The Ministry of Defence says it'll spend ?372 million

:00:10.:00:14.

on maintaining its Hawk fast-jet training aircraft,

:00:15.:00:18.

securing more than 470 jobs at RAF Valley on Anglesey.

:00:19.:00:21.

The armed forces use the fleet for military flying training.

:00:22.:00:26.

It's where almost all British fighter pilots come to train.

:00:27.:00:35.

The people flying these aircraft at RAF Valley could one day be

:00:36.:00:38.

carrying out a strikes over Iraq or Syria.

:00:39.:00:43.

And these are the Hawk jet planes they used to learn their skills.

:00:44.:00:47.

Today the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Hawks will be

:00:48.:00:51.

Contracts worth over ?300 million have been awarded to maintain

:00:52.:00:57.

the planes and their engines, and to design and build

:00:58.:01:00.

Those contracts mean jobs, over 470 people work here at RAF

:01:01.:01:06.

Valley maintaining and servicing the Hawks.

:01:07.:01:11.

The announcement does not necessarily mean new jobs,

:01:12.:01:13.

but business as usual for tjhose already working

:01:14.:01:15.

It also means business as usual for those companies on Anglesey

:01:16.:01:23.

and further afield to supply RAF Valley with everything from catering

:01:24.:01:26.

Although it is a military facility it is of vital

:01:27.:01:31.

It offers high-quality employment, and creates disposable income

:01:32.:01:37.

which is distributed and spent across the island.

:01:38.:01:42.

RAF Valley is still one of the largest employers on Anglesey.

:01:43.:01:45.

There were threats of job losses are to be end of last year,

:01:46.:01:50.

but the Ministry of Defence confirmed in February that it

:01:51.:01:54.

will remain the fast jet training base until at least 2033.

:01:55.:01:58.

Officials say today's announcement makes the future even more secure.

:01:59.:02:03.

The delegation from the Welsh steel industry has just ended preliminary

:02:04.:02:06.

talks with Tata Steel officials in Mumbai,

:02:07.:02:07.

ahead of the TATA board meeting tomorrow to discuss the future

:02:08.:02:13.

Union representatives, steel workers, and the Aberavon MP,

:02:14.:02:19.

Stephen Kinnock, met in India at the company's headquarters.

:02:20.:02:24.

More than 700 job losses were announced at Port Talbot in January.

:02:25.:02:31.

Stephen Kinnock has been speaking to us by Skype in the last few

:02:32.:02:34.

We've come here resolute and determined to make that case.

:02:35.:02:38.

We did that today and will continue to do that tomorrow

:02:39.:02:40.

So at the moment we're not thinking too much

:02:41.:02:50.

We are really focused on ensuring that the board looks at the plan

:02:51.:02:55.

A five-year-old boy and his grandmother were among four people

:02:56.:03:00.

who died following a two-car crash on the A470 in Powys.

:03:01.:03:03.

The crash happened on Friday, between Rhayader and the Llangurig

:03:04.:03:05.

Five-year-old Ned Jones and his grandmother,

:03:06.:03:08.

Margaretta Jones, from Capel Bangor, near Aberystwyth were in one

:03:09.:03:10.

Two passengers in the other car, Vida Alford and Gillian Alford,

:03:11.:03:14.

Football, Wales take on Ukraine in Kiev tonight.

:03:15.:03:24.

It's last friendly before Manager Chris Coleman

:03:25.:03:26.

names his squad for the European Championships this summer.

:03:27.:03:28.

Coleman, who's again without Gareth Bale

:03:29.:03:30.

and Aaron Ramsey, says he expects a tough match

:03:31.:03:33.

Chris Coleman admits taking a relatively inexperienced side

:03:34.:03:43.

Ukraine have also qualified for the European Championships,

:03:44.:03:49.

and have lost only two of their last 15 matches.

:03:50.:03:54.

They'll smell fear on you if you've got it.

:03:55.:03:56.

You will a lot more from games like this than when you are playing

:03:57.:04:03.

at home in the sunshine and you were four or five nil up,

:04:04.:04:06.

Simon Church earned a draw against Northern Ireland last week,

:04:07.:04:10.

several players were given a chance to impress,

:04:11.:04:12.

all wanting to be part of wheels's plans this summer.

:04:13.:04:16.

The squad will be whoever the manager picks.

:04:17.:04:18.

There are probably 30 players who think they have a chance to get

:04:19.:04:23.

Despite missing key players Gareth Bail and Aaron Ramsey fans

:04:24.:04:29.

who made the 1500 mile journey to Kiev in a positive mood.

:04:30.:04:35.

In a way, I'm glad they're not playing these friendlies.

:04:36.:04:41.

I think Emyr Huws is one for the future as well.

:04:42.:04:47.

That result would please Chris Coleman who will now need

:04:48.:04:55.

to whittle the squad down to 23 players before the finals in France.

:04:56.:05:02.

Staying with football, Newport lost at home

:05:03.:05:03.

In the National League, Wrexham are beating leaders

:05:04.:05:11.

Cheltenham 1-nil, Javan Vidal scored the goal.

:05:12.:05:13.

Let's see what the weather has in store, Sue Charles

:05:14.:05:16.

Wales missed the worst of Storm Katie but we still have

:05:17.:05:20.

some strong gusts particularly in North West Wales.

:05:21.:05:23.

Frank Moore took this picture in the hills around Newtown earlier.

:05:24.:05:35.

We see blustery wintry showers at some point tomorrow.

:05:36.:05:37.

It is dry for a time but more showers push in overnight.

:05:38.:05:43.

Some wintry and frosty patches in central rural spots.

:05:44.:05:48.

Some sunny spells and showers in the morning pushing

:05:49.:05:53.

Those showers are heavy at times from the South West.

:05:54.:05:58.

Sunny spells between the showers, highs of eight Celsius in

:05:59.:06:04.

Wednesday looks fine, dry with sunny spells

:06:05.:06:09.

Then high pressure built into Thursday bringing quieter,

:06:10.:06:16.

Thank you for watching from all of us on the programme good evening.

:06:17.:06:31.

north-western parts overnight. The wind strengthening across Shetland

:06:32.:06:37.

and larger wind across the main event put up with gutsy frost in

:06:38.:06:41.

some rural parts as temperatures fall close to freezing in the
