Good evening and welcome to the late news from BBC Channel Islands,

:00:09.:00:12.

The man and the victim knew one another. There is no suggestion the

:00:13.:00:26.

wider community should be in fear. Also tonight, growing up in Guernsey

:00:27.:00:30.

- young people's survey reveals significant number

:00:31.:00:33.

are unhappy and stressed. A 57-year-old man's been arrested

:00:34.:00:36.

on suspicion of murder after a woman Earlier today detectives said

:00:37.:00:46.

they were investigating the death of a middle-aged woman,

:00:47.:00:54.

who was found at a home A full picture of what happened is

:00:55.:01:10.

still unknown. At 10. 50 this morning, the emergency services were

:01:11.:01:14.

called and the police arrived here on this house in Victoria Street

:01:15.:01:17.

where they found the body of a middle aged woman. We don't know her

:01:18.:01:22.

exact age or any other details because police say they can't

:01:23.:01:26.

publicly confirm her identity until they've informed the rest of her

:01:27.:01:29.

family. This is a fast-moving situation and this afternoon, a

:01:30.:01:33.

57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being

:01:34.:01:36.

questioned in police custody. It's been confirmed that he and the

:01:37.:01:41.

victim knew each other. Earlier, police made this statement at their

:01:42.:01:44.

headquarters at Green Street. This is the very early stages of a murder

:01:45.:01:49.

investigation and it's led by my colleague, senior investigating

:01:50.:01:56.

officer, DCI Alison Fossie, a Home Office pathologist will attend the

:01:57.:02:00.

island to undergo a postmortem in order to help determine the cause of

:02:01.:02:05.

death. Specialist family liaison officers have been appointed to work

:02:06.:02:08.

with and support the family. We are not yet in a position to be able to

:02:09.:02:13.

confirm the identity of the victim. Forensic work is likely to be

:02:14.:02:18.

ongoing at the scene in Victoria Street for some time and a major

:02:19.:02:22.

incident room similarly has been established here at police

:02:23.:02:26.

headquarters. These are the very early stages, as you heard, so

:02:27.:02:30.

there's not much more the police can tell us, they don't now how or when

:02:31.:02:34.

she died or if anyone else was involved. They say public safety is

:02:35.:02:38.

not at risk. Officers have spoken to what they are calling significant

:02:39.:02:41.

witnesses but they're still appealing for anyone who may have

:02:42.:02:45.

heard or seen anything in the past 24 hours on this usually quiet

:02:46.:02:47.

street in St Helier to come forward. A 61-year-old man who grew up

:02:48.:02:50.

in Guernsey has been jailed Keith Baker and his wife Caroline

:02:51.:02:52.

had kidnapped a woman with severe learning difficulties in 2004

:02:53.:02:58.

and subjected her to eight years of horrific sexual assaults

:02:59.:03:02.

while keeping her captive The victim was emaciated and kept

:03:03.:03:06.

in squalid conditions. Baker has been sentenced to 15 years

:03:07.:03:12.

in jail and a further five years That's how some young people

:03:13.:03:17.

in Guernsey view life. That's according to findings from

:03:18.:03:25.

the latest young people's survey. While the majority are content,

:03:26.:03:30.

a significant number say This generation has grown

:03:31.:03:32.

up with the internet And latest research shows

:03:33.:03:42.

that in Guernsey some World Trade Center increase in

:03:43.:03:56.

social media, we face pressureses, not only with image and the spread

:03:57.:03:59.

of a certain way that you're supposed to look, but also possible

:04:00.:04:05.

bullying. Personally, I haven't ever experienced this be I know people

:04:06.:04:09.

who may have felt targeted by certain messages online.

:04:10.:04:10.

There's a significant number who are unhappy

:04:11.:04:12.

Of the 800 respondents, almost a quarter said they didn't

:04:13.:04:17.

like themselves and more than a fifth 42% said

:04:18.:04:19.

More than half of 16-18-year olds believed they would

:04:20.:04:25.

Experts say it's difficult for young people to close the door on their

:04:26.:04:39.

problems. We may have experienced friendship problems for example.

:04:40.:04:43.

When you've got home and shut the door, unless they rang you on the

:04:44.:04:46.

landline, you probably didn't have to deal with that. For children and

:04:47.:04:51.

young people now, those issues present themselves sometimes 24

:04:52.:04:55.

hours a day, 7 days a week through social media and Internet

:04:56.:04:57.

connectivity. That probably exacerbates the issue. It's very

:04:58.:05:00.

difficult for young people to shut the door on some of the things that

:05:01.:05:03.

are presented to them. But despite these pressures some

:05:04.:05:07.

people say they're doing alright. The 21st century's made us very

:05:08.:05:17.

resilient. It's easy to look on the survey in a certain way. There is a

:05:18.:05:22.

lot we can take from it, butters are resilient, we all pick ourselves up

:05:23.:05:25.

regardless of whatever situation and I would say that most young people

:05:26.:05:26.

are positive about the future. Their school days may soon be over

:05:27.:05:29.

but it's hoped that the findings from this survey will help equip

:05:30.:05:32.

future students to cope new hospital could be paid

:05:33.:05:34.

for with existing reserves of money A scrutiny panel suggests

:05:35.:05:50.

using the so-called Rainy Day fund, which currently stands

:05:51.:05:54.

at ?800 million, whereas the Treasury departments plan

:05:55.:05:56.

is for for the States to borrow up to ?400 million to cover

:05:57.:05:58.

most of the costs. If you are happy taking on the risk

:05:59.:06:08.

of a ?400 million debt over and above what we already have, and this

:06:09.:06:14.

will take us up to over a billion in liabilities, is the estimate, if you

:06:15.:06:17.

are happy with that, then fine. If you are not happy about that, then

:06:18.:06:23.

this gives an alternative. Based on independent professional advice,

:06:24.:06:26.

keeping the strategic reserve intact and using that as security to borrow

:06:27.:06:30.

a bond, is the most sensible way forward for the long-term. It

:06:31.:06:34.

protects our position in a very uncertain global world. .

:06:35.:06:37.

The BBC highlighted the increasing number of sexting cases

:06:38.:06:40.

being reported to Jersey Police in yesterday's programme.

:06:41.:06:43.

They are now dealing with incidents involving making and sharing

:06:44.:06:46.

indecent images of children under sixteen every week.

:06:47.:06:48.

Not only is it illegal, but there are warnings

:06:49.:06:53.

of the dangers that come with it, as Emma Chambers explains

:06:54.:06:57.

in our second exclusive report into Sexting.

:06:58.:06:59.

It's a trend that's growing among young people in Jerseymaking friends

:07:00.:07:05.

and even relationships from behind a mobile phone, tablet

:07:06.:07:12.

But it seems the barrier of a screen is making under 16's

:07:13.:07:15.

more confident in what they text and what they send.

:07:16.:07:17.

Essentially speeding up the flirting process by sharing explicit images

:07:18.:07:20.

Jersey Police are warning of the dangers these children

:07:21.:07:28.

are putting themselves in not only online but when those digital

:07:29.:07:32.

Potentially when young people turn up to that meeting knowing in the

:07:33.:07:43.

back of their mind they probably have to, in their mind, albeit they

:07:44.:07:46.

don't, but they feel in the back of their mind maybe they have to go

:07:47.:07:50.

through something that they are really not comfortable with because

:07:51.:07:52.

of the image they sent and the position they put themselves in.

:07:53.:07:56.

That's a really, really dangerous situation. A danger the charities

:07:57.:08:07.

are worried about. They are warning not to send the picture or video in

:08:08.:08:11.

the first place, but also what to do in the first place. Ask them to

:08:12.:08:15.

delete it. If they are not prepared to do that and they post it online,

:08:16.:08:19.

that's where it's a real concern for us because that then can cause that

:08:20.:08:25.

child or young person to be further exploited or be victimised or

:08:26.:08:29.

bullied. You can contact ChildLine and speak to an NSPCC counsellor who

:08:30.:08:35.

will be able to look at having that image removed.

:08:36.:08:46.

They believe education is key to make young people

:08:47.:08:48.

realise what they should and shouldn't share.

:08:49.:08:51.

Tomorrow is the middle of the week, so as we head towards the weekend

:08:52.:08:54.

let's see what the weather has to offer with David Braine.

:08:55.:08:59.

. Hello. We have had a down day today. It's been cloudy with spits

:09:00.:09:07.

of light rain and drizzle. A big improvement for tomorrow. There's

:09:08.:09:11.

more in the way of sunshine. Fine and dry with decent spells of

:09:12.:09:15.

sunshine and lighter winds than we've seen today as well. This area

:09:16.:09:18.

of high pressure will be with us for quite a few days. It's to the west

:09:19.:09:24.

at the moment, but it gets closer by midday tomorrow and gradually creeps

:09:25.:09:27.

towards us as we head towards the end of the week. By Friday, it's

:09:28.:09:32.

pretty much right over us, so settled dry weather and a bit cold

:09:33.:09:35.

at night with fine weather during the day time. The cloud we have had

:09:36.:09:41.

today has been stubborn in places. It's capable of producing the odd

:09:42.:09:46.

bit of drizzle. Later on, that cloud will disapoor which means we'll end

:09:47.:09:50.

up with a cold night, as the skies clear and the cloud dissipates and

:09:51.:09:55.

temperatures could get to single firs. -- single figures. Tomorrow we

:09:56.:10:06.

have some sunshine. The patchy cloud will come and go but won't spoil the

:10:07.:10:10.

day. The wind continue to drop. Those are temperatures we can expect

:10:11.:10:14.

in the shade but it will feel warmer in the sunshine. Should be a fine

:10:15.:10:20.

day. The warmth has arrived across Spain and Portugal. Still on the

:10:21.:10:23.

fresh side across a good part of France, certainly up into eastern

:10:24.:10:27.

parts of Europe where temperatures are low. This is where the air will

:10:28.:10:32.

come from until later on in the week, then it starts to warm up. A

:10:33.:10:36.

gradual trend for higher temperatures as we head towards the

:10:37.:10:40.

weekend. By Saturday, 17-19 possible. Mostly fine and dry with

:10:41.:10:45.

sunshine but also a bit cool at night. Have a good night.

:10:46.:10:48.

That's it from Tuesday's late news team, BBC Radio Guernsey and Jersey

:10:49.:10:51.

will bring you the latest news from six tomorrow morning

:10:52.:10:53.

Alison will back with your BBC Channel Islands News

:10:54.:10:56.

bit from the south, so we could get to 18 or higher on Sunday. Now the

:10:57.:11:03.

national focus. Good evening, things are looking good in the next

:11:04.:11:14.

few days, some pressure drifting in from the Atlantic, bringing some

:11:15.:11:17.

finance settled with it. Just some questions about the amount of cloud

:11:18.:11:21.

we will see under that. The cloud we saw the sea links gave rise to a

:11:22.:11:24.

lovely sunsets are many areas. This is the view from one of our weather

:11:25.:11:28.

watchers in Cornwall. Look at the tones in the sky in Warwickshire

:11:29.:11:32.

this evening. Here is the satellite sequence which

:11:33.:11:35.

shows it was pretty gloomy on

:11:36.:11:36.
