The people living in one of three villages on the proposed route

for HS2, have been seeing today the effect the trains

High speed trains are expected to run through Packington near Ashby

every three minutes - seven days a week.

Villagers claim the noise alone would be intolerable and dangerous,

and they're calling for the government to reconsider.

The normally quiet village of Packington.

But every few minutes this morning, the peace and quiet was disrupted.

It was all part of an exhibition raising awareness of the impact

We've got the sound of HS2 blasting out around the village.

We've got some scaffolding and we've got some flags

So people get a feel of what it actually really going to look like.

Today, as organisers had hoped, hundreds of villagers

It's coming a lot closer to the village than I expected

and the impact on the infrastructure of the village, including

the primary school, is going to be much greater than I had anticipated.

Beforehand, it would have created huge problems but, now,

HS2 has told us that barriers and earth mounds will eventually be

used to reduce the noise but packing to residents also estimate that

They say it doesn't need to be this way.

The reality is there is a third route that goes two kilometres east

of Packington where it's got 90% less impact on communities.

A full consultation is currently underway and residents

are being urged to respond before the deadline on the 9th of March.

An antiques centre in Derbyshire had to be evacuated

No-one inside was harmed, but witnesses say a member of staff

A chapel in Nottinghamshire that's been restored by volunteers -

It was another windy day today and through the weekend we are going to

keep those wins. We have some weather fronts working their way in

from the west but brief respite tomorrow. Plenty of cloud cover and

the rain keeping temperatures. We could see some mist patches

blanket of cloud but Scotland and Northern Ireland brightened up as

the day went off. Underneath the cloud in England and Wales, quite a

bit of rain at the moment, drifting southwards and East. It will

continue to do so. In the small hours the rain will become patchy,

and most will give way to the continent. There will be some

breaks, particularly to the East of Scotland, where there could be a

touch of frost. Next batch of rain into the western side of Scotland

first thing, moving east with a little snow over higher ground.
