With your news now for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn.

:00:10.:00:14.

A British superbike rider has died after a crash during a race

:00:15.:00:17.

An investigation into the cause is under way,

:00:18.:00:22.

while friends of Mick Whalley, from Kent, have been paying tribute,

:00:23.:00:24.

Mick Whalley, who was in his early 40s, was competing ahead of

:00:25.:00:30.

the British Superbike Championships when the crash happened.

:00:31.:00:34.

Mick was such a bighearted guy with such a big lust for life.

:00:35.:00:40.

If he wasn't at work he was out and about doing

:00:41.:00:43.

something fun and exciting, and just to hear that he's gone

:00:44.:00:46.

The management here at Donington Park said

:00:47.:00:52.

Mr Whalley and other riders who were injured were treated

:00:53.:00:59.

He died later at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

:01:00.:01:06.

Leicestershire Police, along with staff here

:01:07.:01:09.

and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board are

:01:10.:01:12.

He's always been what we call a petrolhead, I guess,

:01:13.:01:18.

More recently he got into track racing.

:01:19.:01:24.

And at the track today, a minute's silence from the crowd

:01:25.:01:27.

for the keen biker and father of two teenage boys.

:01:28.:01:32.

:01:33.:01:37.

The first trains to stop in Ilkeston in 50 years pulled

:01:38.:01:40.

Until the ?10 million station was unveiled,

:01:41.:01:45.

Ilkeston was said to be one of the biggest towns

:01:46.:01:47.

in Britain with a passenger line running through it,

:01:48.:01:49.

The town's previous station closed following the infamous

:01:50.:01:53.

My dad was the last Station Master at Ilkeston Junction station so we

:01:54.:02:10.

are here today because it is a very significant day. I think it is

:02:11.:02:14.

lovely that they have done this, that they have opened the station

:02:15.:02:18.

again, marvellous. It has been really good, very busy, lots of

:02:19.:02:22.

people coming to going -- and going and for me it will be great because

:02:23.:02:26.

I will use it to go to Manchester Airport to see my relatives in

:02:27.:02:30.

America. I think it is great, it will really open up opportunities

:02:31.:02:35.

for people in Ilkeston and the surrounding areas. A ten minute walk

at Ashmount School in Loughborough. These children have a

:02:50.:02:51.

wide range of needs. Finding the right way to communicate

:02:52.:02:54.

with each one is essential So, here at Ashmount,

:02:55.:02:58.

we have classes with 12 students in and six support staff,

:02:59.:03:03.

and we break that down into smaller groups,

:03:04.:03:05.

so some of them might be using Makaton signing,

:03:06.:03:08.

some might be using symbols, and some might be using objects just

which Ashmount is now sharing We are committed to upskilling
