Good evening, I'm Alison Moss. for the news where you are.

:00:00.:00:10.

It's been revealed this summer there won't be any opportunities

:00:11.:00:12.

for people in Guernsey to travel by ferry and spend

:00:13.:00:17.

Condor's timetables only allows Guernsey customers to travel

:00:18.:00:22.

to their sister island for the afternoon.

:00:23.:00:25.

The States say they want other providers to come

:00:26.:00:29.

forward and offer to run a dedicated inter-island service.

:00:30.:00:31.

To appreciate the beauty of the Channel Islands,

:00:32.:00:37.

It's advice many of us have given - like Condor Ferries who offer

:00:38.:00:41.

day trips with a difference on their website.

:00:42.:00:45.

But this summer, for Guernsey locals and tourists alike,

:00:46.:00:48.

it might not be so easy to experience other islands,

:00:49.:00:51.

as you can't spend more than an afternoon on Jersey.

:00:52.:00:54.

The Committee of Economic Development did not

:00:55.:00:56.

It is debatable what a day trip compromises of.

:00:57.:01:02.

Condor would argue that going out on the Liberation,

:01:03.:01:05.

spending three to four hours on our sister island and returning

:01:06.:01:08.

Personally, I do not feel that's a day trip.

:01:09.:01:13.

From the beginning of June to the end of August,

:01:14.:01:16.

there are just 12 days when you can spend over five hours on Jersey -

:01:17.:01:20.

with the longest amount of time being five hours and 50 minutes.

:01:21.:01:24.

On those days all crossings leave after midday.

:01:25.:01:27.

And for a family of four taking their car over -

:01:28.:01:30.

it'll still set you back almost ?200.

:01:31.:01:33.

If you are going to pay that kind of money you want the full day,

:01:34.:01:37.

everything included and you're not getting that you're not

:01:38.:01:39.

It is not enough time to do what you would want to do,

:01:40.:01:44.

It needs a more user-friendly timetable.

:01:45.:01:51.

People would go for leisure purposes.

:01:52.:01:56.

But Condor say their timetable just isn't designed

:01:57.:01:58.

And a feaseability study last year found that a dedicated inter-island

:01:59.:02:04.

service wouldn't be financially viable for them as there

:02:05.:02:08.

Yet the states believe there is a market for a smaller

:02:09.:02:12.

passenger only ferry service and are urging companies who may be

:02:13.:02:16.

interested in running one to come forward.

:02:17.:02:18.

Jessica Banham, BBC Channel Islands News, Guernsey.

:02:19.:02:23.

Guernsey's new Population Law will come into effect on Monday.

:02:24.:02:26.

The island's politicians passed the last of the new

:02:27.:02:29.

This included capping the number of open market properties

:02:30.:02:35.

that could be used for multi-occupancy use at 205.

:02:36.:02:39.

All aspects of the new law and its effects will be subject

:02:40.:02:42.

to a review by the States, with a report due back

:02:43.:02:45.

Meanwhile, States-owned company Andium Homes has today purchased

:02:46.:02:51.

the Robin Hood site in Jersey to build affordable housing.

:02:52.:02:55.

The site at the corner of Trinity Hill and Springfield Road

:02:56.:02:59.

has been undeveloped for a number of years since the former Robin Hood

:03:00.:03:03.

Are you transported back to the 1980s and the days of Bergerac?

:03:04.:03:17.

Well, tonight, Jersey museum has launched a major exhibition looking

:03:18.:03:21.

back at the decade of shoulder pads and big hair.

:03:22.:03:24.

Our reporter Julie Flanagan has been to meet the star of Bergerac,

:03:25.:03:27.

You can't explore that decade here without mentioning

:03:28.:03:40.

John Nettles, what memories does this beautiful Triumph bring back?

:03:41.:03:52.

Mostly bad ones, I have to say. This car looks beautiful but it is very

:03:53.:04:00.

far from easy to dry. Jersey is full of little lanes, lots of T junctions

:04:01.:04:06.

and cross roads and very high edges so when you come to T-junction ora

:04:07.:04:13.

corner, you have to look round and see if it is safe to go out but look

:04:14.:04:18.

at the length of this bonnet. What do you do? You go and hang that out

:04:19.:04:24.

in Cannonball Alley and hope to god that nothing is coming your way. You

:04:25.:04:29.

were in Jersey when it was buzzing with nightclubs and tourism was

:04:30.:04:34.

booming. What are your memories of the 1980s? I do remember much. I do!

:04:35.:04:42.

It was a wonderful time. The place was packed. You couldn't move along

:04:43.:04:47.

the Esplanade, the beaches were packed everywhere. Even the five

:04:48.:04:55.

mile beaches but packed. The nightclubs, you couldn't go 500

:04:56.:04:58.

yards without finding and nightclub and light entertainment. Are you as

:04:59.:05:03.

fond of the character Bergerac as we are? I love him. He pays my

:05:04.:05:10.

mortgage. He is a rather silly character. He is to become ID NATS

:05:11.:05:16.

character, as Dario typical maverick cop and so on but I liked him. And

:05:17.:05:23.

so do I. That exhibition opens tomorrow to the public.

:05:24.:05:27.

Sport now, and last weekend, Jersey Reds pulled off one

:05:28.:05:29.

of their greatest wins - beating this season's undefeated

:05:30.:05:31.

This Sunday, both teams will be squaring up once more for semifinal

:05:32.:05:35.

tie in the British and Irish Cup at Reading's Madejski Stadium.

:05:36.:05:38.

BBC Radio Jersey will have coverage on Sportscene this Sunday.

:05:39.:05:40.

It's a massive weekend for Jersey netball with

:05:41.:05:42.

And on Sunday is that crucial last National Premiership 2 League

:05:43.:05:46.

match when Team Jets play Premier Romans in Bristol.

:05:47.:05:50.

A win for Jersey is necessary if they're to be sure of avoiding

:05:51.:05:53.

Here's David Braine and the weekend forecast.

:05:54.:06:01.

Good evening. April showers is the order of the day. As we move into

:06:02.:06:10.

Sunday, we should get some fine, dry weather. It will be a bit cooler.

:06:11.:06:16.

Low pressure moving in, that means scattered showers, some of them

:06:17.:06:21.

heavy at times. This is Saturday. By Sunday, more settled weather and

:06:22.:06:26.

some sunshine as well. Spots of rain overnight tonight, some of it

:06:27.:06:29.

turning out to be moderate in places. Showers and the chilly start

:06:30.:06:36.

the day tomorrow, 8 degrees the minimum temperature. Tomorrow,

:06:37.:06:40.

showers and sunshine in between the showers, winds drudgery changing

:06:41.:06:46.

direction, becoming westerly and then northwesterly to end the day

:06:47.:06:52.

and just 12 degrees the maximum temperature, a fresher, cooler feel

:06:53.:06:57.

to the airport wall of us. Into Sunday, we've got fine weather

:06:58.:07:00.

around. There might be a shower first thing but it will be fine and

:07:01.:07:05.

dry. That stays with us into next week. The only fly in the ordnance

:07:06.:07:11.

could be a bit of rain, patchy, for some of us it is needed. Most of us

:07:12.:07:18.

getting away with dry weather. In a second, a full UK forecast. From all

:07:19.:07:23.

of us, good night. That is it from us. Have a lovely

:07:24.:07:28.

weekend. We're back with the news on Monday at 6:30pm.

:07:29.:07:37.

Hello. There the weekend is here and Sunday looks like being the better

:07:38.:07:43.

day of the two. We're going to start the weekend, a new month, with

:07:44.:07:46.

sunshine and April showers. Those fade away overnight. Saturday night

:07:47.:07:51.

could be chilly. It points to a fine day on Sunday. This picture was

:07:52.:07:53.

taken by a weather
