Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:17.
With your news now for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn. | :00:18. | :00:21.
First tonight - a judge has said that it's considered that a missing | :00:22. | :00:25.
mum poses a risk of harm to her two sons, | :00:26. | :00:27.
It's been five days now since the last sighting of Samantha | :00:28. | :00:33.
-- It's been five days now since the last sighting | :00:34. | :00:35.
of Samantha Baldwin in Nottingham city centre. | :00:36. | :00:37.
Initially a missing persons appeal, it became an abduction | :00:38. | :00:39.
investigation on Wednesday, when it was revealed the Newark mum | :00:40. | :00:41.
didn't have custody of her young sons Dylan and Louis. | :00:42. | :00:44.
We now know they were removed from her care on Monday | :00:45. | :00:47.
Ports and airports were put on alert as the investigation widened, | :00:48. | :00:52.
and, yesterday, officers began house-to-house enquiries in Newark | :00:53. | :00:54.
to build up a picture of Samantha's last known movements. | :00:55. | :00:57.
Well, earlier, I spoke to the superintendent leading | :00:58. | :01:05.
the investigation, and asked what the scale | :01:06. | :01:06.
We have over 100 officers from the East Midlands region out | :01:07. | :01:12.
there in the search for Samantha and the boys, following up | :01:13. | :01:14.
lines of enquiry, sightings, and they are the length and breadth | :01:15. | :01:17.
And again, I want to urge this appeal on a national basis. | :01:18. | :01:21.
And we need people to, if they see anybody that they think | :01:22. | :01:31.
fits that description, if you have to have adouble-take, | :01:32. | :01:33.
fits that description, if you have to have a double-take, | :01:34. | :01:35.
if you have to look twice, check the photos and let us know | :01:36. | :01:39.
I'm increasingly concerned for the welfare those two boys | :01:40. | :01:42.
and I want them back safe and well as quickly as possible. | :01:43. | :01:45.
And you said there have been sightings. | :01:46. | :01:46.
You've been appealing directly to Samantha to make contact. | :01:47. | :01:49.
Is there a risk she's left the country with the boys? | :01:50. | :01:52.
Whilst there is no indication that Samantha has left | :01:53. | :01:54.
the country with the two boys, again it's something | :01:55. | :01:57.
that we cannot rule out. I won't rule anything out. | :01:58. | :01:59.
We will put whatever resources we need to to continue the search | :02:00. | :02:02.
to find those two boys and get them back safely. | :02:03. | :02:08.
Wherever they are, they have been evading you for this time. | :02:09. | :02:11.
How confident are you that someone may be helping them | :02:12. | :02:13.
and what would you say to that person? | :02:14. | :02:16.
I think it's increasingly difficult, um, to evade capture for this long | :02:17. | :02:19.
I would urge those people to do the right thing and give us | :02:20. | :02:30.
the information that will help us get Dylan and Louis | :02:31. | :02:32.
OK, Superintendent Richard Fretwell, thank you very much for your time. | :02:33. | :02:40.
A man who rescued two people from a Derbyshire canal has been | :02:41. | :02:46.
It came after a collision on a bridge saw them plummet | :02:47. | :02:49.
Billy Miller was on his way home from work at the time, | :02:50. | :02:53.
when he saw the car go over the side of the bridge in Swarkestone. | :02:54. | :02:57.
Our reporter Navtej Johal has been to meet him. | :02:58. | :03:03.
So I caught the brick and managed to smash the glass. | :03:04. | :03:07.
As I got in towards the car, I managed to get her underneath | :03:08. | :03:10.
her arms and lift her out through the side of... | :03:11. | :03:12.
I noticed there was another man facing down | :03:13. | :03:16.
So I lifted the lady out and I managed to help | :03:17. | :03:21.
with the man as well from underneath | :03:22. | :03:23.
The dramatic story of how this 42-year-old carpenter helped | :03:24. | :03:31.
to rescue two people from Derbyshire canal after a collision | :03:32. | :03:33.
which saw a car and pedestrian fall into the water. | :03:34. | :03:37.
Billy, at any point, did you think about your own safety | :03:38. | :03:41.
and what might happen to you before you jump into the water? | :03:42. | :03:43.
Why did you think that is? I don't know. | :03:44. | :03:49.
The only thing I can say is that I didn't really think | :03:50. | :03:52.
By the time I even thought about what I was doing, | :03:53. | :03:56.
Your actions made our job ten times easier. | :03:57. | :04:03.
And today, his actions were recognised by | :04:04. | :04:05.
People don't usually jump into a canal and rescue two people, | :04:06. | :04:11.
I've been in the ambulance service about 15 years and I can probably | :04:12. | :04:18.
pick out in one hand the amount of times that I've seen people | :04:19. | :04:21.
doing Billy's actions, so, yeah, it's quite rare. | :04:22. | :04:23.
Billy's actions were admirable and they're very much appreciated, | :04:24. | :04:26.
but you need to look after yourself as well at the scenes. | :04:27. | :04:28.
What do you make of all this fuss? I feel a bit silly. | :04:29. | :04:32.
Do you really? Yeah, I think it's... | :04:33. | :04:34.
Yeah, it was just one of them things. | :04:35. | :04:38.
I was the person that was in the place at the time | :04:39. | :04:41.
to be able to do that, that was all it was. | :04:42. | :04:44.
The pedestrian remains in hospital while | :04:45. | :04:45.
the elderly woman was discharged after suffering minor injuries. | :04:46. | :04:48.
Billy says his thoughts are with them. | :04:49. | :04:51.
Navtej Johal, BBC East Midlands Today. | :04:52. | :04:58.
A day of celebrations is planned for England's | :04:59. | :05:04.
smallest county tomorrow - 20 years since Rutland | :05:05. | :05:06.
The flags are flying proudly in Rutland. | :05:07. | :05:09.
The original was raised in April 1997 as independence was met | :05:10. | :05:12.
Some critics say Rutland ought to amalgamate again with | :05:13. | :05:17.
a bigger authority to cut costs. But not everyone agrees. | :05:18. | :05:21.
We are a low-cost council, probably the third lowest cost | :05:22. | :05:23.
per head council in the country, so we are very efficient | :05:24. | :05:28.
at what we do, and I think, if we were to be amalgamated | :05:29. | :05:31.
into another county, that loss of independence, | :05:32. | :05:33.
loss of direction, not being able to be masters of our own destiny, | :05:34. | :05:36.
A foundation set up by a former Leicester Tigers player has given | :05:37. | :05:43.
out more than ?1 million in grants to people who've suffered | :05:44. | :05:45.
Matt Hampson was injured 12 years ago when he was | :05:46. | :05:50.
A scrum collapsed and he was left paralysed from the neck down. | :05:51. | :05:57.
Since then, he's dedicated his life to helping others. | :05:58. | :05:59.
His Get Busy Living Centre will open in September. | :06:00. | :06:03.
We'll be able to offer people, um, in the same situation as myself | :06:04. | :06:09.
a hope and a purpose for the rest of our lives. | :06:10. | :06:15.
And in sport, just one result for you tonight. | :06:16. | :06:18.
A win for Derby over QPR sees the Rams now just six points off | :06:19. | :06:21.
It ended 1-0 to Derby at Pride Park a little while ago. | :06:22. | :06:26.
More news and sport from me across the weekend, | :06:27. | :06:28.
but let's check now on the weather - Lucy's here. | :06:29. | :06:33.
Thank you and good evening. Looking slightly cooler than today, | :06:34. | :06:40.
temperatures down a couple of degrees but still fairly mild, | :06:41. | :06:47.
temperatures in the mid teens. Into Saturday it will be sunny spells and | :06:48. | :06:51.
showers, high pressure in charge on Sunday so it will be more settled, | :06:52. | :06:55.
dry with some bright intervals through the day. This evening and | :06:56. | :07:00.
overnight, some cloud around as we move into the early hours, which | :07:01. | :07:05.
could bring some outbreaks of rain, overnight low temperatures of 9 | :07:06. | :07:08.
degrees, slightly cooler than last night. Into tomorrow, cloud around | :07:09. | :07:14.
to begin with, some outbreaks of rain, but into the afternoon the | :07:15. | :07:18.
cloud breaking, sunny spells developing and one or two showers | :07:19. | :07:23.
that have the potential to be quite heavy and containing thunder. | :07:24. | :07:27.
Temperatures with a maximum of 14 degrees. Sunday, fairly dry and | :07:28. | :07:32.
bright, temperatures around 13 degrees. That is | :07:33. | :07:37.
Hello. There the weekend is here and Sunday looks like being the better | :07:38. | :07:44.
day of the two. We're going to start the weekend, a new month, with | :07:45. | :07:48.
sunshine and April showers. Those fade away overnight. Saturday night | :07:49. | :07:52.
could be chilly. It points to a fine day on | :07:53. | :07:53. |
