It's almost 6.30pm, you're watching East Midlands Today. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight, the tiny battery that could have killed two-year-old Kacie. | :00:00. | :00:13.
The toddler needed emergency surgery after swallowing this lithium | :00:14. | :00:21.
battery at her home in Derby. It was a 30-40% chance that if she had | :00:22. | :00:25.
surgery she wouldn't survive, and if she did, there was a 50% chance she | :00:26. | :00:29.
would be paralysed from the waist down. | :00:30. | :00:34.
Also, the horror of a dog-on-dog attack. One owner goes to | :00:35. | :00:41.
Parliament. What happens flashes through your mind. Basically ripped | :00:42. | :00:44.
to bits. And why Brexit makes this coalfield | :00:45. | :01:00.
constituency a risk for Labour. And this man with a violin and an | :01:01. | :01:02.
amazing story to tell. Good evening and welcome | :01:03. | :01:09.
to Tuesday's programme, with Dominic Heale, and me, | :01:10. | :01:11.
Geeta Pendse. First tonight, a Derby mother | :01:12. | :01:13.
is warning other parents to beware of the dangers of small batteries, | :01:14. | :01:16.
after her daughter was Kacie Barradell needed | :01:17. | :01:19.
surgery after she stopped breathing and began vomiting | :01:20. | :01:24.
blood in February. She's just returned home, | :01:25. | :01:27.
but now other parents are being urged to be more alert, | :01:28. | :01:30.
as Giles Taylor reports. Home at last and well | :01:31. | :01:37.
on the road to recovery. But it could all have been very | :01:38. | :01:44.
different for two-year-old Kacie, who started to feel ill | :01:45. | :01:46.
in February this year. The Saturday morning, I woke up, | :01:47. | :01:49.
went to check on Kacie. Doctors at the Queen's Medical | :01:50. | :01:51.
Centre in Nottingham carried out an X-ray and found this - | :01:52. | :02:00.
a lithium battery no more Cheryl was warned there was a one | :02:01. | :02:04.
in three chance that Kacie could die in surgery, | :02:05. | :02:10.
and in all, she spent six weeks in hospital | :02:11. | :02:12.
being fed her food through a tube. I've had to stay by her | :02:13. | :02:16.
side every single day. I've been getting three to four | :02:17. | :02:19.
hours' sleep a night, I've cried, I screamed, | :02:20. | :02:21.
but there was nothing I could do. Last year, surgeons at London's | :02:22. | :02:29.
Great Ormond Street Hospital said they'd experienced a big increase | :02:30. | :02:32.
in cases of children swallowing batteries, | :02:33. | :02:35.
seeing about one every month. Kacie still has to be careful | :02:36. | :02:39.
what she eats as the incident has caused serious damage | :02:40. | :02:42.
to her oesophagus. But Cheryl says she's just grateful | :02:43. | :02:45.
to have her alive and back home. It devastated me, it hurt, | :02:46. | :02:50.
it killed me inside, but having my little girl back | :02:51. | :02:55.
to normal, obviously not fully, but...all I can say is someone | :02:56. | :02:59.
was watching over her. The charity Child | :03:00. | :03:09.
Accident Prevention Trust says this is a growing problem, | :03:10. | :03:11.
and has started a campaign Its chief executive | :03:12. | :03:14.
is Katrina Phillips. These batteries aren't especially | :03:15. | :03:20.
new, so why are these incidents I think button batteries are such | :03:21. | :03:35.
useful things. They power novelty gift cards, nightlights, key fob is, | :03:36. | :03:41.
remote controls. There are in so many products now around the home | :03:42. | :03:45.
and parents and carers just don't realise how dangerous they can be. | :03:46. | :03:51.
-- they are in. Small children are so curious. They get into them and | :03:52. | :03:54.
when they swallow them it can have really serious effects. What is your | :03:55. | :04:02.
advice to parents? We advise parents to be aware of the kinds of products | :04:03. | :04:07.
that can contain button batteries, so that they don't leave them within | :04:08. | :04:11.
reach of small children. Toys that have gotten batteries in them, the | :04:12. | :04:16.
button battery should be in a Scrooge down compartment, but lots | :04:17. | :04:20.
of other products, it's really quite easy for small children to get into | :04:21. | :04:27.
them. -- in a compartment that is sealed. Put spare batteries | :04:28. | :04:31.
somewhere safe as well. It's really important to raise awareness because | :04:32. | :04:38.
if a small child swallows a button battery, particularly one of the | :04:39. | :04:42.
lithium batteries, the charge in the battery reacts with fluids inside | :04:43. | :04:49.
the body and it creates caustic soda, which is basically drain | :04:50. | :04:53.
cleaner, and you can imagine what that does in terms of corrosive | :04:54. | :05:03.
burns inside a small child's body. OK, clearly it's an issue of great | :05:04. | :05:08.
concern. Thank you for joining us this evening. Thank you. | :05:09. | :05:12.
A Parliamentary debate took place today, calling for tougher laws | :05:13. | :05:15.
surrounding attacks on dogs by other dogs. | :05:16. | :05:16.
And it was all because of a campaign by an East Midlands woman whose | :05:17. | :05:20.
own pet was attacked by another animal. | :05:21. | :05:21.
Yes, Jill Mayes from Loughborough collected over 2,000 | :05:22. | :05:23.
New figures show there have been at least 1,700 such attacks | :05:24. | :05:27.
At the moment, one dog attacking another isn't considered a criminal | :05:28. | :05:31.
offence unless it involves a guide or assistance dog. | :05:32. | :05:33.
Victoria Hicks is in Loughborough tonight and can tell us a bit more. | :05:34. | :05:46.
Good evening. This is 110 acres of ancient woodland to the north of | :05:47. | :05:56.
Loughborough. It was given to the people of the town and it is managed | :05:57. | :06:04.
by the council. It is popular with dog walkers. One woman's recent dog | :06:05. | :06:11.
walk ended far from well. It was a horrid experience. Here is my | :06:12. | :06:12.
report. Stilton is recovering at home. | :06:13. | :06:22.
Whilst on a walk, she turned around to see two big dogs running towards | :06:23. | :06:27.
them. As soon as they came towards me, running up, they were trying to | :06:28. | :06:33.
get the dogs out of my hands. I was screaming and the dogs were | :06:34. | :06:39.
squealing. I know what to do. Stilton was unlucky. He was in the | :06:40. | :06:46.
dog's mouth and he was well and truly crushed by the jaws. You can | :06:47. | :06:51.
see one puncture wound there and a lot of internal injuries. Bruising | :06:52. | :06:56.
and swelling and even some internal bleeding. He had to have fluid | :06:57. | :07:01.
drained from his lungs. This is the second time one of her dogs has been | :07:02. | :07:05.
attacked. Monty, her Jack Russell, was almost mauled to death eight | :07:06. | :07:11.
years ago. That Harry Warwick says he sees two such attacks a week. He | :07:12. | :07:16.
says owners have a big part to play in controlling their pets. At the | :07:17. | :07:20.
end of the day, there is with that element of risk and are going to be | :07:21. | :07:24.
unfortunate accident from time to time, which we are probably never | :07:25. | :07:28.
going to be able to avoid, but if the owners take an active role to | :07:29. | :07:32.
avoid that and hopefully we can reduce the number of dog-on-dog | :07:33. | :07:38.
attacks in future. Jill from Loughborough has long campaigned for | :07:39. | :07:41.
tougher laws on dog-on-dog attacks. She has collected over 2000 | :07:42. | :07:47.
signatures calling for a change in the law. We need that protection | :07:48. | :07:53.
that guide dogs and human beings have got. It isn't a criminal | :07:54. | :07:57.
offence for our dogs and it isn't for human beings and that needs to | :07:58. | :08:04.
change now. Today, Jill's campaign led to her local MP, Nicky Morgan, | :08:05. | :08:09.
leading a debate on the issue in Parliament. There have also been a | :08:10. | :08:13.
number of high-profile dog attacks on other dogs. The minister said | :08:14. | :08:20.
there was current scope in the attack to cover dog-on-dog attacks | :08:21. | :08:24.
but most people didn't realise this was the case. Campaigners say more | :08:25. | :08:25.
clarification is needed. Joining me now is a criminal | :08:26. | :08:34.
solicitor from Nottingham. We heard that there was scope under the | :08:35. | :08:39.
Dangerous Dogs Act to prosecute. What is your experience? It would be | :08:40. | :08:43.
very unusual to prosecute such an attack. The legislation was designed | :08:44. | :08:47.
for dogs attacking people and extremely rare for it to be used | :08:48. | :08:51.
other than that. For the prosecution to proceed with that, they would | :08:52. | :08:56.
need to show that job is dangerously out of control and be satisfied | :08:57. | :09:00.
there is a realistic prospect of conviction and that it's in the | :09:01. | :09:04.
public interest. -- that the dog is dangerously out of control. So quite | :09:05. | :09:11.
a few hurdles to get over. The current legislation is badly drafted | :09:12. | :09:14.
in the first place. There have been attempts to modify it in the past | :09:15. | :09:18.
and most of those haven't worked. We need to start again with a | :09:19. | :09:23.
completely new act. Thank you. This is certainly an issue that has got | :09:24. | :09:27.
people talking today and we will be charting any developments in this | :09:28. | :09:28.
story. A delivery suite at Leicester | :09:29. | :09:32.
General Hospital had to be closed for five hours overnight | :09:33. | :09:35.
because of a chemical spill. The Fire Service was called | :09:36. | :09:37.
after floor cleaner was spilt One member of staff was treated | :09:38. | :09:39.
for nausea and sore eyes and throat Fly-tippers in Leicester have been | :09:40. | :09:45.
targeted today as part of a campaign Wardens have been trying to track | :09:46. | :09:51.
down some of the people responsible for these piles of rubbish that have | :09:52. | :09:55.
been dumped across the city. In a statement, the council has told | :09:56. | :09:59.
us it provides a free bulk collection for domestic waste, | :10:00. | :10:03.
and there's no excuse. The parents of Madeleine McCann | :10:04. | :10:08.
say they're preparing for a "painful" couple of weeks, | :10:09. | :10:10.
ten years after the Leicestershire Madeleine was three | :10:11. | :10:13.
when she disappeared while on a family holiday | :10:14. | :10:16.
in Portugal in May 2007. In a statement today, | :10:17. | :10:20.
Kate and Gerry said they're immensely fortunate to have received | :10:21. | :10:23.
the love, solidarity and support Coming up later, Lucy will be | :10:24. | :10:26.
here with a distinctly Yes, for some of us a bit of a | :10:27. | :10:45.
chilly and wet end to the day, but how long will this cool spell of | :10:46. | :10:49.
weather last? I'll have a full forecast at the end of the show. | :10:50. | :10:53.
With so much attention focused on Brexit during this election, | :10:54. | :10:55.
there's always the risk that other issues could be sidelined. | :10:56. | :10:59.
But Labour's Angela Rayner has been campaigning in Nottinghamshire | :11:00. | :11:02.
today on a different subject - schools. | :11:03. | :11:05.
The Shadow Education Secretary visited a primary school and pledged | :11:06. | :11:08.
to bridge a ?3 billion gap in budgets predicted by | :11:09. | :11:12.
Are they for me? Thank you! They are lovely. Politicians are more used to | :11:13. | :11:32.
brickbats than bouquets but here they came bearing many gifts. One | :11:33. | :11:38.
idea about cyclist safety might even become Labour policy. Can I have | :11:39. | :11:42.
that copy? Then I can look at it and see if I can put it in our | :11:43. | :11:48.
manifesto. The warnings that current budgets for schools don't add up. | :11:49. | :11:52.
Rising costs will mean a shortfall of ?3 billion in three years' time | :11:53. | :11:56.
with rising pupils, but Labour says it will bridge the gap. You will see | :11:57. | :12:02.
in a few weeks when we roll out our manifesto is that we will do what | :12:03. | :12:06.
our say and that means old schools can have their funding instead of | :12:07. | :12:10.
diverging much-needed funds into grammar schools, which is what this | :12:11. | :12:14.
Government wants to do. Do you plan to find the extra money through tax | :12:15. | :12:19.
rises? I don't think we need to do that at the moment. There is enough | :12:20. | :12:22.
money in the system that the government is wasting and they | :12:23. | :12:25.
should be diverted that money in a big way. They shouldn't be diverted | :12:26. | :12:33.
in this money when our schools are in crisis. They say funding is at a | :12:34. | :12:43.
record level at the moment. Gas, but they understand pupil numbers are | :12:44. | :12:45.
increasing and they didn't plan for that. -- yes, but they understand. | :12:46. | :12:56.
They have not funded things like the apprenticeship levy. Governments say | :12:57. | :12:59.
they will be accessible to all and the grammar schools will increase | :13:00. | :13:04.
social mobility and parental choice. Have they got it right? Time and | :13:05. | :13:10.
time again that is not a scrap of evidence saying that grammar source | :13:11. | :13:16.
give these improvements. -- grammar schools. Make no mistake, the | :13:17. | :13:19.
ordinary working families of this country, for them it would be like | :13:20. | :13:23.
winning the lottery trying to get their child into those schools. | :13:24. | :13:27.
Brexit may dominate this election but it will be future generations | :13:28. | :13:31.
whose lives will be most affected by decisions made in the near future. | :13:32. | :13:34.
Now, the opinion polls so far have given the Conservatives | :13:35. | :13:37.
We decided to go to Labour's most vulnerable seat | :13:38. | :13:41.
in the East Midlands, to find out why a place once | :13:42. | :13:46.
dominated by King Coal was now among the Tories' top targets. | :13:47. | :13:49.
Here's our general election reporter John Hess. | :13:50. | :13:57.
Here is a clue as to where I am, over there one of the safest Tory | :13:58. | :14:13.
seats in the country. Over there, constituency represented by Labour. | :14:14. | :14:21.
In between, Derbyshire East. This time round the vote, be | :14:22. | :14:25.
guaranteed for Labour. This will be like Theresa May. Thereby be a few | :14:26. | :14:35.
disgruntled perform -- supporters but is a staunch Labour seat and it | :14:36. | :14:41.
has been for years. I don't think that'll change now. What the Tories | :14:42. | :14:47.
are doing is not acceptable in my opinion. The Tories were second and | :14:48. | :14:53.
Ukip took 16% of the vote in that constituency. The area's industrial | :14:54. | :15:02.
heritage has shaped his politics but last year added vulnerability came | :15:03. | :15:06.
to Labour's prospects after the Brexit vote. The last coal mine shut | :15:07. | :15:17.
in 1993. From the offices of the Derbyshire times, the newsroom has | :15:18. | :15:20.
reported on the changing nature of this corner of Derbyshire. The | :15:21. | :15:25.
commuter belt has been built up and some of that is for people commuting | :15:26. | :15:29.
to white-collar jobs in Sheffield and Chesterfield. You could argue | :15:30. | :15:32.
it's reflected in the whole country, where they are moving away from | :15:33. | :15:37.
heavy industry to service industry. There is now higher proportion of | :15:38. | :15:41.
professional occupations than in the rest of the region and nationally. | :15:42. | :15:45.
Attracted by the beauty of the Derbyshire countryside, the | :15:46. | :15:47.
proximity to the main urban and new jobs. It certainly brings a | :15:48. | :15:53.
brand-new skill set into the area. Obviously it's an area that has | :15:54. | :15:57.
grown significantly in terms of the number of businesses housed here by | :15:58. | :16:01.
about 20% in the last five years or so. And it's increased by a level | :16:02. | :16:09.
similar in jobs. So you see higher value of jobs coming in. The Liberal | :16:10. | :16:16.
Democrat vote crashed by 19% two years ago but the question is | :16:17. | :16:18.
whether their revival or Brexit could make all eight -- make or | :16:19. | :16:23.
break Labour's hold on East Derbyshire. | :16:24. | :16:24.
John's here with us now to talk about another development today. | :16:25. | :16:27.
John, this involves two of our region's leading Conservative MPs. | :16:28. | :16:29.
This is another example of the impact of Brexit on this election | :16:30. | :16:38.
campaign. Anna Soubrey and Nicky Morgan are both leading | :16:39. | :16:42.
pro-Europeans and were big supporters of the Open Britain's | :16:43. | :16:49.
lobby group. It is one of those umbrella organisations that has been | :16:50. | :16:54.
campaigning against Brexit. But what has angered them is that Open | :16:55. | :16:59.
Britain has decided to campaign against up to a dozen pro-Brexit | :17:00. | :17:03.
Tory MPs in an attempt to unseat them. The two MPs later tweeted that | :17:04. | :17:08.
it was untenable for them to play any further role with Open Britain, | :17:09. | :17:14.
but their tweets might not be enough to satisfy some in the Conservative | :17:15. | :17:18.
Party, because one influential Tory, Tim Montgomery, former editor of | :17:19. | :17:25.
their website, says both should be cooked -- expelled from the party. | :17:26. | :17:30.
Open Britain has said this evening that it was understandable but | :17:31. | :17:34.
during a political campaign that members of parties and their | :17:35. | :17:38.
differences become magnified. That's probably the first understatement of | :17:39. | :17:40.
this election campaign! Thank you. And the Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has | :17:41. | :17:43.
thanked the police after a man who called her constituency office | :17:44. | :17:46.
making death threats was given He's been sentenced to eight weeks | :17:47. | :17:48.
after saying the Conservative MP Ms Soubry says it sends | :17:49. | :17:52.
a strong message that courts won't tolerate malicious calls, | :17:53. | :17:58.
and that staff working An independent report looking | :17:59. | :18:00.
into the safety of care homes in Nottingham following the death | :18:01. | :18:06.
of Ivy Atkin in 2012 says significant progress has been | :18:07. | :18:10.
made in the way local 86-year-old Ivy was severely | :18:11. | :18:13.
underweight and later died following the "systematic neglectful | :18:14. | :18:18.
care" she received at The home's owner, Yousaf Khan, | :18:19. | :18:21.
was jailed last year after admitting The Safeguarding Adults Board says | :18:22. | :18:28.
protecting vulnerable adults The M1 has been closed in both | :18:29. | :18:44.
directions through Leicestershire after a crash earlier this | :18:45. | :18:47.
afternoon. It follows a collision between a lorry and a car just after | :18:48. | :18:52.
5pm, with one vehicle crossing the central reservation. There were no | :18:53. | :18:56.
serious injuries but both carriageways have been closed | :18:57. | :19:00.
between junctions 21 and 20 because of fuel spillage. The roads are | :19:01. | :19:01.
unlikely to reopen for some time. Next tonight, the moving tale | :19:02. | :19:04.
of the folk musician, his violin and his search | :19:05. | :19:07.
for the soldier who first owned it. When Sam Sweeney, of | :19:08. | :19:10.
the best-selling folk band Bellowhead, discovered the soldier | :19:11. | :19:12.
had died near Ypres in World War I, The show is coming to Derby in June, | :19:13. | :19:15.
the month 100 years ago Sam is playing his fiddle at the | :19:16. | :19:38.
graveside near Ypres of the soldier who first created it. It is a very | :19:39. | :19:44.
special instrument. Out of all of the violins I tried that day, this | :19:45. | :19:48.
was the one that spoke to me. I often think of violins as Harry | :19:49. | :19:54.
Potter's one shot. There is very often one for you. And I was playing | :19:55. | :19:58.
a very loud and brash fiddle in my band at the time. It was a big, | :19:59. | :20:12.
folk, loud instrument, and this has a very quiet, sombre tone. So you | :20:13. | :20:17.
set about discovering the background of the fiddle, didn't you? I did, | :20:18. | :20:23.
and Sam brought it home. It has a maker's name inside. The first thing | :20:24. | :20:30.
I went to was the 1911 census, and the very same signature was written | :20:31. | :20:33.
on the census. So I knew we had the right man. And the second thing was | :20:34. | :20:39.
the War Graves website. Just to see when he died. 90 years later, the | :20:40. | :20:47.
history inspired the new owner of this filing, Sam. We created this | :20:48. | :20:55.
show called Made In The Great War, which is what the sticker says in | :20:56. | :20:59.
the violin. It follows the story of Richard and the violin all the way | :21:00. | :21:09.
to his death and beyond. Through this funny bit of coincidence, all | :21:10. | :21:13.
this incredible stuff has happened. And it's a great honour to be the | :21:14. | :21:15.
owner of this amazing violin. The story behind one violin. So | :21:16. | :21:32.
amazing. Beautiful. It is. Let's go to a lady who is always in | :21:33. | :21:37.
tune. Natalie with the sport! Thank you. | :21:38. | :21:39.
First, Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare believes Leicester | :21:40. | :21:41.
can keep hold of their best and brightest players, | :21:42. | :21:43.
despite not being able to offer European football next season. | :21:44. | :21:46.
The Foxes' fairy-tale Champions League campaign | :21:47. | :21:47.
came to an end against Atletico Madrid last week. | :21:48. | :21:50.
But Shakespeare says even though their run in Europe is over, | :21:51. | :21:52.
his best players want to stay in the summer. | :21:53. | :21:54.
The priority right now, though, he says is staying | :21:55. | :21:56.
focussed on tomorrow night's clash at Arsenal. | :21:57. | :22:07.
Probably the bigger carrot is the Premier League and I've said all | :22:08. | :22:12.
along we aren't safe, and even when we are mathematically safe, if that | :22:13. | :22:16.
arises, we have to make sure we try to win every game, because the | :22:17. | :22:19.
competitive nature of football and of me, the players, that has to be | :22:20. | :22:24.
the motivation, and that won't stop till the end of the season. | :22:25. | :22:26.
Staying with football, and like Nottingham Forest last | :22:27. | :22:28.
week, Notts County have now cancelled their end-of-season | :22:29. | :22:30.
The club say it's because of the decision on Friday | :22:31. | :22:34.
by owner Alan Hardy to put Notts County Ladies | :22:35. | :22:38.
Cricket, and two Nottinghamshire players have been picked | :22:39. | :22:41.
to try to help England win some major one-day | :22:42. | :22:44.
Batsman Alex Hales and bowler Jake Ball are both included | :22:45. | :22:47.
in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, which | :22:48. | :22:50.
Snooker, and at The Crucible in Sheffield, another good day | :22:51. | :22:56.
for our Jester from Leicester, Mark Selby. | :22:57. | :22:59.
Marco Fu has it all to do against our world champion Selby | :23:00. | :23:02.
Defending his title, Selby is 6-2 up in his quarterfinal, | :23:03. | :23:10.
which resumes tomorrow, but he says he hasn't peaked yet. | :23:11. | :23:19.
As yet, I don't feel as though I've piqued to the top of my game. But in | :23:20. | :23:25.
the way I think that's a good thing. If I had peaked in the first or | :23:26. | :23:30.
second round, the only way you can go from there is down, so I feel my | :23:31. | :23:34.
game has been fantastic but also not poor, so I'll be happy with that | :23:35. | :23:36.
into the quarterfinal. Now onto swimming, and Olympic | :23:37. | :23:38.
champion Adam Peaty is in a 29-strong British team | :23:39. | :23:40.
for this year's World Championships The team was announced today, | :23:41. | :23:43.
and in an exclusive interview with us before the announcement, | :23:44. | :23:46.
he revealed the secret behind his So this is equilibrium, obviously | :23:47. | :24:02.
the Olympic rings, and I'm a firm believer to perform at my best you | :24:03. | :24:05.
need to have balance in all areas, so I need to have balance at home, | :24:06. | :24:10.
in training and everything needs to be balanced. I need to keep | :24:11. | :24:14.
everything in check to make sure I get that performance, so that's | :24:15. | :24:17.
something I think helped me with that Rio gold, and that's why I've | :24:18. | :24:21.
got a tad too with the Olympic rings. -- a tattoo with the Olympic | :24:22. | :24:29.
rings. What does it mean to you to make the championships and go to | :24:30. | :24:33.
Budapest? Obviously it means a lot to me to qualify but this is just | :24:34. | :24:39.
round one. I'm already thinking about what I need to do to set me | :24:40. | :24:44.
apart from the others. This is just qualifications I'm not getting too | :24:45. | :24:47.
emotionally involved. So I'm getting back training. How fast can you go | :24:48. | :24:57.
this summer? I think on the 100, maybe get around that world record | :24:58. | :25:03.
again. Maybe below it, above it. Who knows? But again, I'm always | :25:04. | :25:06.
striving to be better. But when you go to a world champion -- will | :25:07. | :25:12.
championships, it's all about getting medals for GB and that's | :25:13. | :25:19.
what matters. -- World Championships. And then showing them | :25:20. | :25:24.
off to the kids! I know what it takes. It would be great but at the | :25:25. | :25:29.
same time, I know I'm not even at my peak yet. So when I reach the peak | :25:30. | :25:34.
I'll let you know! Adam is leading the team but there are lots of other | :25:35. | :25:38.
local swimmers from our patch in the squad, so good luck to them all. Of | :25:39. | :25:47.
course. Good luck. The weather now. Hail, showers, possibly sleet. | :25:48. | :25:48.
What's going on?! Yes, some snow, some sunshine and a | :25:49. | :26:02.
notably cool feel. We have been dragging that in through last night | :26:03. | :26:07.
and today. We did start with some brightness first thing this morning | :26:08. | :26:10.
but then quickly we saw those showers get going. Those are the | :26:11. | :26:14.
ones that have contained the hail and sleet. You can see that quite | :26:15. | :26:18.
nicely in our weather watcher photos. Such a variety! This was | :26:19. | :26:24.
sent in from this morning. Some quite dramatic clouds in Nottingham | :26:25. | :26:28.
later in the day, though. And we even got this little snowman sent in | :26:29. | :26:33.
from Derbyshire! As we move through this evening, we have a few late | :26:34. | :26:36.
spells of sunshine with a few showers to look out for. Then we | :26:37. | :26:40.
will see some more in the way of cloud. Some clear spells at times | :26:41. | :26:45.
with just the chance of seeing a few wintry showers, but it will be | :26:46. | :26:49.
chilly with lows of 2-3 overnight. It could be cooler in the | :26:50. | :26:53.
countryside so we could see a touch of Frost in rural areas. Tomorrow is | :26:54. | :26:59.
looking quite similar to today. A bit more in the way of cloud with | :27:00. | :27:03.
sunny spells developing and scattered showers. Those showers do | :27:04. | :27:07.
have the potential to contain the odd rumble of thunder, hail and some | :27:08. | :27:12.
sleep as well. Again, temperatures struggling with highs of nine. -- | :27:13. | :27:20.
some sleet. We have this warm front sinking southwards and that will | :27:21. | :27:25.
introduce some warmer air, so we will see temperatures recovering | :27:26. | :27:28.
slightly as we go into the weekend, but also bringing some patchy light | :27:29. | :27:29.
rain. You can tell the cricket season has | :27:30. | :27:38.
started when you get hail and rain! You just don't know what to wear! | :27:39. | :27:43.
April! Always wear socks. Great advice! Join us for the late news if | :27:44. | :27:46.
you can. Goodbye. | :27:47. | :27:49. |
