been recorded in the island. The Education Department says

the problem will be tackled by a new funding scheme that

allocates extra money to schools for each

disadvantaged pupil they have. A new breakdown of figures shows

the last academic year was another But also highlights a big gap

which already exists in England, is being rolled out across schools

for schools based on the number of children they have whose families

are on income support The amount of money hasn't

been made public yet, but in England it's about ?900 extra

a year per eligible The Education Minister says 2,500

students in Jersey will be eligible, and in a push to give

schools more autonomy, Part of that autonomy is to make

sure that heads and teachers have the ability to look at how that

money is spent and where it would So in terms of school

at the opportunity to decide where it is best placed,

already exists in England. Earlier I spoke to Sir Kevan Collins

of the Education Endowment Foundation and asked him how

successful it had been.. The scheme has been running since

2011 and is making some real progress in the gaps are closing at

primary. We are seeing a shunt in the secondary results that well. It

is not an overwhelming success, but we are beginning to see the signs

tide and to make a difference in tide and to make a difference in

that the duration. How does the scheme ensure that the money goes

where it should not just used in the budgets of the school? The first

thing that is good about the allocation of the money is that it

is handed straight to the people who makes the decision. The big

decisions are the ones of the teachers making the classroom. It is

not used in the bureaucracy somewhere. Your question is the key

one. Had we make sure it is not lost on the general school budget? The

key thing there is to have accountability and to make sure that

the schools are held accountable for how they spend the money and for the

progress made for these children and the performance tables have to make

that very clear and explicit. What do you think Jersey can learn from

the scheme that is currently running in the UK? I think Jersey can learn

and certainly will be learning from Jersey. The key thing that Jersey

can learn is that it is very important to take notice of the

evidence. Not work on hunch or fad or fashion, but follow the hard

evidence of what works for this children. What we know works is

investing wisely in teachers and their performance, in parents and

their engagement, and making sure that the products and programmes

that people will sell you are well informed and proven. There is lots

of snake oil and people trying to get used to that -- their hands on

that money. You got to use it wisely.

Guernsey's Education Committee has announced it's applying

for ?138 million to rebuild La Mare De Carteret Schools

and the College of Further Education.

They plan to press ahead with a three-school model.

It follows a series of workshops last month asking deputies

what direction they wanted the future of education to take.

Looking over plans that could transform one

La Mare De Carteret is no longer considered fit for purpose and this

man is leading the charge to get it rebuilt.

Hello. We have got some changes in terms of temperatures and

weathertight towards the end of the week ahead. For the next couple of
