Good evening.

It's been a bumper summer for the tourism industry here,

that's according to the former chair of the Wales Tourism Alliance.

Tenby hotelier Chris Osborne, who's also a director

of Pembrokeshire Tourism, says the number of overseas

visitors has increased because of the weak pound.

From Tenby, here's Teleri Glyn Jones.

It may not have been the hottest start to the Bank Holiday but that

didn't put off these Bank Holiday bathers in Tenby.

But they're not just swimming, their spending and business

in the town is brisk.

According to this hotelier, whose a director of Pembrokeshire Tourism,

it's been a bumper summer, even before the end of the season,

they're are at least 10% up on income compared to last year.

It's almost like going back to 2008, pre-recession.

I think there's a combination of things involved here.

I think it's Brexit and the exchange rate, so people from other countries

are getting an awful lot more for their euros

or whatever currency they have, and people in this country

finding holidays abroad a lot more expensive.

But also I think it's just the nature of the instability

of the world and the fear factor.

Anglesey-based Menai Holiday Cottage business has 360 properties

across North Wales.

They too say the summer of 2016 has been busier than ever.

They're so full, they're turning people away, but that success has

been a long time in the making.

A lot of people are saying it's Brexit and it's the pound,

but I think it's because all the businesses throughout Wales have

really upped their game.

It's taken a long, long time to get there, but hurray,

we're there and we need to capitalise on it

and do our very best.

We've spoken to several tourism businesses right across Wales,

and it seems anecdotally at least, there's been an increase

in the number of people visiting Wales from abroad.

I have actually seen it with our cottage business,

but I've also seen it driving round Wales.

Coming back from Harlech the other day, there were lots

and lots of foreign numberplates.

There's still another week until the kids go back to school

and the deckchairs are put away for another year, so we'll have

to wait until then to see the official figures.

But if the picture here in Tenby is a link to go by, we are in for

a record-breaking summer season.

53 jobs are at risk after the company behind

the Kingsmill and Allinson brands announced it's decision

to close it's distribution depot in Flintshire.

Following a consultation, Allied Bakeries has announced

the site in Saltney will close in November and that every effort

will be made to help staff secure alternative employment.

Thousands of people flocked to Rhyl's seafront today

for the town's 8th annual Air Show.

It's estimated 140,000 spectators will visit the Denbighshire

town over the weekend.

The event comes as new regulations are enforced following the Shoreham

air-show disaster last year.

Safety has been paramount in planning for this particular event.

As you probably know most of the events, the flying

takes place over the sea.

But we have worked very closely with the Civil Aviation Authority

to make sure that the guidelines are fully adhered to and it should

be a good weekend for everybody who wants to come to Rhyl

to see the airshow.

A Councillor from Aberdyfi has accused Gwynedd Council of taking

advantage of tourists at the expense of local amenities.

Dewi Owen says it's unfair to expect the Comunity Council to contribute

?6,000 to maintain the village's public toilets, when the local car

park made a profit last year.

If there's no agreement, the toilets are set to close.

I have figures here of how much the car park over there made

from tourism in seven months last year.

And the figures I've got here is they made 144,000.

That's how much they made from the car park last year.

So I feel it's very irresponsible of them thinking

that the toilets here cost them 15,000 and they want to close them.

It's absolutely ridiculous.

Gwynedd Council says because of budget cuts,

it's looking to work in partnership with both Town

and Community Councils to keep public toilets open.

And some football results for you - in the Premier League Swansea lost

2-1 against current champions Leicester.

In the Championship, Reading's late goal snatched a win

against Cardiff City.

Hartlepool managed a 2-2 draw against Newport,

that's despite playing most of the game with ten men.

And Wrexham were defeated by a first-half hat-trick away

against Dagenham and Redbridge.

And showery rain will beomes widespread later this evening,

especially in the north.

Lows overnight around 15 Celcius.

Tomorrow morning then, scattered showers,

some of them heavy - will push in from the South West,

becoming a bit brighter in the afternoon.
