for Now the news for the East Midlands.

Good evening, I'm Simon Ward. A 50`year`old man's been charged

with murder after a body was found at a house in Nottingham. Ian

Cammack was found dead here on Bobbers Mill Road in Hyson Green

last Saturday. He was 35 years old and he died from serious chest

injuries. Today David Gill from Ruddington was accused of Mr

Cammack's murder. He's due to appear in court tomorrow.

Sports stars, religious leaders and tireless volunteers are among dozens

of people in the East Midlands given New Year Honours. 48 people across

the region have been rewarded, covering a range of ages and

backgrounds. Tom Brown reports now on just some of those who've been

recognised. For almost 20 years, this doctor has

looked after terminally ill children in Leicestershire. Young people and

their families come here for physical and emotional care. Now the

doctor has been rewarded with an MBA. `` MBE. To say I was gobsmacked

would be an understatement. I knew nothing about it. This is not just

about the hospice, it is about the East Midlands and the people who put

the coins into the charity boxes. You wanted something special,

hopefully we have built something special. Now it is recognised we are

doing something good. It is really good he got it. He is a nice man and

a good doctor. I am very happy that he got it. Also in Leicestershire,

an OBE for the man who led the team that found the remains of Richard

III. And this met Paula gets an MBE. `` this netball player. It was a

complete and utter shock. You do not play for those reasons. But when

something like this comes along, it is really nice. The Prime Minister

was on a trade wishing to India earlier this year `` trade mission.

In the show, former county cricketer and England selector has been given

an OBE. The man behind Derby's multi`faith centre gets an MBA. ``

and MBE. After thousands of people in

Loughborough and surrounding villages were left without water on

Boxing Day, a new pipe is now being installed. The replacement section

is being fitted at Kegworth after the burst 0

The water supply had already been restored. The A6 Derby Road between

Kegworth and Junction 24 of the M1 remains closed as work continues. We

have had a specially fabricated pipe. It has been connected up this

morning. It will need a couple of days for the concrete to set. Then

we will need to be concentrating on the road reconstruction. The road

will be fully open by Monday, the 6th of January.

Firefighters have gone on strike again a short time ago as part of

their long`running dispute with the government over pensions. Across the

region, members of the Fire Brigades Union started a six hour walk at

6.30pm. They're fighting plans to raise their retirement age from 55

to 60 and to increase their pension contributions. The Government says

it's still a generous public pension scheme.

A deputy head teacher has won an award from a chief constable for his

work to teach pupils about the dangers of extremism and terrorism.

Neil Wilkinson from the Bemrose School in Derby received the award

from Derbyshire Police. James Roberson reports. My name is Holly.

They have already had classes to teach pupils about the dangers of

alcohol, now this school has been tackling another tough topic, the

hazards of extremism and the possible road to terrorism. 70% of

the school's pupils come from ethnic minorities. The deputy head has won

an award for his work with the police training students about

radicalisation. The message is for all students. It is about society

being safe and the community we live in being safe. Also, everybody

understanding what to do in the event should there be God forbid any

accident or event like that, how people should respond and what is

the best way for all of our communities to work together for

safety? We are teaching them about the dangers of radicalisation. We

worked very closely with the school. We are not scaremongering. We are

giving the right and that of information at the right time. The

school will run further courses for years seven and eight next year.

An enormous sinkhole has appeared in the Derbyshire Peak District and

locals say it's still growing. The hole is thought to be around 160ft

wide. A walker first spotted it on Christmas Day just outside the

village of Foolow. It's thought to be above an old lead mine. One local

resident says he reckons it's already grown by 10% since it first

opened and it's still getting bigger.

Lead thieves have targeted a Grade`I listed building in Leicestershire.

Sections of 17th`century lead`work were stolen from the Sir John Moore

Foundation in Appleby Magna during the early hours of 27th December.

More than 16 ornate brackets and 20 meters of lead were taken and staff

say it feels like part of their heritage has been stolen. It is

something we cannot get back. It is heartbreaking to lose it. Hopefully,

we will get it back. If we do not, we will replace it. We might stick

new initials on it to mark another period of history. We will go

forward to next year and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the rescue.

Now onto the weather with Charlie. There are a few showers around

tonight. First of all, this is what it looks like at the moment. A

couple of showers starting to drift over these midlands. Approaching

midnight, the showers will move in. They are light and Rosalie. Although

there is all of the dry weather, the umbrella should be in your pocket or

in your bag. The last thing you want is for one of the showers to find

you. New Year's Day, the rain is certainly going to find you. That is

heading our way once we head into the middle part of the morning. A

very poor day to start 2014 weather`wise. A lot of heavy rain at

times. The wind will be very strong as well. The only thing to smile at

the temperatures. Thursday, it is not a bad day. But bad again for the

pyrotechnics in the run-up to bid night tonight. We have some heavy

showers in western parts, starting to ease a bit across Scotland and

Northern Ireland. But the showers further south are heavier, with some

flashes of lightning as they move eastwards. They do get a bit more

hit and miss as we head towards midnight, but a greater chance of

getting wet in the south as we move into 2014. Cardiff and London could
