Tata Steel's possible merger with a German steel giant could be

the "death knell" of the industry - and lead to job losses here -

The those workers who hope the future of the plans would come

clearer I likely to be disappointed. The previous process looks abandoned

and the company is shifting direction. It seems they were not

impressed with the bid put forward by the potential buyers. They are

keeping the door open to further bids but they seem to be focused on

operating 670 businesses worldwide. The steel operations employ 70,000

workers. The UK Government welcomed the move. It could be the death

knell because what is driving the rationale is a desire for

consolidation, ripping capacity out of the steel industry, meaning job

losses. They are calling for the UK Government to renationalise the

industry and restart the seal progress. Councillor Tony Taylor was

a steelworker here for 40 years. He said the uncertainty is having an

impact on lives. People are going for mortgages and as soon as they do

that, they are turned down. This is unprecedented. Steelworkers marched

earlier. They are making sure that I behave responsibly. The company

argue that is exactly what they are trying to do. Increasingly

frustrated union members and politicians might take some

convincing. The publicity Wales gained

from the national team's performance at Euro 2016 could NEVER

have been bought - The players received a heroes'

welcome in Cardiff yesterday, They say all good things must come

to an end and on Friday night, Chris Coleman's men arrived in Cardiff to

a heroes welcome. But there might be yet more Welsh success. The

Secretary of State for Wales has followed all the action, kicking

every ball. He believes what the players have achieved is priceless.

Even if I asked for millions we could never have bought this sort of

publicity. This really has put wheels on the map, the ? football

should never be understated. They are already looking to build on the

heroics. This promotional video was broadcast in Germany. There has been

a marked interest. The challenge for us is to convert that into an actual

visit. It may be impossible to properly measure what the success

means for Wales. But after 58 years in the wilderness, is it not welcome

enough that these things are being discussed at all?
