investigating the practicalities, join me on BBC Two right now and

:00:00.:00:13.

Health officials say more ndeds to be done to control the ntmbers

:00:14.:00:20.

of fast food restaurants in the face of growing evidence of a link

:00:21.:00:23.

Figures from Public Health Dngland also show a connection

:00:24.:00:30.

between the number of outlets and higher levels of

:00:31.:00:34.

Now they want to work more closely with council planners to design

:00:35.:00:39.

Alfreton Road in Nottingham is a good example of multiple fast

:00:40.:00:46.

food outlets all very close to each other.

:00:47.:00:49.

Now, Public Health England hsn't saying that all fast

:00:50.:00:52.

food is bad for you, but suggesting the authorithes might

:00:53.:00:55.

want to think about spreading out takeaways when planning othdr areas

:00:56.:00:59.

The figures for fast food ottlets show that Leicester is the highest

:01:00.:01:04.

Nottingham has 364 and Derby with 263.

:01:05.:01:11.

Public Health England says that there are 24 in Rutland.

:01:12.:01:15.

Rates of obesity and overwehght in children are highest in deprived

:01:16.:01:18.

areas and, therefore, perhaps fast-food is contributing

:01:19.:01:20.

towards those levels of obesity and overweight.

:01:21.:01:25.

The manager of this Turkish restaurant and takeaway agrdes

:01:26.:01:28.

with more separation of outlets but also says there is high demand

:01:29.:01:31.

It is very diverse and multicultural in this area ,

:01:32.:01:37.

in Nottingham, really - so there is a demand

:01:38.:01:39.

Whatever they are serving, there is always a demand

:01:40.:01:44.

because people from many different places and countries

:01:45.:01:46.

Health-wise, less takeaways and more healthy options is

:01:47.:01:50.

It is all takeaways and they are altogether,

:01:51.:01:59.

so it would be better to spread them a bit in other places.

:02:00.:02:03.

It's becoming a problem bec`use more and more takeaways are openhng

:02:04.:02:07.

and there is more and more temptation for people to just go

:02:08.:02:10.

and have something quick and not necessarily healthy.

:02:11.:02:15.

Public Health England says it is also working with food outlets

:02:16.:02:18.

to encourage them to reduce sugar, saturated fat

:02:19.:02:21.

The collapse of a Leicestershire firm has put 200 jobs at risk.

:02:22.:02:31.

Hodgson and Hodgson in Melton Mowbray has gone

:02:32.:02:35.

The firm was founded by two brothers from Nottingham and has

:02:36.:02:40.

It was a leading thermal insulation manufacturer,

:02:41.:02:45.

supplying the white goods, car and railway industries.

:02:46.:02:51.

A charity which helps homeldss and vulnerable people says

:02:52.:02:54.

it is desperate to move to larger premises to meet a growing

:02:55.:02:57.

Minnie's Friends in Loughborough provides meals, hot drinks

:02:58.:03:01.

and advice, but it only runs three days a week.

:03:02.:03:08.

Now the charity wants to expand its support,

:03:09.:03:10.

A busy morning at Minnie's Friends, based on Frederick Street

:03:11.:03:17.

People come here, like Andrew Watson.

:03:18.:03:21.

He's been living rough for two months after losing

:03:22.:03:24.

It is the only possessions I've got at the moment.

:03:25.:03:34.

I knew it's just a bag, but to me, it's my world.

:03:35.:03:39.

For Andrew, Minnie's Friends is a place where he can get

:03:40.:03:41.

It's more the warmth, and seeing that there are other

:03:42.:03:46.

It's just comforting because at least I can

:03:47.:03:52.

Alison Smart's been homeless for six years after losing her

:03:53.:03:57.

She's now got a room in local hostel.

:03:58.:04:03.

When you're homeless, you feel like you've got nothing.

:04:04.:04:05.

Minnie's Friends is really good because you can come here, xou can

:04:06.:04:10.

have a hot meal and a good chat socialise and meet people that

:04:11.:04:15.

are just the same, that had been in the same place.

:04:16.:04:19.

Carol Phillips started Minnie's Friends after her daughter

:04:20.:04:21.

I knew that there was a lot of call for help out there,

:04:22.:04:28.

When I lost my daughter 11 xears ago, she was 33, I couldn't get

:04:29.:04:34.

But now this charity is helping but says it needs to

:04:35.:04:41.

To take people from where they are now, to giving thel hope

:04:42.:04:49.

and giving them an opportunhty to have a fulfilled life is,

:04:50.:04:53.

And to do that, the charity says it needs permanent larger premhses

:04:54.:05:00.

to help provide longer term solutions to homelessness.

:05:01.:05:10.

A new tattoo studio has opened which offers help to people

:05:11.:05:13.

who are self-conscious because of scars.

:05:14.:05:16.

The man behind the venture has designed tattoos for stars

:05:17.:05:19.

He says clients are often moved to tears when he turns

:05:20.:05:24.

It's covered it really well, hasn't it?

:05:25.:05:31.

The final checks on a tattoo that has changed Annamarie Woolex's life.

:05:32.:05:38.

For nearly four years a deep scar on her arm

:05:39.:05:40.

It was just embarrassing, rdally, so I would always cover-up.

:05:41.:05:46.

Even in the summer I would never wear short tops.

:05:47.:05:50.

But now her scar has been transformed into a beautiful work

:05:51.:05:53.

of art, thanks to celebrity cartoonist Kevin Paul.

:05:54.:05:58.

As soon as I told her I could get rid of it, she had a tear in her eye

:05:59.:06:02.

straight away, so I kind of knew it was going to go well anyway.

:06:03.:06:06.

I have started kickboxing, I go to the gym, I go out

:06:07.:06:12.

I don't just sit at home moping any more.

:06:13.:06:15.

My confidence has just gone sky-high now.

:06:16.:06:18.

Kevin says he gets up to 30 calls a day enquiring about scar tattoos.

:06:19.:06:22.

He is now working alongside his wife in a new studio at Melbournd

:06:23.:06:25.

in Derbyshire, which specialises in skin treatment

:06:26.:06:29.

I don't think a lot of people realise the effect of having a bad

:06:30.:06:34.

tattoo or a scar has on your mental health.

:06:35.:06:36.

It does leave you psychologhcally damaged with it.

:06:37.:06:40.

You do try to cover it and you are very conscious of it.

:06:41.:06:43.

To be able to do that for somebody brilliant.

:06:44.:06:46.

It is a new direction for Kdvin who is world-famous for tattooing

:06:47.:06:48.

a host of celebrities, including singer Ed Sheeran

:06:49.:06:50.

Personally, the whole celebrity thing doesn't do anything for me,

:06:51.:06:56.

but stuff like that, were you get proper emotions

:06:57.:06:59.

That is a nice thing to do for someone.

:07:00.:07:03.

It makes me feel good about myself being able

:07:04.:07:05.

And Annamarie says her new tattoo has given her a new start.

:07:06.:07:10.

Oh, it is absolutely changed my life completely for the better.

:07:11.:07:13.

Tomorrow has been declared Nottingham in Parliament D`y

:07:14.:07:20.

when businesses will descend on the capital to promote the city

:07:21.:07:22.

It's being led by the University of Nottingham which plans

:07:23.:07:27.

to showcase many of its successful research projects.

:07:28.:07:30.

Quentin Rayner has been looking at some of them.

:07:31.:07:34.

Sir Peter Mansfield was the joint inventor of the MRI scanner

:07:35.:07:37.

The horizontal scanner is now indispensable in diagnosing

:07:38.:07:41.

But now there's been a 90 ddgree revolution in MRI technologx.

:07:42.:07:50.

Here at the QMC is one of the few vertical scanners in the cotntry.

:07:51.:07:55.

Now patients can stand, sit or lie using the flexible seat.

:07:56.:07:58.

It will greatly improve the accuracy of lung scans, but it also comes

:07:59.:08:02.

The big advantage of being `ble to scan people in the sitting

:08:03.:08:08.

or standing position is that you're studying them in a natural situation

:08:09.:08:11.

So the bearing of their own weight will affect the joint or thd lower

:08:12.:08:18.

back and that's exactly what we need to scan to understand what causes

:08:19.:08:21.

the pain and then to be able to advise the right

:08:22.:08:24.

We are told driverless cars are just around the corner and the university

:08:25.:08:30.

has a simulator to study how we respond to the technologx.

:08:31.:08:35.

Their levels of trust can bd quite low and they may just carry

:08:36.:08:39.

on touching the steering whdel, but then they build up quitd high

:08:40.:08:41.

levels of trust and acceptance and are more than happy to do

:08:42.:08:44.

a whole range of different activities in the car.

:08:45.:08:47.

Now we need to think very c`refully about the design of the intdriors

:08:48.:08:50.

for future vehicles, including perhaps retracting

:08:51.:08:53.

the steering wheel to allow people more space to use their laptops

:08:54.:08:56.

without feeling the need to push back from the pedals.

:08:57.:08:59.

Nottingham wants to remind parliament that this region

:09:00.:09:02.

is a vital cog in the Midlands engine and it's not

:09:03.:09:06.

That's your news, so it's goodbye from me, but with your

:09:07.:09:14.

Good evening. It is not a b`d forecast for this week conshdering

:09:15.:09:28.

it is the last week in October. We are staying largely drive. Lild

:09:29.:09:32.

temperatures on the way, gohng up by a degree or two as we lose the

:09:33.:09:36.

easterly breeze, turning to a westerly. Plenty of cloud on the way

:09:37.:09:44.

with some sunny spells in the mix. We are staying largely drivd.

:09:45.:09:47.

Looking at this evening we have plenty in the way of cloud. There

:09:48.:09:51.

will be a few breaks through the night, variable levels of cloud and

:09:52.:09:59.

the risk of a shower. A low of seven or eight Celsius. Plenty of --

:10:00.:10:06.

plenty in the way of cloud tomorrow morning, but there will be

:10:07.:10:10.

brightness. Southern parts of the region seeing more low cloud and

:10:11.:10:15.

less of the brightness. A m`ximum of 12 Celsius at the easterly breeze.

:10:16.:10:19.

Moving into Wednesday, that is when we will see a change in the weather.

:10:20.:10:23.

The wind will change from an easterly to westerly directhon and

:10:24.:10:26.

that would bring ghost tempdratures up on what we have seen so far.

:10:27.:10:30.

There is the chance of seeing a bit of Mr Rudd first thing and that

:10:31.:10:33.

could be slow to cure on Wednesday, but then we have plenty of sunny

:10:34.:10:38.

spells as we move through the day. Temperatures at a maximum of 14

:10:39.:10:42.

Celsius with the south-westdrly breeze. But the estate, plenty of

:10:43.:10:47.

the way of cloud. We will sde the chants of some missed the fhrst

:10:48.:10:51.

thing but some brightness as well and some sunny spells likelx. A

:10:52.:10:56.

maximum of 14 Celsius. Frid`y looking like a similar storx, but of

:10:57.:11:01.

Mr Rudd. Sunny spells and temperatures of 14 Celsius. Here is

:11:02.:11:02.

the weekend, more of the same, mainly

:11:03.:11:06.

dry and feeling very mild. Now your national weather.

:11:07.:11:11.

Good evening, major changes in the weather over the next couple of

:11:12.:11:17.

days, the result being it will turn milder by day and also by night A

:11:18.:11:22.

breeze picking up, a westerly, something we have not seen much of

:11:23.:11:26.

this month. But there will not be a great deal of rain around. We did

:11:27.:11:30.

have rain today across the south-west, leaden skies in Bristol,

:11:31.:11:35.

not much of a sunset here, but the different North of the border. Fiery

:11:36.:11:39.

skies here and it is turning

:11:40.:11:40.
