A senior figure in motorsport says the industry is sceptical

about locating the proposed Circuit of Wales racetrack in Ebbw Vale.

Last week, the Welsh Government decided not to underwrite

?350 million worth of private funding for the project.

But developers are hopeful a new deal will proceed.

Rebecca John reports.

It's events like the MotoGP which the team behind the planned

Circuit of Wales racetrack hope will still come to Ebbw Vale.

The Heads of the Valleys Development Company,

which runs the Circuit of Wales, says up to 6,000 jobs could be

created by the project.

But a director of a motor circuit owners' group, who also runs

the Donington Park Circuit, told BBC Wales there's scepticism

in the industry about those figures and the proposed location.

The British motorsport industry is very much focused

on what they called motorsport value, running approximately

from Oxford up in a loop through Northamptonshire

towards Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

Now, in that area lie 50,000 jobs and they're

all a little bit interdependent.

The point being that they are close to each other.

So it doesn't matter of someone had suggested that a new motor racing

track be built in Cornwall or in Aberdeen or in Ebbw Vale,

it would still have been well outside the natural conglomeration

of these industries.

The Circuit of Wales has been contacted for a response.

Three days ago the Welsh Government said it could not underwrite

the ?350 million of private funding from the insurance company Aviva.

Now a new proposal is on the table which keeps the Aviva investment,

but reduces the risk to the Welsh Government.

Developers hope, if it's agreed, that this new deal could proceed

within eight weeks.

The Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has urged China to accelerate

efforts to reduce levels of steel production during a meeting

with his counterpart in Beijing.

Steel dumping is considered a factor in Tata's decision to sell its UK

business including Port Talbot.

Steelworkers were given a standing ovation as they paraded a banner

And the National League play-offs are looking less likely for Wrexham

Welsh triathlete Helen Jenkins has strengthened her case to be selected

for the Rio Olympics after winning the Gold Coast World Series

event in Australia.

The 32-year-old from Bridgend is hoping to join fellow Welsh

athlete Non Stanford in the squad, which is named in June.
