Good evening. Police forces across the region have started giving

details of their plans for New Year's Eve. Extra patrols will be

on the street for the busiest night of the year in pubs and clubs.

This is one of Kettering said biggest pubs. As you can see, it is

already pretty busy. It will be tomorrow when the party really gets

under way. I am joined by a chief inspector from Northampton police.

He has been heading their festive campaign. What plans to have it

tomorrow? We are working with our partners in the pubs and clubs. We

are putting extra resources out and about, not just in town centres. It

won't just be a uniformed presence, there will be other people present.

What advice to have blood drinkers tomorrow? -- de you have for

drinkers? Get yourself a designated driver. Act responsibly.

Thank you very much. Police are adopting a zero-tolerance approach

to illegal raves. They have been a spate of mobile phone theft in

Cambridge. Essex Police, and Thames Valley, say they will have extra

officers on the streets. If you are going out, the force's message is

the same, if you are going out, have fun, but drink sensibly, and

stay safe. The Suffolk-based owner of a chain

of toy shops has become the latest victim of the squeeze in consumer

spending. Hawkins Bazaar went into administration this morning. The

company which has 65 stores across the country has its head office in

Beccles. 400 staff are on the books. It's thought the business could be

broken up and sold. A driver has been killed in a crash

on the A47 in Norfolk. It happened on the Brundall roundabout this

afternoon. The victim is believed to be a woman in her eighties. The

east bound carriageway is still closed.

Poultry producers in the region fear they could be hit by cheap

foreign imports in the New Year. The UK has signed up to new rules

on battery cages, but some producers believe they could lose

out to rivals on the Continent who haven't agreed to the changes.

These are some of the last battery hens in the region. Buried their

their products. The government has said they are ready taking action,

with pledges from supermarkets not to use the cheap foreign eggs.

contaminated land near Cambridge has been completed. But campaigners

are not convinced it's safe and are worried about plans to build 400

homes on the site. For the last two years locals there

have been complaining of a strong smell. Word had been on going to

clean up its chemicals side. It had led to health problems. -- basic

chemicals site. The land will be declassified as contaminated. That

is worrying campaigners. People had health problems, the first year was

particularly bad. It does concern me that houses are going to be

built on there. It should not be six months. Final planning

permission will only be granted if the land is considered suitable in

six months' time. Football now. In the Premier League

Norwich City play Fulham tomorrow with manager Paul Lambert playing

down expectations. Norwich are above Fulham in the table, but

Lambert says that doesn't mean they are favourites to take all three

points. We are doing well enough to try and win the game. We got to try

and curtail ourselves, it is a new year, Fulham are well established.

In the Championship tomorrow. Peterborough are away to

Middlesbrough and Ipswich go to Reading. In League one MK Dons are

at Brentford, Colchester are at home to Exeter, and Stevenage go to

Wycombe. In League two, Southend go to Wimbledon, and Northampton are

to Wimbledon, and Northampton are at home to Swindon.

Now the weather. We had rain moving across the

region, that's going to clear the next few hours. There is a warmer

front 18 in from the North Sea. There is a cold front behind that.

That may bring a little rain. This is the radar sequence. That darker

blue, a little bit of heavier rain. Most of that is edging to the east

of the region. One or two showers behind it. The rain will clear away,

a damp start of the night. It should dry out, maybe Misty In a

few places overnight. You will notice the mild temperatures,

milder tonight than during the day. 9-ten degrees. A moderate westerly

wind. Tomorrow, summer light drizzle. The bulk of the afternoon

will be mainly dry. Temperatures, very mild indeed, 12 degrees. That

is above average. Moderate West to, to south-westerly winds. New year's

eve, some patchy rain developing, that could make things a little bit

damp for the celebrations. 10 -11 degrees. New year's Day, a few
