Hello, welcome to BBC World News. Malaysian police have identified one | :00:11. | :00:19.
of two men who used stolen passports to board the aircraft. The Oscar | :00:20. | :00:23.
Pistorius trial is not broadcasting graphic details of the murder of | :00:24. | :00:30.
macro free. A deal on the Ukrainian nuclear programme could be reached | :00:31. | :00:41.
within months. It is all change on the International Space Station as | :00:42. | :00:57.
colleagues swap roles. Malaysian police have told the BBC that they | :00:58. | :01:01.
have identified one of two men who boarded the missing Malaysian | :01:02. | :01:05.
Airlines flight with stolen passports. Police say they cannot | :01:06. | :01:13.
reveal his identity but said he is not Malaysian. The search is | :01:14. | :01:17.
continuing for the missing airline. This is a photo of the plane on an | :01:18. | :01:25.
earlier flight. 239 people were on board the plane as it travelled from | :01:26. | :01:32.
Kuala Lumpur when it vanished. An earlier possible sighting of a live | :01:33. | :01:39.
craft proved to be unfounded. The search area has been widened and | :01:40. | :01:44.
includes an area of the western coast. The Malaysian government is | :01:45. | :01:51.
sharing intelligence with the Americans and Chinese over the two | :01:52. | :01:54.
stolen passports that we used to board the flight. The Transport | :01:55. | :02:00.
Minister told us how they were showing that intelligence. I met up | :02:01. | :02:08.
with the US intelligence agency yesterday. We are sharing background | :02:09. | :02:18.
information and visuals. That information is being digestive by | :02:19. | :02:23.
the relevant agencies, both local and international. Until I get more | :02:24. | :02:29.
information, I will not say any more. I do not want to affect the | :02:30. | :02:38.
ongoing investigation. Our correspondent is in Kuala Lumpur. | :02:39. | :02:43.
Jennifer, what is going on there at the moment, and what do we know | :02:44. | :02:46.
about the identity of the two men who used the stolen passports? Well, | :02:47. | :02:58.
we are in the press conference room where the officials are going to | :02:59. | :03:02.
give another press conference shortly, at the top of the hour. | :03:03. | :03:07.
There are lots of media agencies here, especially Chinese. Half of | :03:08. | :03:14.
the passengers on board were Chinese stop there is intense international | :03:15. | :03:18.
interest in this story, but the information coming out of this room | :03:19. | :03:20.
has not been satisfying the journalist. -- journalists. They are | :03:21. | :03:35.
not willing to give out information until they can double-check it all | :03:36. | :03:40.
and make sure it is concrete. That is why we have reports regarding the | :03:41. | :03:45.
live craft and the spotting of debris. -- live craft. That is why | :03:46. | :03:54.
they are telling people to avoid speculation because the scale of | :03:55. | :03:57.
this search is so massive, and they do not have any further details on | :03:58. | :04:05.
the whereabouts of flights MH370. Have you had it confirmed that they | :04:06. | :04:09.
know the identity of one of the people who used this stolen | :04:10. | :04:19.
passport? Indeed. Malaysian leas have told the BBC that they have | :04:20. | :04:22.
identified one of the two passengers who got on the aeroplane with a | :04:23. | :04:29.
stolen passport but they have not given any further details other than | :04:30. | :04:34.
he is not Malaysian. They are cautious about revealing | :04:35. | :04:39.
information. This is one of many areas that they are looking into. Do | :04:40. | :04:45.
these two passengers have anything to do with the disappearance of this | :04:46. | :04:49.
aircraft? That is unresolved at this point in time. There are a lots of | :04:50. | :05:01.
questions. -- a lot. And cute, we will return to you through the day. | :05:02. | :05:06.
Over half of the 239 passengers on board were Chinese. Our Beijing | :05:07. | :05:11.
correspondent has entered this report from a hotel where relatives | :05:12. | :05:16.
await, anxiously, news of their loved ones. This is the Hotel, a | :05:17. | :05:24.
short drive from the airport, where the family members have been | :05:25. | :05:30.
brought. The mood inside is best described as a mixture of the grief | :05:31. | :05:35.
and mounting frustration. Malaysian Airlines have offered to fly to | :05:36. | :05:48.
macro members -- two members of each family to the sites. There is an | :05:49. | :05:55.
absence of information with the Malaysian government describing the | :05:56. | :05:58.
whereabouts of flight MH370 as a mystery. We also understand that | :05:59. | :06:03.
some family members do not have Chinese passport so they will face a | :06:04. | :06:08.
bureaucratic hurdles before they can get on an aeroplane. To say there is | :06:09. | :06:12.
intense media interest is an understatement. These are some of | :06:13. | :06:22.
the reporters gathered outside the room where the family are being | :06:23. | :06:26.
briefed. Many of them have expressed their anger over a lack of | :06:27. | :06:31.
information. There is so little information to give them at the | :06:32. | :06:36.
moment, and it is an intensely difficult time, in the glare of the | :06:37. | :06:40.
media spotlight, with our more questions than there are answers. | :06:41. | :06:45.
All the time, they realised they may be beginning a grieving process for | :06:46. | :06:51.
loved ones who are not coming back. We will keep you up to date on any | :06:52. | :06:54.
developments within that press conference. A run's Foreign Minister | :06:55. | :07:08.
says Ed real -- Iran's Foreign Minister says a deal on its nuclear | :07:09. | :07:11.
programme could be reached 'within months.' Mohammad Javad Zarif made | :07:12. | :07:14.
the comment after talks with the European Union's foreign policy | :07:15. | :07:19.
chief, Catherine Ashton. Iran has waited a long time. Six years for | :07:20. | :07:27.
Europe's top diplomats to visit. It was important to get every detail | :07:28. | :07:34.
right in an attempt to build a new relationship between Iran and | :07:35. | :07:51.
Europe. The landmark deal they reached on the nuclear programme | :07:52. | :07:55.
runs out soon. The time is short and the gaps are white. Are you worried | :07:56. | :08:04.
they may not succeed? Iran is determined to reach an agreement and | :08:05. | :08:09.
it is within its own interests to make sure there is no ambiguity | :08:10. | :08:15.
about Iran's intentions. We have no intention to seek nuclear weapons. | :08:16. | :08:26.
As the negotiations go on, the talks become more difficult. Catherine | :08:27. | :08:34.
Ashton made it a priority to meet women fighting for human rights | :08:35. | :08:37.
here. This woman has been to prison for times for her political views. | :08:38. | :08:45.
Europe's top diplomat wants to engage on these issues. We have come | :08:46. | :08:50.
to establish for ourselves the situation here. We also recognise | :08:51. | :08:58.
that that relationship is, in many ways, dependent on whether we can | :08:59. | :09:06.
deal with the new killer issue, and whether Iran demonstrates it is | :09:07. | :09:08.
looking for a different role. Iranians have suffered under | :09:09. | :09:15.
sanctions for years. A nuclear deal brought some hope. Many wanted a | :09:16. | :09:20.
relationship with the West but many are convinced it will not happen. | :09:21. | :09:27.
The sixth day of the Oscar Pistorius trial is underway. The court has | :09:28. | :09:43.
been hearing evidence. Oscar Pistorius, seen here arriving in | :09:44. | :09:49.
court today, is on trial for allegedly killing his girlfriend. | :09:50. | :09:53.
Our reporter is outside the courthouse. What has happened today? | :09:54. | :10:04.
The only thing that we can say was that there was an order from the | :10:05. | :10:14.
judge who said that there should be no live broadcasting of the evidence | :10:15. | :10:18.
that was delivered by the state pathologist. No one is allowed to | :10:19. | :10:27.
broadcast that or even tweeds that. -- tweet. The professor has started | :10:28. | :10:34.
giving evidence, graphic details about the injuries that macro | :10:35. | :10:41.
re-sustained -- that Miss Steenkamp sustained. Oscar Pistorius became | :10:42. | :10:46.
physically ill in court and there was an adjournment because of that. | :10:47. | :10:52.
He was asked whether he would continue today's proceedings, but | :10:53. | :11:02.
the lawyer told the court that if it could change anything then he words | :11:03. | :11:08.
ask for a discontinuation, but Oscar Pistorius has asked to continue. No | :11:09. | :11:13.
reasons have been given for why this cannot be broadcast? Well, we heard | :11:14. | :11:21.
from the professor that the reason he gave was that he feels the | :11:22. | :11:30.
dignity of the deceased would not the respected -- would not be | :11:31. | :11:35.
respected. He had ethical problems about broadcasting these details, | :11:36. | :11:39.
and there were arguments from the defence attorney of Oscar Pistorius | :11:40. | :11:42.
that it was not in the public interest to give out the public | :11:43. | :11:47.
details of Miss Steenkamp's injuries. Pressure is growing on | :11:48. | :11:54.
Ukraine's interim government as Moscow strengthened its grip on | :11:55. | :12:03.
Crimea. Rallies are taking place in eastern Ukraine and in Moscow in | :12:04. | :12:07.
support of the Crimean people deciding their own future. The | :12:08. | :12:11.
ousted president is expected to speak tomorrow. However, not all | :12:12. | :12:17.
ethnic Russians living in Crimea want the region to leave Ukraine. I | :12:18. | :12:25.
think this invitation by President Obama to the interim Prime Minister | :12:26. | :12:31.
is a very clear show of support for the interim government here. It is | :12:32. | :12:39.
proof that the USA and the international community see the | :12:40. | :12:46.
government here in Kiev as a legitimate one, at least until the | :12:47. | :12:50.
elections in May. They are saying that they support Ukraine, and | :12:51. | :12:55.
repeating the idea that Moscow is committing an act of aggression in | :12:56. | :13:02.
Crimea, and Russian troops need to withdraw. We have not seen any | :13:03. | :13:08.
sign, any real sign, that international pressure is having any | :13:09. | :13:11.
impact on Moscow, certainly not on the ground here in Crimea. President | :13:12. | :13:20.
Putin, in a phone call with the British Prime Minister, did say that | :13:21. | :13:25.
an international contact group is a possibility. He said that he would | :13:26. | :13:29.
discuss that possibility with his Foreign Minister. A suggestion that | :13:30. | :13:35.
it could be possible to bring Russia and Ukraine into some talks, the | :13:36. | :13:42.
first step to working their way out of this crisis. Meanwhile, rings are | :13:43. | :13:46.
moving quickly here. There has been a report today that there will be | :13:47. | :13:54.
moves to introduce the Russian currency in Crimea. Obviously, these | :13:55. | :14:01.
are disturbing times for people in Kiev. Now, let's tell you what is | :14:02. | :14:13.
coming up. I will be speaking to the BBC security correspondent, Frank | :14:14. | :14:16.
Gardner, about Malaysian's announcement that it is sharing | :14:17. | :14:30.
intelligence with America and China. The Venezuelan President, Nicolas | :14:31. | :14:32.
Maduro, has reacted angrily to comments made by US Vice-President | :14:33. | :14:35.
Joe Biden about ongoing protests in the country. In a newspaper article | :14:36. | :14:39.
Mr Biden called the situation alarming and accused the Venezuelan | :14:40. | :14:41.
government of false conspiracy theories against the United States. | :14:42. | :14:50.
Donna Larsen reports. Tensions flare again in the Venezuelan capital, | :14:51. | :14:54.
Caracas. For almost a month, protesters have used barricades and | :14:55. | :14:58.
clashed with police. They are angry about food shortages and they are | :14:59. | :15:03.
demanding the resignation of the president, Nicolas Maduro. | :15:04. | :15:10.
TRANSLATION: We need to unite. A lot of people do not want to unite | :15:11. | :15:14.
because they say this is vandalism. We are fighting with the National | :15:15. | :15:18.
Guard. They are ambushing us on both sides. It is a theory which the US | :15:19. | :15:25.
vice president agrees with. Writing in a newspaper, he said the | :15:26. | :15:29.
Venezuelan government was using armed vigilante is against peaceful | :15:30. | :15:32.
protesters, and had concocted false conspiracy theories about the US. | :15:33. | :15:38.
The comments were sternly rejected a President Maduro, at this | :15:39. | :15:44.
pro-government rally. TRANSLATION: Joe Biden arrived in | :15:45. | :15:49.
Chile and the first thing he did was to attack Venezuela and Latin | :15:50. | :15:52.
America. He is an abuser. He comes to south America to attack the | :15:53. | :15:56.
people of Venezuelan. We do not accept it. Although the president | :15:57. | :16:02.
Gordon Administration shows no sign of crumbling yet, the daily | :16:03. | :16:05.
protests, which have spread to other parts of the country, are | :16:06. | :16:08.
undoubtedly putting the government and the economy under pressure. | :16:09. | :16:15.
A drug lord in Mexico has been killed - again. Officials say | :16:16. | :16:20.
Nazario Moreno, also known as The Craziest One, is now officially | :16:21. | :16:23.
deceased - after he was reportedly killed three years ago. He was seen | :16:24. | :16:27.
as the spiritual leader of the brutal Knights Templar cartel. | :16:28. | :16:29.
Fingerprint tests have confirmed his identity. Our main headlines... | :16:30. | :16:41.
Police in Malaysia say they've identified one of the two men who | :16:42. | :16:44.
boarded the missing plane with stolen passports. Malaysia says it | :16:45. | :16:50.
is sharing biometric details of passengers with intelligence | :16:51. | :16:55.
agencies in America and China. Lets get more on our top story now. With | :16:56. | :17:07.
me is Frank Gardner, the BBC security correspondent. The fact | :17:08. | :17:11.
that two people boarded a plane with stolen passports raises question | :17:12. | :17:13.
marks, but it is not completely unusual. Interpol say that they have | :17:14. | :17:18.
on their database 40 million stolen passports logged, or at least, 40 | :17:19. | :17:23.
million cases, and that in the last year, 1 billion times, people have | :17:24. | :17:27.
gone through a port security without that list being checked. So, it is | :17:28. | :17:33.
not entirely surprising that on an international flight of more than | :17:34. | :17:36.
200 people, that a couple of people will have that. But of course the | :17:37. | :17:39.
Malaysians and every body else involved in this art rightly | :17:40. | :17:43.
interested to find out who those people were, why they had stolen | :17:44. | :17:46.
passports, and where they were going. One of them it appears has | :17:47. | :17:52.
been identified. It would be really interesting to know who he or she | :17:53. | :17:56.
is. The original holders of those passports, an Italian and an | :17:57. | :18:02.
Austrian, it seems they reported them, but that did not actually get | :18:03. | :18:05.
as far as the gate. What should have happened is, when somebody boarded | :18:06. | :18:11.
that flight in Kuala Lumpur, with that stolen passport, it should have | :18:12. | :18:14.
flashed up a warning immediately. Malaysia is not alone. Lots of | :18:15. | :18:19.
countries and national border agencies do not actually do this | :18:20. | :18:24.
check. Interpol are saying, now is the time, this should be a wake-up | :18:25. | :18:30.
call. Why do they not do it? They maybe it is just one thing to many | :18:31. | :18:34.
for people. It would probably slow down passport lines. It is a very | :18:35. | :18:39.
good question. The big priority is to stop people getting on board | :18:40. | :18:43.
planes with a gun or explosives. Obviously, anything to do with | :18:44. | :18:50.
airline hijacking, terrorism, piracy, the Americans have got a | :18:51. | :18:55.
massive interest in. Apart from the fact that it was a US citizen I | :18:56. | :18:58.
think on the manifest, the FBI are very involved in this. And they have | :18:59. | :19:03.
got the technology and the database. One thing the Americans have done is | :19:04. | :19:07.
to scan their detectors to see if there was any sign of a flash over | :19:08. | :19:12.
the Gulf of Thailand at the time the plane was flying, and there wasn't. | :19:13. | :19:16.
How unusual is it for the Chinese and the Americans both to be given | :19:17. | :19:21.
these results? I know quite a lot of sharing goes on between | :19:22. | :19:28.
countries... I think this is one of those human tragedies which | :19:29. | :19:32.
transcends national borders. There has already been quite a lot of | :19:33. | :19:35.
tension between China and Vietnam for example over the south China Sea | :19:36. | :19:40.
and maritime rights and Islands and so on, and yet that seems to have | :19:41. | :19:46.
been put to one side. Everybody, for the sake of the relatives, the loved | :19:47. | :19:51.
ones, wants to find out, needs to find out urgently, what has happened | :19:52. | :19:56.
to this plane. Very quickly, is it possible that we do not have the | :19:57. | :19:59.
information from satellites or from wherever, given that there is so | :20:00. | :20:05.
much radar checking, how can it just disappear? You are saying, has there | :20:06. | :20:11.
been a cover-up? Not necessarily, it just seems implausible. It is | :20:12. | :20:15.
surprising that it has taken this long, definitely. With calm seas, | :20:16. | :20:20.
the black box will appear, the US Navy is confident about that. The | :20:21. | :20:23.
seventh Fleet is searching for it. I think they will find it. It will | :20:24. | :20:25.
just take a bit of time. A group of Greek Orthodox nuns have | :20:26. | :20:43.
been released three months after being kidnapped by Syrian rebels. | :20:44. | :20:46.
The Syrian state news agency says they have arrived in Damascus. The | :20:47. | :20:49.
13 nuns and their three domestic helpers said they were tired, but | :20:50. | :20:52.
had been mostly well-treated by their captors - thought to be the | :20:53. | :20:56.
al-Qaeda-linked Al Nusra Front. A Lebanese general who helped broker | :20:57. | :20:58.
the release said the Syrian government would free about 150 | :20:59. | :21:01.
women and child prisoners in exchange. | :21:02. | :21:03.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague is continuing its | :21:04. | :21:06.
hearing on competing claims of genocide by both Croatia and Serbia | :21:07. | :21:09.
in the Balkan wars. Croatia is arguing that Serbia committed | :21:10. | :21:12.
genocide in the city of Vukovar and elsewhere in 1991. Serbia has filed | :21:13. | :21:15.
a counter claim over the expulsion of 230,000 Serbs from Croatia in | :21:16. | :21:17.
1995. Now, a special report on a condition | :21:18. | :21:35.
that affects two million women across mostly Sub-Saharan Africa and | :21:36. | :21:38.
south Asia. The BBC has special access to British doctors trying to | :21:39. | :21:41.
treat the devastating condition obstetric fistula. It occurs as a | :21:42. | :21:44.
result of complications in childbirth. Our global health | :21:45. | :21:46.
correspondent Tulip Mazumdar reports from Masaka in central Uganda. There | :21:47. | :21:49.
are some graphic details in her report, but around the world, there | :21:50. | :21:52.
are nearly 2,000 new cases every day. The nearest hospital here in | :21:53. | :22:00.
rural Uganda is two hours away. Most women give birth at home, and some | :22:01. | :22:05.
lose their babies as a result. This lady was 16 when she went into | :22:06. | :22:09.
labour here. After three days she was finally taken to hospital. She | :22:10. | :22:13.
gave birth to a little girl, who died soon after delivery. She tells | :22:14. | :22:22.
me she was cursed, and that is why her baby died. The obstructed | :22:23. | :22:27.
delivery also caused a rupture in her bladder, making her leak urine | :22:28. | :22:39.
constantly, a condition known as obstetric fistula. For some women, | :22:40. | :22:42.
their bowels are also affected, making them doubly incontinent. Now, | :22:43. | :22:48.
a rare opportunity to repair the damage, for two weeks, doctors from | :22:49. | :22:56.
Britain are providing free fistula surgery at this hospital, which | :22:57. | :23:03.
usually costs $700. TRANSLATION: I was very lively | :23:04. | :23:07.
before. Now, I cannot mix with people. When I pass someone, they | :23:08. | :23:13.
tell me I stink. Even when I take a bath, the smell does not leave me, | :23:14. | :23:20.
so I just stay at home. To raise awareness, the missionaries who run | :23:21. | :23:25.
the hospital travel to villages and talk about family planning and | :23:26. | :23:28.
giving birth safely. Most of the women here today will have given | :23:29. | :23:31.
birth at home with a traditional birthing attendant. These are | :23:32. | :23:34.
generally older women who have little or no medical experience. The | :23:35. | :23:39.
Dr is telling the community instead to save enough money to get the | :23:40. | :23:43.
woman to hospital so that she can give birth safely. She says that | :23:44. | :23:46.
could be the difference between life and death for the woman, and for her | :23:47. | :23:52.
unborn child. Let's go through. The morning of Selena's surgery, and she | :23:53. | :24:01.
is nervous. This is complex surgery. The hope is that Dr Duffy and his | :24:02. | :24:05.
team will train Ugandan doctors so that they can eventually take over. | :24:06. | :24:11.
We do four camps year. We have a local surgeon here, who is able to | :24:12. | :24:19.
do the simple fistulas. So, she is starting to take them on, but | :24:20. | :24:23.
unfortunately, not as much surgery happens after we have gone as we | :24:24. | :24:27.
would like. Selina's operation has been a success. After a short | :24:28. | :24:31.
recovery time, her mother hopes she can go back to school and get her | :24:32. | :24:35.
life back. But many more women are left waiting, facing a lifetime of | :24:36. | :24:43.
rejection, shame and she mediation. -- and humiliation. | :24:44. | :24:54.
If you have seen the film Gravity, this next piece might ring a bell, | :24:55. | :24:57.
because the International Space Station has a new commander, the | :24:58. | :25:00.
first Japanese astronaut to take up the post. There was a ceremony which | :25:01. | :25:05.
was watched by ground control. This report from Alpa Patel. Koichi | :25:06. | :25:11.
Wakata is used to making history. He was one of three astronauts to take | :25:12. | :25:16.
the first Olympic torch into space. At now, during a live ceremony which | :25:17. | :25:21.
was beamed down to colleagues back on Earth, he was made the new | :25:22. | :25:24.
commander of the International Space Station. He is the first Japanese | :25:25. | :25:35.
astronaut to take up the role. I am humbled to assume the command of the | :25:36. | :25:37.
International Space Station. To the entire team, congratulations on the | :25:38. | :25:42.
amazing competition. We have unforgettable memories together. We | :25:43. | :25:48.
will continue to keep the station operation safe, efficient and fun, | :25:49. | :25:52.
as you guys lead us to do so. So, have a safe return, and we will | :25:53. | :25:57.
catch you back on the planet in a couple of months. The man stepping | :25:58. | :26:03.
down is Oleg Kotov, who congratulated the new boss. He will | :26:04. | :26:07.
now travel back to Earth, leaving Koichi Wakata in charge of a $100 | :26:08. | :26:13.
billion research laboratory, which flies 420 kilometres above Earth. By | :26:14. | :26:19.
taking over command, Koichi Wakata has signed his name into history, | :26:20. | :26:23.
and no doubt made his nation very proud. | :26:24. | :26:29.
Just to remind you, our top story - this ongoing crisis Malaysian | :26:30. | :26:44.

two stolen passports, and they have identified one of those two | :26:54. | :26:59.
