London News, with me, Riz Lateef. We have heard immense praise and

gratitude to London's police and emergency surfaces, one man who was

in a restaurant in Borough Market said of officers that they were our

eyes and ears in keeping us safe and I won't get a chance to thank -- or

hug them for what they did. As Karl Mercer now reports, as the city came

under attack again, we saw acts of kindness and Londoners coming

together. Once again, the sound of sirens

and the sight of cordons. Once again, just ten weeks

after the attack on Westminster, the capital has been

attacked by terrorists. Once again, innocents

have been murdered. Once again, the eyes

of the world are on London, as they were when PC Keith Palmer's

funeral was held in Back then, his colleagues

lined the streets around Today, they line them

for a very different reason. You know, when you don't know where

to go, fortunately you had here... Andrew Nunn is the Dean of Southwark

and conducted PC Palmer's funeral. Last night, he took in locals unable

to sleep in their own homes, after visiting Borough Market

in the moments after the attack. trying to get around the cordon

to get back to the house. And there were people being tended

to on the pavements by the emergency service and their friends,

and it was unreal and frightening, and I still have that kind

of sense of shock and fear, really, within me, which I think

many people will be feeling. Amir Eden chairs

the local residents' group and but for a last-minute

change of mind. Unable to get to his flat, he was

taken in by the Dean last night. I've known Andrew for a very long

time, so it's helpful, yeah. No, sorry, yeah, I'm fine,

I just feel quite emotional and... Because on Friday we were at

an event which was celebrating this place and how residents in the area

have done so much, and I felt kind of quite touched,

because I was the person to take over and to leave the legacy,

and I just feel, hopefully, I can try and show that Islam

is a religion of peace, and we hope to help communities

and not break them up. last night's attack will be hard

to understand and explain. I took the kids out roller-skating,

because I'm not trying to be part of all this sort of thing,

I just don't want them around it. But then obviously, coming home,

I have to be, so I thought, I have to try and explain,

my daughter obviously, she can see, she's asking,

so I've got to, in a childlike, friendly way, explain to her,

so then we lit the candle As with previous attacks, many,

though, are defiant. If me having a gin and tonic with my

friends, flirting with handsome men, hanging out with brilliant women

is what offends these people so much, I'm going to do it more,

not less, because that is what makes London so great, that is what makes

this the best city in the world. That was a message

echoed by the Mayor. As Londoners, we aren't

going to allow terrorists to change our way of life,

we are going to carry on, mingling and mixing on a Saturday

night in London Bridge We're going to go to the polls

this Thursday and vote, we're not going to allow

these terrorists Police say they're confident

the attack was carried out by the three men shot dead

last night but have arrested 12 people following raids

in Barking this afternoon. Emotion and resilience from

Londoners. Tom Edwards is with me, we will look to tomorrow in a

moment, but this is a fast-moving investigation, isn't it? Yes, 48

people injured, 21 critically, 12 arrests so far in this

investigation, but what has really investigation, but what has really

struck me is the resilience of the city. I was over on Westminster

Bridge today, it was a normal, very busy Sunday there. I was also struck

by what one police officer said to me, he said people are carrying on

because this, unfortunately, is becoming more like the norm, and

there are now calls for much more to be done to protect London's bridges.

What you have to consider, particularly in iconic locations as

a priority, perhaps some enhancements to the protection of

pedestrian areas to ensure that the terrorists,

who are seeking that media attention worldwide by striking

in these iconic locations, there's protective measures to

safeguard the well-being of not only London residence but all of those

And the UK had of counterterrorism has said they are looking at some of

those increased measures. Looking ahead to tomorrow, thousands of

people, the start of the working week, and London Bridge a key

interchange. Yes, that is right, and the cordoned has closed a lot of

roads, 16 bus routes diverted, and in the middle of it is London Bridge

Asian, the fourth busiest in the UK, 140,000 commuters a date use it. Is

it going to be open for tomorrow rush hour? I have to say, at the

moment that looks very unlikely. We are also hearing, in the last 20

minutes, there will be a vigil tomorrow at City Hall. That is it

We've seen a few showers across London this afternoon,

they're largely fading as we go through the next couple of hours,

so we'll be left with a dry night and a clear night,

and with slight winds in the suburbs, could be

on the cool side, temperatures in the high single figures.

We start tomorrow dry with sunshine, but as the day wears on,

cloud starts to thicken up, the winds pick up too,

some showers come in, and a more significant band of rain

It will be wet and windy into Tuesday, feeling quite autumnal.

Over the weekend, in fresh air, we have seen sunshine and showers, a

line of showers pushing towards eastern England, they will decay. We

will keep the showers for longer in Scotland, then they will probably be

overtaken by this thickening
