Good evening, I'm Alice Bhandhukravi. | :00:13. | :00:15.
Shop and restaurants workers in east London were picking up | :00:16. | :00:18.
the pieces today after clashes between protesters and police | :00:19. | :00:20.
The incidents took place a week after the death of 20-year-old | :00:21. | :00:25.
Rashan Charles whilst in police custody. | :00:26. | :00:30.
Today, a vigil took place to remember him. | :00:31. | :00:32.
Doing the best he can to repair the damage to his restaurant window, | :00:33. | :00:37.
caused by last night's disorder in Dalston, east London. | :00:38. | :00:42.
Fabio Stefana's customers have stayed away today. | :00:43. | :00:48.
Many were terrified just after ten o'clock last night. | :00:49. | :00:51.
There was this couple of ladies, very young, girls, | :00:52. | :00:54.
and they were crying their heads off because they thought | :00:55. | :00:58.
there was a terrorist attack, because the noise was... | :00:59. | :01:00.
Well, I mean, you could hear it from anywhere. | :01:01. | :01:03.
The violence started last night, after the vigil for Rashan Charles, | :01:04. | :01:07.
the 20-year-old who died after being restrained | :01:08. | :01:09.
Bottles and fireworks were thrown at the police. | :01:10. | :01:15.
Earlier today, another vigil was held outside | :01:16. | :01:17.
Some believe young people's anger is understandable. | :01:18. | :01:23.
They are attacked by the police, they are attacked by the public, | :01:24. | :01:26.
they are attacked by our own community. | :01:27. | :01:28.
Put it out in the media, because our young people | :01:29. | :01:32.
And if everyone is unhappy with the route they are taking | :01:33. | :01:39.
with retaliation, then provide an alternative. | :01:40. | :01:40.
If there is no alternative given to young people, | :01:41. | :01:43.
they are going to go exactly where their emotions take them. | :01:44. | :01:45.
In Dalston, these students came out to entertain, | :01:46. | :01:49.
keen to show the positive side of the East End youth. | :01:50. | :01:54.
We as mothers and fathers and parents of young people, | :01:55. | :01:58.
we feel very compassionate about the loss of a young person, | :01:59. | :02:01.
But there is a way to go about getting your voice heard. | :02:02. | :02:09.
It's a sentiment shared by the family of Rashan Charles, | :02:10. | :02:13.
who just want to know more about how their son died. | :02:14. | :02:28.
Parts have been evacuated in Reading town centre | :02:29. | :02:30.
The 60-metre high crane is now leaning against | :02:31. | :02:33.
People are being advised to avoid the area. | :02:34. | :02:39.
A community tennis club run by volunteers in Belsize Park | :02:40. | :02:41.
says it's under threat of closure by the council. | :02:42. | :02:44.
Globe Tennis Club has been welcoming a diverse range of players for over | :02:45. | :02:48.
60 years but now the council says the land it occupies | :02:49. | :02:52.
tennis clubs in London wouldn't accept these players. | :02:53. | :03:04.
They felt it was because of their class or ethnicity. | :03:05. | :03:07.
Together, they formed their own club - the Globe - | :03:08. | :03:09.
We are an important contributed to the community and once this is gone, | :03:10. | :03:16.
you can never replace it. The lease with Camden Council | :03:17. | :03:18.
is up for renewal and it wants to make | :03:19. | :03:20.
changes to it. It could see the club | :03:21. | :03:22.
eventually demolished Volunteers say it doesn't realise | :03:23. | :03:24.
the importance of the work Our coaches provide coaching for | :03:25. | :03:38.
free in local schools, which membership here pays for, so we are | :03:39. | :03:43.
open, we are accessible, we are diverse and inclusive and we are | :03:44. | :03:46.
affordable and that separates us from the average club in London. For | :03:47. | :03:54.
members, the news is devastating. It unites a lot of the local schools | :03:55. | :03:57.
around here, whether it is state schools or private schools. The only | :03:58. | :04:01.
place we can go to where it feels like another community space. Camden | :04:02. | :04:05.
Council says this is an incorrect rumour but I have been shown a | :04:06. | :04:08.
letter from the council to the local MP here and in it, it says this land | :04:09. | :04:13.
and this club does have potential to be redeveloped the housing. Despite | :04:14. | :04:18.
that, the council has told us it is committed to providing sports in the | :04:19. | :04:19.
local area. The campaign to protect | :04:20. | :04:19.
the club has been getting support from celebrities | :04:20. | :04:21.
around the world - including a former Dr Who | :04:22. | :04:23.
who lives next door. It's not only important that this | :04:24. | :04:32.
club continues to exist in practical terms, for people to pay tennis, but | :04:33. | :04:38.
to send out a message, particularly post-Brexit, about multiculturalism, | :04:39. | :04:41.
multi-faith and a sense of community, a global community. | :04:42. | :04:42.
the council and the tennis club will have to go to court | :04:43. | :04:46.
A quick look at the weather now and there's more rain tonight. | :04:47. | :04:52.
Tomorrow we'll see a dry and bright start, with sunny spells. | :04:53. | :04:54.
The afternoon will bring more showers though in the afternoon. | :04:55. | :04:57.
That's it, we're back in tomorrow's evening news. | :04:58. | :05:00.
Hello, there. The best of the weather today was across the central | :05:01. | :05:20.
third of the UK, and across the North, a mixture of sunshine and | :05:21. | :05:22.
showers, dramatic weather | :05:23. | :05:24. |
