You're watching East Midlands Today. so it's goodbye from me. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight: Are NHS referrals weakening Glenfield's chances of keeping | :00:07. | :00:09.
Forward is simple and straightforward, anyone can | :00:10. | :00:27.
understand that if a patient lives near a centre, they go to that | :00:28. | :00:30.
centre for their care. Also tonight: Two men and a woman go | :00:31. | :00:35.
on trial, accused of illegal fox hunting. | :00:36. | :00:39.
Plus, mixed reactions to plans for a new multi-million pound ice rink in | :00:40. | :00:44.
Derby. Not really, not for that price, no. Derby does waste a lot of | :00:45. | :00:50.
money. And, we will have a unique limbs into a never before seen part | :00:51. | :00:55.
of one of Derbyshire's most famous poems. Dash-macro eight unique | :00:56. | :00:58.
glimpse. Good evening, welcome | :00:59. | :01:03.
to Tuesday's programme with Dominic Heale and me, | :01:04. | :01:05.
Anne Davies. First tonight, the latest twist | :01:06. | :01:07.
in the battle to keep children's heart surgery | :01:08. | :01:14.
at Leicester's Glenfield Hospital. It's under threat because, | :01:15. | :01:15.
according to NHS England, it doesn't Well, surgeons have told us | :01:16. | :01:18.
the Glenfield unit could be saved if more patients from this region | :01:19. | :01:22.
were referred to them, instead of being sent | :01:23. | :01:25.
for treatment at other centres like Great Ormond Street | :01:26. | :01:28.
Hospital in London. Up to 150 patients a year | :01:29. | :01:31.
are referred elsewhere, Meanwhile, figures obtained | :01:32. | :01:34.
by the BBC show many other centres Clare Clark from Lincolnshire | :01:35. | :01:40.
had a heart operation herself as a baby and went to | :01:41. | :01:52.
the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. Last summer, Claire | :01:53. | :01:56.
chose to send Eloise May Peterborough City, wanted | :01:57. | :01:59.
to refer Eloise May If she had had to go | :02:00. | :02:07.
to Great Ormond Street, it is really far and I would not | :02:08. | :02:12.
have been comfortable with that. NHS England is proposing to stop | :02:13. | :02:20.
children's heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital as part | :02:21. | :02:22.
of a review to raise Last year, Glenfield's three | :02:23. | :02:25.
surgeons averaged 109 operations, The hospital says around 150 | :02:26. | :02:29.
patients a year are being sent out of the region | :02:30. | :02:36.
for surgery elsewhere. Glenfield says it could meet | :02:37. | :02:42.
the new target if referral patterns were changed and more patients | :02:43. | :02:45.
from the East Midlands were sent here, instead | :02:46. | :02:47.
of to other centres, including Great Ormond | :02:48. | :02:51.
Street Hospital in London. Being where we are in | :02:52. | :02:55.
the country, there is a drag to London that perhaps other | :02:56. | :02:58.
networks don't have. But the proposal we have put | :02:59. | :03:00.
forward is very simple, I think anyone can understand that | :03:01. | :03:03.
if a patient lives near a centre, they go to that centre | :03:04. | :03:08.
for their care. Figures obtained by a Freedom | :03:09. | :03:10.
of Information request from the BBC showed centres that | :03:11. | :03:12.
are currently likely to take Glenfield patients | :03:13. | :03:14.
showed their waiting list were far Last November, Great Ormond Street | :03:15. | :03:17.
Hospital neared 160. Most other centres had | :03:18. | :03:21.
around the 70 mark. This is a proposal we've put | :03:22. | :03:23.
to NHS England, rather than closing our centre | :03:24. | :03:34.
because they think we are not operating enough, they simply need | :03:35. | :03:36.
to encourage referers to refer patients to our service | :03:37. | :03:39.
so that we can continue to thrive. Great Ormond Street says it accepts | :03:40. | :03:41.
referrals from across England. Northampton General sends up to | :03:42. | :03:45.
25 patients a year there, and Peterborough City Hospital says | :03:46. | :03:49.
most of its patients get referred there, | :03:50. | :03:52.
although there are links Glenfield says both hospitals | :03:53. | :03:54.
are in its catchment area. They have saved her life | :03:55. | :04:00.
and I owe them everything. All the nurses, the doctors, the | :04:01. | :04:02.
surgeons, all of them are amazing. NHS England declined our | :04:03. | :04:10.
request for an interview. It says it won't dictate referral | :04:11. | :04:14.
patterns that would take choice away The public consultation | :04:15. | :04:17.
ends in June. Well, Mike joins me now | :04:18. | :04:24.
for more on this story. Mike, it does seem like a numbers | :04:25. | :04:27.
game and what some people might Yes, it could look like that | :04:28. | :04:30.
because the numbers are just so important in this review started | :04:31. | :04:35.
by NHS England. They say that quality | :04:36. | :04:38.
is linked to quantity. To drive up standards, | :04:39. | :04:42.
they say they want the surgeons The doctor in our report described | :04:43. | :04:57.
the standard as an activity level, so there is debate around what these | :04:58. | :05:00.
figures mean. The has-been critical reaction | :05:01. | :05:02.
tonight as well. That's right, from the Leicester | :05:03. | :05:06.
West MP Liz Kendall. She says Jeremy Hunt has already | :05:07. | :05:08.
refused to look at the referral patterns that Glenfield says | :05:09. | :05:11.
are so important. Well, if parents are not given it | :05:12. | :05:22.
information about Glenfield and the excellent outcomes it has got, and | :05:23. | :05:25.
the brilliant follow-up service they provide, how on earth can they | :05:26. | :05:29.
choose what is best for their children? I raised this issue | :05:30. | :05:33.
directly with the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, and with NHS England. | :05:34. | :05:37.
She once Jeremy Hunt to look at this again. The Department of Health, we | :05:38. | :05:42.
have asked them for a response and they have yet to come back to us. On | :05:43. | :05:47.
Thursday, NHS England are in Leicester for a public meeting and | :05:48. | :05:49.
campaigners will get a chance to hear what they have got to say. You | :05:50. | :05:55.
have more on this subject at 10:30pm. | :05:56. | :05:58.
Three members of the Grove and Rufford hunt have gone on trial | :05:59. | :06:03.
The prosecution has been brought based on photos and video taken | :06:04. | :06:09.
The court heard how a fox was seen being chased by a pack of hounds | :06:10. | :06:14.
and there were no attempts to call them off. | :06:15. | :06:16.
On the morning of Saturday 30th of January last year, the Grove and | :06:17. | :06:24.
Rufford hunt met at this pub in the Nottingham show village. B Hunt | :06:25. | :06:29.
claims it was trail hunting by laying a cent across nearby fields, | :06:30. | :06:35.
which is legal. But one huntsman, a trail are and another are accused of | :06:36. | :06:39.
allowing a fox to be killed by dogs, which is bound by the hunting act. | :06:40. | :06:44.
Philip Palmer was out bird-watching with his partner, and they asked to | :06:45. | :06:48.
take photos of the Hunt. He said he saw a fox run into a field, and the | :06:49. | :06:52.
huntsman being told by another man the direction it went. One hour | :06:53. | :06:56.
later, Mr Palmer described seeing a fox running into another field, | :06:57. | :07:01.
chased by a pack of ?45, in view of members of the hunt. Philip Palmer | :07:02. | :07:06.
told the court it was a mass of dogs and there was nothing left of the | :07:07. | :07:13.
fox. Two were seen in the field, but Mr Palmer said he'd never heard a | :07:14. | :07:17.
hunting horn or shouts to call the dogs. He said he did feel in a | :07:18. | :07:21.
dangerous position because people were asking why I was taking | :07:22. | :07:24.
photographs. The prosecution claims no one saw a trail being led by | :07:25. | :07:28.
Peter White, and if one had been laid wobbly, the dogs would not have | :07:29. | :07:32.
been seen running across roads with traffic on. The court was played a | :07:33. | :07:41.
video of the kill, showing a mass of dogs gather in one place in a field. | :07:42. | :07:48.
The lady who filmed it said "Nothing I saw was done to stop the dog | :07:49. | :07:51.
schooling that fox". The trial continues. | :07:52. | :07:54.
Still to come: Calke Abbey - the National Trust's "un-stately" | :07:55. | :07:59.
home in Derbyshire awakes from its Winter slumber. | :08:00. | :08:02.
And, grace combined with precision - meet the synchronised skating team | :08:03. | :08:05.
from Nottingham who are heading for Canada to compete in the world | :08:06. | :08:08.
A ?2,000 reward is being offered for information which will help find | :08:09. | :08:21.
a man from Derby wanted on urgent recall to prison. | :08:22. | :08:24.
Craig Shaw from Mackworth is wanted for possession of drugs | :08:25. | :08:26.
with intent to supply, and a burglary in Chilwell | :08:27. | :08:29.
The 26-year-old is believed to have links to Derby and the Basford area. | :08:30. | :08:34.
The charity, Crimestoppers, is offering the reward. | :08:35. | :08:41.
Almost 100 defibrillators have been installed outside shops | :08:42. | :08:42.
in the East Midlands, paid for by the 5p | :08:43. | :08:45.
The scheme's being run by the Central England Co-operative | :08:46. | :08:51.
at its stores around the region, including this one at | :08:52. | :08:53.
It's in response to a customer survey on how best to use the cash. | :08:54. | :09:00.
And there are plans to roll out the life-saving equipment | :09:01. | :09:03.
Next, it's a bold plan, and it comes with a ?30 million price tag. | :09:04. | :09:11.
But it could transform a derelict area of Derby beyond recognition. | :09:12. | :09:14.
The City Council's announced plans to redevelop the Becketwell area, | :09:15. | :09:17.
and the main attraction would be a new indoor ice rink. | :09:18. | :09:23.
Victoria Hicks joins us from the site. | :09:24. | :09:26.
Victoria, what do we know about the plans? | :09:27. | :09:32.
It's seen by many as one of the biggest eyesores in Derby, | :09:33. | :09:36.
the Duckworth Square shopping centre. | :09:37. | :09:47.
That was demolished in 2003, and the land has been | :09:48. | :09:50.
Over the years, there have been all sorts of ideas for this site, | :09:51. | :09:54.
including an Olympic-sized aquatic centre and a supermarket amongst | :09:55. | :09:56.
others, but they've all failed, in part because the land's | :09:57. | :09:58.
Today the council's announced how it wants | :09:59. | :10:01.
to transform this area - with an ice rink residential | :10:02. | :10:04.
It is a ?30 million scheme of public and private investment, and it will | :10:05. | :10:16.
include an ice rink and residential and retail units, but will this | :10:17. | :10:19.
project succeed where others have failed? | :10:20. | :10:20.
Here's the Deputy Leader at Derby City Council. | :10:21. | :10:25.
There is a risk, which is why the public sector has not been able to | :10:26. | :10:31.
bring forward any scheme for the redevelopment of this area over the | :10:32. | :10:35.
last ten or 20 years, but we have got strong confidence in the | :10:36. | :10:37.
business plan and an operator coming forward to would be able to | :10:38. | :10:42.
revitalise and breathe new life into this part of obesity centre. | :10:43. | :10:51.
The council has paid consultants to consider the vitality of this | :10:52. | :10:54.
scheme. It says the demographics are right for an ice rink here, and it | :10:55. | :10:58.
would create 250 jobs and bring life back to this derelict area. They | :10:59. | :11:04.
have been working on this scheme for 2.5 years, and by the end of this | :11:05. | :11:08.
month, they will have properly bought the former Debenhams | :11:09. | :11:11.
building, which forms a key part of this site. But, do people really | :11:12. | :11:13.
want an ice rink here? I did come here in the winter | :11:14. | :11:16.
with my daughter and they put a temporary ice rink | :11:17. | :11:19.
in the Market Square over there, and we really enjoyed | :11:20. | :11:22.
it, so that was good. It is fun for the youngsters, | :11:23. | :11:24.
they have got to get people Now, these plans will go | :11:25. | :11:33.
to Cabinet this month. The Conservative opposition | :11:34. | :11:47.
at Derby City Council says whilst they're not against the development, | :11:48. | :11:53.
they need more information before But the plan is to have an | :11:54. | :11:55.
international ice rink here by 2020, A new Leicestershire | :11:56. | :11:59.
hospital has finally welcomed its first patients, | :12:00. | :12:02.
almost 30 years after Construction work on the St | :12:03. | :12:04.
Luke's Treatment Centre in Market Harborough was beset | :12:05. | :12:08.
by delays and funding problems. But this morning it put all that | :12:09. | :12:11.
in the past as it opened its doors. It's being claimed up to 600 jobs | :12:12. | :12:14.
will be created in Leicester by two Artist impressions of the proposals | :12:15. | :12:23.
for the Golden Mile Gateway off Belgrave Road have now been | :12:24. | :12:28.
released by developers. They also want to build | :12:29. | :12:31.
on the remaining part of the former Plans for both schemes | :12:32. | :12:34.
are on display to the public This is really, truly, | :12:35. | :12:38.
a mixed use scheme, so we are looking to compliment | :12:39. | :12:44.
the existing neighbourhood. We'll have retail, | :12:45. | :12:46.
leisure, we'll have some apartments up on the first | :12:47. | :12:49.
and second floors, and we will also More importantly, I think | :12:50. | :12:52.
for this scheme, is we are looking to bringing forward | :12:53. | :12:57.
a fantastic new public open space to the frontage of the site | :12:58. | :13:00.
as the gateway to the Golden Mile. Tomorrow is Budget day, | :13:01. | :13:06.
in case you hadn't heard. There was a time when a Chancellor | :13:07. | :13:09.
would have to resign if anything These days, though, we're given | :13:10. | :13:12.
plenty of details in the days Today, for instance, | :13:13. | :13:17.
we learn there's going to be money Controversially, the ?320 million | :13:18. | :13:23.
is to be spent on either new free schools or the return | :13:24. | :13:28.
of grammar schools. With us now is our | :13:29. | :13:32.
Political Editor, Tony Roe. How is this likely to affect | :13:33. | :13:34.
secondary education here We know for a fact that there is a | :13:35. | :13:49.
shortage of school places. Schools are oversubscribed in the East | :13:50. | :13:53.
Midlands. 39 of the 296 secondary schools have too many pupils, so we | :13:54. | :13:56.
do need the places. This will not make a great deal of difference to | :13:57. | :14:02.
that, but it is argued by the Conservative MP for Newark that | :14:03. | :14:05.
grammar schools are a good thing for the future. He says he has 400 | :14:06. | :14:09.
pupils in his constituency who travel up to an arrant 15 minutes | :14:10. | :14:14.
every day to go to grammar schools which exist in neighbouring | :14:15. | :14:18.
Lincolnshire. He says this should not be just confined to those who | :14:19. | :14:22.
can afford to do that, so he thinks Newark is a good place to put a new | :14:23. | :14:26.
grammar school. He also thinks they should go in poorer areas, and he | :14:27. | :14:32.
cited Nottingham. The Notts MP says it is an expensive irrelevance to | :14:33. | :14:36.
talk about new grammar schools, especially for his constituents. He | :14:37. | :14:39.
says they should stop budget cuts to school instead. Nicky Morgan, the | :14:40. | :14:45.
former Education Secretary, she is not really siding with the | :14:46. | :14:50.
government's policy on this, she is against grammar schools and should | :14:51. | :14:54.
instead concentrate on making every school excellent. And Anna Soubry, | :14:55. | :14:59.
she is also against grammar schools, and she says there was no desire for | :15:00. | :15:04.
that in her constituency. I popped out to see what people think. | :15:05. | :15:06.
I think grammar schools are the worst thing that | :15:07. | :15:09.
There is quite clearly a need for grammar schools | :15:10. | :15:14.
Kids don't need a bog-standard | :15:15. | :15:17.
The school system we have got just needs modernising | :15:18. | :15:24.
I think anything that will improve education, great. | :15:25. | :15:31.
If you've got the knowledge, then why not? | :15:32. | :15:34.
Why not take it back to the old method? | :15:35. | :15:39.
How would a return to the grammar school system make provision | :15:40. | :15:42.
for students with learning disabilities such as | :15:43. | :15:44.
My view is that the grammar schools are the best thing that happened | :15:45. | :15:52.
to this country over the last 50 years, and I very much | :15:53. | :15:55.
It is a way that poor kids can make good in this world. | :15:56. | :16:00.
Let's sort it out properly once and for all, stop wasting money | :16:01. | :16:03.
Briefly, what else will be in the red box? | :16:04. | :16:18.
We expect money for social care, help for business rates, and | :16:19. | :16:24.
finally, something on what is called the Midlands engine, our version of | :16:25. | :16:29.
the Northern powerhouse. Thank you. Now, the sport news. | :16:30. | :16:36.
I am in Derby where there is championship football tonight, and | :16:37. | :16:41.
also at the City Ground in Nottingham. First, the Premier | :16:42. | :16:42.
League. We understand that Craig | :16:43. | :16:49.
Shakespeare has been offer the job of manager of Leicester City | :16:50. | :16:51.
until the end of the season. It follows two wins in the two | :16:52. | :16:54.
games he's been in charge since Claudio Ranieri's sacking - | :16:55. | :16:57.
the first-team coach has He's currently on a | :16:58. | :16:59.
training camp in Dubai. Formal talks are set | :17:00. | :17:02.
to continue at the end The clubs owners are | :17:03. | :17:04.
believed to have flown Another Craig joins me now, and we | :17:05. | :17:28.
will get your view on Derby County's season. A winless debris was | :17:29. | :17:35.
corrected by a victory in March. First, a view from inside the | :17:36. | :17:37.
changing room. We just don't want to accept | :17:38. | :17:40.
we are tenth or 11th We have to try and focus, | :17:41. | :17:43.
and hopefully someone slips up What is your view? It is a season | :17:44. | :17:55.
that started with many fans expecting Derby to be in the | :17:56. | :17:58.
play-offs. Yes, the start of the season was well marked, there was a | :17:59. | :18:04.
missed opportunity, and obviously Steve came in. A great one, eight | :18:05. | :18:10.
wins in ten, and then we expect to kick on, but we should have done | :18:11. | :18:14.
more strengthening in January to give that dressing room the added | :18:15. | :18:19.
quality to kick us on. It feels a familiar story. It seems to go wrong | :18:20. | :18:23.
at this time of the year. Yes, this has been going on for the last few | :18:24. | :18:27.
years, with a still don't have the magic formula. But we are still in | :18:28. | :18:31.
it to wind it and it will be a massive task to get in the top six, | :18:32. | :18:34.
we are ten points offered. Can't afford lose any more games. We have | :18:35. | :18:39.
two beat Preston tonight and Brighton on Friday and then the fans | :18:40. | :18:42.
will get behind them once again. Off you go to your commentary position. | :18:43. | :18:50.
Across now to the city Ground that Nottingham Forest are in action. | :18:51. | :18:56.
Angela is there. Another chance for Nottingham Forest to make sure they | :18:57. | :18:59.
are not being dragged down to that relegation fight. | :19:00. | :19:05.
Yes, plenty for the Forest fans to be happy about here, where they are | :19:06. | :19:11.
on a fine run of form. Four wins out of five here, including a fantastic | :19:12. | :19:14.
result against promotion favourites Brighton at the weekend. There is an | :19:15. | :19:19.
interim manager in charge at the end of the season. He says he is happy | :19:20. | :19:22.
with things so far. All we have said straightaway, | :19:23. | :19:28.
from when we first took this on is that we would try | :19:29. | :19:31.
to create a foundation. We would try to create | :19:32. | :19:33.
a foundation in the training ground with the players | :19:34. | :19:35.
and the staff really tight and unite to make sure we are working well, | :19:36. | :19:38.
but we are trying to build on this football club to go forward | :19:39. | :19:42.
and that is massively So, can Forest make it two | :19:43. | :19:44.
home wins in a week? It will certainly help ease any | :19:45. | :19:48.
relegation fears if they can. A fantastic result on Saturday. If | :19:49. | :19:58.
we can do the same tonight, it will pull us away a bit more from those | :19:59. | :20:02.
teams close to us. Their form is fantastic. Yes, we have got to keep | :20:03. | :20:08.
winning our home matches. We are not good away from home, so every point | :20:09. | :20:12.
at home will do the job for us. Another three wins and we could be | :20:13. | :20:17.
OK. Was the performance on Saturday the best you have seen all season? | :20:18. | :20:21.
Yes, the best of the season, everybody played well. It will stand | :20:22. | :20:25.
us in good stead for tonight. If they do winter night, there will be | :20:26. | :20:30.
in touching distance of the top half of the table. After the season they | :20:31. | :20:33.
have had, that would be enough for the fans. | :20:34. | :20:40.
The results tonight will be in our 10:30pm bulletin. | :20:41. | :20:43.
Away from football, and tonight a group of very excited young sports | :20:44. | :20:46.
women are heading to Canada for a World Championships. | :20:47. | :20:48.
They've just won their fourth successive British title. | :20:49. | :20:50.
And the sport is fairly new on the block - | :20:51. | :20:58.
Christian Hewgill's been to find out more. | :20:59. | :21:03.
And next to skate, from Great Britain, team Icicle! | :21:04. | :21:08.
16 girls, all skating exactly in unison. | :21:09. | :21:14.
Precision, technique, and glamour all count. | :21:15. | :21:22.
Meet the Icicles, who are British champions in every category | :21:23. | :21:27.
And that only comes with true dedication. | :21:28. | :21:36.
Just this week we have had about ten hours on the | :21:37. | :21:38.
ice, which is quite a lot, especially with school. | :21:39. | :21:43.
It is so worth it will stop we have something to show where we have got. | :21:44. | :21:53.
There are not any words to describe how it feels to represent Great | :21:54. | :21:58.
Britain in an international competition, and in Canada for the | :21:59. | :22:00.
World Championship. When the judges judge the programme, | :22:01. | :22:11.
they look for something that is interesting and good to watch. Do | :22:12. | :22:14.
they enjoy the music is much too they enjoyed the choreography? How | :22:15. | :22:21.
fast is the team across the ice? Unsurprisingly, the club's | :22:22. | :22:24.
popularity is soaring with nearly 100 members. None of it would be | :22:25. | :22:28.
possible without the team's biggest fans, mum and dad. Super proud, you | :22:29. | :22:34.
can't believe how proud we are of what she has achieved. She only | :22:35. | :22:40.
started at 11. Some of these girls have been skating together for as | :22:41. | :22:44.
long as ten years, and while they are already national champions, I | :22:45. | :22:47.
don't think they will stop there. Do you think you can wind even more? | :22:48. | :22:51.
Yes! That seems pretty definite to me. | :22:52. | :22:59.
All the best to them for the World Championships this weekend. Finally | :23:00. | :23:00.
from me tonight. The funeral's been held | :23:01. | :23:02.
today for one of golf's greatest ever caddies, | :23:03. | :23:04.
Dave Musgrove from Nottinghamshire, in 1979 Muzzy, as he was | :23:05. | :23:10.
known, was on the bag. He'd been a member of | :23:11. | :23:15.
the Coxmoor Golf Club in Nottinghamshire for 50 years, | :23:16. | :23:18.
but playing was the hobby, And he looked after Britain's Sandy | :23:19. | :23:20.
Lyle who won the Open Lyle gave a reading today | :23:21. | :23:25.
at Mansfield crematorium. Lots of lovely tribute in today, and | :23:26. | :23:38.
a final reminder that if you want commentary on your local football | :23:39. | :23:42.
team, BBC local radio is the place to be. | :23:43. | :23:44.
Derbyshire's "least stately" stately home is giving up | :23:45. | :23:47.
Until now the family apartments at the National Trust's Calke Abbey | :23:48. | :23:52.
had remained firmly out of public view. | :23:53. | :23:54.
Now, though, we can all see where, and how, the previous owners lived. | :23:55. | :23:57.
Navtej Johal has been to take a look. | :23:58. | :24:04.
The sun is shining on Calke Abbey as it reopened its doors after a winter | :24:05. | :24:11.
break. This time, it is open more doors than ever before. This is the | :24:12. | :24:17.
entrance hall here at Calke Abbey, and normally visitors would only be | :24:18. | :24:20.
allowed access to the rest of the house through this door. But, as of | :24:21. | :24:25.
a few days ago, The National Trust allowed access to the family | :24:26. | :24:29.
apartment through this door. It's the first time this has been opened | :24:30. | :24:31.
since The National Trust acquired the property. Previous owners lived | :24:32. | :24:39.
in these rooms until recently. The dining room, drawing room and | :24:40. | :24:43.
kitchen. It really gives a poignant message about how, in the 1920s and | :24:44. | :24:50.
30s, Calke Abbey was in decline, the family had to close up rooms, and | :24:51. | :24:54.
they ended up in this one small suite of rooms. It really gives that | :24:55. | :24:58.
message of the decline of Calke Abbey, and how close it was to being | :24:59. | :25:03.
lost. Few people know this building better than 93-year-old Norman, who | :25:04. | :25:06.
has volunteered here for almost 30 years. He has been revelling in the | :25:07. | :25:12.
details of the rooms. You have this unique fireplace behind me, and that | :25:13. | :25:15.
shows some marvellous things, and also some of the chequered history | :25:16. | :25:20.
of the Harper family because there are anomalies in it. It is a superb | :25:21. | :25:28.
piece of carving and well worth coming to see in its own right. What | :25:29. | :25:33.
is it mean to you to be able to show these rooms of to the public | :25:34. | :25:36.
question mark it is lovely. We have had marvellous things to show over | :25:37. | :25:39.
the last 20 years, but now we have got this as the cherry on the top of | :25:40. | :25:45.
the cake. The trust is still to decide what to do with the rooms | :25:46. | :25:48.
long term, but in the meantime it will ask visitors about what they | :25:49. | :25:49.
would like to see. What an amazing place. | :25:50. | :26:03.
The sky was blue, and the sun shone this morning. | :26:04. | :26:06.
It definitely did, the best of the brightness was across the east | :26:07. | :26:10.
today. In the East Midlands we saw some lovely sunny spells first thing | :26:11. | :26:14.
this morning. A bit more in the way of cloud into the afternoon, but | :26:15. | :26:17.
some of that was high level, so still some brightness around. | :26:18. | :26:21.
Through tonight, we will see a band of rain coming in from the west, | :26:22. | :26:26.
which will be heavy at times. We can see that on the pressure charts. | :26:27. | :26:30.
This is the weather front moving across, and it will largely have | :26:31. | :26:33.
cleared away by the time we get into tomorrow morning. Some dry weather | :26:34. | :26:40.
as we move through this evening, we will see that cloud thickening up | :26:41. | :26:44.
before the arrival of that band of rain from the West, which will be | :26:45. | :26:49.
quite heavy at times. The warm front introducing some milder air. | :26:50. | :26:55.
Overnight lows of seven Celsius. By tomorrow morning, some outbreaks of | :26:56. | :26:58.
rain first thing, but clearing pretty quickly towards the south. | :26:59. | :27:03.
Further in the south of the region, the chance of seeing one or two | :27:04. | :27:06.
outbreaks of rain into the afternoon. The best of the | :27:07. | :27:09.
brightness in the North East tomorrow with tempered as reaching | :27:10. | :27:15.
11 Celsius. Thursday, not looking like a bad day at all. Largely dry, | :27:16. | :27:20.
with the best of the brightness in the North East might tempered his | :27:21. | :27:24.
reaching a maximum of 12 Celsius. He is the outlook: Turning slightly | :27:25. | :27:29.
milder to the next couple of days, with rain on the way tonight. | :27:30. | :27:35.
Double figures! Spring is here. Let's hope so. We will have all the | :27:36. | :27:39.
results of the football, and the weather, and all the news at | :27:40. | :27:41.
10:30pm. Goodbye. | :27:42. | :27:46. |
