Our top stories: Clashes over the NHS in tonights' party leader's | :00:00. | :00:07.
debate - with a week to go before polling day we'll | :00:08. | :00:10.
The UK Government says its financial support for a Tata buyer isn't | :00:11. | :00:16.
And 100 days to Rio - but we hear there'll be fewer | :00:17. | :00:23.
Welsh athletes in Team GB than four years ago. | :00:24. | :00:43.
The leaders of the main parties at the assembly have clashed over | :00:44. | :00:48.
health in the final live television debate, | :00:49. | :00:49.
First Minister Carwyn Jones said Labour ministers were spending | :00:50. | :00:54.
a bigger share of their budget on the NHS than ever. | :00:55. | :00:58.
But rival parties attacked Labour's 17-year health record | :00:59. | :01:00.
presenting their alternative visions for the service. | :01:01. | :01:02.
Our political editor, Nick Servini, was watching. | :01:03. | :01:15.
With a week to go until polling day, the leaders of the six main parties | :01:16. | :01:20.
lined up against each other at Saint Davids Hall in Cardiff. The NHS was | :01:21. | :01:27.
the first issue raised. But of the debate focused on the question of | :01:28. | :01:31.
whether there should be a cancer drugs firms, sparked by this | :01:32. | :01:39.
emotional question. We are lagging behind England and there are drug | :01:40. | :01:43.
treatments that you can have across the border that you cannot have in | :01:44. | :01:48.
this country. There are people right now in bed who are ill and would be | :01:49. | :01:52.
better off in England. When I voted for devolution, I did not expect to | :01:53. | :01:57.
have second-rate health care... Labour leader Carwyn Jones responded | :01:58. | :02:02.
with the reference to Labour's plan to bring in a specialist on to cover | :02:03. | :02:07.
all conditions, which prompted this from the leader of the Welsh | :02:08. | :02:10.
Conservatives, who went on the attack. Patients have gone from | :02:11. | :02:16.
Wales to England to get those treatments, as the lady identified. | :02:17. | :02:19.
One in three of us will have a episode of cancer, going down to one | :02:20. | :02:26.
into. We have championed a cancer drugs and here in Wales and we want | :02:27. | :02:30.
to expand that into a cancer treatment plan that will cover from | :02:31. | :02:34.
diagnostic into drug availability but you cannot brush it under the | :02:35. | :02:40.
carpet, Carwyn Jones. You haven't made the improvements. | :02:41. | :02:45.
Carwyn Jones and the pride with macro Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood | :02:46. | :02:50.
-- and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood then clashed. | :02:51. | :02:56.
I would rather spend money on patients... | :02:57. | :03:00.
We want the health minister to be responsible... We want the health | :03:01. | :03:03.
minister to be responsible for health and we want the government to | :03:04. | :03:06.
take responsibility and stop being in denial for the top it is | :03:07. | :03:10.
democratic responsibility, that you have abdicated. | :03:11. | :03:15.
Where would it be based? What do you mean where would it be based? Is the | :03:16. | :03:22.
NHS, it is all over Wales. On the economy the issue moved on to | :03:23. | :03:26.
the steel crisis, in which the Green party outlined how alternative | :03:27. | :03:32.
models should be looked at. You guys in your community could own that | :03:33. | :03:35.
plant and you could be in charge of what your own job is. And the | :03:36. | :03:43.
sustainability of that job relies on the fact we could create a renewable | :03:44. | :03:48.
economy in Wales and use that deal. There is a huge opportunity in Wales | :03:49. | :03:53.
to build up our renewable infrastructure and use that steel in | :03:54. | :03:56.
Wales and create many more jobs. Then plans for an M4 relief road in | :03:57. | :04:00.
Newport came up and whether a ?1 billion motorway should be built. | :04:01. | :04:04.
Kirsty Williams for the Liberal Democrats said the investment should | :04:05. | :04:10.
be spread out further across Wales. If we are to have infrastructure | :04:11. | :04:14.
that is for the whole of Wales, you don't blow the entire budget on one | :04:15. | :04:18.
road in one section of Wales and we have to look at a fair distribution | :04:19. | :04:24.
of resources. We have to look at the transport solutions both here in the | :04:25. | :04:29.
South Southeast and also looking at the feasibility of opening up the | :04:30. | :04:35.
Aberystwyth to Carmarthen landfills top Nathan Gill for Ukip defended | :04:36. | :04:40.
his party policy to reintroduce grammar schools. | :04:41. | :04:50.
Pushing us all into the one size fits all system, if it worked, why | :04:51. | :04:55.
are we behind Estonia in the user tables? It doesn't work. You have | :04:56. | :04:59.
been doing it for 17 years and it doesn't work and in England, where | :05:00. | :05:03.
they still have grammar schools, they are the ones that the parents | :05:04. | :05:07.
want their children to go to. And with that, the last set piece | :05:08. | :05:12.
event of the campaign came to an end as we enter the final week of the | :05:13. | :05:14.
as we enter the final week of the campaign. | :05:15. | :05:16.
Nick what did we learn from the debate? | :05:17. | :05:19.
Well, the opposition party certainly wanted the big debates tonight on | :05:20. | :05:26.
the state of the NHS in Wales and I think they got that. The tone was | :05:27. | :05:31.
set by Carwyn Jones early on in his opening statement. He didn't mention | :05:32. | :05:35.
the steelworks, talked about the NHS and mentioned the junior doctors | :05:36. | :05:39.
like in England as evidence of a system that works in Wales. Andrew | :05:40. | :05:44.
RT Davies was pretty aggressive early on, trying to land blows on | :05:45. | :05:47.
that highly charged subject of the Cancer Drugs Fund. It is very | :05:48. | :05:54.
different from the leaders debate last week, were in effect the | :05:55. | :05:58.
opposition parties were ganging up against Carwyn Jones. This had a | :05:59. | :06:02.
more broken up feel about it with different browser eking out in | :06:03. | :06:07.
different places. It was striking that Carwyn Jones was focused more | :06:08. | :06:11.
on his criticism not on the Conservatives but an Plaid Cymru. | :06:12. | :06:15.
Not just on the NHS but on university tuition fees funding. | :06:16. | :06:19.
Leanne Wood got fed up at one stage, accusing Carwyn Jones of | :06:20. | :06:25.
misrepresenting her party. Ukip very much talked about the issue of the | :06:26. | :06:30.
EU, which they haven't done in the past. Inevitably, all parties are | :06:31. | :06:32.
claiming victory but it will be up to us to decide. | :06:33. | :06:37.
The rest of the day's news now - and the UK government is NOT | :06:38. | :06:40.
offering financial support to Tata, to encourage it to keep | :06:41. | :06:42.
hold of its operations, including Port Talbot. | :06:43. | :06:44.
The Business Department has confirmed to BBC Wales | :06:45. | :06:46.
that its co-investment offer of taking a 25% stake | :06:47. | :06:48.
in the company is only available to buyers. | :06:49. | :06:52.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, says there's "no | :06:53. | :06:53.
guarantee" that government efforts to save the British steel industry | :06:54. | :06:56.
will be successful but it's doing everything it can. | :06:57. | :07:06.
While we want to do everything we can to secure the future not only | :07:07. | :07:13.
for Port Talbot but also for Scunthorpe and deal-making in | :07:14. | :07:17.
Britain, we are coping with a massive oversupply and collapse in | :07:18. | :07:20.
prices from China, so we must do everything we can and there is no | :07:21. | :07:25.
guarantee of success but we want to get on with it and we can success. | :07:26. | :07:29.
A Wrexham-based football club has said it's severed | :07:30. | :07:31.
all ties with a player, over remarks he made on Twitter | :07:32. | :07:33.
26-year-old Jonny Taylor, who played for Gresford Athletic, | :07:34. | :07:36.
retweeted a comment about fans' behaviour, | :07:37. | :07:38.
The club says it does not condone the views, | :07:39. | :07:44.
and wants to distance itself from the comments. | :07:45. | :07:46.
The inquests concluded that the 96 fans were unlawfully killed. | :07:47. | :07:52.
Traders in Flintshire say they're losing business, | :07:53. | :07:54.
Delays mean improvement work in Queensferry has been | :07:55. | :07:57.
Business owners say they've had little communication from | :07:58. | :08:02.
the council about the disruption but it says access to businesses | :08:03. | :08:05.
and properties WILL be maintained throughout, | :08:06. | :08:06.
and will hold a public meeting tomorrow. | :08:07. | :08:13.
A second beach has been declared smoke-free in Wales. | :08:14. | :08:15.
Swansea council chose Caswell Bay to trial its voluntary smoking ban, | :08:16. | :08:18.
Little Haven in Pembrokeshire became the UK's first beach to be declared | :08:19. | :08:22.
100 days before the start of the Olympic Games, the Director | :08:23. | :08:31.
of Elite Sports Performance in Wales says there will be fewer Welsh | :08:32. | :08:34.
athletes in Rio this summer compared to the representation in London. | :08:35. | :08:37.
30 from Wales were part of team GB four years ago. | :08:38. | :08:42.
But Brian Davies believes those in the team now will have a genuine | :08:43. | :08:47.
chance of returning with a medal, as Iwan Griffiths reports. | :08:48. | :08:54.
With 100 days to go, the Welsh Olympic class of 2016 | :08:55. | :08:56.
So far sailor Hannah Mills has secured her place, Elena Allen is | :08:57. | :09:05.
He will be the only Welsh boxer on the plane as Non | :09:06. | :09:11.
Stanford and Helen Jenkins both aim to take triathlon gold this summer. | :09:12. | :09:16.
Four swimmers from Wales - Jazz Carlin, Georgia Davies, | :09:17. | :09:18.
Chloe Turton and Ieuan Lloyd have also claimed the | :09:19. | :09:20.
places and having lost out on the 2012 Olympic dream, | :09:21. | :09:24.
for experienced athlete Jazz Carlin, making Team GB | :09:25. | :09:30.
The 25-year-old who finally secured a | :09:31. | :09:38.
place earlier this month has been striking the official Olympic | :09:39. | :09:41.
I have still got my head in the clouds and it hasn't | :09:42. | :09:49.
It is an incredible feeling and I can't wait for the next few | :09:50. | :09:54.
Originally from Llanwrtyd Wells, Natalie Powell is on the cusp | :09:55. | :09:59.
of making the team but she still needs to gain the crucial points to | :10:00. | :10:02.
There are three competitions left now in the | :10:03. | :10:06.
qualification period so I've just got to concentrate on them and put | :10:07. | :10:09.
in a good performance and I think if I perform | :10:10. | :10:11.
my best in all three of | :10:12. | :10:13.
What would a place in Rio mean to you? | :10:14. | :10:18.
It would mean everything to go to Rio. | :10:19. | :10:19.
Everything I have done in the last four years | :10:20. | :10:22.
has been tailored to that so it would be the icing on the cake and I | :10:23. | :10:25.
Fears the athletes from Wales are part of the | :10:26. | :10:36.
team in London four years ago, contributing seven medals. | :10:37. | :10:38.
With nine names confirmed, is the aim to beat | :10:39. | :10:40.
London was a special case in that it was a home | :10:41. | :10:47.
games, which meant there were host nation places which we | :10:48. | :10:49.
Everyone who is going to Rio has had to earn | :10:50. | :10:53.
that through quota systems, competitions. | :10:54. | :10:54.
The next announcement will be the rowing team, due on the | :10:55. | :10:57.
9th of June, with the likes of Victoria Thornley from St Asaph and | :10:58. | :11:00.
Chris Barclay from Wrexham set to get the nod, as Wales add more | :11:01. | :11:03.
Temperatures are dropping it into the night, with some frost. We have | :11:04. | :11:19.
had hail and snow in some places today. A couple of funnel clouds | :11:20. | :11:25.
like this one. Much of the country dry and clear tonight with a | :11:26. | :11:30.
widespread frost. Maybe a few showers in mid and North Wales later | :11:31. | :11:35.
on. These are wintry later on. Temperatures in Powys minus three. | :11:36. | :11:42.
Some frost first thing with a few showers dotted around. Wintry in | :11:43. | :11:45.
places. Clearing later in the morning, leaving many places dry and | :11:46. | :11:52.
right. Across the rest of the UK, in a lot of places dry with a couple of | :11:53. | :11:57.
showers in England. In the north-west, low pressure brings rain | :11:58. | :11:59.
to Northern Ireland, spreading further east. Snow in parts of | :12:00. | :12:04.
Scotland and northern England on the hills. The wind picking up, | :12:05. | :12:07.
particularly in the north-west through the Irish Sea with a high of | :12:08. | :12:11.
10 Celsius in Birmingham. Tomorrow afternoon dry and bright to start | :12:12. | :12:17.
within Wales but it won't last. Rain spreading from the West with wind | :12:18. | :12:20.
picking up with a high of nine Celsius. Breezy with outbreaks of | :12:21. | :12:26.
rain. This will clear overnight with a few showers following into the | :12:27. | :12:31.
North and mid Wales. A breezy and windy night with temperatures | :12:32. | :12:34.
staying above freezing. Friday a breezy day with a few showers, | :12:35. | :12:39.
wintry on high ground this tops and drier bright weather in the south | :12:40. | :12:42.
especially with most of the showers in the North. Then it is looking | :12:43. | :12:46.
very mixed for the bank holiday weekend. Sunshine and showers are | :12:47. | :12:52.
some rain and becoming windy. It is looking like Saturday will be the | :12:53. | :12:54.
best day and turning milder with temperatures rising as high as 12 | :12:55. | :12:57.
Celsius for top see you soon. Before I go, here's Jamie | :12:58. | :13:04.
