Tonight we assess the mood for a Mayor. | :00:09. | :00:17.
Revving up interest in a referendum, on choosing Nottingham's political | :00:17. | :00:27.
:00:27. | :00:27. | ||
boss. Celebrating a victory, after his | :00:27. | :00:31.
King as he has won back his allotment. | :00:31. | :00:34.
On this tiny diamond is a microscopic picture, but what is it | :00:34. | :00:44.
:00:44. | :00:46. | ||
Good evening, welcome to Wednesday's programme. First | :00:46. | :00:48.
tonight, two influential voices have today backed the campaign for | :00:48. | :00:53.
Nottingham to have an all-powerful city mayor. Lord Heseltine says a | :00:53. | :00:58.
yes vote will boost the local economy. We'll hear from him in a | :00:58. | :01:00.
moment. And a business leader too supports | :01:00. | :01:03.
it - he says a mayor will help Nottingham to "punch above its | :01:03. | :01:06.
weight.". But one of the city's MPs says he's just not convinced of the | :01:06. | :01:09.
need and is urging a no vote. Here's our Political Editor John | :01:09. | :01:17.
Hess. Chartered surveyor Tim Garrett has | :01:17. | :01:21.
big ambitions for Nottingham. He has been advising the city council | :01:22. | :01:27.
on promoting Robin Hood as a global brand. Attracting world investment | :01:27. | :01:32.
into Nottingham is his business. generate a profile, we need to be | :01:32. | :01:36.
more visible. But he believes the current council set up his off- | :01:36. | :01:40.
target. He wants a City mayor to make the big decisions in | :01:40. | :01:44.
Nottingham. Inward investment is hugely important to this city and | :01:44. | :01:49.
we have to get more jobs here, more opportunities for people to get | :01:49. | :01:55.
work, and I think that ultimately, a mayor here would do that. Poster | :01:55. | :02:00.
sites in Nottingham already give the Labour-run city's view on | :02:00. | :02:05.
having a directly elected mayor. It is against and once a no vote in | :02:05. | :02:07.
the referendum. From tomorrow, the case for | :02:07. | :02:12.
Nottingham to have a City mayor will appear in the local paper. | :02:12. | :02:17.
Between now and polling day on May 3rd, this is the message the Yes | :02:17. | :02:20.
campaigners will attempt to get across. Wadham Nottingham's MPs | :02:20. | :02:26.
warms to the idea of having a City mayor, but not for his own city. | :02:26. | :02:31.
Nottingham's case, there is an extra cost involved. We have a | :02:31. | :02:35.
stable and clear leadership and quite frankly, of all the things to | :02:35. | :02:39.
have a referendum on in Nottingham, I think this is a low priority. | :02:39. | :02:44.
Under the current political set-up, Nottingham's leader John Collins is | :02:44. | :02:50.
elected by the city's labour politicians. A City mayor is a | :02:50. | :02:55.
directly elected by the people and runs the Council for four-year | :02:55. | :02:58.
terms. Nottingham labour claimed the city | :02:58. | :03:02.
Mayer would cost an extra 1 million at a time when council | :03:02. | :03:07.
finances are being squeezed. That is the message being crossed -- put | :03:07. | :03:12.
across by the Labour Party in newspapers like this. | :03:12. | :03:15.
Well, Lord Heseltine, a former deputy prime minister, is a leading | :03:15. | :03:18.
advocate for city mayors. A short time ago he joined us from our | :03:18. | :03:21.
Westminster studio. And first we asked him why he thought Nottingham | :03:21. | :03:29.
needed a city mayor? Because the great English cities | :03:29. | :03:33.
are being squeezed out in the battle between Boris Johnson | :03:33. | :03:38.
fighting for London, Alex Salmond fighting for Scotland, and Labour | :03:38. | :03:41.
authorities are now realising as you can see in Leicester where | :03:41. | :03:45.
Peter Salsbury has become the Labour mayor, where Joe Anderson in | :03:45. | :03:51.
Liverpool as argued they should have a Mayer, where a member of Ed | :03:51. | :03:55.
Miliband's cabinet will resign in order to be the mayor of Birmingham, | :03:55. | :03:59.
great English cities want to help reverse the North-South divide and | :03:59. | :04:02.
they need powerful, accountable, identifiable leaders in order to | :04:03. | :04:09.
bring that about. But Labour here says that a Salonika -- see p mayor | :04:09. | :04:15.
will cost 1 million at a time when budgets are being cut. It is silly. | :04:15. | :04:19.
The Labour leader in Nottingham earns a fraction of a civil servant | :04:19. | :04:24.
in charge of Nottingham. Merge the two and you save money. What about | :04:24. | :04:29.
the issue of accountability? If a mayor turns out to be incompetent, | :04:29. | :04:33.
do the voters have the way four years to vote in another Mayer? | :04:33. | :04:40.
can get bad people in any form of government, but the fact is that in | :04:40. | :04:44.
Nottingham in the nude male arrangements, the people would | :04:44. | :04:54.
choose the leader and they would re-elect all relate the successor. | :04:54. | :04:57.
-- new mayor will arrangements. No one knows who the leaders are now. | :04:57. | :05:02.
That is not how you can compete as a great city on an ever important | :05:02. | :05:07.
international stage where you are looking for investment. Finally, do | :05:07. | :05:12.
you think so much power should be in the hands of one person? | :05:12. | :05:16.
isn't. There are a huge number of people employed, councillors, media, | :05:16. | :05:21.
but what matters is the relationship with London. London is | :05:21. | :05:25.
overbearing, over centralising, over-powerful, and you need someone | :05:25. | :05:28.
in Nottingham to stand up and try and reverse that process to make | :05:28. | :05:33.
the local people more important. Lord Heseltine, thank you. | :05:33. | :05:35.
A 51-year-old man's appeared in court charged with the attempted | :05:35. | :05:39.
murder of a four-year-old boy. Steve Frogg, of Frederick Street in | :05:39. | :05:43.
Mansfield, was remanded in custody for a fortnight. The boy was found | :05:43. | :05:46.
with serious injuries, which are believed to be stab wounds, in the | :05:46. | :05:50.
same street on Monday. He's in a conscious and stable condition at | :05:51. | :06:00.
:06:01. | :06:10. | ||
the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. | :06:10. | :06:12.
A lorry driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries | :06:12. | :06:15.
after an accident which has closed part of the M1 in Nottinghamshire. | :06:15. | :06:18.
The accident involving two cars and a lorry happened at lunchtime. The | :06:18. | :06:21.
southbound carriageway has been shut between junctions 26 and 25. | :06:21. | :06:24.
The northbound carriageway of the motorway was also shut for a short | :06:24. | :06:26.
time. The remains of a body found in a | :06:26. | :06:29.
Derbyshire village 10 days ago have been identified as those of a | :06:29. | :06:32.
missing pensioner. Janet Bacon, who was 74 and from Mansfield, was last | :06:32. | :06:35.
seen in September. Her body was found during a fingertip search of | :06:35. | :06:38.
an area of rough ground in New Houghton, near Bolsover. Derbyshire | :06:38. | :06:40.
Police say her death is not being treated as suspicious. | :06:40. | :06:43.
Plenty more to look forward to here on BBC East Midlands Today, | :06:43. | :06:45.
including: The council accused of losing the | :06:45. | :06:48.
plot, changes its mind and lets Arthur return to his allotted patch | :06:48. | :06:58.
:06:58. | :06:58. | ||
An investigation's to be carried out after more than 500 patients | :06:58. | :07:05.
had their surgery put off this year at Nottingham's two main hospitals. | :07:05. | :07:08.
The management at the hospitals have blamed a big increase in | :07:08. | :07:11.
emergency admissions. One consultant says the Queen's Medical | :07:11. | :07:17.
Centre is simply full to capacity. Today another patient spoke out | :07:17. | :07:20.
after her operation was called off again for the second time. Mike | :07:20. | :07:30.
O'Sullivan reports. Former fitness instructor Tracy | :07:30. | :07:34.
Crawford was due to have a hip operation tomorrow. But today, it | :07:34. | :07:38.
was cancelled. Disappointment for her and her daughter Natalie. The | :07:38. | :07:43.
second time it has been called off. I feel absolutely devastated. I | :07:43. | :07:47.
have had to rearrange all of my child care plans, my family | :07:48. | :07:52.
commitments, my work arrangements, all of my plans for the rest of the | :07:52. | :07:57.
year with my family. They are effectively on hold. The leading | :07:57. | :08:00.
surgeon at the Queen's Medical Centre says some cancer operations | :08:00. | :08:05.
have been delayed. The hospital is simply full to capacity. Part of | :08:05. | :08:09.
our problem is that it is difficult to find everything that is required. | :08:09. | :08:14.
With cost cutting, that has obviously made life more difficult. | :08:14. | :08:24.
:08:24. | :08:44. | ||
The hospital's Trust has apologised Tracey's operation was one of seven | :08:44. | :08:46.
cancelled on Monday and Tuesday. There will be no more routine | :08:46. | :08:50.
surgery at the hospital this week. With the number of delayed | :08:50. | :08:54.
operations so far totalling 500, the local health scrutiny committee | :08:55. | :09:02.
is now asking managers to explain what is going on. | :09:02. | :09:05.
A council's reversed its decision to evict a pensioner from his | :09:05. | :09:08.
allotment. Arthur Martin from Eastwood was given notice to leave | :09:08. | :09:13.
his plot. The council said his bad hip was a safety hazard. | :09:13. | :09:16.
Residents protested at last night's council meeting. They said the move | :09:17. | :09:18.
could lead to discrimination against people with physical | :09:19. | :09:28.
:09:29. | :09:29. | ||
disabilities who rent allotments. Our reporter Jo Healey is there now. | :09:29. | :09:36.
Hello. It has been a hard fought battle, but Arthur is the king. His | :09:36. | :09:43.
Raoul Moat, or should I say his allotment, has been restored to him. | :09:43. | :09:49.
It needs a fair bit of work so he needs supporters like we saw last | :09:49. | :09:56.
night protesting outside of council meetings. -- his realm it. Last | :09:56. | :10:00.
night's meeting was stormy, but today of the said he was delighted | :10:00. | :10:06.
with its decision. Can I just say to you, we came here, we did not | :10:06. | :10:10.
think we would get that decision last night. We were determined to | :10:10. | :10:15.
fight. But the fight is now over. Today for the first time since last | :10:15. | :10:20.
night's meeting, some of the protesters met some of the | :10:20. | :10:27.
councillors at the allotment. were tarred with the same brush, | :10:27. | :10:31.
but you came out clean! The name of the council was not coming out well | :10:31. | :10:38.
and so there foal I hope that if nothing else, Eid Wharf -- East | :10:38. | :10:45.
what town council's name will be restored. We were very pleased with | :10:45. | :10:51.
the outcome, for everyone, young and old alike. So why was the | :10:51. | :10:54.
letter to evict barber from his allotment ever sent? These | :10:54. | :10:59.
councillors admit it was not a full council decision. We will move on | :10:59. | :11:02.
from his, we have learnt from it and hope we will work together in | :11:02. | :11:07.
the town. There are other people in this a moment too well in the same | :11:07. | :11:11.
position. Arthur has been a flagship that represents them. | :11:11. | :11:17.
should be supporting the allotment holders and a hope they realise | :11:17. | :11:21.
that. They realise that our fair needs help getting his allotment | :11:21. | :11:25.
back into shape and his supporters say they are ready to roll up their | :11:25. | :11:27.
sleeves. People are stealing food from shops, | :11:27. | :11:31.
because the+y can't afford to eat. That's according to a senior | :11:31. | :11:34.
Nottinghamshire police officer, who says it's fuelling an increase in | :11:34. | :11:39.
thefts at a time when most crime's been falling sharply. | :11:39. | :11:43.
And organised crime gangs are turning to shoplifting too. Our | :11:43. | :11:45.
Social Affairs Correspondent, Jeremy Ball has been looking into | :11:45. | :11:49.
this and can tell us more. This all came out at Nottinghamshire's | :11:49. | :11:52.
Police Authority today, didn't it? Yes. We heard the annual crime | :11:52. | :11:57.
figures are going to see another big improvement. But there was a | :11:57. | :12:00.
warning that thefts have bucked that trend. They've risen slightly. | :12:00. | :12:04.
A lot of that's down to shoplifting. And the police said this isn't just | :12:04. | :12:07.
about drug addicts. They think more and more people are stealing from | :12:07. | :12:15.
shops, because they're desperate to eat. Historically, stereotypically, | :12:15. | :12:23.
there would be drunks who would steal 5 or 10 with which you can | :12:23. | :12:28.
score drugs. These days, some about food is being stolen to feed the | :12:28. | :12:32.
individuals who steal it. We know that because we are talking to | :12:32. | :12:35.
criminals and asking them why they have stolen it. That pattern is | :12:35. | :12:37.
changing. And what else are shoplifters | :12:37. | :12:39.
doing? Well, Nottinghamshire Police say | :12:39. | :12:41.
they're now seeing "online shoplifting" where people buy | :12:41. | :12:43.
things fraudulently, and organised crime gangs are targeting shops for | :12:43. | :12:48.
more expensive items. Raids like this one, at Hamilton in Leicester, | :12:48. | :12:55.
late on Easter Sunday. Where this gang stole almost 7,000 of | :12:55. | :12:58.
cigarettes from a branch of Tesco, and the police think other traders | :12:58. | :13:01.
could do more to protect themselves and they say stores can do that by | :13:01. | :13:03.
upgrading their CCTV and by challenging shoplifters, rather | :13:03. | :13:06.
than waiting to ring the police once they've gone. Money is tight | :13:06. | :13:10.
whatever weight you look. People need to eat quite simply. But there | :13:10. | :13:15.
is also the temptation there, and if stores worked harder at | :13:15. | :13:18.
diminishing that temptation, I think we could see a real reduction | :13:18. | :13:23.
in crime. The police say that stores can do | :13:23. | :13:27.
that by are upgrading their CCTV systems, also by challenging | :13:27. | :13:37.
:13:37. | :13:49. | ||
shoplifters and rather than waiting for them to leave it to the police. | :13:49. | :13:51.
A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car at Bilborough | :13:52. | :13:54.
in Nottingham this morning. The driver of a silver Astra was | :13:54. | :13:57.
uninjured. Several roads in the area were closed leading to long | :13:57. | :13:59.
delays. Buses were diverted as police investigated the scene. | :13:59. | :14:01.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to contact them. | :14:02. | :14:04.
Investigations are continuing to establish what caused an explosion | :14:04. | :14:06.
at an electricity substation in West Bridgford. A loud bang was | :14:07. | :14:09.
heard at about ten o'clock last night. People living in Northwold | :14:09. | :14:12.
Avenue were told to leave their homes because of fears of another | :14:12. | :14:14.
explosion. Western Power Distribution say it hasn't affected | :14:14. | :14:20.
the power supply in the area. Sport's on its way here on BBC East | :14:20. | :14:23.
Midlands Today, and something else has a sporting theme too, as we | :14:23. | :14:26.
catch up with the artist who's making a splash for the Olympic | :14:26. | :14:32.
sailing team. A Derbyshire charity says it's | :14:32. | :14:35.
vital to employ more nurses to help care for terminally ill people who | :14:35. | :14:39.
want to die at home. Treetops hospice in Risley already | :14:39. | :14:42.
runs a service providing specialist care, but as demand rises it's | :14:42. | :14:52.
:14:52. | :14:54. | ||
hoping to recruit more staff. Geeta Pendse reports. | :14:54. | :14:58.
Deep in activity is at the hospice in this league. Does it are in the | :14:58. | :15:03.
early stages of a term as -- a terminal illness so busy day care | :15:03. | :15:06.
at the centre. The charity also sense nurses to the nuns of those | :15:07. | :15:11.
who require more intensive support. Jane is a volunteer, but she knows | :15:11. | :15:15.
the importance of those visits. Two years ago, her husband died of | :15:15. | :15:19.
cancer and the charity were there to help in the final stages. I have | :15:19. | :15:23.
got to the point where I was finding it difficult to cope with | :15:23. | :15:27.
looking after a family and John as well. Just to have somebody there | :15:27. | :15:32.
that had got the medical knowledge and the experience to be able to | :15:32. | :15:38.
give him any painkillers that he needed, it was a weight off my | :15:38. | :15:43.
shoulders. The charity currently has 18 of 40 nurses providing | :15:43. | :15:48.
20,000 hours of care, but they want to double that number. | :15:48. | :15:50.
government initiatives are saying that that is what they would prefer, | :15:50. | :15:55.
that people have that choice to die at home and have their care in | :15:55. | :15:59.
their preferred place. Essentially, that is what we are aiming to do, | :15:59. | :16:05.
to develop a service. Linda has breast cancer and currently | :16:05. | :16:08.
receives day-care. She says it is a huge comfort to know there will be | :16:08. | :16:12.
support for her family. It takes away the worry so that at least you | :16:12. | :16:19.
know that they will get cared for as well. When the time comes. | :16:19. | :16:22.
hospice is hoping to raise enough money so they can expand and | :16:22. | :16:28.
provide crucial help to families at a time when they most need it. | :16:28. | :16:32.
Next tonight, a small tribute to Her Majesty the Queen. In fact it's | :16:32. | :16:35.
a very small tribute. Scientists have managed to engrave | :16:35. | :16:39.
an image of the Queen on a tiny diamond. | :16:39. | :16:42.
It's been created as part of the celebrations to mark Her Majesty's | :16:42. | :16:45.
Diamond Jubilee. But what will happen to the diamond now? Simon | :16:45. | :16:54.
Ward reports. We have quite a big chamber that we | :16:54. | :17:00.
can fit samples on. This is where the magic happens. The | :17:00. | :17:03.
nanotechnology centre at the University of Nottingham. The | :17:03. | :17:10.
diamond was placed in this machine, ready to be engraved. | :17:10. | :17:14.
Basically blasted bits of the diamond out with an iron beam, so | :17:14. | :17:19.
we are firing the heavy bits of atoms at the carbon in the Diamond, | :17:19. | :17:24.
knocking it out. We did that accurately so we can produce a very | :17:24. | :17:29.
small village. This magnified image shows the result. The picture of | :17:29. | :17:34.
the Queen is so small you could fit 300,000 on a normal postage stamp. | :17:34. | :17:38.
The team have uploaded a video showing their project online, | :17:38. | :17:43.
attracting worldwide interest. The object itself is invaluable, but it | :17:43. | :17:48.
is unique. It is an industrial diamond, it was originally from a | :17:48. | :17:52.
piece of scientific equipment. We did it because the diamond looked | :17:52. | :17:56.
broken so it was spared. And it is the only one of its type in the | :17:56. | :17:59.
world now, right? Unless other people have been pretty images of | :17:59. | :18:04.
the Queen on diamonds, Yes! University isn't quite sure what to | :18:04. | :18:09.
do with the Diana now, but people organising the Diamond Jubilee | :18:09. | :18:14.
celebrations might be of use it as part of their event. | :18:14. | :18:19.
That is amazing, 300,000 of those images on one postage stamp! | :18:19. | :18:23.
Unbelievable! First tonight some bad news for | :18:23. | :18:25.
Nottingham Forest. They've failed to get Gareth McCleary's suspension | :18:25. | :18:28.
overturned. He was sent off in Monday's win at Peterborough for | :18:28. | :18:32.
this foul. Manager Steve Cotterill was confident they'd get the red | :18:32. | :18:37.
card rescinded but their appeal has been unsuccessful. He'll now miss | :18:37. | :18:40.
the next three games as they look to pull further away from | :18:40. | :18:43.
relegation. Further up the table and Derby | :18:43. | :18:46.
County manager Nigel Clough is still not writing his team off from | :18:46. | :18:51.
finishing in the play-offs. They're six points off with four games to | :18:51. | :18:59.
go. -- five points off. He admits they're a big outside bet but | :18:59. | :19:03.
they'll fight to the end. We would do everything we can in the last | :19:03. | :19:08.
four games, but that might not be enough. We are playing card of the | :19:08. | :19:12.
way in the next two. We will know more after those for two games. -- | :19:12. | :19:15.
Cardiff away. We're little over three months away | :19:15. | :19:18.
from the Olympics and many of our athletes are still battling for | :19:18. | :19:21.
their place at London 2012. And there'll be one big battle going on | :19:21. | :19:25.
in Nottinghamshire this weekend. Canoeist Tim Brabants will compete | :19:25. | :19:29.
in an event that will help to decide if he gets to go for yet | :19:29. | :19:39.
:19:39. | :19:47. | ||
It is gold now for Tim! Tim won a gold in Beijing, the | :19:47. | :19:51.
first ever Brit to win one in the sport. If he makes London, it will | :19:51. | :19:56.
be his 4th Olympics. But all these years on from his first games, his | :19:56. | :20:01.
appetite for success remains the same. But less hair then I did | :20:01. | :20:06.
then! I'm a lot more experienced, I have learned more about myself | :20:07. | :20:11.
through training and racing. The same competitors of there and we | :20:11. | :20:21.
:20:21. | :20:24. | ||
race at the same pace. I am a bit wiser now! | :20:24. | :20:31.
He will have to prove they he is in the best over three coming races. | :20:31. | :20:34.
Everyone in sport has to compete against everyone else in the | :20:35. | :20:39.
country to get places. It would be very dull if you did not have to | :20:39. | :20:43.
compete feel spot because how do you push yourself an improved if | :20:43. | :20:49.
the only people you have got to compete against a York | :20:49. | :20:56.
International races? The past few years have seen 10 expense highs | :20:56. | :21:02.
and lows. He gave up the sport and to concentrate on his medical | :21:02. | :21:07.
career and more recently, he had to fight back from his illness. | :21:07. | :21:15.
looking at winning medals, not just getting qualifications. Athletes | :21:15. | :21:19.
tend to be quite positive and you like the challenge of coming back | :21:19. | :21:23.
from adversity and problems like that. It makes you feel like more | :21:23. | :21:28.
of an accomplishment when you achieve the result you want. It | :21:28. | :21:32.
would be boring if it was all easy. Tim competes in the canoe sprint in | :21:32. | :21:35.
the canoe slalom there's also a big weekend ahead for two silver medal | :21:35. | :21:39.
winners from Athens and Beijing. They have their one and only chance | :21:40. | :21:45.
to qualify for the London Games. Now, the team used to be based in | :21:45. | :21:48.
Nottingham but have now moved to the Olympic Course at Lee Valley. | :21:48. | :21:51.
Campbell Walsh is still living here in the East Midlands. David | :21:51. | :21:54.
Florence who won silver four years ago also made Nottingham his second | :21:54. | :22:00.
home. They both want medals. But first they have the pressure of | :22:00. | :22:06.
making the team. I am 34 and I have been going | :22:06. | :22:12.
through this process since I was 14. I have done this 20 times before so | :22:12. | :22:16.
I am kind of used to it. We know what it is like, we know it is one | :22:16. | :22:21.
weekend. The most worrying thing is not to get ill or injured. If you | :22:21. | :22:25.
are, then that is it. That is the most concerning thing. | :22:25. | :22:28.
Well, one person who can definitely plan for London 2012 is | :22:28. | :22:31.
Nottinghamshire's Natalie Blake. The powerlifter's been named in the | :22:31. | :22:40.
British Paralympic squad today so congratulations to her! | :22:40. | :22:43.
Indeed, congratulations. A Nottinghamshire artist who took | :22:43. | :22:46.
up painting after he retired will be making waves at this year's | :22:46. | :22:48.
London Olympics. The Royal Yachting Association has | :22:48. | :22:50.
asked Brian West from Farndon, near Newark, to produce an original | :22:50. | :22:53.
painting showing the British sailing team in action. Geoff | :22:53. | :23:03.
:23:03. | :23:05. | ||
He has been a sportsman since he was a teenager, but it is art not | :23:05. | :23:10.
athleticism that is taken prime west to the Olympics this summer. | :23:10. | :23:15.
For a frustrated armchair sportsman to be involved this closely in this | :23:15. | :23:24.
way with sports, it is a nice feeling. In 2012, I have a | :23:24. | :23:29.
particular Wrabness to be involved this way with the Olympics. -- | :23:29. | :23:34.
particular pride. Brian has been awarded the commission to paint the | :23:34. | :23:38.
Olympic sailing teams. It is the 5th time he has been called on to | :23:38. | :23:44.
paint the National sailors. Primarily it is movement. I call my | :23:44. | :23:49.
work trying to capture the colour in movement. It is a bit like still | :23:49. | :23:56.
framed photography, you have to do it at a certain speed. It has to be | :23:56. | :24:06.
:24:06. | :24:10. | ||
-- has to convey the action. Also, I have an obligation to make it | :24:10. | :24:17.
real whiff connection to politeness. The original prints will be sold to | :24:17. | :24:21.
raise money for the British sailing team. | :24:21. | :24:31.
:24:31. | :24:34. | ||
We have had the sunshine and showers around today. Reports of | :24:34. | :24:39.
bone and pale as well in parts of the East Midlands, and some showers | :24:39. | :24:42.
will be stubborn overnight tonight, although drying up for a time. | :24:42. | :24:52.
:24:52. | :24:53. | ||
Firstly, this photo of two men in bless crowds. -- this photo of | :24:53. | :24:57.
clouds. If you have any stormy photos like this, please send them | :24:57. | :25:01.
to us. Low pressure firmly anchored, bringing in these showers and | :25:01. | :25:05.
keeping us unsettled for the next two days. The if sunshine and | :25:05. | :25:09.
showers will be staying with us until the weekend. Still some | :25:09. | :25:12.
showers around at the moment, a bit of Hayle in places, and you might | :25:12. | :25:15.
still hear the odd rumble of thunder this evening before they | :25:15. | :25:20.
die out overnight tonight. Just a couple will be stubborn and places, | :25:20. | :25:24.
but you will see some dry and clear spells at times. Temperatures | :25:24. | :25:29.
falling close to freezing, possibly lower in rural or sheltered spots. | :25:29. | :25:34.
Thursday, we do it all again, another day of sunshine and showers, | :25:34. | :25:37.
the showers increasing in intensity in the afternoon. Again you could | :25:38. | :25:44.
get Hayle and possibly some thunder. At best, a high of 11 Celsius. | :25:44. | :25:49.
Light winds for Thursday, so showers will be slow. On Friday, a | :25:49. | :25:53.
cold front will sink South, bringing in cold air so you will | :25:53. | :25:56.
notice the temperatures will be a bit lower. Showers on Friday and | :25:56. | :26:02.
that is how it stays in to Saturday. Sunshine and showers on Saturday. A | :26:02. | :26:06.
high of nine degrees. At night, a frost will take us down to freezing. | :26:06. | :26:10.
Sunday more in the wake of sunshine. Temperatures below and feeling | :26:10. | :26:17.
chilly for this time of year. We will not be seen much are you as | :26:17. | :26:21. |
