For the second time in less than 12 months, the country

The snap election on June the 8th will throw the spotlight

onto the East Midlands once again, as a key political battleground.

Well, this is how the political map looks at the moment.

Two years ago, the Conservatives took 18 seats, mainly

in the more rural areas, while Labour's power lay

in the cities and former mining districts, with 14 MPs.

The Lib Dems failed to make an impression.

On the streets of Nottingham and Leicester today,

people gave their reaction to the unexpected election in just

The Prime Minister's announcement seems to have caught

After she repeatedly said it was not an option she's changed her mind

Our political editor Tony Roe has been gauging reaction from our MPs

to what is another tumultuous day in the world of politics.

At the end of last week, I was out filming with the Tory party

The Derbyshire Dales MP was pretty relaxed,

with time to stuff letterboxes with local election leaflets.

His life might just become a little busier over the next six weeks.

I was on the phone to another MP who was on College Green preparing

for a media photo call on the London Marathon

when news came through about the Prime Ministers announcement.

The camera crews were suddenly diverted and sent to Downing Street,

leaving MPs stranded in their running gear.

Now MPs in the East Midlands who'll be running for Oarliament have

On social media Anna Soubry, the Broxtowe Conservative,

called the Prime Minister decision brave and principled.

And she said winning the general election would give

the PM a mandate she needs for the Brexit negotiations.

On the other hand, Lilian Greenwood called it a chance to, quote,

Bring it on, says the Labour MP for Nottingham South.

And Jon Ashworth, the Shadow Health Secretary and Leicester South MP,

sent us a text which indicates that Labour want to campaign

There's uncertainty over which of our MPs will decide

There's much interest in Rushcliffe's Ken Clarke,

He said he'd stand down in 2020, but the election has come early

and the Rushcliffe seat survives being carved up in proposed boundary

Finally, the MP with the smallest majority in the country

She won for the Conservatives in 2015 by 41 votes.

She too was surprised by today's announcement.

She told me she's aiming to at least double her majority.

As Tony's just mentioned, Amanda Solloway took Derby North

with a handful of votes in 2015 and will be high

Navtej Johal reports from the most marginal seat in the region.

And therefore declare the Amanda Solloway is appointed as a member of

Parliament for Derby not. The charcuterie that showed Amanda

Solloway unseated Labour's Chris Williamson to become the MP for

Derby not. The result was so tight that it took a treat returns to

that a lot of consideration. I'm not sure. You could regain API labour.

Something like that. Same as I always do. Conservative. We will

always vote Labour. It's a tradition. I will have to do my

sex offences including Ilija High from Chaddesden pleaded

Our social affairs correspondent, Jeremy Ball, has been to meet her.

I love what I do. I love to wake up in the morning. Rosie's enthusiasm

comes from recovering from the depths of despair. She was 14 and

she started to use cannabis. That glitter harder class a drugs. As she

puts it, she went off the rails. I got caught and I was told I would go

to prison for two years. That was my massive wake-up call. I realised I

didn't want to do it any more. I drink my family for support.

Entering, I went to the drugs services and said can you help me?

I've been unstoppable since. Now she is helping addicts and support

workers. It's called Intuitive Thinking. It's about taking better

choices to reform your behaviour. I have learned things about the brain

that I did install. It's become clear why I have any -- and

addiction. What makes this new servers so different? People can

throw themselves and this and other services are all together under one

roof. The Place is one of the four centres. They work together with

charities, trainers and addiction counsellors. We save lives and when

you get people to save -- to make these changes, even small changes,

can make a huge difference. I am living my life to the full and I'm

getting a buzz out of getting up in the morning. It's amazing to be

helping people. It's fantastic. It's hard to believe that it's only three

years since Rose started her treatment. Now she is a shining

example and to future looks bright. The anticipation is building

in Leicester as the Foxes attempt to qualify for the semi-finals

of the biggest tournament in Europe, And it's not just football

fans who are relishing the club's success in

the competition so far. Businesses are too -

the City Council believes visits from European fans could be worth

around ?5 million to Amy Harris is live in Jubilee Square
