degrees at best. So something called

on the way. Thanks very

0:00:000:00:03

On BBC London...

0:00:030:00:05

We're in Croydon on the first

anniversary of the tram crash -

0:00:050:00:08

as a special service is held

to remember the victims.

0:00:080:00:14

Everyone was working so hard

together, to do the best that we

0:00:140:00:17

could for the people on the tram.

0:00:170:00:22

We hear from those who were first

on the scene and hear from those

0:00:220:00:25

who lives have been changed forever.

0:00:250:00:29

I still suffer from a bit of

depression. Memory loss. Mood swings

0:00:290:00:37

than that. My wife has said that

I've changed a lot.

0:00:370:00:40

Also on the programme tonight...

0:00:400:00:50

Following the Grenfell fire... Calls

from labour for the government to

0:00:510:00:53

fund the retro-fitting of sprinklers

in all high rise social housing.

0:00:530:00:56

And...

0:00:560:00:56

The karate club facing financial

ruin following the collapse

0:00:560:01:03

of Monarch, now celebrating

after a billionaire

0:01:030:01:04

came to their rescue.

0:01:050:01:09

Good evening.

0:01:110:01:16

Welcome to the programme from a busy

Croydon fill Earth commuters, buses

0:01:160:01:24

and trams. One year ago it was a

different picture to today, this was

0:01:240:01:32

a community in shock after a tram

derailed not far from here, killing

0:01:320:01:37

seven people and injuring 51 others.

Lives cut short by what should have

0:01:370:01:41

been an ordinary morning commute

which changed into anything but.

0:01:410:01:46

Today they were remembered as their

families stood along survivors and

0:01:460:01:50

emergency workers who were first on

the scene for a special service

0:01:500:01:54

close to the site of the crash.

0:01:540:01:59

We have two reports tonight -

the first from Marc Ashdown

0:01:590:02:01

on a day to reflect.

0:02:010:02:02

One by one they laid flowers.

0:02:020:02:04

To pay tribute.

0:02:040:02:05

To reflect.

0:02:050:02:06

To support each other.

0:02:060:02:07

And to remember their loved ones.

0:02:070:02:09

Seven Londoners who exactly one year

ago boarded a tram and lost

0:02:090:02:11

their lives.

0:02:110:02:12

There has not been a minute

of any hour of any day in

0:02:120:02:16

this last year he has not

been in our thoughts.

0:02:160:02:23

One family's suffering shared

by an entire community, every

0:02:230:02:25

face here has a story.

0:02:250:02:26

Bereaved families,

survivors and those who

0:02:260:02:33

simply live in this quiet corner

of London devastated by tragedy.

0:02:330:02:37

A year may have passed

but emotions are still raw.

0:02:370:02:39

Sometimes I cry and nobody

knows how to feel.

0:02:390:02:42

2 or 3 days before today I have

had a of flashbacks.

0:02:420:02:44

2 or 3 days before today I have had

a lot of flashbacks.

0:02:470:02:51

I had one this morning

like I was on the tram again.

0:02:510:02:56

Since that day I have

not been on a tram.

0:02:560:02:59

On a cold and drizzly morning I saw

some amazing people do some truly

0:02:590:03:02

courageous things.

0:03:020:03:03

A difficult day for

the emergency services who one

0:03:030:03:05

year ago battled in horrendous

conditions trying to save lives.

0:03:050:03:07

Everyone was working

so hard together.

0:03:070:03:11

To do the best that we could

0:03:120:03:13

for the people on the tram.

0:03:130:03:16

And number of our staff are members

of this community, they have worked

0:03:160:03:20

for the Ambulance Service for

a number of years and I think they

0:03:200:03:24

have felt the impact of that as much

as the people directly involved.

0:03:240:03:28

The plinth here and another to be

installed near the crash site is to

0:03:280:03:32

be a permanent memorial inscribed

with the names of those who perished

0:03:320:03:39

so they can be forever remembered.

0:03:390:03:46

Sergeant Chris Morbey from the

British Transport Police who we saw

0:03:460:03:50

in Mark's report has kindly joined

us. Thank you for being here. 12

0:03:500:03:56

months have passed but you were

clearly overcome with emotion at the

0:03:560:04:01

service?

Yes, it's amazing how these

emotions run deep. You try and put

0:04:010:04:05

on the best face you can. But

obviously, it affects you much more

0:04:050:04:10

than I thought it had.

None of us

underestimate the incredible work of

0:04:100:04:18

the emergency services. But you were

on the scene within minutes of the

0:04:180:04:22

crash. Personally, how do you cope

with what you saw that day?

It's

0:04:220:04:28

really hard, you try and distract

yourself from thinking about it too

0:04:280:04:31

much. You've got to deal with the

crime scene that is there but there

0:04:310:04:35

is the desire to help as much as you

can. You've got your own area of

0:04:350:04:40

work. You cannot get in the way of

the ambulance that are there, the

0:04:400:04:44

fire brigade in charge of safety.

You want to get in and helped the

0:04:440:04:49

best you can buy really you've got

to prioritise your job -- but really

0:04:490:04:54

you've got to prioritise your job.

It is humbling when you say that you

0:04:540:04:59

are not heroes, you were just doing

your job?

It is correct, I said at

0:04:590:05:04

the Memorial, the heroes are the

families who have got to carry on

0:05:040:05:07

but also the people of Croydon who

came to help us. The nursery around

0:05:070:05:13

the corner of giving us tea and

coffee. It doesn't sound a lot, but

0:05:130:05:18

a cup of tea and a hug is fantastic.

It really helps at a time like that.

0:05:180:05:29

This has changed families and lives

forever. At the Memorial, did you

0:05:290:05:33

get the sense that people were

taking comfort from people coming

0:05:330:05:36

together?

I hope that they did. For

myself, looking out among all of the

0:05:360:05:43

victims and their families, some of

them I had not seen since last year.

0:05:430:05:49

I think that's why I got so

emotional, seeing their faces but

0:05:490:05:52

also that they are alive and well,

and continuing with their lives.

0:05:520:05:58

They are my heroes. They are so

brave, to be able to spend their

0:05:580:06:03

time and come and join others to

support.

Chris Morbey, thank you so

0:06:030:06:08

much for everything that you and

your colleagues did and thank you

0:06:080:06:11

for joining us this evening. We

really appreciate it. Thank you. As

0:06:110:06:17

you can imagine, many people clearly

affected by what happened and for

0:06:170:06:21

some, the tragedy has left them with

life changing injuries. Our

0:06:210:06:25

transport correspondent Tom Edwards

has heard from one survivor about

0:06:250:06:28

the lasting impact of the crash and

what is now being done to make tram

0:06:280:06:32

travel safer...

0:06:320:06:35

I remember thinking

to myself, he's going...

0:06:350:06:37

He's going a bit quick,

that sort of thing?

0:06:370:06:39

I thought nothing more

of it and carried on

0:06:390:06:41

reading my magazine.

0:06:410:06:42

The next thing I know

I was waking up in the

0:06:420:06:45

hospital.

0:06:450:06:46

That's it.

0:06:460:06:47

I was knocked unconscious.

0:06:470:06:48

You still can't remember that now?

0:06:480:06:49

No, I don't remember

the actual incident.

0:06:490:06:51

Matthew still doesn't

remember what happened

0:06:510:06:52

in the tram crash one year ago.

0:06:520:06:54

He suffered a severe head injury

and it's been a tough 12

0:06:540:06:57

months.

0:06:570:06:58

What is done is done.

0:06:580:06:59

There's no point

being bitter about it.

0:06:590:07:09

What about your health,

how is your health one year on?

0:07:100:07:13

You suffered a really

bad head injury.

0:07:130:07:14

How are you now?

0:07:140:07:15

I still suffer from

a bit of depression.

0:07:150:07:17

Memory loss, I have trouble

remembering things.

0:07:170:07:19

And mood swings than that.

0:07:190:07:25

He's not worked as an

HGV driver since, he

0:07:250:07:28

has received interim compensation

payments but it has turned his life

0:07:280:07:30

upside down.

0:07:300:07:32

Your life is just completely,

completely different

0:07:320:07:33

now?

0:07:330:07:37

It is, yeah, but I'm working

on trying and getting my life back.

0:07:370:07:43

Are you still positive?

0:07:430:07:44

Yeah, yeah, I'm going

to try and stay positive.

0:07:440:07:48

Matthew was on board this

tram when it overturned.

0:07:480:07:50

A preliminary report found

that it was travelling at 46

0:07:500:07:53

mph on the corner where

the speed limit is 13 mph.

0:07:530:07:56

Unusually, investigators

have already made

0:07:560:07:57

recommendations.

0:07:570:08:02

The report into this incident

is nearing completion,

0:08:020:08:05

as yet we still don't know why

the driver was speeding on this very

0:08:050:08:10

tight corner here at Sandilands.

0:08:100:08:13

The early indications

from the investigators though

0:08:130:08:16

are that they will recommend some

kind of

0:08:160:08:18

automatic mechanism

to prevent speeding.

0:08:180:08:24

And also a system that will detect

whether the driver isn't

0:08:240:08:27

paying attention.

0:08:270:08:29

Since the crash, it has

emerged a number of drivers

0:08:290:08:31

had fallen asleep at the controls.

0:08:320:08:35

TfL has now installed this equipment

on all of their trams, and it

0:08:350:08:38

uses infrared to detect

if the driver is falling asleep.

0:08:380:08:41

Warning signs and further

speed restrictions

0:08:410:08:43

are now in place on tight corners.

0:08:430:08:49

Solicitors say they want any more

recommendations to be incremented

0:08:490:08:51

quickly.

0:08:510:08:54

I think the detail will be important

for them to understand

0:08:540:08:56

exactly what happened

and how it happened.

0:08:560:08:59

The next step is to ensure this

never happens again.

0:08:590:09:02

The legacy from this

has to be that this

0:09:020:09:04

doesn't happen again.

0:09:040:09:09

I've always said that it is

important that trams

0:09:090:09:18

are treated more like

trains than buses.

0:09:180:09:19

It's a key feature.

0:09:200:09:21

I hope the lessons

have now been learned.

0:09:210:09:23

While changes are now

being made on London's trams,

0:09:230:09:25

for Matthew and many others it

will take much longer to

0:09:250:09:27

get his life back.

0:09:280:09:29

Tom Edwards, BBC London news.

0:09:290:09:34

Someone else trying to get his life

back is Martin Bamford, he was also

0:09:340:09:40

injured in the crash. With him is

solicitor Helen Clifford, you

0:09:400:09:45

represent several other survivors.

Martin, if I could ask, you were in

0:09:450:09:49

the front carriage and you say that

yes, you've had physical injuries

0:09:490:09:53

but it is actually the psychological

effects which continue, tell us what

0:09:530:09:58

you mean?

I have nightmares most

nights. I have good days and I have

0:09:580:10:05

bad days, sometimes I have really

bad days. The help at the moment is

0:10:050:10:10

limited, really. And getting support

and that, it is hard, you know? The

0:10:100:10:16

effect it has had on me and my

family, it is not where I want to

0:10:160:10:20

be. It's not how I want to be.

Do

you feel that you get enough

0:10:200:10:26

support?

Not really. I am getting

support but some of the support that

0:10:260:10:30

I get, it is not... They are not

doing what they are meant to be

0:10:300:10:35

doing as such. It isn't helping in

any way at all.

Helen, TfL have told

0:10:350:10:42

us in regard to Martin's case, they

say that they are concerned to hear

0:10:420:10:47

that he feels he is not getting

enough support but they have

0:10:470:10:52

provided eight interim payments. His

case is not in isolation is it?

It

0:10:520:10:57

isn't, all survivors suffer from the

same problem, the psychological

0:10:570:11:02

impact from the incident is

significant.

Are people like Martin,

0:11:020:11:06

we've heard from other survivors on

the programme, are they being

0:11:060:11:10

forgotten, lost in the system, or

not cared about?

I think TfL have

0:11:100:11:16

provided some support, it surprises

me an organisation like that would

0:11:160:11:20

not have better support in place.

They need to look at also by this

0:11:200:11:27

individually, and assess their needs

and provide for them accordingly. To

0:11:270:11:31

get his life back on track, Martyn

needs proper psychological support

0:11:310:11:35

to do that.

Martin, if there's one

thing they could do immediately to

0:11:350:11:40

help, what would that be? I know

that it is a long process.

There are

0:11:400:11:45

so many things they can help with.

Since the tram crash, I've been made

0:11:450:11:50

homeless twice as a result of losing

my job and have had to stay in a

0:11:500:11:55

caravan. I fear that every month I

will be made homeless. Because I

0:11:550:12:01

miss payments in rent. I need

counselling that will help me,

0:12:010:12:06

someone who will help me with the

nightmares.

TfL say they've met

0:12:060:12:14

requests for interim financial

support, if it was made directly to

0:12:140:12:17

them. Is there a sense of a

timescale for more help?

We've been

0:12:170:12:22

in contact and had meetings with

them and they have responded but the

0:12:220:12:26

situation is, I do not think they

anticipated the level of support

0:12:260:12:29

that people would need and how

severe the symptoms were going to be

0:12:290:12:33

and how long that they would last

for.

Thank you very much indeed.

0:12:330:12:38

Martin, we wish you all the best. We

know from earlier in Tom's report

0:12:380:12:45

that there have already been some

recommendations after the tram

0:12:450:12:49

crash. A final report into the

investigation hasn't yet happened.

0:12:490:12:54

That is due at the end of the year.

From here in Croydon, that's all

0:12:540:12:58

from us. Our hand you back to Louisa

in the studio for the rest of

0:12:580:13:02

today's news. STUDIO: Thank you.

0:13:020:13:06

Jeremy Corbyn is calling

on Theresa May to fund

0:13:060:13:08

the retrofitting of sprinklers

in all high rise social

0:13:080:13:10

housing following the

Grenfell Tower block blaze.

0:13:100:13:12

Speaking today the labour

leader said Grenfell

0:13:120:13:13

was an avoidable tragedy...

0:13:130:13:14

And called on the government

to commit £1 billion to make

0:13:140:13:17

social housing safer.

0:13:170:13:18

Our political correspondent

Karl Mercer reports.

0:13:180:13:26

Croydon likes to show off what it is

doing in its tower blocks. By the

0:13:260:13:30

end of next spring, £1300 in 25

blogs over ten stories high will

0:13:300:13:35

have had this done to them.

Sprinklers are being retrofitted

0:13:350:13:39

into the old blocks.

As you can see,

it is newly fitted...

It's about

0:13:390:13:45

reassuring the residents.

If a fire

started here and temperatures hit 57

0:13:450:13:50

degrees, the cap would come off the

front.

But it comes with a £10

0:13:500:13:55

million price tag.

Like other

councils, Grenfell changed

0:13:550:13:59

absolutely everything. On the first

day that we were looking at our

0:13:590:14:03

housing stock, our tenant safety was

paramount. We looked at what

0:14:030:14:07

happened at Grenfell and decided the

best way forward was retrofitting

0:14:070:14:11

sprinklers in our tallest blocks.

The Labour Party today called on the

0:14:110:14:15

government to foot the bill, £1

billion across the country. We

0:14:150:14:19

-- he said this.

Retrofitting of

sprinkler systems is a basic demand

0:14:230:14:27

but one that will save lives if the

government decides to make it

0:14:270:14:31

happen... Grenfell was unavoidable

tragedy. It did not have to happen.

0:14:310:14:37

It would not have happened if

adequate precautions, including

0:14:370:14:42

sprinklers, were in place.

Croydon

has written to government twice

0:14:420:14:45

asking for money and twice it has

been told it will not get any. The

0:14:450:14:50

government would not be interviewed

today but they said that nothing was

0:14:500:14:52

more important than keeping people

safe. They said they commissioned a

0:14:520:14:56

review of fire safety. They went on

to say that they had been clear that

0:14:560:15:01

where a local authority has concerns

on funding, essential fire safety

0:15:010:15:05

measures, they should contact us as

soon as possible to discuss their

0:15:050:15:09

position. Croydon says it will foot

the bill for sprinklers.

0:15:090:15:17

But other projects may have to be

sacrificed.

0:15:170:15:20

The Surrey coroner says he will

consider whether the inquests

0:15:200:15:22

of the victims of the Guildford Pub

bombings should resume.

0:15:220:15:25

Five people were killed

in the IRA blast in 1974.

0:15:250:15:27

The sister of one of the four men

convicted and then later

0:15:270:15:30

acquitted has called

for the inquests to re-start.

0:15:300:15:32

The families of the victims are now

being consulted on their views.

0:15:320:15:36

We've been hearing this week

about people feeling the squeeze

0:15:360:15:39

with the cost of living in London,

and the debt that can often result.

0:15:390:15:44

It means growing numbers of people

are being forced to look

0:15:440:15:47

at different ways of working -

whether that's part time,

0:15:470:15:49

working for themselves,

or having to take on two jobs.

0:15:490:15:52

Victoria Hollins has more.

0:15:520:15:58

Higher rent, wage stagnation, for

lots of reasons many people are

0:15:580:16:01

feeling the squeeze and it means the

way we work is changing. There are

0:16:010:16:05

now more than a million part-time

workers in London, nearly a quarter

0:16:050:16:09

of the capital's workforce. Latest

official figures show there is a big

0:16:090:16:15

rise in the number of people who are

self-employed, 882,000 in London.

0:16:150:16:21

Now 19% of the workforce. More

people than ever before, 160,000

0:16:210:16:28

people, are working two jobs. Some

fruit choice, others through

0:16:280:16:33

necessity. Allicin derby lives in a

studio flat in Stratford, she works

0:16:330:16:39

two jobs, an office job in the city

and in a pub in evenings and

0:16:390:16:44

weekends.

It is hard to work seven

days a week for realistically two

0:16:440:16:48

years.

Despite that, she has almost

nothing left and relies on her

0:16:480:16:55

parents for hand-outs.

Finish work

at five o'clock, get to the new job

0:16:550:17:02

the seven o'clock, sleep, eat and go

to work again. That's how it will

0:17:020:17:06

be. The time I do get off, I sleep.

This man is working his way in the

0:17:060:17:13

TV industry. He also has a part-time

job in a bar and couldn't survive

0:17:130:17:17

without it. Like a growing number of

people his age, he has racked up

0:17:170:17:22

debt.

It's a lot of money to pay

back, in a short amount of time as

0:17:220:17:26

well. When I had to sell my car it

was a painful experience but the

0:17:260:17:34

extra money was needed.

For many,

having two jobs is a necessity but

0:17:340:17:38

it can feel like living hand to

mouth.

I see it as if I put the

0:17:380:17:44

graft in now, it will work out in

the future.

I would just like to be

0:17:440:17:48

able to try new things, have a night

out, have a nice dinner, see my

0:17:480:17:54

family, have weekends free. I don't

think that's much, maybe I'm wrong.

0:17:540:17:59

Technological changes have made it

easier to work several jobs. Some

0:17:590:18:12

people love the flexibility of

short-term or hourly employment but

0:18:120:18:14

there can be a trade-off with job

security.

I think it's a question of

0:18:140:18:17

getting the balance right. You don't

want to stifle the flexibility at

0:18:170:18:20

the heart of this way of working

because employers benefit from it so

0:18:200:18:22

you don't want to stifle that but

it's important to ensure people

0:18:220:18:25

working this way are properly

protected and not exploited. It's a

0:18:250:18:30

question of where the balance is and

maybe that's an issue not for

0:18:300:18:34

employers or individuals but for

those regulating the labour market

0:18:340:18:38

to think about.

Nearly half of

London's workforce is either

0:18:380:18:43

self-employed, working two jobs or

working but savings down and debt

0:18:430:18:48

up, the up, the many the world of

work feels more precarious than

0:18:480:18:52

never.

0:18:520:18:54

Still to come on the programme...

0:18:540:18:56

Normally found living

in warmer waters...

0:18:560:18:57

The seahorses discovered thriving

in the River Thames near Greenwich.

0:18:570:19:00

Hundreds of people living in tower

blocks in south London have been

0:19:070:19:10

without heating and hot water

for nearly a week after their gas

0:19:100:19:13

supply was turned off

because of safety concerns.

0:19:130:19:18

More than 300 homes were cut off

in Stockwell leaving elderly

0:19:180:19:22

residents and young children coping

with the cold conditions and it's

0:19:220:19:25

not the first time it's happened.

0:19:250:19:26

Sonja Jessup reports.

0:19:260:19:28

Even with the help of her electric

heater, choice is wearing a coat

0:19:280:19:35

inside her home. She's had no gas

supply for nearly a week.

It's

0:19:350:19:40

making life very difficult here. We

have one resident who is nearly 90.

0:19:400:19:46

On this floor alone we have two

young babies. We are paying for

0:19:460:19:50

this, we shouldn't be in a state

like this.

This is one of four tower

0:19:500:19:55

blocks in stock well with no

communal heating. The supply turned

0:19:550:20:00

off due to safety concerns after a

potential leak was found. Residents

0:20:000:20:14

say it's like living in an icebox.

I

have one-year-old twins and I'm

0:20:220:20:25

having to double up on blankets and

put the blow heater on all night

0:20:250:20:27

which costs a lot of money but I

don't want my kids to get sick

0:20:270:20:30

because of it. Boiling water,

bringing it upstairs in pots. I have

0:20:300:20:33

to get up early, oil water and bring

it upstairs for her to have a bath,

0:20:330:20:36

ridiculous.

Residents are advised to

use immersion heaters but many say

0:20:360:20:39

they cannot afford it. Residents are

frustrated because they say two

0:20:390:20:43

years ago they were left without

heating and hot water for 11 days

0:20:430:20:48

after the boilers failed and they

stopped working again one year

0:20:480:20:51

later. The housing association has

apologised and said its consulting

0:20:510:20:55

with residents about replacing the

heating system.

This is a very huge,

0:20:550:21:01

complicated process and we have good

to get this right but we are working

0:21:010:21:05

tirelessly and have been for the

past week to make sure we bring the

0:21:050:21:09

heating back on.

Today temporary

boilers have been installed.

0:21:090:21:13

Residents were told they would be

running by Saturday but are worried

0:21:130:21:17

about whether this could happen

again.

0:21:170:21:28

Chelsea ladies Eni Aluko says she

feels let down by some of her

0:21:340:21:41

England team-mates were not

supporting her following her

0:21:410:21:43

complaint against the former coach

Mark Sampson.

0:21:430:21:48

He was sacked because of his conduct

in a previous job but the FA have

0:21:480:21:52

apologised to her after an inquiry

found that he had used racially

0:21:520:21:55

discriminatory language

towards her and another player.

0:21:550:21:56

The players have their own mind and

should be able to say let me step

0:21:560:21:59

back from this and see how it may

benefit if I have a problem, you

0:21:590:22:02

know, if they have a problem, they

have a process that can protect

0:22:020:22:06

them.

0:22:060:22:09

The sport of karate will make

its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020,

0:22:090:22:12

but the hopes of some of England's

finest youngsters has been

0:22:120:22:15

hanging in the balance.

0:22:150:22:16

The team was left on the verge

of financial ruin, but their Olympic

0:22:160:22:19

dreams appear to have been revived

after a London-based billionaire

0:22:190:22:21

offered to pay off their debts.

0:22:210:22:23

Chris Slegg has more.

0:22:230:22:26

England's under 21 karate team have

just returned from the World

0:22:260:22:28

Championships in Tenerife with three

medals to their name.

0:22:280:22:30

I was so happy because we have

all worked so hard

0:22:300:22:33

and it's paid off.

0:22:330:22:35

The mood is more upbeat

than a few weeks ago when we

0:22:350:22:38

reported on their

financial problems.

0:22:380:22:39

They were preparing for the biggest

moment of the young

0:22:390:22:42

sporting lives when Monarch airlines

collapsed leaving them among

0:22:420:22:44

thousands of passengers

out of pocket.

0:22:440:22:48

Financially it put us

close to bankruptcy.

0:22:480:22:58

Watching the report at home

was Kuwaiti billionaire and

0:22:590:23:01

former owner of Nottingham

football club.

0:23:010:23:03

I saw it on TV and I felt the same

when I used to play in the old

0:23:030:23:13

days, I used to play

football in my country,

0:23:170:23:19

I know how they feel

0:23:190:23:21

so I was talking to my friend

and I told him, can we do something

0:23:210:23:24

to help them?

0:23:240:23:25

So he offered to pay off

the team's debts of £40,000.

0:23:250:23:28

Absolutely overwhelmed.

0:23:280:23:30

Everybody is overwhelmed!

0:23:300:23:39

It's such a delightful gesture,

such a wonderful gesture

0:23:390:23:41

to offer to cover the cost.

0:23:410:23:43

He stepped in, it is

overwhelming that

0:23:430:23:44

he has decided to do this for us.

0:23:440:23:46

I cannot thank that man enough, it

helped all of us because some of us

0:23:460:23:50

were not able to make the trip

because of that happening and it

0:23:500:23:55

caused a lot of stress

for a lot of athletes.

0:23:550:23:58

He has also said he will consider

helping fund the team in

0:23:580:24:01

the run-up to Tokyo 2020.

0:24:010:24:02

I will help them, if

they need my help and

0:24:020:24:04

my support I will try

to help them again.

0:24:040:24:07

I love the sport in general and I

would like to help and support them.

0:24:070:24:10

The Olympic dream is still alive.

0:24:100:24:15

Blue Planet II has captured

the imagination of millions,

0:24:150:24:17

making it essential

Sunday night viewing.

0:24:170:24:20

And while you may think

that the tidal Thames can't come

0:24:200:24:23

close to some of the wonders

of the deep, think again.

0:24:230:24:25

It turns out that the river

is in fact home to two

0:24:250:24:28

species of seahorse.

0:24:280:24:29

And what's more, they

appear to be thriving.

0:24:290:24:39

We have found out from various

databases that actually there's been

0:24:390:24:44

six records of sea horses found in

the Thames from Greenwich all the

0:24:440:24:48

way up to the Globe over the last

two months and that's unusual

0:24:480:24:52

because we tend to find only one or

two every year. We don't tend to get

0:24:520:24:58

as many recordings of them in the

river itself.

There is more great

0:24:580:25:03

content on our Facebook page.

0:25:030:25:11

Now the weather with Phil Avery.

0:25:110:25:18

I quite fancy a go at that, do you?

Yes but I have no sense of

0:25:180:25:24

direction, I would be all over the

shop! Talking of flying, this is

0:25:240:25:29

Heathrow and it's one of the more

spectacular shots I have seen the

0:25:290:25:33

lighting arrangements in the

Heathrow area. Suspect head-banger

0:25:330:25:38

was focusing on the dull start,

which did improve. That's the reason

0:25:380:25:46

why it was so cloudy, we had a

weather front which produced some

0:25:460:25:49

spots of rain, nothing to write home

about really. In the afternoon there

0:25:490:25:54

was that chance of brightness.

Through the evening the skies will

0:25:540:25:57

stay clear for a little while. There

could be mist and fog around for a

0:25:570:26:03

time, and there will be a thicker

band of cloud which will help if

0:26:030:26:09

there has been an early dip in the

temperatures. They will rise as we

0:26:090:26:12

get towards the end of the night.

Like today, damp start and it will

0:26:120:26:17

gradually brighten up. We have

another set of weather fronts coming

0:26:170:26:21

in from the north. I think they will

get away a

0:26:210:26:24

in from the north. I think they will

get away a good deal quicker than

0:26:240:26:25

was the case today so from about

mid-morning onwards I would have

0:26:250:26:29

thought all of us would be in for a

predominantly day. A passing shower

0:26:290:26:37

perhaps Tom at the top temperature

12 degrees depending on where you

0:26:370:26:41

are spending the day. As we get to

Armistice Day on Saturday, it will

0:26:410:26:47

be a dull day.

0:26:470:26:50

There's a chance of brightness later

in the day but it won't be that

0:26:530:26:56

special. Temperatures in double

figures as you see, but there will

0:26:560:27:00

be a marked change as we get on into

Sunday. A great run of north,

0:27:000:27:06

north-westerly winds, the weekend

looking finally to be really very

0:27:060:27:11

chilly indeed. Not bad if you are

out at the ceremonies of course.

0:27:110:27:16

Thank you.

0:27:160:27:17

Now the main headlines tonight.

0:27:180:27:19

The minister for disabled people,

Penny Mordaunt, has been appointed

0:27:190:27:22

the new International Development

Secretary.

0:27:220:27:23

Priti Patel resigned

from the Cabinet post last night

0:27:230:27:25

over unauthorised meetings

with Israeli officials.

0:27:250:27:30

The memorial honouring the victims

of the Croydon tram crash has been

0:27:300:27:37

unveiled on the first anniversary of

the derailment.

0:27:370:27:43

That's it.

0:27:430:27:44

I'll be back later during

the ten o'clock news,

0:27:440:27:47

but for now from everyone

on the team have a lovely evening.
