling whole vehicles has | :11:05. | :11:09.
the greatest impact on economies but Wales has developed a good | :11:10. | :11:12.
reputation for making engines and the benefits it widespread. | :11:13. | :11:15.
An inquest into the death of Cheryl James has heard how | :11:16. | :11:17.
the Army recruit from Llangollen had made comments about shooting herself | :11:18. | :11:20.
Private James was found dead with a bullet wound to her head | :11:21. | :11:24.
at Deepcut Barracks in 1995, amid claims of bullying. | :11:25. | :11:26.
A fellow recruit at the Army training base told the inquest that | :11:27. | :11:29.
Private James had joked about killing herself. | :11:30. | :11:32.
Another described Deepcut as a 'prison camp'. | :11:33. | :11:35.
Ten Welsh courts will close because of cuts | :11:36. | :11:40.
Brecon, Bridgend, Neath, Pontypridd and Wrexham courts | :11:41. | :11:45.
will close completely, while Dolgellau, Holyhead | :11:46. | :11:48.
and Llangefni will close after a new site is found. | :11:49. | :11:51.
Although the Guildhall in Carmarthen will close, | :11:52. | :11:55.
the family and civil court will stay open. | :11:56. | :11:58.
Unions warn the closures will "seriously undermine" public | :11:59. | :12:00.
The Health Minister, Mark Drakeford, has said the UK Government's | :12:01. | :12:07.
decision to impose a new contract on junior doctors in England | :12:08. | :12:10.
is foolish and damaging for patients. | :12:11. | :12:13.
A final offer to unions was rejected earlier this afternoon. | :12:14. | :12:16.
Mark Drakeford said junior doctors would be respected | :12:17. | :12:19.
We will proceed by discussion and negotiation. | :12:20. | :12:24.
That is why we have had no strikes in Wales. | :12:25. | :12:27.
That is how I want things to continue. | :12:28. | :12:29.
We will have negotiations with our junior doctors in Wales | :12:30. | :12:33.
now that the Secretary of State has made what I regard as a foolish | :12:34. | :12:36.
decision and one that is likely to be damaging to patients. | :12:37. | :12:40.
We won't want to see that happening in Wales. | :12:41. | :12:43.
We will continue along the path we have already set ourselves on. | :12:44. | :12:46.
Production is back to normal at the Tata steel plant | :12:47. | :12:50.
in Port Talbot after a fire, thought to be caused | :12:51. | :12:52.
Nobody was injured in the fire in the plant's coke ovens. | :12:53. | :12:57.
Mid and West Wales crews were called to the site after eight o'clock | :12:58. | :13:00.
A row within Ukip has raised its head again tonight | :13:01. | :13:05.
as a petition calling for the party leader in Wales to stand down has | :13:06. | :13:09.
Nathan Gill has been dismissing calls for his resignation, | :13:10. | :13:17.
but 26 party members and candidates have signed the document. | :13:18. | :13:21.
They claim there's no coherent plan to fight the Assembly | :13:22. | :13:23.
election in May and say the leadership is ineffective. | :13:24. | :13:27.
In terms of leadership, he has shown a distinct lack | :13:28. | :13:29.
People have no idea what is going on. | :13:30. | :13:34.
There has been no coherent policy in terms of a strategy | :13:35. | :13:37.
for the election and we are really concerned now because we have got | :13:38. | :13:40.
literally months to go and the election will be upon us | :13:41. | :13:42.
We needed decisive leadership in Wales. | :13:43. | :13:47.
Paul Martin, our political reporter, joins me in the studio. | :13:48. | :13:49.
Paul, not a great day for Nathan Gill again today. | :13:50. | :13:53.
More internal trouble. Most experts agree that party is on the verge of | :13:54. | :14:01.
a big breakthrough at the Assembly election. All this began as a row | :14:02. | :14:06.
over candidate selection and has been rumbling on for months, but as | :14:07. | :14:11.
you heard in the clip, it has become a bit broader. Some activists | :14:12. | :14:15.
questioning Nathan Gill's leadership and the party's strategy for this | :14:16. | :14:21.
Assembly election. There is also a long-running bugbear that many | :14:22. | :14:24.
activists have got and that is the fact Nathan Gill was appointed | :14:25. | :14:28.
leader by Nigel Farage, he was never elected. Where does the party go | :14:29. | :14:34.
from here? There has been a strong defence of Nathan Gill by the party, | :14:35. | :14:39.
saying he has the vast -- support of the vast majority of members in | :14:40. | :14:44.
Wales. There are also questioning the credibility of this petition, | :14:45. | :14:48.
saying it is a tiny proportion of the membership. And saying some are | :14:49. | :14:54.
no longer members. It is all a bit messy. One senior source described | :14:55. | :14:59.
it as silliness. As for what this does for the party's prospects, | :15:00. | :15:07.
Nathan Gill told people will not vote for a party that display but | :15:08. | :15:10.
there is a theory that the Ukip vote is pretty robust. The idea that | :15:11. | :15:15.
people who plans to vote for the party are unlikely to be put off by | :15:16. | :15:20.
these stories of internal rows. It seems that theory is about to be put | :15:21. | :15:22.
to the test. Thank you very much. It's one of the most picturesque | :15:23. | :15:26.
spots along the Ceredigion coast but could the discovery of a secret | :15:27. | :15:30.
tunnel mean it was once With all these rumours | :15:31. | :15:33.
about the building and the smuggling from the beach up to this building, | :15:34. | :15:38.
straightaway I thought, Let's turn to the Six Nations, | :15:39. | :15:40.
and Dan Biggar is the surprise starter in Saturday's | :15:41. | :15:47.
match against Scotland. It's been described by Wales coach | :15:48. | :15:49.
Warren Gatland as a The coaching team initially feared | :15:50. | :15:57.
Biggar could be out for as many But despite injuring his ankle | :15:58. | :16:02.
in Dublin last weekend, the outside-half is part | :16:03. | :16:07.
of an unchanged team, with Gareth Anscombe replacing | :16:08. | :16:09.
Alex Cuthbert on the bench. A sighting of the man nicknamed | :16:10. | :16:13.
Lazarus by his team-mates. The limp was gone and Dan Biggar | :16:14. | :16:17.
entrusted with the number ten He got through training today | :16:18. | :16:21.
and looked sharp so he has worked really hard in terms of his recovery | :16:22. | :16:26.
and stuff and has made So there are no changes to the team | :16:27. | :16:31.
that drew with Ireland in Dublin. The scrum was solid and Rob Evans | :16:32. | :16:37.
will start again, keeping Both locks keep hold | :16:38. | :16:40.
of their jerseys as expected and, despite speculation Dan Lydiate may | :16:41. | :16:46.
return, it is the same back row with two specialised sevens | :16:47. | :16:50.
in Justin Tipuric and Sam Warburton. Wales may be preparing | :16:51. | :16:54.
for a fast and open game at the Principality Stadium, | :16:55. | :16:56.
which will have the roof closed I don't know whether the selection | :16:57. | :17:00.
totally reflects that because Dan Lydiate brings a lot | :17:01. | :17:07.
but you can probably pick any combination of three | :17:08. | :17:11.
and it will still work. I think we are in a very fortunate | :17:12. | :17:15.
situation that we have got a quality Gareth Davies will start again | :17:16. | :17:18.
at nine alongside Dan Biggar and at centre Jon Davies prepares | :17:19. | :17:24.
to win his 50th cap, playing next to Jamie Roberts | :17:25. | :17:27.
who impressed on the Liam Williams, who was brought | :17:28. | :17:30.
in late for the Dublin match, Alex Cuthbert loses out completely | :17:31. | :17:34.
as Gareth Anscombe steps back Scotland have made one forced change | :17:35. | :17:41.
to the team that lost to England on the weekend as Duncan Taylor | :17:42. | :17:47.
comes in for injured They are an improving side | :17:48. | :17:50.
but Scotland have not won It is a good record and it comes | :17:51. | :17:55.
with a bit of pressure. We have got to make sure we don't | :17:56. | :18:00.
slip up and we are The Scottish team in the Pro12 | :18:01. | :18:03.
are getting better all the time and that is going to help | :18:04. | :18:09.
their national team. As they showed in the World Cup, | :18:10. | :18:11.
they are a very good team. Warren Gatland has never lost | :18:12. | :18:14.
to Scotland as coach of Wales and he will be hoping that record | :18:15. | :18:18.
still stands after this weekend. There's one game this | :18:19. | :18:22.
evening in the Pro12. The Dragons, who are two places | :18:23. | :18:25.
from bottom, entertain Connacht, Kick-off is at 7:30pm and there's | :18:26. | :18:29.
full commentary on Radio Wales. The former Wales international | :18:30. | :18:35.
footballer Graham Moore has The Hengoed born player | :18:36. | :18:39.

scoring a last-minute He went on to win 21 caps | :18:46. | :18:49.
for his country and played for several clubs, including | :18:50. | :18:54.

to be debt free by 2021. I am joined by Robert Phillips, our | :19:16. | :19:28.
football correspondent. Great news or is it too good to be true? The | :19:29. | :19:33.
proof in the pudding will be in the eating but, what he has said today, | :19:34. | :19:38.
he will turn ?68 million of the current debt, around ?140 million, | :19:39. | :19:45.
into equity, writing off another ?10 million. They will be left with a | :19:46. | :19:50.
debt of around ?40 million, all to him. He says he will clear that | :19:51. | :19:55.
within five years. It is all part of the financial fate lay. They think | :19:56. | :19:59.
the moves made today will be enough to take them out of the transfer | :20:00. | :20:04.
embargo at the end of this season. He was also keen to back Russell | :20:05. | :20:09.
Slade? He spoke to fans in a question and answer session at the | :20:10. | :20:13.
stadium and he was very keen to say that Russell Slade had done a very | :20:14. | :20:16.
good job in very difficult circumstances. In his words, | :20:17. | :20:22.
clearing up the mess left by other managers. He wanted the fans not | :20:23. | :20:27.
only to get behind the club more but certainly to back Russell Slade | :20:28. | :20:30.
more, believing it is still possible Cardiff could reach the play-offs. | :20:31. | :20:36.
They say it's like selling the family jewels. | :20:37. | :20:39.
Cwmtwrch Rugby Club is putting some of its most precious memorabilia | :20:40. | :20:43.
into auction in a bid to raise funds and secure its future. | :20:44. | :20:46.
Club members hope tens of thousands of pounds will be raised | :20:47. | :20:49.
from the shirts of some of our sporting greats. | :20:50. | :20:52.
For a small valleys club in division three West Central, Cwmtwrch has | :20:53. | :21:08.
been blessed with a wealth of sporting memorabilia down the years. | :21:09. | :21:12.
But like many grassroots clubs in Wales, it is struggling to secure | :21:13. | :21:17.
its future. The many gaps in its display cabinets reflect an attempt | :21:18. | :21:22.
to plug the holes in its finances. It is difficult for smaller clubs to | :21:23. | :21:27.
raise money, from the bar to membership. But it is something we | :21:28. | :21:32.
recognise we have got. The club says it needs to raise around ?100,000 to | :21:33. | :21:37.
upgrade its facilities in the hope of acquiring more silverware so it | :21:38. | :21:40.
has been decided to auction its memorabilia. I think it would be a | :21:41. | :21:46.
big loss. I have had many a conversation with teams all over the | :21:47. | :21:51.
country being amazed at the wealth of jerseys here. From the club to | :21:52. | :21:54.
the auction house, some of the shirts that now form part of a much | :21:55. | :21:58.
larger collection. These are three of the highest value items that have | :21:59. | :22:05.
come from Cwmtwrch. A town FC jersey worn by Phil Bennett during the | :22:06. | :22:08.
season the club beat the all Blacks. -- Llanelli. A Pele shirt when he | :22:09. | :22:15.
played for the Brazilian club Santos. And the yellow shirt worn by | :22:16. | :22:21.
one of the greatest ever riders, Eddie Merck 's. It is believed these | :22:22. | :22:25.
items alone could sell for more than ?25,000. There are considerable | :22:26. | :22:30.
number of southern hemisphere bidders registered, probably looking | :22:31. | :22:38.
at predominantly red bean. We have also got European bidders perhaps | :22:39. | :22:41.
looking at the cycling jersey. It all goes under the hammer tomorrow. | :22:42. | :22:47.
Can some rich sporting history help to provide an even richer future for | :22:48. | :22:50.
grassroots rugby in the Swansea Valley? | :22:51. | :22:53.
The coastal village of New Quay is one of the most picturesque spots | :22:54. | :22:59.
along the Ceredigion coast but was it once | :23:00. | :23:01.
Well, a shopkeeper thinks he's discovered a tunnel which could have | :23:02. | :23:05.
been used for contraband goods in the 17th and 18th centuries. | :23:06. | :23:08.
There is hardly a beach or cove on the Welsh coast that does not | :23:09. | :23:13.
have at least one legend or story about smugglers. | :23:14. | :23:17.
They saw themselves as free traders and, like the pirates, | :23:18. | :23:20.
Now, to add to the legend, David Edwards, a shop owner | :23:21. | :23:28.
in New Quay, believes he's discovered a secret smuggling | :23:29. | :23:31.
passageway from the basement of his shop to the sea. | :23:32. | :23:35.
There is all these rumours about the building and about the smuggling | :23:36. | :23:38.
from the beach up to this building, straightaway I thought, | :23:39. | :23:41.
This tunnel has been cut into the rock face. | :23:42. | :23:47.
It is very narrow but it runs under the shop and under the main road | :23:48. | :23:50.
If we look around the corner, you can see where it is blocked off, | :23:51. | :23:57.
and that would have led to the entrance to the beach. | :23:58. | :24:00.
It is believed this old stone wall behind me covers the entrance | :24:01. | :24:05.
It is here that the smugglers would have brought their contraband | :24:06. | :24:10.
of brandy, salt and sugar, and taken it through the tunnel | :24:11. | :24:13.
In the 18th century, salt smuggling was rife | :24:14. | :24:18.
in Ceredigion, where it was used to preserve bacon and herring, | :24:19. | :24:21.
Costing only half the price in Ireland, there was a busy illegal | :24:22. | :24:26.
Local historian Roger Bryan has written books on New Quay's history | :24:27. | :24:31.
and studied reports from customs officials. | :24:32. | :24:34.
This is a report, August 5th 1704, and the custom officials have been | :24:35. | :24:39.
told that there are three ships in the bay with salt on them. | :24:40. | :24:45.
And so they come down from Aberdovey to check it all out and they run | :24:46. | :24:51.
into on the beach 150 men and 200 horses. | :24:52. | :24:57.
While stories of smugglers are rife, there are sceptics who believe this | :24:58. | :25:01.
tunnel is nothing more than part of New Quay's drainage system | :25:02. | :25:05.
to the sea and has been here for centuries, but David | :25:06. | :25:08.
is convinced he's found an old passageway from the past. | :25:09. | :25:12.
How's the weather looking in New Quay and elsewhere? | :25:13. | :25:15.
It is looking and feeling cold like it should for this time of year. | :25:16. | :25:28.
Tonight we do have some showers and it will be a cloudy night. This is a | :25:29. | :25:33.
satellite picture from earlier. It shows some breaks in the cloud and | :25:34. | :25:38.
we have enjoyed some sunshine today. But showers continuing into tonight. | :25:39. | :25:43.
Some dry weather in between. We could see a touch of frost with some | :25:44. | :25:48.
mist forming. A chilly night as temperatures get down to around one | :25:49. | :25:55.
Celsius. Tomorrow we have got this area of low pressure with this | :25:56. | :25:59.
weather system gathering in the Atlantic. That will bring more | :26:00. | :26:02.
persistent rain tomorrow night into the early hours of Saturday morning. | :26:03. | :26:07.
Tomorrow morning, a chilly start. We have some showers around. Sunshine | :26:08. | :26:12.
much harder to find tomorrow. Temperature might manage a little | :26:13. | :26:17.
bit tomorrow morning. By the afternoon, most of us cloudy and the | :26:18. | :26:20.
temperatures ranging between five and seven Celsius. A few showers | :26:21. | :26:27.
through tomorrow night. By midnight, we will start to see the rain | :26:28. | :26:31.
approaching from the south-west. It will gradually make its way north | :26:32. | :26:37.
and east. It could be wintry at times, especially for the Heads of | :26:38. | :26:40.
the Valleys and the Brecon Beacons. Temperatures getting down to around | :26:41. | :26:47.
two Celsius. Behind this low pressure, the rain will clear but it | :26:48. | :26:51.
will feel pretty chilly. First thing on Saturday morning, a wet start. We | :26:52. | :26:57.
have got that band of rain, sleet and snow. It will ease and we will | :26:58. | :27:01.
see few showers. You will need to wrap up warm if you are heading out. | :27:02. | :27:08.
And then we go into Sunday, a better day in terms of dry weather. We can | :27:09. | :27:13.
look forward to plenty of sunshine by the time we get a mandate but it | :27:14. | :27:14.
will feel warm. After decades of international | :27:15. | :27:25.
research, scientists at Cardiff University celebrate their role in | :27:26. | :27:29.
the detection of gravitational waves, described as one of the | :27:30. | :27:32.
greatest breakthroughs in physics for a century. Most of the data was | :27:33. | :27:35.
processed and verified in Wales. We'll have an update for you at 8pm | :27:36. | :27:38.
and more after the BBC News at 10pm. But for now, from all | :27:39. | :27:42.
of us on the programme, | :27:43. | :27:45. |
