Good evening.

A murder investigation is underway in Bangor tonight after a man

died after being injured outside a nightclub.

North Wales Police had arrested a 26-year-old local man

on suspicion of assault, after an incident in the early hours

of Saturday morning.

He's now being questioned on suspicion of murder.

It was just before two o'clock yesterday morning

when officers were called

following reports that a man was unconscious outside

the Peep nightclub close to the centre of Bangor.

North Wales Police say he was injured following an assault and

their officers, along with paramedics, carried out

CPR before he was taken by ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd.

He was later taken to hospital in Stoke, where he died.

He was 27 and from Llangefni and has been described tonight

as a young family man.

The man originally arrested on suspicion of assault

is now being held at Caernarfon police station

after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

A major incident room has been set up

and a team of detectives are working to establish exactly what happened.

Officers want witnesses to come forward.

They are especially keen for anyone who was in the area of the club

on Dean Street with photos, video or dash cam footage from

between 1:30 and 2:15 on Saturday morning to contact them.

Universities should pay the voluntary living wage

as part of a "civic mission."

That's according to the Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams,

who's also calling for "much greater constraint" in setting

the pay packets of universities' highest earners.

Anne-Marie is a cleaner at Cardiff University

and receives the living wage.

Cardiff is the only accredited living wage employer

among Welsh universities.

The Living Wage Foundation thinks people should earn

at least ?8.45 an hour to meet the cost of living,

that is higher than the UK Government's national living

wage which rose to ?7.50 this month for people aged 25 and over.

I had two jobs before to make ends meet

and it meant a lot of rushing around, you know,

working till three o'clock, going home to pick my daughter up

and then rush back to work, which was a nightmare.

I didn't have much time for anything else.

So when I came up here, it was great.

Paying the living wage cost Cardiff University ?600,000 a year.

The Welsh government headquarters is just over the road

from Cardiff University, The only Welsh university

that is an accredited living wage employer.

Kirsty Williams says she wants the others to do the same

and she is calling on them to make rapid progress.

We need those universities to recognise the power

that they have within our nation of Wales to do good.

Yes, to educate people, but to use their powers and

their resources, their facilities to contribute to the nation as a whole

and paying the living wage to all staff is an important part

of doing that.

Mrs Williams also called for a much greater constraint in the salaries

of senior staff.

In 2015, the vice chancellors of all Welsh

universities earned more than ?200,000, but senior salaries

were said to be broadly comparable with universities across the UK.

The umbrella group for higher education,

Universities Wales, said many institutions already have pay rates

that matched the voluntary living wage, even if they weren't

accredited living wage employers.

Last week, threats to jobs emerged

at University of Wales Trinity St David

and at the University of South Wales, a sign that universities

aren't feeling flush.

The ban on smoking in enclosed public places in Wales,

which was introduced ten years ago,

has seen almost 100,000 fewer smokers here.

That's according to figures released by the Welsh Government.

It also shows that 19% of adults are smokers,

compared to 24% in 2007.

The one group which has seen a rise are the unemployed.

Onto football and Swansea City are just a point above

the Premier League relegation zone after a frustrating goalless draw

with Middlesbrough.

The Swans enjoyed much of the possession but could not

force a goal against one of their rivals at the wrong

end of the table.

The Swans have eight matches left this season,

starting with the visit of second placed Spurs on Wednesday.

Onto rugby and the Ospreys are playing their European Challenge Cup

quarter final against Stade Francais at the Principality Stadium,

due to the Liberty Stadium hosting that Swansea City match earlier.

They're at half time - the latest score is 8-6

to Stade Francias.

Last night, the Cardiff Blues were knocked out of the competition

after Gloucester came back from behind to win comfortably

by 46 points to 26.

In snooker, Mark Williams has missed out on automatic qualification

for the World Championship, after losing by ten frames to eight

in the China Open final.

Winner Mark Selby walked away with an ?85,000 pounds

first prize in Beijing.
