Friday looks nice, still fairly
cool, mild into the | 0:00:00 | 0:00:01
cool, mild into the weekend. Now the
National forecast with Phil Avery. | 0:00:01 | 0:00:09
With Storm Georgina not 1 million
miles away, the day was always going | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
to be wet and windy. The satellite
picture tells the tale, close to the | 0:00:14 | 0:00:19
north of Scotland but many more of
you will have seen this portion of | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
the weather front which brought in
its own rights and very wet and | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
really quite windy weather.
The rain has eventually cleared away | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
from the very far south-east, sunny
spells that I didn't showers. Some | 0:00:29 | 0:00:34
of the rain and snow melt
contributed to the situation in York | 0:00:34 | 0:00:40
and in Dumfries the river was also
an issue. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
The other half of the story was the
strength of the winds. Nowhere worse | 0:00:43 | 0:00:48
perhaps than the far north of
Scotland, but even as far south as | 0:00:48 | 0:00:52
Cromwell, 60 mph. The waste really
crashed over the sea defences in the | 0:00:52 | 0:00:58
western side of Highland Scotland.
Getting a bit quieter now, still | 0:00:58 | 0:01:03
quite breezy with some gusts in
excess of 40 mph or so. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:07
Low pressure tracking in towards
Northern Ireland, not with the same | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
intensity as Georgina.
Not a particularly cold night for | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
many but there could be ice and
frost across the northern Scotland, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:19
some winteriness there.
Bright enough across the eastern | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
side of the British Isles, near to
the centre of the lull, Northern | 0:01:21 | 0:01:26
Ireland, plenty of showers.
By the middle of the day, do not be | 0:01:26 | 0:01:31
surprised to see a little bit of
winteriness about the showers, there | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
are plenty of them in western areas.
Central Scotland and eastern England | 0:01:34 | 0:01:39
and places could get away with
essentially a dry look to your | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
weather.
Through the evening and overnight, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
that centre transfers to the North
Sea which allows something of a | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
north-westerly breeze to set up
across the British Isles, a cool | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
start, maybe frosty. Some breeze
across the eastern shores, maybe a | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
shower or two but you get the sense
that it is a pretty decent day. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:07
Plenty of sunshine to go around, I
would have thought. It does not do | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
an awful lot for temperatures, but
with the absence of meaningful | 0:02:11 | 0:02:12
winter for many, 9 degrees feels
very pleasant. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
Just in time for the weekend we
bring in the first weather spread | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
from the Atlantic, some rain for
many parts. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
As we get into Sunday the rain
becomes confined to the | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
north-western quarter of Scotland.
What does that mean for the weekend? | 0:02:23 | 0:02:27
I suspect there will be | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29 |
