After hundreds of thousands of pounds from the Welsh Government, | :00:00. | :00:08.

And the family of Miriam Briddon from Ceredigion - | :00:19. | :00:20.
who was killed by a drink-driver - are in Downing Street, | :00:21. | :00:22.
An engineering company based at Pembroke Dock has | :00:23. | :00:44.
Main Port Engineering opened a new manufacturing site last March, | :00:45. | :00:48.
with support worth ?650,000 from the Welsh Government. | :00:49. | :00:53.
The aim was to create 30 jobs and safeguard | :00:54. | :00:55.
David Grundy joins us from our Carmarthen newsroom now. | :00:56. | :00:59.
Well, Lucy, Main Port Engineering has been a significant employer in | :01:00. | :01:18.
West Wales for over 25 years. The company provides engineering | :01:19. | :01:21.
services to the chemical, power and water treatments industries. The | :01:22. | :01:26.
company's new building opened in June at the cost of ?1.8 million. | :01:27. | :01:31.
Around ?650,000 of that came from the Welsh Government and that money | :01:32. | :01:35.
was to create 30 new jobs but also to secure jobs. That was a 150 | :01:36. | :01:43.
people in the workforce at the time. Today, though, the site is closed, | :01:44. | :01:47.
all calls going to voice mail with a simple message saying the | :01:48. | :01:51.
administrators have been called in. The night it emerged HMRC revenue | :01:52. | :01:57.
Customs -- HMRC have forwarded a winding-up petition. That is to go | :01:58. | :02:01.
to Government on Monday morning. One of the company's suppliers was Murco | :02:02. | :02:13.
oil refinery. They told us 95 jobs had to go. | :02:14. | :02:15.
A lot of them were my personal friends before | :02:16. | :02:17.
they became my employees so, yes, it was very very upsetting. | :02:18. | :02:20.
It was a worrying time - to lose that much of your | :02:21. | :02:22.
So what will happen now, David? That is the big question. The company | :02:23. | :02:28.
says it has called in administrators and will reopen on Monday morning. | :02:29. | :02:32.
Also on Monday morning the High Court is due to your HMRC's request | :02:33. | :02:37.
to wind up the company. This is a big employer in Pembroke Dock, | :02:38. | :02:42.
contributing to the local economy every year. It will be a tense few | :02:43. | :02:46.
days for staff. But tonight the Welsh Government has issued a | :02:47. | :02:49.
statement saying it is an unsettling time for the company, its employees | :02:50. | :02:53.
and their families, and should the company be wound up next week they | :02:54. | :02:57.
will be looking to offer support to those employees. David Grundy, thank | :02:58. | :02:59.
you for that. The UK Government says it's looking | :03:00. | :03:03.
at whether there should be a change in the law in the wake | :03:04. | :03:06.
of the Ched Evans case. The Welsh footballer, | :03:07. | :03:09.
who now plays for Chesterfield, was cleared of rape in a retrial | :03:10. | :03:11.
earlier this month. Labour has condemned the decision | :03:12. | :03:13.
to allow the jury to hear the sexual The Attorney General says this | :03:14. | :03:16.

at the scene, as parts of the Singleton Campus | :03:30. | :03:35.

denied murdering his Xixi Bi, who was 24, | :03:38. | :03:40.
died at a property on Ely Road Jordan Matthews, who's | :03:41. | :03:44.
from Llandaff, was remanded in custody and is due to stand | :03:45. | :03:56.
trial in February. Ms Bi grew up in China, | :03:57. | :03:59.
and had moved to the UK to study. They are the spy planes at the front | :04:00. | :04:02.

has secured Welsh jobs, Raytheon, based at Broughton | :04:08. | :04:09.
in Flintshire, says North Wales is now well placed for further | :04:10. | :04:16.
expansion into intelligence Keeping an eye on Isis - | :04:17. | :04:17.
this is a view from the cockpit of the Raytheon Sentinel, | :04:18. | :04:25.
the RAF's eye in the sky The plane can fly for nine hours | :04:26. | :04:28.
at a time at 40,000 feet, surveying the land below | :04:29. | :04:32.
using high-tech radar equipment, and it's helping pinpoint | :04:33. | :04:34.
terrorists in the Middle East. And it's here in North East Wales | :04:35. | :04:45.
that engineers maintain the planes which have their instruments | :04:46. | :04:48.
and electrics installed The fleet of five Sentinel were due | :04:49. | :04:50.
to be scrapped but in last year's UK Government Strategic Defence Review | :04:51. | :05:05.
the aircraft was given a reprieve, a decision that has secured 40 | :05:06. | :05:07.
highly skilled jobs here and around It's great to be here in North Wales | :05:08. | :05:10.
at Broughton, to announce a ?131.5 million contract to sustain | :05:11. | :05:15.
the Sentinel here at Reece Dean, and to ensure that this | :05:16. | :05:18.
really capable aircraft which provides an eye in the sky | :05:19. | :05:20.
for our Armed Forces is going to be Raytheon have been in business | :05:21. | :05:23.
here in Broughton for 20 years. The company took over | :05:24. | :05:41.
the Hawker jet company, and moved production | :05:42. | :05:43.
to the United States, but bosses were so impressed | :05:44. | :05:45.
with the quality of the workforce that the company set up | :05:46. | :05:47.
this service centre. Engineers here are in the process | :05:48. | :05:49.
of servicing one of the fleet Today's news means that staff | :05:50. | :05:52.
of all ages can have some job We are going to be here for how | :05:53. | :05:56.
long, I can still learn everything, move around different areas | :05:57. | :06:00.
and really get to know the aircraft. And Shannon and her colleagues | :06:01. | :06:03.
could see their workload increase if the company can sell its | :06:04. | :06:05.
high-tech services around the world. The market itself I think is a very | :06:06. | :06:08.
strong market for ISR, the intelligence surveillance | :06:09. | :06:11.
reconnaissance type platforms. There is a strong market | :06:12. | :06:12.
across the world for that type of capability, | :06:13. | :06:18.
and I think we are well placed here in North Wales | :06:19. | :06:20.
to provide that capability. This entire area is controlled | :06:21. | :06:22.
by Islamic State, so... Last year the BBC gained exclusive | :06:23. | :06:41.
access on board one of the Sentinel planes as it flew a nine-hour | :06:42. | :06:44.
mission over Iraq and Syria looking Today's investment will ensure these | :06:45. | :06:46.
planes are fit for the skies above the Middle East for years | :06:47. | :06:51.
to come, thanks in no small part to a highly skilled workforce some | :06:52. | :06:54.
2000 miles away in Wales. The family of a young | :06:55. | :07:03.
woman from Ceredigion, killed by a drink-driver, | :07:04. | :07:06.
have taken their 100,000 name petition to Downing Street | :07:07. | :07:08.
to call for tougher sentences. The motorist who killed | :07:09. | :07:10.
Miriam Briddon will spend just The Government say they will hold | :07:11. | :07:12.
a review into driving offences From Downing Street, | :07:13. | :07:16.
Aled Scourfield reports. It's been a long painful journey | :07:17. | :07:23.
for the family of Miriam Briddon since she was so tragically killed | :07:24. | :07:26.
near Ciliau Aeron in March 2014. Today their journey took them | :07:27. | :07:29.
from their home in Ceredigion all the way to the gates | :07:30. | :07:31.
of Downing Street, in their battle for tougher penalties | :07:32. | :07:34.
for drivers that kill Not only have we been fully | :07:35. | :07:36.
supported by our local community, which has kept us going for the last | :07:37. | :07:39.
two and a half years, but we have been supported | :07:40. | :07:42.
across the whole of the UK. And we are very proud to be | :07:43. | :07:45.
here to present this petition on behalf of ordinary | :07:46. | :07:48.
families like ourselves. Miriam was just 21 when her | :07:49. | :07:58.
Fiat Punto was struck by a car being driven by Gareth Entwistle, | :07:59. | :08:02.
seen here hiding his face outside He pleaded guilty to causing death | :08:03. | :08:04.
by careless driving whilst under He was sentenced to five-and-a-half | :08:05. | :08:08.
years in prison but his sentence He'll serve just | :08:09. | :08:17.
two-and-a-half years in jail. Miriam 's family have led a campaign | :08:18. | :08:25.
for tougher sentences for drink-drivers and almost | :08:26. | :08:34.
110,000 people have now signed a petition supporting them, | :08:35. | :08:36.
which was handed in to Prime A spokesperson for the Ministry | :08:37. | :08:38.
of Justice told me the Government is determined to make sure that | :08:39. | :08:42.
sentencing fits the crime for people who kill or seriously injure | :08:43. | :08:45.
others on our roads. A consultation on road offences | :08:46. | :08:47.
and penalties will be launched Miriam's family told me | :08:48. | :08:50.
they are hopeful there will be It's very hard to put into words the | :08:51. | :08:58.
feeling of being here today. We have worked hard for 11 weeks now and we | :08:59. | :09:07.
are handing this over today in Miriam 's memory. There has to be a | :09:08. | :09:11.
change. Quite frankly, we have to get a point where a sentence that is | :09:12. | :09:15.
a crime. People to understand and driving is not an accident in itself | :09:16. | :09:19.
but is a choice people make with tragic implications. I think | :09:20. | :09:24.
government are mindful. Those of us campaigning on this issue with the | :09:25. | :09:27.
family need to hold them to account... The Britton family say | :09:28. | :09:35.
they need to fight for tougher sentences, alongside their daily | :09:36. | :09:38.
battle to deal with their own devastating loss. | :09:39. | :09:52.
There's concern tonight that relaxing food hygiene rules around | :09:53. | :09:56.
serving rare beef burgers could lead | :09:57. | :09:58.
to an increased risk of an E.coli outbreak. | :09:59. | :10:00.
Demand for gourmet or premium burgers | :10:01. | :10:01.
served rare or medium has increased, and the Food | :10:02. | :10:03.
Standards Agency has been looking at how meat can be made safer | :10:04. | :10:06.
But experts say while the risks are low, serving under-cooked | :10:07. | :10:10.
One of my concerns with rare burgers is that someone could get E.coli | :10:11. | :10:15.
food poisoning and someone could die in consequence. | :10:16. | :10:17.
Right now we can't stop people offering rare burgers. | :10:18. | :10:19.
If the business can absolutely guarantee that there is no risk | :10:20. | :10:21.
at all from the burgers that it serves rare, | :10:22. | :10:23.
My concern, and the concern of the Chartered Institute | :10:24. | :10:33.
of Environmental Health, is that nobody can guarantee that. | :10:34. | :10:35.
The Food Standards Agency says serving burgers less than thoroughly | :10:36. | :10:38.
cooked is unacceptable, unless a business can | :10:39. | :10:40.
prove to their local authority their procedures | :10:41. | :10:42.
A group of dentists and doctors from South Wales is going | :10:43. | :10:46.
to the so-called Jungle in Calais this weekend, to give medicine | :10:47. | :10:48.
and clothing to people who've been living at the camp. | :10:49. | :10:51.
French officials said they've cleared the site this week, | :10:52. | :10:53.
and migrants have been moved to other facilities | :10:54. | :10:55.
But activists on the ground say many people, | :10:56. | :10:58.
including children, are still in desperate need of help. | :10:59. | :11:06.
I'm not really concerned with the politics of who wants to come to the | :11:07. | :11:12.
UK are not. Ultimately these people are all deserving of basic care, and | :11:13. | :11:18.
unfortunately in the Jungle that is not being provided. Refugee centres | :11:19. | :11:24.
will tell you that the living conditions there are very poor, so | :11:25. | :11:27.
you just want to help your fellow man, basically, and that is my | :11:28. | :11:28.
philosophy. Overnight, some clear | :11:29. | :11:30.
spells further south, but cloud thickening - | :11:31. | :11:42.
patchy rain pushing into North Wales, | :11:43. | :11:43.
mist and fog forming - The rain further north comes | :11:44. | :11:45.
from this cold front, also bringing thicker cloud | :11:46. | :11:54.
tomorrow, but it retreats back northwards as high pressure starts | :11:55. | :11:56.
to build in from the south later Some mist and fog patches | :11:57. | :11:59.
first thing tomorrow - dry to the south, mainly patchy rain | :12:00. | :12:03.
and drizzle Across the UK, thicker | :12:04. | :12:07.
cloud and patchy rain where the cold front lingers - | :12:08. | :12:14.
drier and milder to the south of it and to the north of it brighter, | :12:15. | :12:17.
breezy but colder - highs of just 11 Celsius | :12:18. | :12:24.
across the north of Scotland - in the high teens | :12:25. | :12:26.
where we see some brightness For Wales, any rain eventually | :12:27. | :12:29.
peters out - often cloudy - Just a light breeze, | :12:30. | :12:33.
allowing mist and fog Mild for late October at 13 Celsius | :12:34. | :12:35.
in Denbighshire, 15 in Newport. Some improvements into the weekend | :12:36. | :12:48.
as that high pressure continues to build from the south, keeping things | :12:49. | :12:52.
relatively settled. Quite a gloomy high with a lot of cloud around. | :12:53. | :12:58.
A misty, murky start to Saturday - quite cloudy - but where we get | :12:59. | :13:01.
the breaks in the cloud - southerly winds will | :13:02. | :13:03.
make it feel quite mild in any sunshine - | :13:04. | :13:05.
quite mild in any sunshine - 13-15 Celsius. | :13:06. | :13:11.
So often overcast but mild as we head into the weekend. It did feel | :13:12. | :13:17.
chillier and under the clear skies mist and fog will be re-forming. | :13:18. | :13:19.
Lucy, thank you very much. We're back at around | :13:20. | :13:21.
6.25 in the morning. From all of us here, | :13:22. | :13:24.
goodnight. | :13:25. | :13:28. |
