Welcome to Wales Today - our top stories.

:00:00.:00:00.

Amina Al-Jeffrey from Swansea claims she's being held against her will

:00:00.:00:08.

Now her MP calls for "immediate action" from the Foreign Secretary.

:00:09.:00:17.

And drug addicts' needles - in the middle of the town centre.

:00:18.:00:20.

Now Wrexham clamps down on anti-social behaviour.

:00:21.:00:36.

A Swansea MP has written to the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson,

:00:37.:00:41.

demanding immediate action in the case of Amina Al- Jeffrey -

:00:42.:00:44.

the 21-year-old woman from the city who says she's being kept

:00:45.:00:47.

Miss al-Jeffrey says she's being imprisoned by her father

:00:48.:00:54.

there, without food or water - allegations he denies.

:00:55.:00:58.

Tonight - the MP Geraint Davies says the UK Government must take action

:00:59.:01:02.

This is 21-year-old Amina al-Jeffrey.

:01:03.:01:10.

She claims to have been locked up against her will by her

:01:11.:01:13.

Behind her, the cage she says she has been kept in.

:01:14.:01:21.

The High Court in London has heard evidence from Amina

:01:22.:01:23.

al-Jeffrey's lawyers and those representing her father,

:01:24.:01:26.

But Swansea West MP Mr Davies says he is writing

:01:27.:01:33.

to the Foreign Secretary calling for the UK Government to do

:01:34.:01:36.

I'm asking the Foreign Secretary to verify the evidence that she is

:01:37.:01:41.

being constrained against her will, if that is the case,

:01:42.:01:44.

to ensure that as a 21-year-old British citizen, she is allowed

:01:45.:01:49.

to return back to Britain and he takes all necessary

:01:50.:01:54.

steps to ensure the Saudi Government ensures that.

:01:55.:01:57.

This was Amina al-Jeffrey aged 16, a former pupil

:01:58.:02:00.

It is understood she was taken to Saudi Arabia by her father more

:02:01.:02:05.

He claims he took her here to Jeddah in order to save her life.

:02:06.:02:13.

He claims her daughter was not doing well at school and had been taking

:02:14.:02:17.

drugs and going to clubs and spending time with older men.

:02:18.:02:22.

Last October, Amina al-Jeffrey got in touch with friends,

:02:23.:02:26.

In an interview with this programme, one of those friends,

:02:27.:02:31.

who wished to remain anonymous, said she had managed to get hold

:02:32.:02:34.

The French showed me messages sent to them on Facebook.

:02:35.:02:46.

In them, she says she has been locked up in solitary confinement

:02:47.:02:49.

She said her family has her under constant surveillance.

:02:50.:02:53.

And that if they get suspicious about seeking help,

:02:54.:02:55.

Her friend told me she had asked them to contact the British Embassy,

:02:56.:02:59.

but in December last year, the messages stopped.

:03:00.:03:02.

One expert on race relations believes this case highlights

:03:03.:03:05.

the tension that can arise between two very

:03:06.:03:07.

These children have every right to live in the United Kingdom,

:03:08.:03:16.

where they were born, and to take them away

:03:17.:03:18.

from that situation is not going to help the individual.

:03:19.:03:27.

The Foreign Office says it has been providing assistance to Amina

:03:28.:03:30.

al-Jeffrey in Saudi Arabia as part of an ongoing legal process

:03:31.:03:34.

and that it will respond to Mr Davies letter in due course.

:03:35.:03:38.

It has been described in court as an important and difficult case.

:03:39.:03:42.

Mr Justice Harman is expected to make a decision at

:03:43.:03:45.

UKIP's leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, may be forced to leave the party,

:03:46.:03:53.

because of concerns over him double jobbing, as an MEP

:03:54.:03:57.

The party's National Executive Committee voted to remove him -

:03:58.:04:03.

unless he resigns from one of his elected positions,

:04:04.:04:05.

a decision that he's described as "undemocratic" and "baseless."

:04:06.:04:08.

But UKIP's leader in the Assembly says Mr Gill has a choice to make.

:04:09.:04:22.

You can't do two jobs properly, so he has to choose one

:04:23.:04:25.

or the other if he wants to stay as an MEP, fine.

:04:26.:04:28.

I need someone who is one of committed to the assembly

:04:29.:04:33.

in Cardiff on to the interests of the people of Wales.

:04:34.:04:35.

A drive to almost double the number of Welsh speakers to a million

:04:36.:04:38.

by 2050 has been unveiled by the first minister

:04:39.:04:40.

Carwyn Jones stressed the workplace, family, schools and the planning

:04:41.:04:44.

But Plaid Cymru called the announcement "another

:04:45.:04:47.

An increase in reports of drunkenness, fighting and drug

:04:48.:04:51.

abuse in the last year - now Wrexham Council has introduced

:04:52.:04:54.

new powers to combat anti-social behaviour in the town.

:04:55.:04:58.

Council leaders say they hope the move will encourage people

:04:59.:05:01.

with problems to seek professional help, rather than

:05:02.:05:03.

It was busy enough and there was little sign of the kind of behaviour

:05:04.:05:14.

Popular with young families, but there have been

:05:15.:05:19.

It is included in the area covered by the restrictions.

:05:20.:05:26.

I found Barry Roberts and his friend Samantha Adams, both homeless.

:05:27.:05:31.

They stay in a night shelter when they can, they told me.

:05:32.:05:34.

You had to queue up every night and it get picked out of a hat

:05:35.:05:37.

and if you get picked out, you have two leaves so it is not

:05:38.:05:41.

guaranteed that you will get a nightmare and the rest of the time

:05:42.:05:44.

you have been sleeping in bushes and stuff.

:05:45.:05:47.

What have you been told about this new public order?

:05:48.:05:50.

That people are getting moved on for drinking and things

:05:51.:05:54.

But fair are not, some people do feel intimidated.

:05:55.:06:09.

It is not good for them to see, is it?

:06:10.:06:12.

I am all right on my own, but when the kids around,

:06:13.:06:16.

On the other side of town, again within the area

:06:17.:06:20.

affected by the new powers, there was this.

:06:21.:06:21.

It was clear people were sleeping out here.

:06:22.:06:23.

And just now, there is evidence of a makeshift tent,

:06:24.:06:26.

but it isn't just rough sleeping on the ground.

:06:27.:06:28.

There is evidence of drug-taking as well.

:06:29.:06:30.

Used syringes and syringe wrappers and we are just yards

:06:31.:06:32.

The council hopes to create a no-go area for what it considers

:06:33.:06:36.

In the first instance, people with problems will be pointed

:06:37.:06:41.

Fines of up to ?100 and the court or a last resort.

:06:42.:06:48.

It is about enabling these people to improve their quality of life

:06:49.:06:52.

so that the people who go about their law-abiding business

:06:53.:06:56.

in the town centre, the visitors, the shoppers, can do that

:06:57.:06:59.

without fear of being intimidated by people who are under

:07:00.:07:02.

The services in the middle of Wrexham town centre

:07:03.:07:08.

and what this order does, basically, it puts people out

:07:09.:07:17.

to the periphery so I wouldn't agree that this does help them

:07:18.:07:19.

I think it makes them harder for them to access the services.

:07:20.:07:23.

Wrexham council insists it doesn't simply want to pose problems

:07:24.:07:26.

And according to the authority these orders have been

:07:27.:07:35.

The way it is implemented is the key.

:07:36.:07:37.

Cwm Taf University Health Board has launched a social media and TV

:07:38.:07:40.

campaign to attract nursing staff, with nine of them appearing

:07:41.:07:43.

in videos as ambassadors to promote their profession.

:07:44.:07:45.

The Royal College of Nursing says Wales needs 3500 more

:07:46.:07:47.

First day of August - Derek has the monsoon forecast.

:07:48.:08:00.

That just about sums it up. Forget summer, it is more like November at

:08:01.:08:09.

the moment. So they in Swansea. Parts of south Wales have had more

:08:10.:08:14.

rain today than the whole of July. Over an inch of rain in places. More

:08:15.:08:19.

rain to come tonight. The heaviest in the south will turn lighter later

:08:20.:08:26.

on. Drier on the north coast and a mild night. Lowest temperatures only

:08:27.:08:32.

12-17dC. Tomorrow morning is dull and damp for most of us. Mist and

:08:33.:08:39.

hill fog, poor visibility. The north and east should become dry later in

:08:40.:08:44.

the morning. The rest of the UK, patchy rain and drizzle will spread

:08:45.:08:49.

north-east during the day across Northern Ireland and reaching the

:08:50.:08:53.

South West of Scotland later on. Parts of the Midlands and southern

:08:54.:08:57.

England may dry up. The best sunshine in the North of Scotland.

:08:58.:09:03.

Wales tomorrow afternoon, a few spots of mist and drizzly rain. Some

:09:04.:09:08.

drier weather particularly to the north and east of high ground. Maybe

:09:09.:09:12.

a little sunshine. It will feel mucky tomorrow where it brightens

:09:13.:09:20.

up. 21 Celsius. After weather tomorrow in Abergavenny. Drier today

:09:21.:09:27.

and feeling humid. Low pressure on the doorstep on Wednesday. Stronger

:09:28.:09:34.

winds. Some dry and bright weather. Showers moving through on the gusty

:09:35.:09:40.

winds. Sunshine and scattered showers on Thursday. One or two

:09:41.:09:44.

heavy showers but you might miss them. Better weather for the end of

:09:45.:09:50.

the week. Drier on Friday with more sunshine. A little light at the end

:09:51.:09:56.

of the tunnel. We are back from six o'clock tomorrow morning. Thank you

:09:57.:09:58.

for watching. Good night.
