In Look East tonight: An inquest hears how this woman died in a care | :00:12. | :00:16.
home from pneumonia and bedsores. Hello and welcome to Look East. | :00:16. | :00:19.
Also tonight: The need for more mortgages and more homes. How to | :00:19. | :00:25.
kick start the housing market. A foggy journey to work for | :00:25. | :00:29.
thousands: what can we expect tomorrow? | :00:29. | :00:39.
:00:39. | :00:44. | ||
And out of the wilderness... The Darkness. | :00:44. | :00:46.
First tonight, claims that an elderly lady died from her bedsores | :00:46. | :00:53.
after being neglected by staff in a care home. The family of Ana | :00:53. | :00:56.
Dunmore claim that she was mistreated at the Old Vicarage home | :00:56. | :01:06.
:01:06. | :01:07. | ||
in Littleport. An inquest into her death opened today in Huntingdon. | :01:07. | :01:17.
:01:17. | :01:18. | ||
Away at Ana Dunmore was 74. She had dementia. It has found that she | :01:18. | :01:22.
needed help eating and washing. The home said they could meet her needs. | :01:22. | :01:29.
In the coming months, her condition worsened. The family want to know | :01:29. | :01:34.
if they care also worsened. This photograph was taken pains -- days | :01:34. | :01:40.
before she died. She had been moved from this care home. The inquest | :01:40. | :01:46.
was told she had become immobile, static, spending most of her time | :01:46. | :01:55.
in a chair. In June 2009, district nurses noticed pressure sores. She | :01:55. | :02:01.
had to be turned at least every two hours. But this is what the records | :02:01. | :02:09.
of the care home show. On 15th June, 2009, she was turned once in the | :02:09. | :02:19.
:02:19. | :02:19. | ||
evening. The next time was in the morning. From 18th June to the 27th, | :02:19. | :02:25.
nine days, she was not turned at all. The man on the left was the | :02:25. | :02:29.
assistant manager. When asked how this happened, he said he could not | :02:29. | :02:38.
explain it. He said the management was responsible for monitoring. Ask | :02:38. | :02:46.
why one member of staff only turn - - sometimes turned her instead of | :02:46. | :02:53.
two, he said maybe only one man had signed the chart. Her transfer to a | :02:53. | :02:58.
place of specialist care was delayed caused by its transport | :02:58. | :03:04.
costs and different medical assessments. | :03:04. | :03:07.
The Care Quality Commission have had concerns about this care home | :03:07. | :03:12.
in the past. This inquest is about finding the facts. The family knew | :03:12. | :03:16.
that she was coming to the end of for life. They knew she could not | :03:16. | :03:21.
have been rehabilitated. They're trying to find out if her care was | :03:21. | :03:25.
good enough in her final days. Plans for the government to | :03:25. | :03:27.
underwrite mortgages for first-time buyers have been welcomed by | :03:27. | :03:33.
charities and councils in the region. It comes as new figures | :03:33. | :03:36.
reveal that the average deposit for a house here is more than twice the | :03:37. | :03:44.
salary of most young people. Here's our Political Correspondent. | :03:44. | :03:47.
In the last 24 hours, we've had two very interesting surveys. The first | :03:47. | :03:50.
from the charity Shelter reveals that there are more than 15,000 | :03:50. | :03:53.
homeless people in the Eastern counties. That figure's almost | :03:53. | :03:57.
doubled in the last two years. Meanwhile another survey has found | :03:57. | :04:01.
that the average salary of person in their 20s here in the East is | :04:01. | :04:08.
just under 15,000. The average deposit for a new home in the East, | :04:08. | :04:16.
20%, is nearly 32,000. To save for a deposit over five years a young | :04:16. | :04:20.
person would have to save 532 a month. Which would account for | :04:20. | :04:24.
nearly all of their disposable income. That's why this initiative | :04:24. | :04:31.
could make a big difference. Because there are thousands of | :04:31. | :04:35.
people in the region like this couple from Stevenage. They both | :04:35. | :04:42.
work full-time. They are trapped in private rented accommodation, which | :04:42. | :04:47.
keeps increasing for. We are unable to buy because we pay so much money | :04:47. | :04:51.
each month. We don't have a disposable income. We don't have | :04:51. | :04:59.
the luxury of having money aside so we could build-up a deposit large | :04:59. | :05:05.
enough to secure a property. There is still some house building going | :05:05. | :05:09.
on. But in many places it has stalled due to lack of demand. That | :05:09. | :05:14.
is why those who give approval to planning schemes have high hopes | :05:14. | :05:19.
for the initiative today. 5,000 planning permissions have been | :05:19. | :05:25.
granted in the region, but nothing is being built. They're ready to go. | :05:25. | :05:31.
If this policy can increase demand, there is no reason why builders can | :05:31. | :05:39.
start building. MPs say that housing is the one region -- | :05:39. | :05:42.
housing is the one issue that dominates the weekend surgeries. | :05:43. | :05:46.
have been pushing the Government for a long time to recognise that | :05:47. | :05:51.
housing is iconic and if we're not careful we will have a hold | :05:52. | :05:58.
generation of people who rent houses. One in a home gives you a | :05:58. | :06:03.
stake in your country. Labour have given a guarded welcome to the | :06:03. | :06:07.
initiative. But they say the money on offer is far less than was put | :06:07. | :06:13.
up by the last government. And, given the uncertainty of the | :06:13. | :06:18.
economy, there is no guarantee that people will want to buy our home, | :06:18. | :06:22.
even if it is being made a little easier for them. | :06:22. | :06:25.
A few years ago, the old regional assembly estimated that our region | :06:25. | :06:27.
would need another 784,000 homes over the next 20 years. This | :06:27. | :06:31.
initiative will not ensure they're all built, but it might go a little | :06:31. | :06:35.
way to helping. Scientists in Cambridge have begun | :06:36. | :06:38.
collecting DNA from cancer patients as part of a ground breaking | :06:38. | :06:47.
research project. Over two years,9,000 patients will have | :06:47. | :06:52.
their DNA sampled. Their aim, more targeted treatment in the future. | :06:52. | :06:57.
For months, this woman has been coming to Adam Briggs Hospital for | :06:58. | :07:02.
chemotherapy. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April, she has | :07:02. | :07:05.
almost finished her treatment. Now she is offering her DNA for | :07:05. | :07:12.
research. I just want to help somebody else. I have been helped | :07:12. | :07:20.
from past research. Extracting tumours cells in this laboratory, | :07:20. | :07:23.
scientists believe it could revolutionise the way we treat | :07:23. | :07:30.
cancer. Currently they look at issue structure before deciding | :07:30. | :07:34.
treatment. On the left it is healthy. On the right, cancerous. | :07:34. | :07:43.
By analysing DNA, scientists will be able to discover the significant | :07:43. | :07:48.
faults with cells. By gathering the DNA of thousands of patients, | :07:48. | :07:53.
scientists hope to get a point where it just a simple genetic test | :07:53. | :07:57.
will identify the correct form of treatment. If they come with a | :07:57. | :08:03.
particular cancer, we will be able to analyse the abdomen up -- the | :08:03. | :08:08.
abnormalities that her present. On the basis of that, we can choose to | :08:08. | :08:17.
medicines that will specifically help them. At present, we have | :08:18. | :08:21.
medicines that help a large number of people, but not others. This | :08:21. | :08:28.
could provide the beginnings of truly personalised cancer care. | :08:28. | :08:31.
Later in the programme: Marsh Farm in Luton. A housing estate given | :08:31. | :08:41.
:08:41. | :08:44. | ||
50 million in grants over ten The Government has been accused of | :08:44. | :08:46.
double standards, by helping pay for the renovation of former MOD | :08:46. | :08:53.
homes, while leaving nearby army houses in disrepair. The MP for the | :08:53. | :08:59.
garrison town of Colchester says service families are being let down. | :08:59. | :09:02.
The Ministry of Defence says it is spending millions on upgrading army | :09:02. | :09:09.
accommodation. After 21 years as a soldier, this | :09:09. | :09:14.
man has learned to take the rough with this move. His army house has | :09:14. | :09:19.
been home to his family of five for two years. I don't think the house | :09:19. | :09:26.
has been updated since the 1940s. But everything works, so no major | :09:26. | :09:35.
complaints. I knocked on the doors of around a dozen soldiers. The | :09:35. | :09:41.
kitchens were very outdated. But they say that for the reduced rent | :09:41. | :09:45.
they are paying, things could be a lot worse. That said, many homes | :09:45. | :09:49.
still owned by the MoD are in serious need of a make-over. Just | :09:49. | :09:58.
yards away, former army houses have been rebuilt and rented out. | :09:58. | :10:02.
Government has spent millions of pounds up grading and improving | :10:02. | :10:05.
them. If the Government can do it on one side of the road, surely | :10:05. | :10:10.
they should find the money on other side of the road for the families | :10:10. | :10:15.
of other brave soldiers. The MoD says it is spending money on | :10:15. | :10:25.
:10:25. | :10:25. | ||
improvements. Why are the houses on one side so much nicer? The total | :10:25. | :10:35.
:10:35. | :10:36. | ||
build coast -- the total build cost is 20 million. The rent on the | :10:36. | :10:44.
side is almost three times that of the army houses. It is a brand new | :10:44. | :10:50.
property pitch we have never had before. The MoD says it will spend | :10:50. | :10:54.
more on housing for service personnel when funds are available. | :10:54. | :11:02.
When that will be is anyone's guess. The Bishop of Norwich has | :11:02. | :11:05.
criticised government plans to cut the amount of benefit a family can | :11:05. | :11:08.
receive. Graham James is one of 18 bishops to sign an open letter | :11:08. | :11:12.
asking for the idea to be reconsidered. | :11:12. | :11:18.
Opening a school. Part of the regular duties of a bishop. For the | :11:18. | :11:23.
Bishop of Norwich, it does not end there. He is trying to stop | :11:23. | :11:28.
government cutting benefits for families. It is easy for those of | :11:28. | :11:31.
us who were employed to characterise those who are | :11:31. | :11:34.
unemployed as if they are feckless. We are not all feckless by any | :11:34. | :11:39.
manner of means. Many people are desperate for work and are finding | :11:39. | :11:43.
it difficult to find a job. So far, his Commons haven't made much | :11:43. | :11:48.
impact in Parliament for. Many people watching this programme will | :11:48. | :11:58.
be earning 20,000, to ask them to pay tax for people to take home | :11:58. | :12:02.
30,000 and benefits, I think that is wrong and we must change it for. | :12:02. | :12:10.
At this school, families were divided. There has to be a cap. | :12:10. | :12:14.
Otherwise it will go on and on. There are jobs out there to be | :12:14. | :12:20.
found. I think people take advantage. Some decide not to go to | :12:20. | :12:30.
a work. Some people cannot work. It should be done fairly. Bishops hope | :12:30. | :12:35.
this open letter will help Government think again. For now, it | :12:35. | :12:38.
seems cuts to benefits are inevitable. | :12:38. | :12:41.
Two young women are still in hospital with serious injuries | :12:41. | :12:43.
following a crash on the A47. The accident happened at North | :12:43. | :12:47.
Burlingham at the start of the month. One of the women is in | :12:47. | :12:50.
Addenbrooke's Hospital with head injuries. The other is at the | :12:50. | :12:58.
Norfolk and Norwich with a broken Football now, and Southend's | :12:58. | :13:01.
unbeaten run continues. But there was disappointment for the rest of | :13:01. | :13:05.
our teams. Here's Kate Riley. Thank you. Good evening. The | :13:05. | :13:07.
Norwich manager, Paul Lambert, says his side will learn lessons after | :13:07. | :13:10.
losing 2-1at home to Arsenal. The Canaries went ahead through this | :13:10. | :13:13.
effort by Steve Morison. Defender Russell Martin was kept busy - | :13:14. | :13:20.
making several impressive blocks off the line. But ultimately it was | :13:20. | :13:27.
his mistake which lead to Robin Van Persie's second goal. | :13:27. | :13:29.
Ipswich Town's celebrations were short lived. A 3-2 defeat to | :13:29. | :13:33.
Nottingham Forest means it's four losses on the bounce for Town. With | :13:33. | :13:36.
the emergency loan deadline looming - Paul Jewell isn't ruling out new | :13:36. | :13:46.
:13:46. | :13:49. | ||
faces at Portman Road. Ipswich Town's manager has admitted his | :13:49. | :13:51.
side switched off after losing in the dying moments to Nottingham | :13:51. | :13:56.
Forest at the weekend. Things started positively, though. Danny | :13:56. | :14:02.
Collins put them ahead. That was soon cancelled out. Robbie thinly | :14:02. | :14:09.
got the first equaliser for the hosts that afternoon. -- Finlay. | :14:09. | :14:19.
:14:19. | :14:20. | ||
Forest levelled the score with just win the match in the 91st minute. | :14:20. | :14:24.
Were have to learn from our mistakes. We give teams and it in | :14:24. | :14:29.
it where they should not be an in. We will try something clever and | :14:29. | :14:36.
fancy and we are not going to win. 2-1 away from home, we have got to | :14:36. | :14:42.
see the game out. Saturday's result leaves Town of four points above | :14:42. | :14:51.
In League One, the MK Dons boss has led to the defence of the court has | :14:51. | :14:55.

bewildered by how sections of the supporters expressed their | :14:58. | :15:03.
displeasure with the result. He told the BBC that some disgraceful | :15:03. | :15:09.
things were chanted at the Essex club's manager. | :15:09. | :15:14.
Southend remain in tremendous form. They are now 14 games unbeaten and | :15:14. | :15:17.
their last defeat came back in early September. Saturday's fine | :15:17. | :15:25.
display ended with a 3-2 win away from Dagenham -- away at Dagenham. | :15:25. | :15:31.

confirmed by a Twitter about one of his players has been racially | :15:35. | :15:41.

There is more on the BBC website. Southend host Preston in their FA | :15:50. | :15:55.

You're watching Look East from the BBC. Coming up: The return of The | :16:14. | :16:23.
A 750,000 sale of council land on one of the region's most notorious | :16:23. | :16:26.
housing estates ...is being investigated over claims that it | :16:26. | :16:32.
breached funding regulations. In total 50 million has been spent on | :16:32. | :16:35.
the Marsh Farm estate. But, as our sister programme Inside Out has | :16:36. | :16:45.
discovered, it seems the residents have precious little to show for it. | :16:45. | :16:49.

decade. He remembers what it was like being told the area was | :17:19. | :17:23.
getting millions of pounds of money. A tremendous amount of excitement, | :17:23. | :17:28.
because it was such a large sum. People were so excited and when | :17:28. | :17:34.
they could see what was proposed, it was, for this area, | :17:34. | :17:38.
revolutionary. By the 10 years of funding came to an end earlier this | :17:38. | :17:43.

Michelangelo was hammered every day when he went into work. He would | :21:20. | :21:26.
have fallen off his ladder and the job would never have got done. | :21:26. | :21:31.
Darkness play a sold-out gig in Norwich later this week and another | :21:31. | :21:35.
in July. The new album will be out in the spring, just so long as | :21:35. | :21:45.
:21:45. | :21:45. | ||
nobody has too much fun. There's no doubt what the main | :21:45. | :21:55.
:21:55. | :21:56. | ||
weather story was this weekend - fog. It descended on many parts of | :21:56. | :21:59.
the region, leading to delays and cancellations at some of our | :21:59. | :22:03.
airports. Much of the region was shrouded early this morning. And | :22:03. | :22:06.
driving conditions on many roads were hazardous. So why is it | :22:06. | :22:15.
happening? Alex Dolan has this report. It is becoming something of | :22:15. | :22:19.
a familiar pattern. We are waking up in the mornings to misty, | :22:19. | :22:24.
perhaps body, conditions. We get to mid-morning and it is starting to | :22:24. | :22:31.
lift and burn off. But should we be surprised? It is the season of | :22:31. | :22:37.
mists, after all. The words of John Keats, whose poem about autumn was | :22:37. | :22:43.
written almost two centuries at all. -- ago. Last year, after a mild | :22:43. | :22:48.
start to November, temperatures plummeted. We were suddenly plunged | :22:48. | :22:52.
into midwinter and the freezing conditions lingered for weeks. | :22:52. | :22:56.
Early this morning, those autumn mists are enveloped much of the | :22:56. | :23:04.
region. This was the scene on the A47 near Norwich and this, the A12 | :23:04. | :23:11.
near an Essex town. So, how does fog form? It starts with air | :23:11. | :23:15.
containing a high quantity of moisture. At night, the ground | :23:15. | :23:20.
cools, becoming colder than the air around it. The air reaches what | :23:20. | :23:25.
scientists call the tune point. Bat is the temperature at which it | :23:25. | :23:31.
converts from gas to liquid. With still conditions, little or no wind, | :23:31. | :23:38.
cloud has created at ground level, which we call fog. Pure and a Marks | :23:38. | :23:48.

it is reassuring that for now, at least, the traditional for -- | :23:52. | :23:58.
pattern of the seasons has been restored. | :23:58. | :24:03.
That makes will be double pictures, but annoying driving. A very | :24:03. | :24:09.
exciting evening for us because Julia is back! | :24:09. | :24:17.
Hello. It has been a very long time. How is your little son? He is a | :24:17. | :24:24.
very dear rolled and chattering away. He watched me at lunch time | :24:24. | :24:28.
and recognised me on the TV. Hopefully he is on his way to bed | :24:28. | :24:36.
It is lovely to be back, although it was a very foggy day across the | :24:36. | :24:41.
region. The clouds thinned and broke up in some parts to allow | :24:41. | :24:46.
some of them Bethan -- sunshine through. I wanted to showed you the | :24:46. | :24:51.
latest radar picture. We have these showers in the South West. Over the | :24:51. | :24:55.
next few hours, the further west you are, take a more likely what to | :24:55. | :24:58.
see a shower. But they will be pretty well scattered and not for | :24:58. | :25:04.
everybody. Once they have gone, a dry night everywhere. The mistiness | :25:04. | :25:08.
and the fog is reforming. But we are not expecting the fog to be | :25:08. | :25:14.
quite as extensive and widespread as last night. Temperatures between | :25:14. | :25:19.
five and seven degrees Celsius but have -- but if we see the cloud | :25:19. | :25:25.
break, they could drop and that could lead to a bit of ground frost. | :25:25. | :25:30.
We have got this week weather front pushing in from the West tomorrow, | :25:30. | :25:35.
but it is a very weak affair so it will not produce much in the way of | :25:35. | :25:39.
rain. Tomorrow morning, the mist and fog should clear a bit more | :25:40. | :25:44.
readily than this morning and for most of us, a dry start of the day. | :25:44. | :25:47.
Further east, you are more likely to see brightness coming through it | :25:47. | :25:55.
if you are lucky. Slowly, the brain making inroads from the north-west. | :25:55. | :26:04.

tomorrow evening will slowly pushed eastwards but as it does, it is | :26:17. | :26:22.
likely to break up so for many of us, it will be a dry afternoon and | :26:22. | :26:27.
evening. This rain will really not amount to very much and certainly | :26:27. | :26:31.
not for everybody. I have put some rain on there but that does not | :26:31. | :26:35.
mean everyone will get some. Wednesday and Thursday, high | :26:35. | :26:40.
pressure built in from the South West and I think we will have two | :26:40. | :26:49.
dry days. 8 chilly starter Wednesday. -- a year chilly start | :26:49. | :26:55.

I should flag up Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, where we could | :27:00. | :27:10.

And before we go, a huge thank you to everyone who donated money to | :27:11. | :27:15.
Children in Need this year. As ever, thousands of you did amazing things | :27:15. | :27:18.
to raise money. This is one of our favourite moments - when Hayley | :27:18. | :27:21.
Green from Bedford conquered her morbid fear of spiders by holding a | :27:21. | :27:24.
