last Saturday. He was 35 years old and he died from serious chest | :00:29. | :00:31.
injuries. Today David Gill from Ruddington was accused of Mr | :00:32. | :00:34.

Sports stars, religious leaders and tireless volunteers are among dozens | :00:38. | :00:40.
of people in the East Midlands given New Year Honours. 48 people across | :00:41. | :00:43.
the region have been rewarded, covering a range of ages and | :00:44. | :00:46.
backgrounds. Tom Brown reports now on just some of those who've been | :00:47. | :00:54.
recognised. For almost 20 years, this doctor has | :00:55. | :01:01.
looked after terminally ill children in Leicestershire. Young people and | :01:02. | :01:04.
their families come here for physical and emotional care. Now the | :01:05. | :01:09.
doctor has been rewarded with an MBA. `` MBE. To say I was gobsmacked | :01:10. | :01:18.
would be an understatement. I knew nothing about it. This is not just | :01:19. | :01:23.
about the hospice, it is about the East Midlands and the people who put | :01:24. | :01:30.
the coins into the charity boxes. You wanted something special, | :01:31. | :01:33.
hopefully we have built something special. Now it is recognised we are | :01:34. | :01:38.
doing something good. It is really good he got it. He is a nice man and | :01:39. | :01:43.
a good doctor. I am very happy that he got it. Also in Leicestershire, | :01:44. | :01:49.
an OBE for the man who led the team that found the remains of Richard | :01:50. | :01:58.
III. And this met Paula gets an MBE. `` this netball player. It was a | :01:59. | :02:09.
complete and utter shock. You do not play for those reasons. But when | :02:10. | :02:13.
something like this comes along, it is really nice. The Prime Minister | :02:14. | :02:19.
was on a trade wishing to India earlier this year `` trade mission. | :02:20. | :02:28.
In the show, former county cricketer and England selector has been given | :02:29. | :02:36.
an OBE. The man behind Derby's multi`faith centre gets an MBA. `` | :02:37. | :02:44.
and MBE. After thousands of people in | :02:45. | :02:46.
Loughborough and surrounding villages were left without water on | :02:47. | :02:50.
Boxing Day, a new pipe is now being installed. The replacement section | :02:51. | :02:52.
is being fitted at Kegworth after the burst 0 | :02:53. | :02:53.
is being fitted at Kegworth after the burst in the 100`year`old pipe. | :02:54. | :02:56.
The water supply had already been restored. The A6 Derby Road between | :02:57. | :02:59.
Kegworth and Junction 24 of the M1 remains closed as work continues. We | :03:00. | :03:11.
have had a specially fabricated pipe. It has been connected up this | :03:12. | :03:16.
morning. It will need a couple of days for the concrete to set. Then | :03:17. | :03:20.
we will need to be concentrating on the road reconstruction. The road | :03:21. | :03:27.
will be fully open by Monday, the 6th of January. | :03:28. | :03:30.
Firefighters have gone on strike again a short time ago as part of | :03:31. | :03:34.
their long`running dispute with the government over pensions. Across the | :03:35. | :03:37.
region, members of the Fire Brigades Union started a six hour walk at | :03:38. | :03:40.
6.30pm. They're fighting plans to raise their retirement age from 55 | :03:41. | :03:44.
to 60 and to increase their pension contributions. The Government says | :03:45. | :03:46.
it's still a generous public pension scheme. | :03:47. | :03:49.
A deputy head teacher has won an award from a chief constable for his | :03:50. | :03:52.
work to teach pupils about the dangers of extremism and terrorism. | :03:53. | :03:56.
Neil Wilkinson from the Bemrose School in Derby received the award | :03:57. | :04:00.
from Derbyshire Police. James Roberson reports. My name is Holly. | :04:01. | :04:09.
They have already had classes to teach pupils about the dangers of | :04:10. | :04:13.
alcohol, now this school has been tackling another tough topic, the | :04:14. | :04:18.
hazards of extremism and the possible road to terrorism. 70% of | :04:19. | :04:23.
the school's pupils come from ethnic minorities. The deputy head has won | :04:24. | :04:27.
an award for his work with the police training students about | :04:28. | :04:32.
radicalisation. The message is for all students. It is about society | :04:33. | :04:36.
being safe and the community we live in being safe. Also, everybody | :04:37. | :04:39.
understanding what to do in the event should there be God forbid any | :04:40. | :04:45.
accident or event like that, how people should respond and what is | :04:46. | :04:48.
the best way for all of our communities to work together for | :04:49. | :04:52.
safety? We are teaching them about the dangers of radicalisation. We | :04:53. | :04:57.
worked very closely with the school. We are not scaremongering. We are | :04:58. | :05:01.
giving the right and that of information at the right time. The | :05:02. | :05:05.
school will run further courses for years seven and eight next year. | :05:06. | :05:10.
An enormous sinkhole has appeared in the Derbyshire Peak District and | :05:11. | :05:13.
locals say it's still growing. The hole is thought to be around 160ft | :05:14. | :05:17.
wide. A walker first spotted it on Christmas Day just outside the | :05:18. | :05:20.
village of Foolow. It's thought to be above an old lead mine. One local | :05:21. | :05:24.
resident says he reckons it's already grown by 10% since it first | :05:25. | :05:27.
opened and it's still getting bigger. | :05:28. | :05:30.
Lead thieves have targeted a Grade`I listed building in Leicestershire. | :05:31. | :05:32.
Sections of 17th`century lead`work were stolen from the Sir John Moore | :05:33. | :05:36.
Foundation in Appleby Magna during the early hours of 27th December. | :05:37. | :05:39.
More than 16 ornate brackets and 20 meters of lead were taken and staff | :05:40. | :05:43.
say it feels like part of their heritage has been stolen. It is | :05:44. | :05:55.
something we cannot get back. It is heartbreaking to lose it. Hopefully, | :05:56. | :05:59.
we will get it back. If we do not, we will replace it. We might stick | :06:00. | :06:04.
new initials on it to mark another period of history. We will go | :06:05. | :06:09.
forward to next year and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the rescue. | :06:10. | :06:12.
Now onto the weather with Charlie. There are a few showers around | :06:13. | :06:27.
tonight. First of all, this is what it looks like at the moment. A | :06:28. | :06:32.
couple of showers starting to drift over these midlands. Approaching | :06:33. | :06:34.
midnight, the showers will move in. They are light and Rosalie. Although | :06:35. | :06:39.
there is all of the dry weather, the umbrella should be in your pocket or | :06:40. | :06:46.
in your bag. The last thing you want is for one of the showers to find | :06:47. | :06:51.
you. New Year's Day, the rain is certainly going to find you. That is | :06:52. | :06:55.
heading our way once we head into the middle part of the morning. A | :06:56. | :07:01.
very poor day to start 2014 weather`wise. A lot of heavy rain at | :07:02. | :07:04.
times. The wind will be very strong as well. The only thing to smile at | :07:05. | :07:12.
the temperatures. Thursday, it is not a bad day. But bad again for the | :07:13. | :07:15.
weekend. Thank you very 0 | :07:16. | :07:15.
weekend. Thank you very much for watching BBC | :07:16. | :07:18.
East Midlands Today in 2013. From all of us, have a great New Year's | :07:19. | :07:22.
Eve and we'll see you again in 2014. Good night. | :07:23. | :07:39.
Good evening. It looks like mother nature may provide her own | :07:40. | :07:45.
pyrotechnics in the run-up to bid night tonight. We have some heavy | :07:46. | :07:50.
showers in western parts, starting to ease a bit across Scotland and | :07:51. | :07:55.
Northern Ireland. But the showers further south are heavier, with some | :07:56. | :07:59.
flashes of lightning as they move eastwards. They do get a bit more | :08:00. | :08:03.
hit and miss as we head towards midnight, but a greater chance of | :08:04. | :08:08.
getting wet in the south as we move into 2014. Cardiff and London could | :08:09. | :08:13.
see heavy downpours. Further north, you could be greeting the New Year | :08:14. | :08:21.
on a dry note. A touch of frost in northern and eastern areas going | :08:22. | :08:24.
into New Year's Day. A few | :08:25. | :08:25. |
